Hello, Out of desperation for a quick answer as I find many on 2.3.5 or situations that aren't the same as mine, I tried flashing MIUI and it failed. I made a backup prior but then it failed .. I tried it a few times and so I decided to reboot device.. I am now stuck.. I rooted my wifes phone right after she got it about a year or so ago and so It's using the recovery that you boot into while running the phone. I"ve never been able to get to recovery unless I open the app "System Recovery". I click install recovery.. then boot recovery.. I don't even know what it's called it's been so long.
Anyway, Now I can't even do anything. As soon as I plug the phone in it sits at the dual core logo and does nothing. I can get to fastboot but have no idea what to try. My battery is probably not charging and I"m screwed on how to charge it to as it doesn't seem to power off and charge once plugged in. I know she was on 2.3.4 last time I looked and it failed everytime she tried to update. She uses her phone for her business hence my desperation to fix quickly. I've been clicking links frantically but can't seem to find a clear cut solution as I'm just not able to get into recovery. Thanks for any help!!!

I've never heard of a "system recovery" app. To get into the custom recovery just press and hold volume + power until fastboot appears. Press down until you see android recovery. Press up to enter it. Then restore your backup. You can do all of this with a dead battery or no battery as long as it's plugged it. What recovery are you using?
Reading it again looks like bootstrap?? That's not a real recovery, it's almost useless. You can't install ROMs like MIUI with it. You have to unlock your bootloader and use a custom recovery to do that! If you want to restore without losing data you'll want to SBF back to stock.

Thanks for the reply. When I get to android recovery I get the error in the title. It just sits there. I guess bootloader is what it is. I can't even get into recovery and that is my issue. It just says failed to boot 2. This photon is garbage imo. I've had the EVO now the EVO LTE and both were so simple but this one just confuses the hell out of me. I'm a flashaholic on my evos but I rarely attempt anything on the wife's as it seems way more complicated. I'm sure its not and if it was my phone I'd have more patience but the wife hates me at the moment so I'm desperate lol. Any other solutions besides boot into recovery cause that just isn't working...I was able to get into recovery when it was working but now it goes to the error and sits on the logo.

nah man! the photon is a great device. it's nearly impossible to brick it. which i love. you don't have a custom recovery. that's why you get an error. you're just seeing the stock recovery. which isn't a recovery, it's just made to factory reset. pressing volume up + down will allow you to see the recovery without the error. you need to SBF if you want to get the system back. that is the BEST solution if you are on 2.3.4. once you do that. you can unlock the bootloader if you want. but that wipes all your data. so backing up would be necessary. this is the same all devices. INCLUDING THE EVO. if you are locked forever and on 2.3.5 you need to do some work arounds as there's no sbf available.
http://www.motosunfire.com/sbf-restore-photon/
BOOTSTRAP IS NOT A REAL RECOVERY. YOU CANNOT FLASH UNLOCKED ROMS THROUGH IT. KEEP THAT IN MIND!

You guys are saviours! This fixed me right up. Now to root properly. I always thought she was rooted as she had root access and what looked to me like an Amonra recovery. The full root process sounds a little more in depth than the EVO but I'm sure ill figure it out. Thanks again for all your help!
So can you guys recommend a Rom? I hate the motoblur and was leaning towards miui since I've ran it before but am open to suggestions.

U r wellcome first if u want a new rom u should unlock ur bootloader and install a reall recovery not the bootstrap
U can also see a qbking channel for unlocking photon bootloader then the recovery
If u find any difficulty just ask

as mentioned above if you're on 2.3.5. you cannot unlock your bootloader. it's permanently locked! that phone will most likely never see a true ROM. like CM, MIUI, AOKP, etc. no way around this whatsoever. sorry my friend.
again, don't attempt to flash any ROMs through bootstrap except stock locked ROMs.
if you're on 2.3.4 you should try out CM or AOKP or PA!!! unlocking is easy.
I'm unlocked and ready to roll! I was always on 2.3.4 so thank god that ota always failed I think I'm gonna give a look at that PA rom you mentioned if I can find what PA stands for lol. I've tried CM on my evo's and AOKP was still a bit buggy and my wife needs her phone to work on almost every function (camcorder not so much..) Bluetooth is huge! I think MIUI is goin up first she likes the look of that but what does PA stand for? . Thanks again for all your help! Thanks button hit for all!!

Gonna give Paranoid a go.. I flashed MIUI 5 times and it just hangs on the bootanimation. Never did get to the rom. Hopefully I have better results with aokp and paranoid. I realized that's what it was right after posting but thanks again!
So my phone is hanging at the "HTC" screen after a forced push today.

