So this just started a couple of days ago. When I press my lock button to wake my phone up, I now have to wait 1-2 seconds before I can enter my unlock pattern. The screen lights up, but I watched it and it will light up a little bit more after that 1-2 seconds and THEN I can enter my pattern to unlock my phone. I mean, it doesn't hinder my phone's performance after I unlock it, it's just kind of annoying that I can't enter my pattern right away. The same thing happens after I pull the phone away from my ear after a call, I can't pretty the "end call" button until 1-2 seconds after the screen illuminates. Anybody ever heard of this?

Hello, I have been looking all day to find out how to lock the screen during a call.
I keep getting random things happening when I am calling… Hanging up, calling someone else, programs running… etc… Hanging up is the most common for me.
I would like to have the screen lock when connected but have the hardware keys still active so I can end the call. But I also need to be able to get to the keypad and other areas when on a call, but I would like to have to unlock the screen first.
Thanks!
Have you tried hitting the power button on top to turn off the screen during a call? then if you need to get to something you tap the power button again to turn on the screen again. Simple, effective.
That solution does not work with a bluetooth headset. When you disconnect your call via headset, the screen comes on even if the power button has been pressed.
I have S2U2, but I can't figure out if there's a way around this 'feature.'
You should try Throttle Lock. It locks the phone very well.
Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the display while in a call? On my HTC Touch Pro I was able to just press the power button to achieve this - but on the Hero the power button is also the hang up button.
Any ideas?
Actually it's supposed to turn off automatically.
IMO the problem isn't turning the screen off during a call, it's turning it back on when needed.

I agree completely... Is an annoying issue that display go away on call because if you need something, ie keyboard or see call duration you need to do something for have it back.
Why not try this app, which you shake to wake the screen - not tired it myself but worth a go
Shake Awake
If the screen goes blank during a call you can simply press the menu button to wake up the screen again. Just tested that and it works fine.
Still, it would be nice to be able to turn it off when I want and not have to wait for it to time out to switch the display off.
You can also press the answer button to wake screen while in a call.
As to shake-it-to-wake-it, with the non-stick coating on the device I would probably be likely to launch it out of my hand !!! haha
Sprint Hero
I just picked up a Spring HTC Hero this weekend and am finding the same problem. When I place the phone up to my ear the screen does not shut off. However since the end button is also the same button used to turn off the screen, I'm in a catch 22.
For now I have to wait for the screen to time out. Turning the screen back on is not an issue as many have mentioned.
ever since the day i bought my note, i have had to unlock it using this pattern:
1. press the power button and wait for the screen to turn on
2. press the power button to turn off the screen
3. press the power button and wait for the screen to turn on, the screen will now detect my finger.
this happens both with a pattern locked screen or an unprotected lock screen
if i use the s-pen the screen unlocks the first time i turn it on, but if i want to use my finger the power button needs to be tapped 3 times or else i can drag my finger across the screen and it wont detect it
this really sucks how do i fix this?
it does this fully stock, rooted, or with CWM 5.5.0.4 installed

Haven't heard this before, I'd suggest unroot your Note, and see if its still the same (most likely will be), and get it swapped in warranty.
Did a search and didn't find anything related.
So, I have always used the Fingerprint Scanner to unlock my phone.
The process goes (as i'm sure you're all very familiar)
1. Press the Rear Power Button/FP Scanner to wake the phone
2. Swipe my Finger Downward and the phone unlocks
What happens as of late is I press the power button to wake the phone
and then w/o swiping my phone begins to vibrate and the screen informs me that I'm swipping my finger too fast over and over again with continuous vibration. It will still read my FP but it sometimes takes a couple of tries.as it already thinks i've put it in.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for a fix?
Ok, so lately I've noticed when I've had to call a few numbers that need me to Press 1, 2, 3 etc on the dialpad that I can't do it right away. When I put the phone to my ear, as I would expect the screen switches itself off. When I pull the phone away from my face the screen comes on again immediately, but there's about a 5-7 second delay before I can actually press anything. In those seconds after the screen comes on, it wont accept any touch input whatsoever. It's not delayed, presses I make during those seconds just aren't registered at all, then suddenly it begins accepting input as normal. It isn't just number keys either, it's the entire screen, so I can't press End Call until nearly 10 seconds after I've actually pulled the phone away from my face, nor can I move the phone away and press the Speaker Phone button quickly.
This only happens when the screen comes on after being against my face though. If the screen is just turned off and I press the power button, or double tap to wake, it accepts input immediately, so I don't believe it's a hardware problem.
Currently running 4.4.4 rooted, image was made from stock and pre-rooted prior to being flashed onto the phone.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
yeah i've experienced this as well. doesn't happen on speaker though.
No, doesn't happen on speaker phone. If the screen goes off from that and I turn it back on then the screen responds immediately. It only seems to happen in cases where the screen auto shuts off due to it detecting that it's against your face.
