I'm about to be a refugee from the Droid Charge to a new phone due to the problems with the data/voice signal dropouts.
The VZW rep offered me the LG Revo or the Droid X2.
You guys own the phone, does it beat out the Revo?
Pros: Eclipse ROM! It's the only reason I still have this phone.
Cons: Locked bootloader; pentile display; not very durable (in my experience); video recorder skips/pauses; music will skip w/out modifications or sbf 2.3.4; 2.3.4 sbf reports inaccurate battery readings after you reboot..what's your other option? :/

Well, since the latest update, Moto has made significant improvement to the X2 - (in my opinion) and with some tweaking, mods and a rom, (Eclipse) my X2 is running AWESOME...finally
looking at some specs for the LG Revo
- it's on 2.2 Froyo - X2 has 2.3.4 Gingerbread available - I would say goes to X2
- single core Snapdragon MSM8655 1GHz processor - X2 is on 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 - I would say goes to X2
- Revo has 4.3-inch 480 x 800 - X2 has qHD 540x960 - I would say goes to X2
- Revo has 1.3 front facing camera - X2 does not
- Revo has 4G lte - X2 is only 3G
- Revo - 5-megapixel camera - X2 has an 8 megapixel camera
- Revo comes with Bing - X2 has Google
Performance wise
Smartbench -1274 Revo - 2869 X2 - more than double the performance
Quadrant - 2036 Revo - 2680 X2 - Quadrant scores not the best to rate X2 - but still better
I could go on with the performance benchmarking but the X2 is clearly a much higher performance device with a dual core processor.
So...if front facing camera and 4gLTE are somewhat important to ya, you would have to go with the LG
But if neither of those things are important - my opinion, the X2 with the latest update is the winner hands down, and if you can do some tweaking and modding, there is no doubt X2 takes it.
I've never owned the Revo so i'm not qualified to judge it... My fascinate w/ 1GHz single core, 5mp cam, OC Kernel and CM7, EF, or ComRom smoked the x2. If I had to pay for this x2 I'd feel ripped off. Honestly, I'd tell VZW to offer
you a Bionic or your services go elsewhere. That Revo, based on specs, doesn't compare to the Charge specs, does it? Either way you go, it's a downgrade, really..

Eclipse exists for the charge. Nitro is a charge dev keep the charge. The 2.3.5 update supposedly is awesome, it's unlocked, you have custom kernels.

Charge is better than either of the phones the Verizon rep offered you.. If I were in your position I would push for a Bionic.. the cost the same $300
A quick fix for video skipping( when recording) is set camera to save to Internal Storage and bring the resolution size one notch done.
That works for me. But the option, I suppose, is to get a class 6 or higher sd card and that should be fine. I'm going to get a 16 gig class 10 card and call it a day.

Go with anything BUT a moto phone.
The update might have helped but wasnt sure when it was coming. Wife had the choice of going to the bionic or charge. I have the charge and she liked it so now we have 2 charges. Will be selling her DX 2.
If you want power X2 if you want speed Revo.

I am trying to decide between the samsung infuse and the motorola atrix. I'm wondering if the atrix's dual core is an improvement over the infuse's single core.
thanks
I haven't seen anything noticble over other phones, I think at this point it's all about optimizing the os to the hardware. That way most phones run smooth and don't need to be that powerful. Poker even now the atrix I get lags when using the browser or watching some videos. Normal phone usage is comparable to phones with just 1ghz processor like the galaxy s or nexus one.

