HP touchpad hardware diagnostics on first boot - TouchPad General

My girlfriend just got a touchpad. This is what happened at first boot.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pdzbH1nKf9g
Anyone else know what this is or if I can reaccess it? I saw it on a boot thread on precentral but it has no replies and is rather old. I can no longer seem to boot to this. Brand new.
Trolling from my ATRIX 4G's XDA premium app, still on the crappiest carrier

that is the standard hardware testing and calibration menu for the TP, all of them have it, and it sometimes runs on BNIB touchpads on first power up.
if you want to access it again, fully power off, and i believe it was hold POWER, VOL-DOWN, HOME BUTTON
it doesnt work if you have moboot/cyanogen installed tho
also, youre right, you cant find it ANYWHERE on the webs thats bizarre
i actually found it my first time by accident, if the above combo deosnt work, try other button holds at boot

Three-finger salute works on v3.0.2, but after update to v3.0.4 seems gone. Is it still accessible?
P.S. Anybody else have a light sensor not work before updating?

That's remarkably strange.

[Q] Freezing HD2 after lock

I know there are hundreds of threads and articles posted about HD2s freezing with the lock screen but this issue seems different to me. My problem is that whenever I lock the phone the touch screen will freeze entirely. I thought a work around may be to install a different lock screen. After installing that I can get past the lock screen but the touch screen still is not responsive. I have no idea what to do. I already did a hard reset and it still does it. I would like to add that it is completely consistent. It happens every time without fail. In order to even use the phone I have to pull the battery and I get one use out of it before it locks and I have to pull the battery again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it..
Update: I flashed the original ROM to my phone and the freezing problem still exists.. I have no idea what to do at this point.
Update 2: Narrowed down the problem to being the physical "power/end/lock" button. If I slightly press it but not fully it will go to the honeycomb style menu with all the apps. If I press it fully the screen will go out like normal but then if I restore it, the entire screen is locked up. Nothing will work after that until I pull the battery.
I've directly linked the issue with the power button. I dont know why all of a sudden the power button would have a different function. The work around I found is while the phone is locked and the screen is off I can press the green button to unlock the phone and the touch screen will then function. If I use the power button it will remain frozen. Any ideas what happened?
Hello,
I got some bad news for you, this issue is actually related to the digitizer (hardware) not software. What i would recommend is called HTC for a repair and send it in, it is covered by warranty, hopefully you have warranty.
A lot of people are having this issue, no-one yet has been able to pinpoint the cause, but here is the link a thread with similar problem:

Thanks for the reply. I do not think I have a warranty on this phone considering I bought it privately. Ill talk to Tmo and HTC and see what I can do. Just a theory, I may be wrong. But I live in PA and its been getting below 20 here lately. I noticed today that my work around didnt work when I was outside working on my car. Then I went inside and used a blow dryer to heat up the phone and it started working again. The end button didn't function properly but I could unlock the phone with the green send button. Perhaps the cold weather is shorting out people's digitizers? I don't really know how they work so that's why i said its only a theory. I bought this phone in the spring and didnt have an issue until now when it started getting really cold.

[Video]Issue TouchScreen

Looks the video and comment, or give me a fix:
I'm having a similar issue - only difference is that I'm on AT&T. My power button gets extremely hot, almost hot enough to burn your finger, and the screen and capac. buttons do not respond to touch AT ALL.... I've restored my pds partition backup, completely wiped and reflashed sbf (2.3.6) restored every NAND backup I have.... nothing... Started on Saturday morning - no rhyme or reason... just POOF. the volume buttons and power button still work (although its very hot) and it boots just fine.... I'm at a loss for ideas.
[edit] this is my original Atrix 4G that I got on pre-release day... never had any issues before, never had to replace it... until now, unless anyone has some ideas that will fix this...
Bump for replies.... Any ideas here guys? I've taken my atrix completely apart since my last post... there are no broken connections or any circuits that appear "burnt" or anything like that.... I'm really puzzled...
anyone have *any* ideas at all here?
Now using Epsilon5 Rom i have no bug, calibrating in Aroma installer.
I'm still searching for answers to my issue.... I'm glad you got yours fixed.... I'm seriously confused with mine...

From sleep to lockscreen LCD blank problem, any solution?

