Hey all,
I finally got around to removing the yellow triangle today, and all went well, until i tried to get back into to CWM. Its gone. is this normal?
Everytime i reboot I get amn "installing update package' with the image of an android next to a box with an arrow coming out.
How do I get it back again? im running Batista ROM and have a bunch of backups I want to keep using.
thanks for your help!
how did you remove it? if you had used an USB Jig, nothing would have changed your system except resetting the custom counter and removing the yellow triangle. BUT if you have used a stock kernel and flashed it to get rid of it, then your rooted kernel including CWM is gone now.
You might be able to get a fake cwm by flashing cwm from within rom manager but no guarantee.

When you flashed the stock kernel back in, CWM recovery was removed because it is not in the stock kernel package. To get it back, just start up the CWM app (it is still there), and flash the zImage file that you extract from the kernel that you originally used to get CWM. Doing it this way will give you the rooted kernel + CWM recovery without the yellow triangle at boot.

I reflashed the origianl kernal (KE7) using odin. The custom ROM still works sweet. Just no CWM.

CWM is not there.... I have got ROM manager premium, but it doesnt make any difference.. no recovery.
OK, I ended up re-flashing ninphetamine(?) kernal over top using odin an I can get recovery ok again .
I was sure you could reflash an original kernal to remove the yellow triangle, then re-reflash a custom kernal using CWM. (the other way being the usb jig).
Have I missed a step with the CWM method?
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
Hi . i rooted my Galaxy S2 with insecure kernel and then flashed the original KF3 kernel through CWM ..... but I am not able to boot to the recovery mode.. I am getting "E:failed to verify whole-file signature, E: signature verification failed" Device is rooted .... Please help ...
Make life easy for yourselves go to ebay and buy a jig for about £2.50.
If you want to verify root status get root check from the market, if your flashing a secure kernel over an insecure kernel chances are your gonna lose root.

That looks right... but just in case, here are expanded steps.
1. flash a CF-Root kernel using Odin to get root. (Should include app "CWM Manager" in your app drawer; it's labelled as just "CWM")
2. flash a stock kernel using Odin to remove triangle
3. extract zImage file from CF-Root kernel zip file you used in step 1 (or in your case, you can extract the zImage file from the ninphetamine kernel zip file)
4. push extracted zImage file to your phone
5. start up "CWM Manager" in your app drawer (should still be there)
6. select "Flash kernel"
7. find the zImage file you pushed to your phone in step 4, and flash

I have the same problem but when i go to flash the kernel it doesnt flash it. It brings up the recovery menu but doesnt really do anything and reboots the phone with the same stock kernel
i have a sgs2 and im on the process of rooting, i followed this guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 and im on step 10, when i opened s2 root, a dialog box appears with this detail:Index was outside of the bounds of the array and this is included in details tab See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
Now i tried super one click but it also failed with this message:

guys i really need your help, im a noob when it comes to this kinds of things...
help me please, anyone??
Did you remember to install the Keis drivers?
in the link posted above, the one i followed, there is no step that tells how to set up drivers, but i have kies in my s2..
Hey I had the same problem it was fixed by using an older superroot program i think v1.9.1
When you insrall kies on your pc it automatically installs the drivers for you. If you use odin to flash make sure kies is not running at the same time on the pc though
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
If you have not fixed just use the simple cwm and root method .
Root + CWM .

did the same thing again, but this time i made sure kies isn't running, i flash using odin and its ok, but the same problem happened again, while rooting using the latest version of super one click there's a dialogue box that suddenly opened and downloaded 3 files, and then i think it was odin3 that crashed and the whole process failed just like in my first post.
Q: how will i know if i already have the kies driver installed in my phone?
@JJegan - i will try that post but if im sure i understand what to do, im still rereading it..
Really can't think what has gone wrong. I must admit I haven't used superoneclick. I used the CF-Root method as recommended by JJE. Very easy. Just don't get hung up about the yellow triangle until you have everything working.
Hope this helps
thanks killall and JJEgan for all those tips, i think i made it this time, but how will i know if im my phone is rooted now?
@killall - how did you remove that yellow triangle?
You know it's rooted if you have superuser installed. For me getting rid of yellow triangle by using odin and flashing secure kernel similar to my phone. Then using cwm manager flashing one of the cf root kernel. Lastly download or install backup rom. Yellow triangle gone.