Well, run a Linpack test and see if the Infuse scores in the 70s. The results to that are the technical answer. Day to day use, I would say it helps, as I have some SetCPU profiles set up to max out at 750 MHz if the CPU temp gets too hot with overclocking (only 1100 MHz at this point), and it is noticeably slower- I would approximate, in my novice opinion, 750 MHz dual core is approximately equal to 1200 MHz single core, if all other things are equal.
i think i am going to go with the atrix. even though the screen is smaller, i feel that it has a lot more room for improvement then the infuse. Knowing how great the community is here, I have no doubt that the duel core and 1gb of ram will be put to good use

Good Choice. Honestly, as of right now the dual core is kinda useless, but when you buy any technology you always have to try to be future proof. It does not matter not, but it could matter later.
I would pick the atrix over the infuse, for other reasons. Such as Webtop (through HDMI), Bigger battery, Size (Opinion). The dual core vs single core should not be the central reason.
EDIT: Also the Infuse can currently be overclocked to 1.8 ghz.

are there any custom roms out for the atrix yet? and is there a way to remove motoblur? From what I have read that seems to cause most of the problems.

Yes there are. Right now there around 4+ roms for Gingerbread, expect more when gingerbread officially launches. With CM7 on the horizon.
There are roms that reduce motoblur if not completely eliminate. I am still using froyo with GingerBlur P-ROM have been completely happy with it. It reduces moto blur to almost nothing.

screen size is perfect imo. i had the HD7 and i loved the big sceen the first few weeks, then got tired of it. cool for videos, but thats what my laptop is for lol. its almost imposible to use with one hand, which gets annyoing. thats just a personal preference though.
just wait till they optimize software with our hardware completely, will run smooth as butter. also when/if we get CM7 or other complete ROM.
I had a Samsung Captivate and was able to upgrade, so I looked long and hard at the Moto Atrix, HTC Inspire or the Samsung Infuse. Here are some of my concerns that I weighed:
1) Internal memory - 8GB, 16GB, 16GB (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - tie between Atrix and Inspire
2) Program RAM - 512MB, 512MB, 1GB (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - Atrix wins this one - less need for a task killer as lot more memory to pre-load without bogging down the phone.
3) Screen resolution - 800x480, 800x480, 960x540 (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - Atrix wins this one - I was a little concerned how pixallated the 800x480 might look on the larger screens.
4) Screen size - 4.3, 4.5, 4.0 (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - Infuse - if you want the biggest screen
5) Processor cores - Atrix wins this one with 2 cores over 1 core in the other phones.
Also, I saw how long of a delay it was for Samsung to get Froyo out for the Captivate and there was very little info coming from them.
Updates to the Captivate were through the PC program Kies which was a joke - if you are interested in that.
Samsung had no real way to transfer files, etc. between the PC and phone other than USB drive mode.
On the Captivate, the update to Froyo meant that your programs and their data were wiped out. So you had to have something like Titanium, which means you have to root, which means that you void your phone's warranty.
I have been a long time supporter of Samsung phones, who has sold a lot of phones, but I think they have disgruntled a lot of customers and I just wanted to give someone eles a try.
I chose the Motorola Atrix, which I have had for the past week.
Moto provides several ways to transfer files and settings between phone and PC (Moto Phone Portal and Moto Media Link).
The 2 minor updates that have been OTA were effortless and Gingerbread is said to be right around the corner.
I think the features on the Atrix make it a wise choice to have a phone that won't be as outdated at the end of 2 years as the other 3 phones mentioned above (including the Captivate).
Hope this wasn't too long and hope it helps you decide.
I Write This Because I'm Not Really Impressed.
New Icons. Okay.
Quadrant Scores Of 2,400-2,700. Same As Froyo, Thought I Had A Dual Core Phone.
No Screen Off Animation. Wasn't That Gingerbread's "Thing"??
What's Everyone Else's Feelings About The Update?
Yes, I'm On The Pre-Rooted Version.
Deodexed And Debloated.
well since there's pre-rooted gingerbread it's just lazyness holding back people from RE-re-re-establishing their phone again
darn you factory reset
I was expecting something more along the lines of the DROID 3 gingerbread and was really excited. I'm just happy to be on 2.3 because it provides a lot of benefits under the hood.

