I just saw my friend's i9100 had dual OS, android and IOS. How can I do that?

Absolutely*
There actually is a phone that you can get that dual boots Android and iOS, and we've seen that you can dual boot an iPhone with Android on it.
Neither of those are Galaxy S2 though, and if your friend has told you he's running iOS on a Galaxy S2 then he's either mistaken, pulling your leg or just flat out lying. It's not possible.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Good question, though. Can you run two Android roms side by side? And can your apps and files remain unchanged no matter which you boot in to?

Do not quote me on it as I am not sure but I believe that DoomLord on the X10 forum did a dualboot thingy. He's a legend over there!

Dualboot on SGS2 vv check link in sig vv.
It's 2x Android though, no iOS (what even remotely sane person would want that anyways....).
I'm also puzzling on a small app to make the set up of the dualboot more easy, but it isn't done yet.
Sharing apps between boots should also be possible up to a certain extend....
Man this thing didn't even cross my mind. Would be a great way of using CM7 without having to give up on samsung camera and polaris office.
gokhanmoral is working on dual-booting for our phone. He already happen to make it to his phone and now have to find the way how it going to happen on others phones.
If I may, wth is the point of dual booting 2 androids??

For example, being able to run a samsung firmware based ROM and an AOSP ROM like CM7 on the same device. That way you can get the speed and smoothness of CM7 without loosing the samsung apps that can't run in CM7, like the camera or polaris office.
That is at least why I would be doing dual booting on my phone. I just used polaris office too much when I was on stock Samsung!

Title says it all. I know we already got a rom really quick but I was currious if atrix well ever get on the nexus one level with a bunch of roms and devs? Also will there be roms that remove moto blur?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Development for the atrix won't be quite like the Nexus, since that was a dev style phone.
Also, we don't technically have a ROM as it is just the modification of system files, and not a complete flashable package.
If a Nexus One like experience is important, consider the Nexus S when it comes to AT&T.

Try installing an alternate launcher like ADW, Go Launcher, or Launcher Pro (my launcher of choice) in the meantime.
Edit: Also, Moto said somewhere they will give us the tools in the future to really play with the phone, so only time will tell. If they ever keep to that promise, then we'll have nothing stopping us from really getting ROMs and Kernels out just like any phone with an unlocked bootloader.
Im sure were getting closer. I think we have quite a few developers working on trying to unlock it. Also, DG is working very hard at it too. Once it's unlocked we should see quite a few ROMs, kernels, and themes since it is atts first major android phone and the first dual core phone out.

Hello all
First of all im not good english because my main language is italian anyway:
Im new i receiv this phone for a fews weeks ago my father gave me as gift from china.
Im using cyanogen mod 7 and i have kernel like 2.6.35.7-gedb93be [email protected] #1
The question is this: How i can update firmware automatic without doing so complicate and easy way to do??
I heard most people use SGH-I9100 and update with program Samsung Kies easy.
Well for this SGH-I777 cannot use kies and doesnt work either.
Any suggestion? Maybe a nice alternative for update in future?
Hope this information help a bit
Thank for support!
Alan
I'm pretty sure that's only possible if you have rom manager pro ...sort of , I'm pretty sure if you want to update you have to download and flash the update
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Kies + cm7 would never work anyway. Cm7 is an aosp rom and kies only works with Samsung builds.
Sent from my HTC PH39100
If you are trying to update CM7 to newer builds you can use rom manager paid app and have access to it. OR you can also download the newer CM7 updates from here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2att
If you are wanting to upgrade the stock samsung firmware then you will need to go back to stock samsung rom for kies to work I think.

Thanks for all guys i paid premium rom manager and there seems all ok!
Remain only a problem about NFC when i go setting wireless + NFC its show me grey out why? doesnt work?
NFC is not enabled yet on the AT&T version of this phone. Some developers have made progress in getting the phone to recognize the NFC chip, but no one has been able to enable full functionality of NFC.
Oh so i have to wait for next update version cyanogen mod for fix this problem? I hope so because need a lot nfc :s! thanks for quick reply u guys are great
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Right now, NFC working in CM7 is still quite a ways away... I have only succeeded in partial functionality with official Samsung firmware.
The problem is that the AOSP/CM7 Nfc.apk does NOT like our stock device's JNI libraries (crashfest) - but using the Nexus S JNI libs causes the behavior you describe.
Aosp? Ehm well im a noob lol i dont understand at all about technology especial telephone instead computer antway i try to learn as quick as i can :/

Learning
I hear you, man. After the last few years with iPhones, I am learning a ton since coming here.
AOSP is Android Open Source Project. It is often used to mean plain android without any 3rd party changes like HTC sense or Samsung TouchWiz.
Cyanogen builds their ROMs straight from AOSP. Other devs start with already modified versions. For example UnNamed and Serindipity are built off of the Samsung modified android that came on our phones.

Rule number one of Cyanogen Mod is do not ask for dates. I would say that applies here too. Even if the devs can get NFC to work it is very unlikely we will be able to use google wallet, which is the big draw for a lot of people.

I knew some of what you were talking about, but I am a little unclear about the link between AOSP and stock Android. They don't actually put out anything that is usable by average consumers, right? Their output is solely for the dev community?