Hi
As macdaddyau says just follow the instructions on the CF-root thread.
I use a USB Jig which puts the phone into Download mode allowing you to flash without the yellow triangle. It also resets the flash counter. There are loads of them on ebay.
when you say secure kernel is it the same with original kernel?

thanks, but i still have some questions, after flashing the original kernel, what will i flash using cwm? the one that i used on rooting?
lastly why do we need to install a back up rom and what are the best rom out there?can i use titanium backup cause i read from here that its a good app..
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
(1) Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
(2) Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
(3) Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
(5) Reboot into download mode , or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
(6) Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
7) Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
(8) Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
(9) You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
(10) In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)
thanks jjegan i think my phone is rooted now, the problem now is with the rom backups..
I think what @macdaddyau meant by backup rom, was if you had made a nandroid backup (done in recovery) of your current rom before you got rid of the yellow triangle, then you could re flash it.
If you don't have one then just download and install the custom rom you want then once it is set up as you like it, do a backup through nandroid or CWM app.
Hope this helps

-Install TitaniumBackup from the market. It will tell you if your rooted or not.
-And to remove the yellow traingle, you have to flash the stock kernel.
can i use titanium backup if i followed chainfire's way of rooting?
So I installed Kies, made sure it is not running
Ran Odin and flashed the kernel (all is good, got root and the superuser)
(I am also able to boot into CWM and also got the triangle)
BUT,
I cannot run the zimage (it said it cannot be found) and if I flash the stock kernel I lose the root
I am trying to figure out, what do I need to do after I run Odin with the custom kernel.
(as I try to remove the triangle and then get a rom and have fun?!) -- do I need anything else like CMW app, busybox

So where did you put the ZImage on the root of sd card ??
Are you sure file is shown as zimage

actually, i tried to mount sd from CWM but did not mount, so I think I am missing something
the zimage was put in root SD but since I cannot mount it, nothing shows up
I am assuming for this to happen i need USB debug checked, then boot into CWM and then it will do fine?
You need to follow the instructions .

i just flash zip through Odin now and it works .

Hi,
Firstly I will mention I'm a noob. I hgavent installed a modified ROM before, I currently have the latest 2.3.5 KJ2 firmware which I flashed using ODIN.
I want to installed a modified ROM mainly to get a digitial battery display in percent on my notification bar. However it appears all these modified ROMS require flashing through your SD card. The problem is I dont have an SD card. Is there a way to do this through USB only (i.e. Odin)?
Also what ROM and kernel would best suit my simple needs?

save the rom of your choosing on your phones usb storage...there you can flash it easily...so download rom and you will find it if you go in my files then search the folder download and it should be there ready for you in a zip file..
just follow the instructions at the main page of the rom thread that you want to flash and you should be fine..
first though if you are not already make sure you flash a cf root kernel so you get rooted and then go ahead and flash a rom....once you have cf on then you should have cwm were you can flash your rom through there...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
follow the guide in that link (im sure you have done but its late here so sorry) and then will see you have cwm and then flash your rom of your choosing
I'm rooted but I rooted the old way --> flashed an insecure kernel, downloaded this program called S2 root and rooted via USB, then flashed the original kernel back. It appears that by doing it this way, I don't have clockworkmod recovery..
Should I always flash using the way you said?
Ok.. so let me go through the process..
1) Get a CF root Kernel which will allow me to have cwm. Question: Does the kernel version always have to match the 'ROM' version? When I updated to KJ2 I see that under phone info the 'Baseband Version' reads I9100XXKI4. Does baseband mean ROM, i.e. I have KI4 ROM but KJ2 kernel?
2) Flash following instructions from the modified ROM. I can simply store the rom on my phones memory and flash from there. Do I have to do anything after this? e.g. wouldnt I have to flash another kernel from that modified ROM, and in doing so would I lose my root and cwm? How important it for ROMS to match kernels?
Also, when I install the CF root kernel I get the yellow triangle on boot right.. I read the method on your link to remove it but it seems complicated. What is he actually doing to remove the triangle? Is he flashing back the original kernel?
The method he mentioned is the easiest way to flash a custom kernel, without having the yellow triangle.
The kernel doesn't have to match the ROM version. A custom kernel, e.g. like hardcore's speedmod (can be found in the original android section) installs root and CWM automatically.
Flash the custom kernel with Odin. The yellow triangle should appear after that. But CWM should be available and you're rooted now.
Reflash the original Kernel with CWM to remove the yellow triangle.
But wouldn't reflashing the original kernel using cwm defeat the purpose of flashing the custom kernel? Also do I use 'flash an update' or :?'flash a kernel's what's the main difference?

