Is anyone else having this problem, sometimes when pressing on a storage card installed app's icon to load it, it is endlessly loading and after 2-3mins you get a windows unable to run message.
If yes, is there a solution for that, except installing everything in phone memory ?
Which App do you mean exactly, or are these everybody of the SD card?
Any app randomly at some point it will crash like this and when the msg comes if you try again the app loads normaly. I read somewhere about this problem but can't find it again...

sorry, have unfortunately no idea for this problem
good luck
Thanx anyway for your interest, appreciate it
try a different memory card/rom ... try a different memory card if u have one at hand , or a rom if u dont have one at hand , u will then know whats causing it
Same here, everything appears to be fine then out of the blue you tap start and tap on any application that is on the SD card and I just get the wait cursor forever and there is nothing you can do but reset.
Whats strange is this happened last night and I pressed reset but it did not reset (maybe just pressed lightly) then it bleeped and said the application could not be found.
I just thought it was me
Me too, on supplied SD card.
I suspect the SD card falls asleep and isn't instantly accessible so leads to this error which causes the 2 or 3 minute hang. I've recently been ensuring I access the SD with a file manager program to wake it up before launching the app I want. I haven't had the error yet when using this pattern.
I might write a launcher program that wakes up the SD card prior to launching the intended app if it continues to look like a sleeping SD card is the cause of the problem.
I first thought it was a problem with .NET programs on the SD card as it's my self-written programs that I use most on the SD card. This is still a possible (but now lesser) suspect for me
Everyone has this problem ... and if you don't ... yer fricken lucky ehhehehe.
Take a look all over the TG01 forums. This problem along with other SD card related problems exist everywhere you go. Now I have owned both the TG01 and the T01a. I don't recall this problem existing on the T01a from DOCOMO. Unfortunately, I couldn't sim unlock the T01a, so I sold it for an unlocked TG01.
My friend, if you could write a launcher to "wake up" the SD card, that would be VERY much appreciated by literally everyone on this forum.
Thank you.... very much in advance,
-Kili.
PS: Something nifty. I have installed everything that runs as a service or consistently in memory on my main memory, and I even use all wallpapers from main memory and make sure that all cashing takes place on the main memory. It hasn't frozen for a few hours now. Even coming out of sleep mode, everything is A-OK.

Yeah thought of doing that but never did cause i soft reset quite often and i want my stuff in storage so i don't lose them.. With the 6.1 rom I don't get this very often, in fact an app stack yesterday after almost two weeks that i'm using this rom. I'm thinking maybe it was also because in 6.5.x roms i used changed icons for apps that were all in storage also, whereas in 6.1 i didn't find any way to change icons, so i'm using the stock ones. Anyway i'm happy at least i don't get it often.
Holy crap! It really really worked.
Well.... holy crap! I loaded up Resco Explorer, open up my SD Card, "Woke it up" so to speak. Then I can use the programs on my SD Card without fear. I think there is a definite work around here, we need someone to come up with a "SD Wake-up" program for the TG01, I would do it myself but I would probably brick everyone's devices in the process ehehehehheehhe(I don't know how to program)! Thank-you so much LesForges. You da man for coming up with the easy-yet-impossible-for-kili-to-find workaround/solution.
I haven't had this problem occur in one day now. My phone has been rock solid... it is a miracle! Honestly .. I feel a certain peace inside.
Guys seriously we need to get the word out about this solution. We can use this and probably overcome this horrible annoying error with a simple application!

Allright... I can't program, BUT I CAN DAMN SURE MIX N' MASH... ohh yeah
All-right, what is the one problem that plagues all of our devices? THE "SD CARD" sleep mode/app loading problem/freezing for no reason/and generic crappiness of the Toshiba SD CARD drivers.
And for you lucky few that haven't got a clue what I am talking about ... this goes out to you... "SKREW YOU EHHEEHEH mahthafa'&Az, I HATE YOU.... ya lucky basterd skum" (Just kidding of course) eheheheh
Needless to say, some people this doesn't seem to effect, others, this is a nightmare, so much so, I have contemplated selling my beautiful device before finding this. The Windows Mobile 6.1 rom solved so many problems for me, but still this one SD Freeze after Sleep mode problem persisted... This is how I overcame the issue.
First of all... what is the problem... the problem is easily duplicated if you go into sleep mode, wait a couple of minutes, then your sd card goes to sleep, then turn the device back on and run a program or application that is installed on the sd card. Your device will freeze and if it didn't freeze this time, try it a few more times... it will freeze. To overcome this issue, as stated above, go into Resco Explorer and open up the SD Card and then your SD Card has been "woken up" so to speak and then everything is good again. But how does one automate the process? You must do this.
Install S2U2 - Swipe to Unlock 2, after configuring it, go into the "STU2 Settings", then go to "Others" in the options area, then point it to Resco Explorer. Now the nifty thing about Resco Explorer is that you have the option have it default to open in any directory that you desire. So of course, set it to "\Storage Card" ... that's all. So basically whenever your device goes to sleep, it will automatically open up the SD Card once you want to use your device again, so it will never catch you off-guard again. The problem is solved. Now.. for the next item, I really want to just close Resco Explorer as soon as I open it, can one make an executable batch file in Windows Mobile? Then all our problems are truly solved. I notice that I have to hover in the SD Card area for about 3 seconds for the icons in the root directory to populate. I assume you need to have Resco Explorer kinda on a timed delay.. So you use Swipe to Unlock 2 and then it should open up Resco for about 3 seconds and then quit. I don't want to minimize Resco, I really want to quit it so if the device goes into sleep mode again, then it is already set for next time. I notice the icons are cashed in memory wen I leave the program open, so I always have to go up and down a couple of directories in order to "Wake Up" the card.
If someone knows how to make some kind of script that would open up my Resco for a couple of seconds and then close it, man that would sure be appreciated. Thank you.