Hello.
When I leave my phone in sleep mode (screen locked and light off) and try to wake with On/Off button, sometimes I get a black screen with a faintly image. The touchscreen works and all the buttons, and if you click 2 times On/Off button - the image appears all ok. I tried to flash another stock ROM - all the same. Then I`ve unlocked the bootloader, rooted the phone and even did the S-off with wire trick (1.53 Hboot). Then I`ve tried 3-4 custom ROMs with 6-7 different kernels, from stock to custom, but all the same. Yes, I`ve updated the firmware file, also, but with no difference.
Well, I see that this problem is not so usual, but I couldn`t find any real solution. Did anyone have this kind of problem and solved it? Since I got this phone from another country - official warranty is out of the question, I need a DIY solution.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
THX in advance!!!
I would have to say it looks like the light for your screen is dying, I had my screen replaced once, my screen would flicker from very dark to very bright

hmmmm, but when I get the OK image - it doesn`t flicker or go from dark to bright, it only has trouble to "wake up from sleep mode". even when i relock the screen quickly and don`t leave it unused for 2-3 minutes, the screen works OK every time....it looks like a software problem, but still I didn`t manage to fix it with all the ROMs/kernels/firmwares I`ve flashed....

Thinking about how to troubleshoot if hardware or software. When in sleep mode, instead of using the power button, I would have the phone plugged into a computer and use the " adb reboot " command to reboot the phone without touching the phone a few times and see if it lights up correctly. The first thing you should see is the boot screen, and if it works every time, then you do have an issue with your firmware. If you don't see that boot screen first every time, then as much as it sucks, I would guess there is a hardware issue.
Good luck, but this is the easiest way I know of to help determine what the issue likely is.
Minor update here, the first thing (at least on mine) that I see is the lock screen for just a quick second or two, then it quickly goes into the boot sequence. This is important as in "sleep" the ROM is running, so if the first thing you see is the boot sequence every time, and not the lock screen, then it points more to a software problem than a hardware issue. CM9 had an issue for the epic4g where you had to turn it off and on sometimes to get the keyboard to light. They found the issue in the firmware causing it.
Just wanted to make this as accurate as possible.
Wow so I am not the only person with this problem. The EVO 3D that I have was replacement phone that was given to me from Sprint from the first EVO 3D that I had which had issues with the digitizer. I received the replacement phone this past Tuesday and it worked fine for two days. It was not rooted and I did install the ICS update. On Friday morning I took it off the charger and went to work, while in the break room the screen suddenly went black and I could not get the phone to display anything after that. The Android function buttons at the bottom will light up but the screen wont, the phone also gets hot even with it powered off.
Long story short, I took it back to the Sprint store where they ordered me yet another replacement EVO 3D. Has anyone had to go through 3 EVO 3Ds or more?

Excellent thinking, I didn't think in that direction. I'll try this tomorow, since I'm not at home. My personal oppinion that it's a software problem but if I did all the above - what did I miss? If I flashed the firmware, ROM and kernel, what else is left untouched that could affect the LCD? Could anyone suggest a good kernel? Or can I downgrade the firmware, since no one had such a problem with GB?
just to inform all - I tried all soft solutions, but all the samo. finaly - I replaced the LCD and everything is OK.

Power Button not working?

My Samsung Galaxy S2 (AT&T) is rooted, and I am running a custom ROM. It worked great for about 7 months, but yesterday my phone would randomly reboot when I would press my power button. I thought it was either the custom ROM or my power button was stuck so I installed a new custom ROM to see if that was the problem was software related. After I installed the new ROM the power button worked great, but this morning my phone would only unlock when I plugged it into the AC or when someone called me (The power button is not unlocking/locking the phone). I've tried to boot into Recovery, but I need the power button to reinstall a ROM and it's not working there either. I've done some research and one guy said it may have overheated and to let it sit without the battery for a few hours so this is what I'm doing now. However, I think I've come up with the conclusion that my power button is broken, and if this is the case I could use some help on how to fix it because I'm not skilled with phone hardware. Any help is appreciated, and if I find anything else that helps then I'll be sure to post back that my problem is fixed and what I did to fix it.
The ROM I'm running now is SlimBean for S2 (AT&T)
Has no one else had this problem? Does anyone have any fixes or suggestions?
Lots I'm sure. I remember seeing at least two other threads like this recently. U can get into download mode and flash without a power button if I'm not mistaken. Also u could use mobile odin pro to flash back to stock. I mean if your point is to try and find out if it's a hardware problem or q software problem. If you already know it's the hardware I would try and fix it yourself or get a warranty replacement.

Thanks for the reply. You can flash without a power button in CWM Touch, but Slimbean only has CWM. I can't flash Touch without a power button. Kind of a crappy situation. lol
UPDATE:
I just tried using the Odin method in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659), and now I'm stuck in a bootloop on the AT&T logo. I can get into 3e Recovery, but once again without a power button I can't do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset so I'm just stuck at this point. Any more suggestions?
You could have downloaded an app from the market called quick boot and booted into recovery mode. My daughters phone is doing the exact same thing. Haven't got a chance to look at it. I have found out that the power button is different from the international version. Would have been an easy fix if they were the same. Her's is less than a year old so I may send it in to Samsung for repair. The button looks like its modular and soldered to the board instead of being soldered to the board via a flat flex cable. I'm going to updated my post on the subject once I get some facts.