Hello, I am a newbie to this whole rooting thing. I just had my phone rooted with UnNamed ROM v2.2.1 so far the phone has been really fast and smooth. Its a nice clean setup. The big question is, now what? What should be my next step? Nothing big since I`m still learning. Maybe a theme? I not sure. Thanks for any input. Have a great night.
Do whatever you feel like doing, or leave it as it is if it works for you. That's the beauty of Android, you always have choices. Enjoy your phone, it's a beast.

I just don't like thw TW launcher as much. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I wish it had more flexibility. TW 4.5 has some of those, but then it lacks some from the official TW3.

I like Samsung based over aosp based too. But development on both fronts helps make for an overall better experience for anyone who likes flashing and tinkering with there phone.
As far as tw launcher, it has gotten allot better, but no matter whether I run asop based or Samsung based I always seem to find my way to go launcher or adw.
Once ics is working well enough for me to keep it on my phone longer than a day or two, I'm going to spend some time checking out the nova launcher.

I partially agree. I don't really care about ICS, but I'll probably update to it when it comes out. I am perfectly happy with the setup I have now. I dont't understand why people are acting like they "need" it.
I also like AOSP and its simplicity, but I love the media format support provided by Samsung roms. Full 1080p wmv's @ 10mbps? Yes please. I don't care for Touchwiz launcher itself though.
And I can't live without allshare
I might be crazy but if a rom has it removed on install I will instantly flash another rom with it.

1.) Flashing ROMs doesn't mean one's device doesn't work. It simply means they want a change from stock/whatever they decide to change from.
2.) Flashing ROMs doesn't disable your device as a communication platform. AOSP based ROMs (With ICS, at least) have a better calendar, camera application, and are compatible with virtually every app you currently have now.
3.) Not trying to sound like a ****, but if you just want it to work and aren't concerned with flashing the ROM or anything, why are you on XDA Developers?

Has anyone tried this? If so, what are recommended ROMs?
If no one has done this, what ROMs are closest to what the S3 runs and would stand the greatest chance of working?
Thanks,

to be equally fair, i'm in the same boat. i had a captivate for a while, loved the gb roms i flashed constantly to find my favourite. bought an s2 and absolutely love the phone. i hard bricked my previous s2, i dont think i had the right kernel, something i did was for a non canadian version of the s2. after i sold that one i bought another brand new s2. the s3 was around for a little while at this point but my girlfriend has a galaxy nexus and her sister an s3 and i just dont like the way ics and jb look, feel and operate. it felt like switching from windows to a mac after using windows for years. i would go to close a window and the 'x' was in the upper left and not right like windows.
its a personal opinion, i'm sure in many ways firmwares past gb are better in many quantifiable ways, but i just dont like em. not to mention the stupid physical home button like some loser iphone. i love the 4 backlit buttons that samsung uses on many devices like the blu ray player i have. it's just awesome.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of android?
in closing, think of the amount of roms out there for the captivate which are based on froyo people still use. gb ics and even jb roms are available but many people still prefer the look and feel of froyo.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of

The reason is that iOS is designed for the iPhone hardware. Apple only has one phone, with a set hardware configuration. Android has to work with many different hardware configurations, so it uses generic drivers for everything. Newer end Android phones have virtually no lag as well. If you run the right rom on the S2 it won't lag either.
OK what rooms do you suggest for me that has no lag bear in mind please that I have the G model I don't care if it's going to be a GB ROM or ICS or JB as long as there is no lag at all also I read that android will never have no lags because of the ui rendering because it uses the main thread and doesn't use a secondary thread and it's set to normal priority while iOS sets priority to real time so is it true that android will never be bugless or not (I hope not because I really like an android phone more than an iPhone)

Actually, IOS is also "laggy" when you install some new IOS on the old device. My iPod Touch started to lag after I upgraded from IOS 2.0 to IOS 4.3, and battery life decreased dramatically.
OK I know that iOS lags when you install a new version on an older device berceuse I did it with my dad's old iPhone 3GS when iOS 5 came out but that's because the hardware it self can't stand it and if it's all hardware compatibility can you do some thing in android os so it can work better lag less make it work Better with the hardware

Apple has to make software for only a specific hardware, Thus their drivers, screen res. etc. they put is only for a specfiic hardware therefore reducing lag... android is expected to work on lots of phones, thus everything is approximate.. Also because android handles more complex tasks such as widgets, live wallpaper etc. Which use up much of the gpu, only little left for other tasks... while ios's gpu has nothing to render except a bunch of icons, so the gpu stays free and is ready for the next action..
Hope this cleared your doubts :highfive:

For iOS, the safe point is the dual core cortex A9 apple A5 chip for a reatively lag free experience even with the most demanding games 2013 titles+ and anyone who says the S2 wouldn't lag is a lier.
Such example is the iPad 2/Mini/4S
The safe point of android is a quad core a15 chip for a reatively lag free experience.
That's because android requires faster hardware to make up for the unoptimised generic drivers.
Such example is the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2013

Good point
I knos this is old but my old sensation never lagged , had many roms and stuff on it, also played lots of nova with it,
I got nexus 4 now Anyway
Also i see that iPhone 5s lags,
Even when it doesnt i guess sloe animations cover it ! Takes a year for animations to finish xD
Also iPhone screen res is extremely low so it doesnt need much power also ios has no features to use cpu xD
Anyway i don't know brefore sensation or desire hd but phones i saw after desire hd didnt lag, expect Samsung phones :S even s4 lagged, i saw s3 for test somewhere , SO FREAKING LIQUID SMOOTH lol
Also sometimes user faults make phone lag or bloat war