P3Droid had stated their is a rumored 2.3.4 update for both X and X2. That will most likely have the latest "blur". You are right, the performance is quite good, can't really go by quadrant. Most benchmarks come close to Droid 3 anyway and I think that is the best you can do with our chipset and the lack 512 max memory on a stock kernel. Would love to see what having an unlocked bootloader (wishful thinking) and custom kernels can do for performance.
I am impressed with the update. Overall feel is very snappy. Big time improvement.
I left the thunderbolt and came to the X2 and was disappointed until the update. Now I prefer the X2. Quality control on the thunderbolt was lacking severly.
I love the rooted update froyo is just 2 laggy 2.3 is waaaaay better (after you remove all the bloat)
I'd say 2.3.3 and hopefully we will get 2.3.4 soon, AOSP would be awesome, could care less about blur. Some of the benches I did produced results better than the droid 3, and pretty much equal to the photon, if not better in some areas. IMO it's not the hardware that's holding these phones back, it's the software.
I'm very happy with gingerbread, it really doesn't even need to be debloated to run well. I only removed about 12 things just stuff I saw running as a service that I know I don't use/need. Now after killing everything I show 190MB free, 100-140 before killing processes.
It fixed the camcorder too, that was bugging me to no end.

I have been on Gingerbread since about 1AM Thursday morning and have to say it's far better than 2.2.2 in the performance department. Sure, it looks like they mostly themed the thing but they also apparently made a lot of improvements with memory management. Now I am just hopeful that the bootloader get's unlocked and then the real fun can begin. It should not be too long now.

The difference between Froyo and Gingerbread is WAAAAAY more than how it looks. In parlance it got a new paint job, and a jet motor.

Coming from a Simply Stunning Rom'd DX1 I can flat out say real world performance on that DX1 is without any question faster than this de-bloaded DX2.
Yeah, pretty disappointed but I am hoping people smarter than I will change that in the near future.
Quadrant and Linpack show impressive numbers but ADW EX, 4D app drawer with Flurry Live wallpaper running is simply not as smooth as the DX1 on 2nd init.
Its kinda sad how carriers and manufacturers screw up good hardware.
(The qHD screen and upped resolution is very welcome though)
I think it's a 100% improvement over Froyo, much more fluid !!! Some added features and the price was right !!! Who can say that they expected this present from P3 !!!

2.3.4 is neat because we don't have it on our phones yet, but its just 2.3.3 with some slight improvements. I flashed it for like 5 minutes and went back to eclipse. I mean this in the most respectful way to naven, I am glad he is doing the ports. I just really like eclipse
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I've used ecplipse from the beginning but i recently went over to the atrix port just because its the latest version of android. I really liked eclipse because a lot of the blur elements from motorola are removed. but i also like the atrix version just because, like i said, its the latest version from google.
I'd say give both a try. just make 2 separate nandroid backups so u can swap between the 2 if u dont like one or the other.
Both have flaws
This is just my opinion but eclipse has issues with media playback, especially music. I had run the stock rooted gb from p3 and the music played fine if u played it from internal storage, and then fine from the sd card after I baught a class 10 adata card online. With eclipse though it didn't matter, the music skipped and popped like crazy no matter what I did, and I ALWAYS do clean installs with wipes of the big 3. The atrix port of stock 2.3.4 plays music perfectly, but the camera has issues with video mode and the system is laggy compared to eclipse all over. I even debloated it with tibu but it was still slower. That being said, there are some cool animation effects on the atrix port and it had the drop down toggle widgets, but the lag is killing it when u use certain apps that require performance. The bistro capture on both is horrible for some reason. Stock rooted gb from p3 had a great working video capture in 720p hd, but these two roms break it somehow. I know there were problems with navan's scripts affecting media playback so they might affect video capture too. And I'm not dissing him at all, he has done great work.... Again these are my opinions based on my experience with each rom.
I wasn't sure I wanted to leave eclipse rom to go to this ATRIX port but im not regretting it this port is nuts im having way better battery on the ATRIX rom then eclipse rom
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I am having better battery life with Atrix as well. Also my 3g speeds are faster but the signal is not as strong in every area as it was on Eclipse. Music is not skipping with Atrix but the voice commands do not work. I am running ADW on both so operating speed is the same.
I have used every version of eclipse and I've tried to switch to Atrix 3 different times but nothing beats Nitro's blurless ROM for me. It's fast and makes you realize how much blur sucks in every form.
The Atrix ROM is very good and if it weren't for blurless, I'd use it for sure.