I could boot into recovery (CWM), but it didn't do me any good because my power button wasn't working so I couldn't select an option. An update after you get facts would be nice though. Thank you.

I was experiencing the exact same problem! At firstly my power button was so sensitive that it turned out to be a 'touch button' instead of pressed button. It always auto directed to power button menu. Until yesterday it decided to die on me. Thank God I installed AOKP rom which has the option to wake the screen with volume wake option.
However to answer your question (i ran into the same problem that I stuck in AT&T ICS boot logo), it's stuck because the data/cache needed to be wiped before it could freshly boot up. This is what I did:
1) Get into the download mode (with battery out/in, hold 2 volume buttons and plug into the usb)
2) Get Odin (I figured out you already have it)
3) Download a siyah kernel which version must be above 3 in order to have the touch kernel (nonswap or micswap in whatever you can find from the internet). Make sure you download the kernel in a TAR format. Otherwise ODIN wont work with it.
4) Flash the siyah kernel through Odin under PDA option
5) Now, unplug your usb and insert your battery. Hold on to both volume buttons again and all hail to auto bootup function in our phone. You will manage to get into siyah recovery
6) Reflash/restore any rom you want that has SIYAH's support
Hope this helps. Right now, Im searching for one working screen lock widget without having the screen on/off within seconds. It's annoying!
its a hardware problem.you can get it fixed from a local repair shop spending $10.

Just a quick update. I'll be talking it to a shop Monday to see if someone else can find the problem internally. In the meantime I've installed Quick Boot to restart/recovery/etc, ExTweaks to enable slide to wake (Volume wake didn't work all the time. This is much better.), and a Screen Lock Widget. I can finally use my phone again, but I still want this button fixed. lol

I spoke to Josh from mobile tech videos since my wife's i777 power button just took a Shiite. He said he can do it for $35. I fully trust his work as he fixed my old cappy long ago and I have spoken to him on a few occasions on the phone just to be android stuff.
I have been at work all week so I haven't even been able to see if my wife's phone is a software issue or hardware. But it can only be turned on (the screen) by plugging it into a charger. So I am following this thread so tomorrow or soon I hope to check out her phone or send it to Josh.

$35 is well worth this annoyance. I'm going to see what my local shop will charge; if he charges around the same price and I don't have to ship it then I will gladly take it there. That sounds like the same problem I was having so it's probably hardware, but you can flash another ROM to see if that fixes it. Please post back with any further information; this problem seems to be all over with no one giving much advice/tips. Good luck!

Yup. Unsure what causes it and how I got it back alive. Was thinking perhaps the board problem? Have you guys had some severe fall or water damage done to your phone before? Just asking
Sent from SGS2 i777.. be prepared for typo.
Mine was like that too, when i pressed it, it would bring the power menu or restart the phone as if i left it pressed some seconds, but now it works fine. Im using latest AOKP by task. Really weird.
Any way, while i was with the problem, i was using the slidetowake feature from Siyah, volume wake and an that maps long press search button to unlock, and i don't even use the power button anymore. Its more confortable to me to slide a finger across the screen, and to long press the search button to lock it.

That's interesting. I have not dropped my phone, and it has never gotten anything more than a little rain on the screen. I took it to a cell phone shop and he said that the water damage indicator inside the phone had turned pink which means that it thinks there was water damage, but there was no corrosion on the board or any other indicators of water damage. I don't know what could have turned that pink though...

Phone on/off button causing phone to reboot

Everytime I go to use the on/of button for anything, I barely press it and sometimes it doesn't work, other times I quickly press it and it thinks I held it for the menu to come up to reboot or power down. But most of the time... It just reboots on its own if I use the switch. Any way to by pass it? The switch itself I think is just super sensitive, I barely have to even touch it. I've taken phone apart and cleaned around the switch. I'm trying to hold out till the Galaxy S 4 comes out... Hopefully soon!!

Although I can't offer a fix... The galaxy s4 goes for preorder for at&t on the 16th of this month for $250 I believe. And T-Mobile is releasing it for $99 on may 1. I think that is all that is currently known about any galaxy s4 release dates. Hope I kinda helped in any roundabout way.
Galaxy S3 T999 rooted and flashed more than daily.
Brand new off contract nexus 4. 250 dollars. If you can deal with the limited internal sd card space and don't have to have your entire music collection with you at all times like some people here lol.
Free Apps to Help
I have the same issue, can't touch the power button. I smack the button a few times to get it to behave. I have installed the following two free apps so I do not have to touch the power button again.
Auto Screen On.
Button Savior(Root)
I am not allowed to post links to the apps, but they can both be found on Google Play.
You have to have root and you have to read the instructions for each app.:good:
Thanks to everyone, I am rooted and running CM9, so that shouldn't be an issue and I'll check into those apps. Just need to make til I can upgrade to the GS4. Thanks for the dates cuz now I have an idea of how long and I'll go order it that day. If that's the preorder, then when is the release date I wonder?