So... I just got my 16Gb Class 10 Kingston in the mail... I will let everyone know if it also solves this problem. I assume it will not fix the problem but hey if I can get a little more speed out of my device then I am happy. I will post my results later.

Tried my Kingston 16 Gb Class 10, but to no avail, problem still persists. So just stick with the above solution.

Do you know MORTSCRIPT? I think that this is exactly what you are looking for...
Unfortunately I'm just a beginner on this program.
Although the above solution would probably work (and so does navigating to the app and running the EXE directly), my preferred solution is just to install everyting in main memory. Its annoying to loose a feature like that, I know, but so far all of the apps I've wanted to install on the SD card came to a total of about 10MB, so its a lot easier just to install them in main memory and be done with it.
Maybe someone could write a mortscript to read the contents of a text file in the root of the SD card before lanching the chosen app?
I believe Schap's advanced config 3.3 will do the trick
http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/view.download/11/21.html
It has lots of settings and tweaks
Just goto power management and disable SD card
It worked for me
Holy crap! #2.... and I mean a big #2 Holy Crap!
Wow.. if this works... I will report back later, right now I am testing it. I will let everyone know if it works, but if the SD Card doesn't go into sleep mode, then this problem is totally solved.... WOW! I will check back later and let everyone know.
[Update - 12:36pm - Tokyo Time]
No freeze as of yet, Schap's advanced config v3.3 has done the job. However my activesync is now disconnecting after 5 minutes of being connected to the computer, it is still charging but it just disconnects. So, I assume it has something to do with installing Shaps, it is not a big deal. To fix it, I went into the power options in Schap's advanced config v3.3 and I disabled the power saving feature for "AsyncMAC". So hopefully that will do the trick. Another interesting fix is for the icon disappearing problem. There really is only one solution that I can find that works in both windows mobile 6.5 and 6.1. Go and change the icons using an icon changer and have the icons stored locally and not on the SD Card. Then everything is fine, then you now have a perfect device.
That is all she wrote my friends, we now have working devices. Really we need to make a sticky for these two fixes. This needs to be implemented into every rom, this is the biggest problem for our devices and they have been solved by the good members on this board, I wish i could take credit for something, however heheheheh, I can't. Wafeeq YOU ARE AWESOME. Thanks man for the suggestion.
Freezing Problem - "Schap's Advanced Config v3.3" - http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/view.download/11/21.html - Go to power management and disable the power saving feature for the SD Card.
Missing Icons Workaround for WM 6.1 - "SK Shortcut Manager" - http://www.s-k-tools.com/index.html?sksmgr/m_sksmgr.html - One needs to change the icons for programs installed on your SD Card, remember, use icons located in the main memory and not on the SD Card.
Missing Icons Workaround for WM 6.5 - "JWMD Icon Changer" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080 - Again, one only needs to change the icons for programs installed on your SD Card, use icons located in the main memory and not on the SD Card.
Thats it... fricken awesome shizenziebittle I am so ecstatic right now. Everything is done, I can just enjoy my device now. Yai.

