On my previous phone Samsung Vibrant i used to receive network message about balance after every call and sent messages. Do you guys have any idea why i dont receive such messages with my photon? Is this because of the photon designed for 4G and i must wait for new ROM?
That generally occurs on prepaid networks only, where normally you need to be more concerned with usage.

Huh? I have never gotten such a message on any phone that I have used. And I have been on AT&T and Verizon with limited txt messaging and limited minute plans.
My guess would be those messages are obsolete and have been turned off because everyone can check their balence/stats via text massage or Sprint's website. No real need for messages after every call anymore since you can now check anytime, rather than having to end a call to see stats.
In our country carriers provide both service. Send a message to check your balance and pop-up window about usage after every call and msg. For ex. my samsung vibrant which was t-mobile`s phone supported that services.
I have never received any notifications on any mobile device like that.. Granted ive only had Sprint, but still. If you want to easily check your minutes/text/data usages just dial *4 on your Sprint phone and it will play you back how many minutes, texts, and kbs of data you have used/have left, you can even get it to send it all to your phone in a text message after.
Well my only guess would be since you are in a different country you carrier doesn't support this feature on the Photon.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Yessss, i`m in different country, so i`m not using any of US carriers
Then I would check with your carrier.

I have the same problem and this is one of the most common problems with unlocked Atrix 4g. I did search for answers but there is no solution yet as far as I know. According to Motorola support, this problem might be fixed in the next o/s upgrade.
I'm on Fido...but this problem extends to Rogers as well. Just call your provider and ask them to deactivate "name display" You will still have caller ID and you can reactivate it once a fix is out.
Also when you call, sometimes they with try to change your package...just cut them off and say "I know that it can be deactivated without changing my plan, I have researched this"

You are the BEST! I just called Rogers and had them disable "Name Display" on my account (called Tech support and the agent didn't ask me about changing my plan). Now, I get Caller ID from Bell customers working. Yeah!!!
No problem...just give me a thanks on my post! I've never gotten one before..heheheh

hello Guys,
This may be a simple question I just don't have the simple answer too
I sell my HTC hd2 and wondering to get something new, so I get Motorola photon 4g w/o plan, yesterday it arrives directly from motorola.store for $549
I`m leaving far away from USA, our country is Azerbaijan, Baku. it is 3000m. away from Turkey.
anyway, photon 4g came with his sprint Sim card (with ICC ID code on it)
I took it out and installed our network card, i tried 3 different sim card from different networks, but i can not receive or make any calls, on screen network is in range, but it can not register in network completely,
keep showing:
"contacting Network"
then:
Hands Free Activation
"Your activation could not be completed"
well we do not have here Sprint or AT&T and etc. so i can not call anybody to ask anything
is the tel is block or ? how can i use it with my network sim-cards?
thanks to all in advance, i`m new to motorola.
Call Sprint, there should be a sticker giving you the number on the phone when you buy it. If I answered what you were asking...

Interested in this as well as I may be on the same boat pretty soon.
If you bought it off-contract, I don't see why you'd need a Sprint account...

sorry did not had internet...
anyway i did not get any reply from sprint only massage:
Dear Sprint Customer,
Thank you for your inquiry. I am thinking that if you bought a new Motorola Photon you would have needed to activate the phone in the US before you left on your trip. Phones will not activate internationally. I do apologize.
Thank you,
Patty (rd756540)
after that i get in "mobile networks" then "Network Mode" in phone
"Sprint only"
"Any CDMA"
"Any GSM/UMTS"
"Automatic"
well i put on automatic, then network came
after that i gone to "Select Network"
"GSM only - Saves Battery"
"UMTS Only - Better performance"
"Automatic - Default'
(What is i this???
Anyway I Choose automatic - as i said network came and phone is working, but you need to do it after each restart of phone.
Also it also working like in roaming mode, i mean phone showing everything like in roaming.
USSD codes are not working at all
so it is still problem.. i do not know really what to do , any suggestions?
is it any way to install new rom with completely "sprint" things off the phone?
hey guys my galaxy s2 is currently on shostock2
and the imei is there and everything i get like 2 bars as service but it says emergency call only and i tryed GS11_repair and hc-ktool
i just cant figure out why i get no service and its unlocked i have a tmobile sim card in it but i cant make calls or nothing everything else works fine except it wont connect to tmobiles mobile network i think in network operators tmobile doesnt even show up only at&t
if some one can help me resolve this issue it would be greatly appreciated thanks you
Go under mobile networks and do a carrier search and see if T-Mobile pops up. Are you in a good coverage area? If it says emergency only then you're probably connected to AT&T towers (which shows your radio works, so that's not the issue)
settings -> more (under wireless and network) -> mobile networks -> Network operators -> scan for networks
I did man only at&t shows up

Yeah, that just sounds like you're having crappy T-mo coverage. You could try flashing a different modem.
I just did I get bars but its still in emergency call only
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Even though you have bars, doesn't guarantee that you are on the T-Mobile network. You can also get bars on other networks if T-Mobile isn't available. This has happened to me before when I drove off in the mountains, and only AT&T was available (I'm on T-Mobile), and I got 4 bars, but it still said "Emergency Calls Only" because I was on the wrong operator.
the problem with my device I never get more than 3 bars

Hey. Yani. Did you solve your problem?
Because I have same issue as you have.
I heard from one of my friend that upgrading gingerbread to ICS might work, so I did that as well. but still the same.
And just to let people know, I am not in the crappy tmboile coverage area. In my other phone, I get five full bar reception with same tmobile sim card.
Any ideas?????
Different phones have different radios, get different amounts of service.
Unless your 'other' phone is another i777, theres nothing to compare.
does it really matter how good of service you get when you only get edge?
APN settings
Did you input the APN settings for T-Mobile? I unlocked mine and run it on Straight-Talk and I had to manually input the APN setting to get it to make and receive calls. Just speaking from my personal experience I would choose Straight-Talk over T-Mobile. You still get the same service as AT&T but its only $45 a month for unlimited everything including data. Just check your APN settings man. Make sure your T-Mobile one is selected if you've already input everything.

