[Q] 1.50 Root? please help i have searched - HTC EVO 3D

I just traded my EVO 4g (Rooted) for a new EVO 3d, sadly i cant find a root for the 1.50 build, it has every update on it and yes the recently released security update. Can someone direct me to find the Root for this certain build?
Thanks
NonEVOlved

There is no known actual s-off method for the 1.5 hboot, not yet at least. You will either have to wait or use the HTC unlock method.

I recommend this guide. [GUIDE] HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 + TWRP Recovery + Root + Flash Ur Ass Off! [9.11.11] One note about this GUIDE. The modified Recovery file works perfect, but its an older version of TWRP. Once you are unlocked and good to go, flash the latest TWRP 1.1.1., then the rom, etc.
Dont let all the voided warranty FUD scare you away from the HTC Unlock method. Revolutionary team is not messing with Hboot 1.5 so if you want to flash ROMs and kernels this is as good as it will probably get.
A second method for flashing once rooted is here:[APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode! Its an app that makes it VERY easy but its not free. This allows you to flash directly from android without messing around with adb/command prompt, etc. (like if we had full S-OFF pre-hboot 1.5 version) It's a nice app for only $1.

unlock via HTCdev.com
The only thing you'll have some issues with is flashing roms with different kernels from recovery - you can get around this issue connected to a computer with
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot recovery.img
and you'll have a recovery running in fastboot with full root... I'm using an image of twrp 1.1.1 as my "recovery.img" on the computer.
You can also use FlashImageGUI and flash kernels and ROMs from the OS itself

[Q] Help on newly acquired EVO 3D w/ custom rom

hi, can you teach me how to start a fresh flash on this unit? I bought an EVO 3D in hongkong and it has a goapk chinese custom rom and i wanna update the rom and the hboot to the latest if not the best one out there. i used to flash rom on htc hd2 android but i already forgot the sequence coz i think this one's different. can you give me a checklist how to fresh install the custom rom i downloaded? i have Stock Rooted Roms with SuperUser 2.08.651.2 Update (2.3.4) coz i don't like the modded versions, i just need the tweaks and roots, etc.
as of now, my idea is to install a stock rom to update the hboot version, then install a custom recovery, so i can install the custom rom. can you also guide me on what's the best/latest recovery out there?
thanks!

yeah, i know where to find them but i don't know where to start. i think i can install a custom rom right away coz i saw my hboot 1.49 has the revolutionary cwm but i'm not sure if there's a better cwm out there. i also wanna be informed if there's a perfect stock rom out there if there's any coz like back when i still have my hd2, there's a camera issue on sense 3.0 port or sense bug in gingerbread roms, etc.. i don't wanna waste my time reading all the threads here just to learn all that if someone out there already know the answer in just 1sentence. i hope you got my point. that's why i posted in this q&a section.

Doing the research is part of what you need to do. Now I would be really careful due to the fact of where your device is from. Spend a few hours and do the research. There is no one sentence answer. Each device is different a.d can react differently

at least you made a point. my device is gold instead of red. i got it in hongkong but the box is not in english nor chinese (france i think, i'll check on it). it's already unlocked and has custom rom on it that's why i just wanna know directly from the experienced if installing a stock rom/ruu will update the hboot version so i can install the latest cwr, or will it lock my device and/or bootloader. in htc hd2, there are different versions of rom like cwr with recovery 150, 400, etc.. i'm not sure if it's still the same in evo 3d.
What I did......
My device initial status is was unlocked, rooted, customized rom and recovery, S-On and Hboot 1.49.018.
What i did was i downgraded my Hboot version so I can use Revolutionary tool to S-OFF my device(it didn't root my device upon checking with root checker app. Revolutionary tool only has beta keys for 1.49.007 & 1.49.008 so i downgraded to .007.
To downgrade, change the CID to HTC__001. I checked mine using a CID getter app and it was was HTC_027 (France, I think).
To change the cid, use fastboot command (you can download it along with adb.exe). If your device is still locked, "I think" you need to unlock it first using htcdev's tool.
After changing CID, I flashed the official rom PG86IMG.zip with 1.49.007 hboot by putting the zip file on the root of your SD then boot in bootloader by holding vol down while powering the evo 3d on. It will not work if fastboot settings is checked on htc settings.
After flashing, it booted normally(it asked me to setup my device). I downloaded a file explorer to rename the PG86IMG.zip so when I boot into bootloader, it will not extract the official rom again and ask me if I wanna flash(again) the rom, of course i will say no. I booted into bootloader to check the hboot version which is now on 1.49.007. I think the boot loader will be "relocked" too(sorry, i forgot).
I can then request the beta keys so I can use it in Revolutionary tool to S-OFF the device (I have to check if it roots the device too).
The tool asked me if I want to install the Revolutionary Recovery which I pressed yes so I can install custom firmwares(Internet connection required). After the process, the unlocked status from bootloader now says revolutionary.
I powered my device and update Over-the-air but it got stuck to triangle-!-android robot. Maybe because I have the custom recovery (revolutionary). So i flashed the PG86IMG.zip again through bootloader, it removed the custom recovery i installed from revolutionary tool but it will stay S-OFF. I've yet to check the lock/unlock status of the bootloader since i can't restart my evo 3d coz I'm downloading a 2Gb file but I think it's relocked.
After flashing for the second time and booting it again, set it up, I tried updating again through software updated and it updates the device successfully. It adds 3 nice free 3D Games.
I checked my bootloader status and my device went back to hboot 1.49.018 but still S-off.
Summary:
You can always install the official PG86IMG.zip with hboot 1.49.007 to downgrade the hboot version since the CID is still HTC_001 so you can use the Revolutionary tool to install the Custom Recovery to flash any GSM roms you like.
If you have an easiest route to acheive this, please let me know coz I'm not sure if I learn the most recent process or if it's old.