Any stock kernel is flashed through ODIN after rooting to get rid of yellow triangle. Afterwards, to flash any kernel of your choice, use DarkyROM tool.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ficeto.darkyrom&hl=en
Just copy the kernel tar file in to your usb storage and you can flash the kernel within phone using darkyrom tool (no need of pc). Also this method won't give you back the yellow triangle again.
And to be safe, it's a wise idea to buy an USB jig to reset your binary counter.
Thanks for your help Droid. Interesting I noticed that I did not get the yellow triangle after flashing siyah kernel over cwm. Original kernel before that was the stock one modified as per crikelos instructions to get the speedmod.. is that normal?
Ohh I don't get the binary counter thing. Why do I need to reset it? And how and why can a USB jig do this? A link would help. Thanks!

Hey guys, I've had my S2 for about a month and decided to root it using Chain fire's post. I have the Telstra firmware(just incase), stock kernel and CF-root kernel, after rooting I flashed the stock kernel to remove the warning triangle, I still had root access and then tried using CWM zImage via the app... my phone rebooted into recovery mode but says:
-- copying media files...
Successfully copied meida files
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Updating application..
successfull...--Applying Multi-CSC...
Installing " "
Can't access to '/system/csc/TEL/sytem/
Successfully applied multi-CSC
then finally the normal(not clockworkmod from root) android recover options appear.
Does anyone know of a different root to CF-Root where I can use a stock kernel that doesn't hijack the recovery options?.

Recovery is part of the kernel, so all kernels will overwrite the recovery when you flash them.
Follow the guide in the cf-root thread to the letter to get CWM and remove the yellow triangle, or buy a USB jig and use it to reset counter and remove the yellow triangle.
I did exactly as the guide says, recovery now only works if I don't use a stock kernel.
I went into download mode, opened odin making sure repartition isn't checked, loaded CF-root-KF4.tar, got root access, the phone rebooted i made sure it was rooted and checked out CWM recovery then went into download mode again and flashed the stock kernel from Intratech's Telstra Carrier branded firmwares Thread and root was fine so I checked CWM recovery and it was gone, I then extracted zImage from the CFroot I flashed and placed on the phone /sdcard I ran CWManager clciked flash kernel>Zimage and it rebooted into the normal recovery mode with CSC crap there still.
How is there not a root program that doesn't modify (doesn't change features) recovery mode? I'd like to update by KIES in future and need to keep the stock kernel I believe.
Other root methods are posted on XDA .

it wasn't useless there are other methods ie super one click root

Other methods to root
Zergrush
Superoneclickroot
You *need* a custom kernel in order to have CWM recovery on the SGS2, if you just want root, you can flash a root kernel, then flash your stock kernel.
You will LOSE CWM but KEEP root.
Also CF-root is a stock kernel, just with a modified initramfs (added root and CWM recovery)
I think JJ was referring to searching the forum and you will find the other methods..... So not useless unless you need spoon feeding

When I said Useless I mean not being helpful, and it wasn't I've checked the forums which I thought I read superoneclick doesn't work on retail phones.
and on the and then there was root I saw the guide has been super-ceded by CF-root, most guides on youtube are CF-root I'll have to just look around more.
@Veyka is the superoneclick root working? and what's the alternative you suggest?.