Yeah. I tried that and getting a little bit better service. I will try it on Monday because at work see if it is better.
If it doesn't, I guess I have to sell this phone, since I tried almost everything I could.
Thanks for letting me know about Straight-Talk, but I have to stay on T-Mobile. I had a deal with T-Mobile for $100 unlimited txt and data for 4 lines. So I can't switch over for 2 yrs....
anyway, thnx for the advice and will update on Monday night.
Any Resolution?

Hey shpchunjae, did you ever get this figured out? I'm fighting the same problem now (trying to get my i777 to connect to the T-Mobile network) and I'm not getting anything - voice, text, or data. The SIM card works in another T-Mobile phone, so that's not the issue.
Thanks!
I have the AT&T Galaxy Mega i527 I got the phone a little over a month ago and had it unlocked and running on T Mobile perfectly well a few days ago it stopped working so after calling Samsung and making a few more calls I'm being told im Blacklisted, so after paying The Unlock Pro's to fix this im getting full Data at over 10MBPS at all time and as far as I can tell my Text work but Calling Out/Receiving Calls has major issues! when it does(rarely does) call out it will take forever to start ringing and most of the time it will drop the call..please help!!

If your getting full data you can use various apps to make and receive calls and text like mo+ or grooveip to name a few. I believe you need a google number to use the aforementioned. There are some that provide a number for you like talkatone.

Those will all stop working as of mid-May. Google will be disabling external VoIP functions then.
Another alternative is skype. I pay 2.99 a month for unlimited calling in the US, you can also receive calls from landlines through skype. I think that service is like $7 a month. Hopefully this will help with your problem.
Can you check on http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx ?

Google for checkesnfree, can verify if phones are blacklisted there.
Possible 1)
Dial *#0011# with your sim card inside. Look for something called "IMEI CERT". If it says "Fail" (or not listed at all) then the problem is "The Unlock Pro's" have buggered your NVM. And without a proper backup of your original NVM, nothing to do.
Possible 2)
Flash the stock modem for your Mega (newest version only) and kernel only. Wipe data/factory reset, then reapply your APN settings. Make sure to do a manual select on the network.
Possible 3)
Dial *#06#, write down your IMEI, then pull your battery out and look at the sticker on back and see if the IMEI on the sticker matches. If it doesn't then they have altered your IMEI (which is illegal by the way), and put your IMEI to one that is in use by another phone.
thanks for all the reply's!!! do you guys kno where I could download the modem for this phone?? I had to download an re-install the modem on my Unlocked AT&T S3 I747 I had on Metro
just to give a update im still having the calling out/receiving calls problem , the company I paid 60 to fix the IMEI refuses to even respond to my e-mails.. I jus find it weird im still getting full data at all times and the phone has the 4G LTE sign at the top right of the screen until I go to make a call then it jus goes to a regular 4G sign with no LTE. also I've noticed the calling out/receiving calls feature works fine depending where im at like for instance I went to the hash bash in Ann Arbor the other day and everything was working fine.. im thinking im going to just send the phone to Joe The Android Rooter and see if he has luck getting it figured out. I'm jus sick of this thing being a money pitt..

Thanks. That was helpful thread in your promoted link.
My wife and I both have brand new Galaxy S5s, and we both intermittently experience this problem. One of us will send a text message to the other, the text will show as being sent, but the other person doesn't receive it. If the person set to receive the message reboots their phone, the message comes through (as well as any other "pending" messages), and normal phone use continues for a few days until this issue returns. Rebooting seems to always fix the issue temporarily.
This of course is not limited to just communication between our phones, but I was using that as an example. Often times, I'll reboot my phone, and realize I have 3 new text messages, and 2 voicemails from yesterday. Very frustrating.
Phone calls are also affected. When these symptoms are present, phone calls cannot be placed or received until the phone is rebooted. Incoming calls go directly to voicemail.
The worst part of it is, there is no easy way to tell our phones are not connected to the network. The reception status shows good connectivity. Most of the time we're connected to wifi, so email and browsing the internet still work.
I'm just wondering if other people are experiencing this, or have any suggestions of some things we can try. Thanks for the help.

From what I know T-Mobile doesn't care if your phone is rooted because you're not doing any warranty service. If that was the case they will probably tell you that its voided.. I have seen a few that root their own phones at their job so I doubt it'll be a problem. But I guess every T-Mobile store isn't the same..

Yes this is the exact problem I had with last GS5. Tmobile replaced it and I still have this problem with the new GS5. The tried to tell me it was just how the old GS5 settings were set. They had me do Factory reset many times, it never helped. Now with the replacement GS5 the exact same problem. Like you everything looks great on the display. I would just get calls on my home line wanting to know why I never answer my mobile phone. The only thing that helps me is a restart but it is only temporary. Do you know if they have released a fix for this problem?

The only thing it seems the tmobile employees know how to do is a factory reset .. That is their solution for about everything . Like the other guy said they dont handle warranty . That is for your samsung warranty when knox is tripped . If you have handset protection nothing voids it from what i have seen . I think tmobile would rather replace a rooted phone than one with a cracked screen .