I think it's absolutely fascinating how we both seemed to develop the problem at the same time. Could be that many others will soon suffer the same problem. Although I'm definitely going to look into those apps now, I found a temporary fix myself (and it could just be coincidental anyway). I pulled the battery out, pressed my power button repeatedly about 100 times, and now I'm able to use the power button again without it sticking and causing this problem.
The weird part is, that physically, the external button wasn't stuck at all. I could still click the button as many times as I wanted even while "stuck" symptoms appeared on my phone, like the power menu coming up, or a reboot. My guess is that the hardware problem lies somewhere between the physical button and the electronic circuitry within, but I haven't actually stripped down the phone and looked inside. But perhaps jamming the button a hundred times helped decrease the chance of the internal "signal relayer" getting stuck.
I had a similar issue with some keys on my laptop after a little kid played with it and got my keys messed up. Outside button was ok, something beyond that was not (so pressing "s" once would lead to 40 s's appearing on my document). Repeatedly pressing ended up helping out quite a lot.
Nonetheless, this may end up being a very useful thread for others later on.
My GF i777 was having the same issue reported here. I just sent it into mobiletechvideos.com and had the power button on the mother board replaced for 40-50 bucks and it works perfectly now. I would suggest using them if you want to keep your i777 working

I am having this same problem. I started a different thread a few days ago about power button issues that at the time I attributed to the recent software update. But it was apparently just very coincidental, and after some tinkering I was able to get the button working using similar methods described in this thread already. After I got it working again, I rooted and successfully installed AOKP 4.2.2, but now when I manage to get the power button to send a signal it pulls up the shut down options screen and then restarts about ten seconds after that. I assume it is still the same hardware issue, but since the restarts only began occurring after flashing the custom rom I can't entirely rule out the possibility that it is some how related.

If you flash back to stock and you still have the button problem, then it is almost certainly hardware. Did you do that yet?
I actually just flashed AOKP a few days ago. Instead of using one of the applications above, which either drained my battery (auto screen on) or wasn't entirely convenient (button savior), I've got a different set up.
In rom control, activate "volume rocker to wake." It's not a hundred percent, oddly, but it gets the job done. This will help with screen on.
For screen off and power menu, I added a navbar with the second smallest height (30 dpi?), with the power button on it. Now I permanently have a the ability to turn off my screen, from whatever I'm doing, with just one click. Long pressing it gets you the power menu.
As a side note, I added screenshot to the power menu so I wouldn't have to hold my power button for that either. But no, I haven't tried using the nav bar power button with volume down for screenshot, because I'm an idiot and just thought of that now.

I haven't had the opportunity to do that yet. The restart issues may have begun when I flashed the Siyah 4.3.3 kernel before installing the rom, but I probably won't have the chance to tinker with it until the weekend.
Edit: I have also noticed that I can only reliably use the volume buttons to wake my phone up from sleep when it is plugged in.
Weird, I just started getting this problem today, too. Kinda weird how this all happened to us in the same month
Add me to the list of those whose power button suddenly and mysteriously died. Opened up an email Sunday 4/14, the phone rebooted on its own, and when it restarted the power button no longer worked. My suspicious is it's somehow software/rom related. I'm running Task's AOKP 4.2.2 (4.1.13), for what its worth. If everyone with the issue posts their experience maybe we can figure out what's going on...
Mine started doing the same back in March. Pressing the power button would cause it to reboot and sometimes bring up the power menu, as if I was long pressing it. Then the power button didn't want to work at all, sometimes. I tried everything I could think of, even reverting back to stock, but the problem persisted. Then I finally found that pulling the battery and pressing the power button a few times fixed the problem, for a while anyways. If I don't do it every 2-3 days, it starts happening again. I've actually seen something similar happen with notebooks before. A charge manages to build in the motherboard and the system won't power on. Removing the power supply, pulling the battery, and holding the power button for 30 seconds to allow the charge to dissipate actually fixed the notebooks. That's where I got the idea to do it with my phone. Just wish I didn't have to do it every couple days.
My power button stopped working a couple of days ago and I tried this solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193057&page=2 post #17. Just take the phone apart, spray the power button with the electrical cleaner, and continuously pushing the button for a while (2 or 3 min). Keep the button wet while pushing it. Let it dry, put the phone back together, and start it back up. You should be able to tell whether it worked because when you put the battery back in it will not immediately start back up.