Running CM7 N84 with the 5/23 OC kernel and untimely uboot...
I recently have been trying to find a way to watch video over my network without having to download it to my nook l. (VLC stream and convert is unstable for me and involves a big loss of quality)
There are two apps in the market that solve this problem perfectly, except for one major issue: they crash root explorer so badly that only flashing a nandroid backup can fix it.
Cifsmanager and mount manager both mount network shares to /mnt. From here I could open my network video files just as easily and reliably as if they were on the nook itself. . . For a while.
But using either program seems to cause a major problem with root explorer and another file manager I sometimes use. It doesn't happen straight away, but after a little while, (I think it may be when the mount point is unmounted) I try to open root explorer and it hangs, and then force closes, leaving the system highly unstable, breaking market and constantly maxing out the cpu, and nothing seems to fix it.
I tried rebooting...still a constant 1200 in cpu spy, even while doing nothing on conservative governor, plus a broken market, and everything is laggy and unresponsive. So I tried re-flashing CM7 and the OC kernel, wiping cache and dalvik cache. STILL the same problem!!!
Only restoring a nandroid backup fixes it. I've just done that three times today, trying to find some way to get it to work...at first I thought the problem showed up only when the share was mounted, so I tried unmounting before opening a file manager and just browsing to the videos in vital player. Nope. I STILL got the NEVER-ENDING CRASH. Then I thought it might just be a problem with cifsmanager, so I tried the same thing with mount manager instead... same problem.
Does anybody have any idea either why root explorer crashes after a cifs share has been mounted and even (or perhaps especially) after it has been unmounted again, or how a crash can cause such long lasting damage?
I am tempted to try one more thing... changing the mount point to some other location, intead of /mnt. But after doing three nandroid restores in one day, I am hesitant!

I've been using CIFS Manager for some time on my phone, and now on my Nook, and have never experienced the problems you're describing. I've noticed if I leave shares mounted on my phone, it will kill the battery quicker, but I believe that it's because it's keeping the WiFi connection open and preventing it from disconnecting when the phone goes to sleep. But I've never noticed high CPU usage, on the phone or the Nook.

Huh.
Are you running CM7, with OC? Where do you have your shares mounted - /mount/cifs or somewhere else? And do you use root explorer? It is root explorer which crashes after I unmount cifs shares, and it is only when root explorer crashes that I have this issue.

I'm on CM7 nightly 87 (was using nightly 76 before that), but not an overclocked kernel (I used the setting in CM7 to overclock to the 925 mhz, but I'm not using that other kernel).
And yea, all shares are mounted to /mnt/cifs I mount a share, use Root Explorer to access/copy the files on the share, and then unmount it with CIFS manager. Root explorer works fine afterwards - the /mnt/cifs directory is gone as soon as I unmount.
The only issues I've had with Root Explorer is sometimes when I try to start it, it'll hang with a black screen before I get the initial directory listing, I've never had it crash later on.
Curious what could be causing your issues. I just tried unmounting a share while Root Explorer was still open, thinking that might cause it to crash, but nope, kept working fine. The mnt/cifs/NAS directory was still there after being unmounted, but Root Explorer just found it to be empty.
Not to discount all the effort people put into kernels, but from my experience with my phone, I tend to stay as close to stock as possible (CM7 stock, in this case). I've just found most 3rd party kernels and tweaked roms to always be a bit flaky - there's always something that's not working or causing some sort of problem. Maybe you could try the stock CM7 kernel.
Oh, and for the cifs manager settings, I just have "load cifs module" checked, I'm not using any separate .ko files (like I have to on my phone).
Have you tried File Expert? Its a file explorer with network options. I stream movies from my computer that way. And it has network discovery as well.
Oh and its freeee!!!!

So I tried it again, with somewhat better results. Root Explorer would still crash on me - it hangs on a black screen before getting the directory listing, just like you describe, but if I don't exit out in time, it Force Closes. However, the crash did NOT cause the CPU to go crazy this time, or break market. I'm not sure why this part of the problem didn't recur, but I mentioned in my OP, cifs manager had also been crashing another File Manager program, by Joydao. I've since uninstaller that program. Maybe that was the culprit for the CPU issue?
Once I got a hang at the black screen, Root Explorer was essentially broken though, as every time I tried to load it, it gave me the black screen, even after rebooting.
However, I noticed that when it gave me the black screen it wasn't giving me the "root explorer has been granted superuser access" that pops up whenever root explorer starts normally, and since cifs manager needs superuser access as well, I thought this might be the culprit. So I opened up superuser, went into the settings. I clicked "check for update", and it crashed. I re-opened superuser and clicked "check for update" again, and it told me it was up to date. After this, root explorer started working normally again.
For now, I'm going to keep cifs manager installed, and hope for the best

Just checked it out and it looks really nice. It only wants to open unknown file types (videos, etc.) in an installed browser instead of letting me choose an installed video player, for example. Couldn't find anything in the settings to add more programs to an "open with" list.
Other than that, it seems pretty good. Love the network discovery. CIFS Manager seems to provide a little more seamless access, mounting shares right to the phone so any app can access files (if you mount it to a directory on the SD card, which works even though I believe it's discouraged). But I'll be keeping File Expert installed too, the interface is really nice and easy to use.