See i like blur its not bad but the Atirx rom is a really bugged down blur it doesn't have everything like the stock 2.3.3 has which is nice
Never tried an Atrix port and never will. Obviously im not answering your question but I AM throwing my 2 cents in.
Nitro has been banging it out since the beginning. Working his ass off withing the limitations he is provided and he is giving us X2 users the best experience possible that google allows him for X2 software. Im willing to bet that if they give us 2.3.4 then Nitro will be all over it.
I also happen to like Eclipse.
But, for the above mentioned reasons.. I will use Eclipse until this phone dies of old age or meets its unexpected doom.
For me there was things I liked and things I didn't about the ATRIX rom...
Eclipse definitely runs faster and I like the blur-less-ness of it but the ATRIX rom has better battery life and allows 4 touch events at once... so far I haven't decided which one I like better but they are both really good!

Better than all the bloat we end up with by default. The first thing I noticed was that there was virtually no bloat. I'm really digging this atrix port with red ice cream theme. It's got great batt life and stability, and is totally blazing.

I was running on P3s stock rooted Gingerbread until 4 days ago. Honestly, I think my favorite was the stock GB debloated. I am on Eclipse now, and don't get me wrong it is awesome. It is the fastest I have tried so far, and I love the "pure" android feel to it. I also do not get music pops/skips, and I did not on the rooted GB either, must be one of the lucky ones. Now I can say this as well, my battery life has been the best on Eclipse v.05. I am on 1 day and 10 hours on a single charge. I charged my battery to full, then wiped the phone and battery stats then flashed Eclipse and am getting great results. So far, my only complaint is I cannot get the music player to show up on the lockscreen as it did with stock GB rooted and Atrix port. Not a huge deal at all, just something I noticed.

not true last night i was messing around with the scripts and found out a few things.
1) the kernel doesnt care what speed you tell it to run at. it just ignores and runs between 1ghz and 216mhz
2) with out the scripts it still disables the 2nd core when it isnt used
theres a 3rd but i forget it

Should I make this trade guys? I am offered a G2x in great condition(Comes in box) for my MyTouch 4G. So far I like my MyTouch4G. Running smooth and great but this offer has me quite interested. However I would like the opinions of people who own a G2X and not just some reviewer for a site that is probably getting sponsored and doesn't want to be too harsh . or even better someone who has owned 2 devices.
Here is a small summary of things I would like.
-Great battery life
-No hardware problems
-Great XDA Dev support
Thanks in advance! Also I think this is the right section, I looked at all the other ones and I am sure this is it. Sorry if it isn't >.<.
I bought a G2X for my brother and I tested it for quite awhile. Its a great phone. In short if you can trust what the person says and are willing to take the risk, go for it.
Here are the pros:
- G2X has a dual core tegra 2 processor 1 GHz (very fast) vs the Mytouch 4g's single core snapdragon 1 GHz processor (good but not future proof)
- G2X has an 8 megapixel camera vs the Mytouch 4g's 5 megapixel camera
- G2X has a 4.0 inch screen vs the Mytouch 4g's 3.8 inch screen
- G2X has an HDMI port, the Mytouch 4g does not
Cons:
- Slightly less battery life, due to the G2X having a monster dual core processor
But battery life is relative, it depends if you will keep vanilla android or install a custom rom like cyanogen or miui, you could see your battery life improve greatly by rooting and using a custom rom while using root only apps like Setcpu which configure your processor to save battery while the phone is idle.
Long story short, if the phone is in good condition, do it and goodluck!
Right now I have an opportunity to get Line for 15 dollars a month and 50% off data through work. This means I can get a 10gb data plan for $25 a month totaling 40 a month.
Of all the phones on Verizon right now, the HTC rezound and the galaxy nexus are the two phones I'm considering but mainly leaning towards the resound due to its ridiculously crisp screen and great camera and because I'm fed up with Samsung GPS issues. The phone would be $100 for me.
Now should I get it? Or should I wait for the next verizon phone to come out? The only phone coming to Verizon that I could think of is the new incredible. If I wait I'll lose the chance at double the data
Are you guys happy with the resound? What are your complaints ? Likes?