Then I went into (TWRP) recovery and when I tried to wipe cache I saw this:
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
E:Unable to mount internal storage.
Formatting Cache using make_ext4fs...
Done.
Updating partition details...
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
E:Unable to mount internal storage.
So it might have worked, but it's still hanging. Similar errors for Dalvik-Cache. Is this maybe related to whatever push they did that is hanging my phone?
If I need to load a new image I'd like a stock one for now but keeping TWRP. But when I try to use TWRP to mount the data I can only get to my SD card and not the internal storage and I don't want to lose the photos and whatnot that are on there. Help please?!
TWRP was built around the ICS firmware and mountpoints. Will either need to update to OTA firmware or use amon ra 3.15

Thank you so much; I put AmonRa back on and was able to mount the USB drive and get my pictures off.
I also did a format data / factory reset (from AmonRa not HBOOT) and it's still stuck at "HTC". Does that mean I need to relock and run the RRU?

Nah need to reflash boot.img from your nandroid backup. Easiest way.

Verizon pushed an update this morning and my device is now stuck on the HTC screen. My nandroid backup didn't actually work because it run from TWRP which didn't work with the file system (as you pointed out). I just want to get my phone working again with an HTC stock ROM.
Download the 3.14.605.12 ruu and double check md5 and go from there.

TBH, I would flash a custom recovery and flash a rom just so you don't get the peskies for the OTA.
Got unlocked, s-off, and rooted...cant mount /cache
So I got my replacement rezound yesterday.
Today I have gotten the bootloader unlocked, rooted, s-off... I screwed it up last night and had to run an RUU so now my phone is running:
4.03
sense 3.6
3.14.605.12 71ord
1.22.10.0421r, 1.22.10.10.042r
When I go to recovery and attempt to install Tron 2.0 I get an error at the end that says "cannot mount '/cache'". It appears to install properly except for that error. When I reboot it bootloops, and have to go back to recovery and restore.
I don't know what to do next to fix this any help would be great! I think I will try to update twrp next because i flashed the one that comes with hasoons tool kit.
hi
i have a problem like this

This is your issue... "emmc" is the internal storage where all your partitions are (/system, /data, /cache, etc)... Your internal 16GB storage chip has reached the end of it's life, a common Rezound issue of late. Sorry, there is nothing you can do, you might be able to get it working in the short term, but the chances this will fix itself or not just continue to get worse are slim to none. Time for a new device unfortunately.

I don't believe this is true. I recall issue with newer ROMs such a CM causing this. @alishadlou Try going back to an older ROM like ecliptic sense before you throw it in the trash.

Except if you read the post I was referring to, the user in question is S-Off, had tried three different RUU's, and different ROMs and recoveries without success... I stand by my initial evaluation, bad emmc, it is quite common in Rezounds recently for some reason.

Yes I read and had pretty much the same issues which were resolved by an even older ROM. I had to flash twice for it to stick. Just throwing it out there so not everyone thinks their phone is dead before it really is.

Gotcha... It is always possible, I just know this seems to be common among Rezounds over the last 6 months or so, even bone stock ones, I don't know if it's a hardware version, or a specific internal storage chipset, or what... but there has been a much higher than "normal" failure rate among Rezounds recently... And yet my 5 year old Aria is still going strong, minus the occasional random reboot.
Ok so I am franticaly running around trying to fix my phone, if there is another thread on this I do appologize. I found my teather cord and decided to root my phone today. Im pretty familiar with the rooting of HTC phones, so needless to say I did the HTCdev option for unlocking bootloader, and installed the TWRP recovery system. I just a little ancious and wanted a new, fresh and clean look for my phone. So after searching HTCevohacks.com, I found the AVATAR rom. I downloaded the approtate file and the GApps that it said to do, booted into recovery and wiped my phone like it said and flashed the new rom onto my phone. I added the second file to the flash for GApps and robooted my phone. Loads the HTC screen, then black screen.... I have tried 2 other roms, UR EVO and Jelly Bam. I want to use the jelly bam. I liked the review and the style of it. Sad part is my phone is now a brick and it cant figure out how to fix it. I believe my issue was that I didnt read the comments on the First rom saying that a guy forgot to make a backup image. Is there any thing i can do to fix why it is not loading the new roms or is it just a very expensive paper weight?
Its not bricked. You have to flash the kernel seperate cause your S-ON.

Ok, I skimmed through the terminology and found that it says 1.15 requires to flash the kernal seprate. I have 2.09. Will that fix mine aswell? And if so, how do I do it seprate? It says the guide tells you how to but I cant seem to find it
EDIT: I googled the process and it requires me to download an app from the market, i cant do this my phone wont start into any kind of rom/kerel

I bought a phone from gumtree and it was rooted. I prefer it not to be rooted so i deleted the root and noticed the phone had a recovery system. So it went to that when i rebooted the phone. I then accidently wiped the data of the phone and everything. All i have access to is the recovery system and the bootloader. So basically my phone has no OS installed. Also in the bootloader i can see that it says *TAMPERED*, because the guy rooted it, and *UNLOCKED*, meaning the bootloader is unlocked anything is possible. However my S-On, security is on. I learnt how to switch from UNLOCKED TO RELOCKED.
Now, I downloaded the source codes for the phone from HTCDEV, I got the HTC ONE, T-Mobile, DE Version, 1.29.111.16 which is the one for me. I am stuck and i dont know what to do next. I was wondering if anyone could help me but firstly, i would like to know if i can go into a T-Mobile shop and they could help me.
If you reply check google or youtube, try what they did. Trust me unless their phone is bricked, they are in a better situation than me. The videos and tutorial show people with an rooted OS changing to a stock OS (original out of the box OS). The point is i have No OS installed so thats really annoying.
Thank You

Unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone so any internal data I believe isn't there anymore. Reboot back to fastboot and try reflashing the recovery. Also HBOOT info would probably help. Just keep calm. It'll be okay.

if this was my phone i would be a lot calmer, but this is her only phone, and she uses it for business. the samsung rooting is a million times easier, and without a single problem. i have done dozens of them, and NEVER had any issues. i don't understand why htc makes you do the bootloaded, which is a monster process all to its own, and then puts you through so many trials and tribulations to complete the root. when i root a samsung, all the information is still thereso i assumed it would be the same on any android device. as you can imagine, i am bugging to lose her all her info.
ok, so i reflashed recovery using the cmd prompt, and it flashed ok. then i loaded supersu. no problem. but then when i try to load the stock htc rom, it says it can't find md5, and reloads into a white screen with green htc on it. that's it. it goes no further. anything you can tell me to help get this thing up and running?

i think it was. and yes, it was upgraded today. i spent quite a while unlocking the bootloader. that took forever. then i tried to root it. but had a problem right in the middle of that. when i went to mount the int sd card, it said nothing was there. then it told me i needed a decrypt password. so i was told to wipe everything. so i did. then reloaded twrp and supersu. that is where i am now. man, i just want to get this thing up and running again, no matter what rom or anything else. this is not my phone, and she uses it for business. she needs it as soon as possible, and i know so very little about htc.

so the recovery i have won't work? do you have a link for this modified twrp? and is it a zip file, because i can flash zip files, but image files don't even show up.

Either of the twrps listed in this thread should work. Fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img. personally I would rename the recovery to either twrp or recovery and make sure it is in the same folder as the fastboot files. Or if you are s-off put in a zip fodder after renaming to recovery.img

ok, i got them. i'll go give it a shot. i really appreciate all the help, i'll hit your thanks bar many times.
update: i hit your thanks bar for every post you made in this thread. thanks again. hope it all works.
man, i can't believe i went through all the things i went through, and i am right back in the same boat i was this afternoon. i renamed and flashed the custom recovery. i then flashed the rom, and when it looked like it was doing everything right, and starting to load the rom, it took me right back to the prompt "Decrypt Storage". type password to decrypt storage.
30 attempts remain before device data is deleted.
how can i get past this thing? i wiped everything there was to wipe on this phone.

Reflash recovery again. Or try a different one from captains thread.

@Captain_Throwback, you got any insight for this particular situation?

i got so mad about the decrypt thing popping back up, that i went into wipe and did a full "format data". now the decrypt message is gone, but the phone will not recognize the internal sd card. the only place it shows up is in advanced wipe area, and i can wipe it individually, but in the other areas of the phone, it doesn't show up. for instannce, if i try to usb mount, there is no internal card, so it will not show anything. so how do i get this internal sd card back? i can't flash anything right now because it isn't recognized.
two other questions, should the int sd card be formatted in fat32 or exfat? and is the rom you gave me odexed or deodexed?
UPDATE: so i finally decided to use the root folder to flash the older twrp, and it worked. then i was able to see the internal folder again. so i tried to reload the supersu, and rom you suggested, but when it loaded up, it took me right back to the "decrypt storage" message. so i tried to reload the newer twrp, you suggested, and the int sd card is not recognized again. so i am guessing i have a lot of miss matched software on this phone, and maybe that is the reason i am getting this message. any idea how to determine exactly which ones are out of place? in the mean time, i googled the decrypt storage message, and many people have been through this also, but i haven't seen a fix. so i will go back to your friends site, and try the other twrp for now.
UPDATE2: i just decided to relock the bootloader, and ruu it back to original. i hope this works. i was able to relock the bootloader, and i am in the middle of ruu'ing it now.
UPDATE3: yeah, i've got it back up. so glad to get this thing running again. i wish i had of understood what you meant by ruu before, i would have saved myself a lot of grief.
the fact that, while setting things up for the first time, this phone will not let you skip accounts, and just get into your phone is crap. you should be able to set the accounts up at your whim. and even if you try to set a new account up with htc, the code the phone gives you, will not work on the htc site. even if you keep generating a new code on the phone, the site will not take it. what the hell is that? this entire experience with this phone makes me appreciate having a samsung much, much, much more than ever before. htc needs to get their head out of their ass, and stop making everything so difficult.
Based on a quick read on this thread, the problem appears to have been an incomplete update to the new layout. The HBOOT got updated, but the image doesn't appear to have been flushed again to update the data and system partitions fully, and then the ROM booted to ensure everything was initialized properly. That would be the way to fix it going forward.
Also, you can skip through all of the account setup stuff in the ROM - I'm not sure what you mean about that .