Glad to hear it's not causing quite so much trouble now. Yea, sometimes something completely unexpected is causing the problem. I've found the combination of cifs manager and Root Explorer to work really well, so I wouldn't be surprised if the problem was as a result of some other conflicting app.

Actually, Astro sees your Removable storage just fine. You just have to set up the paths in Preferences.

I see what you mean. I had Astro set for /Removable/MicroSD as the external SD card directory, but when I went to check it after your post it suddenly gives me the internal SD path as the external SD. I am guessing that something happened after the latest update to confuse Astro? I can still navigate to /Removable/MicroSD, but I can no longer set it as the default in Preferences as the external SD card.
I am using root explorer. It sees the micro sd card just fine, it gives it the name /removable i think. I have not tried a usb stick though. I use it since it allows me to edit /system files once rooted.
If rooted definitely root explorer.
They all show up under /removable/micro SD,SD,etc.

I looked at Root Explorer on the Market, but the few specifications there did not mention if it could do Samba. Do you know if it can? One of the reasons I have been using Astro is because it can Samba into my desktop PC's file system.
Ghost commander for file's transfers and File Manager HD for rest. That is my combination.

But not the same story with ATP.
I recently downloaded FX File Explorer and it seems pretty good. It also allows FTP and Samba connections. Here is a link to the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=nextapp.fx&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5leHRhcHAuZngiXQ..
I noticed an issue with my favorite file explorer the other day, when trying to copy a large file over wifi, it would fail every time when letting the tablet sleep. I am using an alternate file explorer for those large file copies but really wish I could move back to ES FE. Anyone have this experience? It fails literally every time I do a file over a few hundred Meg. I don't have the issue on any of my other android devices, but none have ICS. Maybe an issue with ICS and that program? Or just my Prime? It is not losing the signal, just stops the transfer--- still shows that it is going but never completes and file size never changes.
I have the same problem. Beside that I'm somehow unable to cancled a transfer, I had several failed downloads of huge files. Also switched to a different file-browsers which works without problems.
Mine failed too...
Can anyone confirm other devices that have ICS having the issue? It would be helpful to know if it had something to do with ICS or just the prime. I actually installed it based on recommendations from this forum and found issues with it on my first large file transfer... I can agree on how powerful and simple it is but switched over to File Explorer HD because it works. Not that I recommend FEHD, full of ads and still not "HD" enough for the prime
Is there a manual somewhere how to transfer files with wifi using es explorer?

It's not a prime (or ICS) specific problem. It happens frequently across all my devices with ES File Explorer. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to cancel a copy once it's started.
wohli - there may be a manual somewhere but it really is pretty easy. Just tap the "local" selection on the top left corner of the app, then choose LAN. You can either scan for servers with SMB shares or you can attach one by using the "add" dialog, that will ask for user/pw, IP or name, domain (optional). Then hold on a file from one of the shares for the copy option. Then use the same menu at the top left to get back to local, then tap the paste button at the top.
vels13 - Thanks for the info!! Question: Why do you think there are so many people that recommend ESFE if it doesn't even do a decent wifi copy? I have seen it plastered on every "first apps to install" post and "recommended apps" post!!

I actually like the app and use it for wifi copying, but it does halt frequently when copying files over wifi and that's kind of frustrating. Usually happens on really large files or when you queue up a bunch. I don't think I've ever been able to queue up say 10 video files and get them all to finish. The annoying thing is when it finally does stop copying, you can't cancel and restart, you have to force close the app or reboot phone. I've experienced this on transformer prime, galaxy 10.1, and my HTC glacier. Works great for smaller files though.
This is probably obvious, but I believe the Prime is set to turn off wifi when sleeping by default. This might be an ICS default.
You can change it under Wifi->Advanced.
Yeah, same here. Both my phone and Prime have that problem w/ ES.
I don't know if there's a better WiFi file manager on the market but I really like ES.
Even if wifi is set to sleep when the prime does... the prime will not fully sleep with a data stream going of any kind. Other File explorers do not fail when it sleeps.
vels-- Why would you use something that constantly errors, and has the issues that you described? Like I said, I am using File Explorer HD.. at least it works!
Does ANYONE know of a good file explorer that will pull files down from wifi reliably? It would also be nice if it had most of the features from ES and even better yet if it displayed at native resolution for our primes!!!
Anyone?

It works well enough for what I need it for 95% of the time. If I need to transfer a big file or a lot of files, it's quicker to do it over USB anyways.

Try Ghost commander. Not a good interface, but work well for wifi transfer, and you can see a speed - current/average.
