You sure can. Once you overclock at all, the second core automatically gets its max frequency pushed up to whatever the overclock is, even if it doesn't get activated until its needed.
You can check this with root explorer by going to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq (I think that's the path, typing it off memory)

So I've been wondering does keeping it oc at 1.2ghz damage anything to the phone? I've read that it can kill your device lifespan is that true? Thanks

hey rider...what you mean by that ..like when it hard freezes or what ?
I assume the vibrant can handle the 1.2ghz with ease?

Not exactly.
Some of the Vibrants just can't handle ANY overclocking at all, they just freeze, and reboot too much because your processor is being worked too hard when it can't do it.
If you have a normal, regular vibrant, then yeah you can such as me, i can overclock as much as i want, i've gone to 1.4 with no problems...
but some people do have the problem, and having that can burn the plastic in your phone (its happened to a few over the year)

Yep.
Mine can run at 1.4 EASY with no heating up at all (I was surprised).
I wish there was a 1.6+ kernel, so I could push this processor to the max.
To understand the limits of the Vibrant's processor it's important to understand processors in general.
The process of manufacturing for a processor is not perfect. You get pristine chips and below standard chips; so essentially no two processors are the same just like fingerprints. So what they do for quality control is stress test each one individually within a specific range. If it can handle 1Ghz up to 1.x then it passes, if it can't hit 1Ghz minimum then it's destroyed/recycled (or whatever numbers Samsung in this case felt were reasonable). It's the only way to ensure every device functions the same.
Now translate that into people's individual phone. In essence it's the luck of the draw. Did you get the perfect manufactured chip? Only way to tell is to over clock it and stress test it. Some people get the perfect one, and others get the ones that barely made the cut. It works the same for all electronics.
Hope this information helped.

for better dual core support now shows both cores
Thanks for the heads up, and but is it optimize for gingerbread now?
I just noticed my first core is just running at 740 mhz and the first seems off, I remember the OG evo always would run at 800mhz plus
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
SystemPanel Lite was not updated however
I don't use it enough to justify buying it, so I guess I'll wait and see if they update the free version.
Thanks

Will have to load up and check it out. I bought it when I had my OG Evo but stopped using it, it was kind of a hog so I switched to Watchdog. (*Watchdog doesn't show nearly the detail as CP) We have plenty of headroom on the 3VO so I will give it a whirl again.
Thanks for the headsup!
It show the second core dead for the most part anyone else see this? It will move the second core when I wake the phone but thats about it.
Edit:
On my Xoom it shows both cores playing together.

Xoom doesn't have asynchronous cores. The cores on the 3D only activate when needed. They operate independently, so the second core will only be running when it needs to be.

Hey zone23 i know the you develop roms coming from the OG evo myself, you think it will be a way to make both run side by side, and I mean that phone is speedy but just wondering

System Panel Lite just updated for me and now shows the second core.

That is something that I want an answer to as well..imagine the speed this thing would have if we could.open up both cores..then we could show the gs2 what's what ..
I decided to make this thread to answer anyone's questions on MOSTLY but not limited to the EVO 3D's hardware.
Oh and for those who want to take screen shots hold the power button and quickly tap home for a surprise (only works with stock 2.3.4 Rom)

Any chance someone could make a kernel that runs the cores synchronized?
Recommend a accurate CPU widget that shows the current CPU speed?

2 great questions, alright for the synchronization I think they'd have to be ultimate hackers because the snapdragon processor wasn't designed for that so try and make a request
And as for a CPU widget Temp+CPU widget It's great
Hope I helped.

Here is a link to a script that makes your phone smoother and less laggy. It works for all phones and is easy to install. Everything you need is here in this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Please tell others what settings worked best for you.

This script was not written for high end devices such as this one... Or anything with a dual core CPU... You might see a difference using a single core but this script was written for Ram management on lower end devices and devices with little ram... Using on a 1.5Ghz dualcore phone with 1GB of ram might imo be a waste of time...

I used to use this on my G2x, my quadrants and all benchmarks JUMPED with it, and worked REALLY well for it. But with the Amaze (I've already used it etc etc) I don't see any difference, the amaze's amount of ram is probably a big contributor to that fact but also probably the version of Android also, as my G2x was running 2.3.3....

It's the ram and the cpu the g2x is a 1Ghz dualcore we have 1.5Ghz dualcore the g2x only has a couple hundred MBs or ram amaze is 1GB... And that's why u see no improvement...

I thought that's what I said.. hehehe probably not so much the CPU though as the script only modifies ram management.

Ya... explain that to dual core Atrix users...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574&highlight=supercharger&page=221
Comments such as "it's pretty mind blowing" probably warrants investigation despite recommendations from people who have never tried it.
Oh... and the lower end device cannot choose this option:
Code:
9. 1000HP Super UnLedded{6,12,200,225,250,300}
Since it's designed for high end devices too, I prevent low end devices from going too over the top

Ay smart guy they don't have a full gig of ram... You will not see any difference in performance on this device and thats why the EVo 3D didn't waste their time on it...
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Doesn't matter.
"Gurus" always say the same thing... last time it was that it won't do anything on a device with 512MB of ram...
How much ram does a SGS II have, smart guy?
Actually, seems the specs are close to this device... so here you go...
Android Spin article... author is using the SGS II
http://androidspin.com/2011/11/02/v6-supercharger-the-android-memory-fixer/
Bookmark it so you can read it whenever your phone lags
It's nice to see that people still don't get the concept of "work smarter, not harder" because it makes it easier for those that do work smarter to get ahead.
My settings don't "stick" after a reboot, and the help file is blank, 0 bytes.

Did you run the latest update 9 RC3.2?
If not, use that.
Pretty sure that problem doesn't happen anymore with the newest versions.
no, I was using version 8, but I'll give the new one a try. thanks for the reply
Ok cool... there are alot more options so if you're unsure about what an option does, just select it and it will give an explanation before it does anything.
Hello.
I want to buy the Evo 3D. But I met some opinions that second cpu core is almost always offline, even while playing with games or benchmarks.
It is right? Is there any fix for this? What is the situation in stock HTC roms?
Greetings.

It's just for battery life.
If you want both cores to be online, download the free version of system tuner and force both cores online through the cpu tab.

So, without System Tuner, in stock ROMs 2nd core will be always offline?
will not be always offline, it will be offline when you dont' need it, and start when you need it, just as your pc.
when you write on forum it probly use 1 cpu, when you use photoshop it uses 4.
it's just an example!

No. It'll turn on when the phone needs it; if cpu0 gets "over loaded", then cpu1 turns on to relieve stress on the other.