I keep mobile data on, though its usually on 3G and looking for 4G (which uses more power), WiFi at home, GPS when needed, sync always on, etc.
With those settings, I get over a day each charge. That includes checking emails and XDA app a few times an hour. If you browse the internet on mobile data you'll see your battery drain pretty quickly, so use WiFi whenever possible.
Honestly, HTC built a beast of a phone here. Sure, you can get better battery on the RAZR MAXX, or pure Android on the Nexus, but we have the best overall specs in terms of processor, camera, screen (720p is a rarity on phones). Definitely worth your money.
The only other option I can think of other than getting it now is waiting for the incredible 4g to drop and getting the rezound then because the price will drop. But then again you probably won't get the double data so I'd definitely get the rezound now.
Not to be a doubter or anything...but 50% off data? Are you certain about this?

The only other option I can think of other than getting it now is waiting for the incredible 4g to drop and getting the rezound then because the price will drop. But then again you probably won't get the double data so I'd definitely get the rezound now.

I'm not sure Inc4G will be better than the Rez. Sure, it gets the latest iteration of Snapdragon, but a 20% loss in CPU frequency can negate that.
Incredible 4G:
1.2GHz S4 MSM8960 CPU
qHD display (960x540)
8GB internal storage
4" screen
Adreno 225 GPU
Rezound:
1.5GHz S3 MSM8660 CPU
720p display (1280x720)
16GB internal storage
4.3" screen
Adreno 220 GPU
EDIT -- nevermind...i realized afterward you're saying to get the rezound when inc4g drops.

Uhhh.. the Inc 4g will be much better than the rezound, the drop in clock frequency is negligable, the Inc 4g will run faster then our processor and have much better battery life due to the new architecture of the CPU and the smaller 28nm manufacturing process. Clock frequencys don't mean much when your trying to compare processors from different architectures. Also not having an HD screen and a newer GPU will make it run a lot better with anything graphically intense.
I love my Rezound, but as soon as it's out I'll be getting a Inc4G. If you can wait for the Inc4G to be released while still getting that data deal then that's what I'd do. But, 10 gigs of data at 50% off is a sweet deal. If that deal expires soon, why not get the Rezound, and upgrade later?
where are you guys hearing about the double data promo ending? they had this promo back in november when the phone came out, dropped it for like a month, and then brought it back early feb and it's been going on ever since lol..i haven't heard anything of them dropping it any time soon

This is true...if you never have had a phone with an HD screen it may not be a bad buy. I will doubt you will be able to beat the price of the Inc 4G if you can get the Rezound for $100. It's also an added bonus getting some decent headphones too.
Also consider development. I wouldn't expect too many Devs jumping for the Inc 4g to be honest. It may be better to get the Rezound because once resource is released for the for Inc 4g our devs will tear that Sense 4 apart and make our roms soooo much better.

I would jump on the incredible in a heartbeat if it had a bigger screen. I currently have a GS2 on sprint with 4.5" and i feel like 4.0" would be too small. I do get yearly upgrades on that plan though.

Decisions decisions
And I can get any phone I want for 100 less than the two year pricing..excluding iphone

to the guy about recalibrating the battery... it doesn't do anything, a google engineer said so, the system wipes the battery stats file at every full charge so if you charge to the green light it's the same as manually clearing the battery stat.bin thingy ...
regarding battery life to the OP the mugen slim extended battery fits in the regular battery door so more life and no more bulk.
I've had my rezound for over a month now. I'm coming from a sensation 4g and then an EVO. This is the best phone by far. The screen is amazing the cam takes awesome pics. I have no lag at all and get a days use on a fully charged battery. Once CM gets the RIL fixed we will have cm9. Overall great phone I think a lot better than the gnex.