Can someone make a new rooting guide?

Now that the HTCDev allows the unlocked bootloader, and stuff at their website, is there a better (read:easier, quicker) method of installing CyanogenMod? I had rooted my phone a long time back but I had issues and had gone back to Stock ROM for a long time. Now, I feel the need to go back to Custom ROMS.
Can someone tell me if the Google Market works well on CM7? That's all I care for, really.
Here is a guide I had posted a while back when I was an enthusiast. Could someone go through it and modify it in accordance to the new method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823625
Thank you, everyone!
Edit:- Now done Hboot 1.02 and unlocked boot loader, can't use clockwork mod update.zip :-(
I haven't yet done the hboot update to 1.02, but my understanding is that once you've done it, you can use clockwork mod to flash custom rom, the bootloader is already unlocked so shouldn't need rooting again.

There's no need for a new guide. Everything is described perfectly at HTCdev.

Sill me, I did not see the "Proceed to Step 1."
once you have Hboot 1.02 update done, you are NOT rooted, you need to use
HTC SuperTools v3 from here: http://barbey.me/?page_id=202
I did selection 1 then 3, then had su, but android commander reported no root access anymore

CM7 for the Legend is very mature.
Everything I use, including the Market, works fine.
Does the Wifi Access Point work on CM7 ? I've read on several custom roms it doesn't because of driver issues.

After I unlock my Legend with HTCDev,
I used the wildfire path on unrevoked.com
unrevoked installed clockwork mod and everything, so I just needed to put the cyanogenmod zip on my sd card and install from recovery.
very easy
I did pretty much the same thing as ranger4740. I used HTCSuperTool v3 to gain root but had problems flashing CWM Recovery from the stock recovery. So I did a bit of researching and ended up having to put my phone into fastboot and use adb to push the recovery image onto my Legend and flash it. After that I've had no problems with my rooted Legend Once I'm able to post links (because I'm still pretty new here) I hope to write a full updated root guide
The unrevoked method is seriously the easiest one and I've tried heaps of methods
Took me a half hour and I was playing with cyanogen 7.
I can put up some instructions if u like, but it would have to wait until I get back to the laptop, and honestly, its incredibly straight forward.

Check your hboot. If your hboot is less than 1.00 than unrevoke is the fastest way. Dont bother to bootloader unlock phone via htcdev. Since unrevoke also flash a cwm recovery. You can flash any rom directly from there.
But else follow the htc dev guide to unlock bootloader. Once your bootloader got unlocked. Use fastboot to flash your recovery to cwm. With this cwm recovery you can flash cm7 directly.
Before htcdev gave bootloader unlock for our legend, The only reason i found why we of thouse with hboot 1.00 and above need to downgrade to eclare is to also downgrade stock recovery to e2 from e3 which came during froyo. Because our cwn fakeflash update.zip only able to load from e2. Thus from eclare you can flash cm7.
The guides are there. Its already there. Many of us has use it successfully.

[Q] HTCdev bootloader or downgrade to 1.4?

I have a completely stock 3D with hboot 1.5, s-on, software 2.17. I want to gain root access in order to flash custom roms and such.
I saw a walk through on how to do this via HTCdev bootloader. I've also read about downgrading to hboot 1.4 and achieving s-off.
What are the advantages of downgrading to 1.4 and achieving s-off vs. sticking with 1.5 and s-on by using the HTCdev method?
Well fort you want be registered as having messed with your device to prevent a void in your warranty. The others are you can flash without any programs needed to install a kernel also you can flash splash screens. Flashing radios is also a benefit of soff. But soff will allow you to actually brick your device vs having just bootloader unlocked.

So s-off is going to give me more access. Essentially the better option if I'm willing to take the risk?
Everything I've read about downgrading to 1.4 and getting s-off is via Linux... Is there a way to do this from Windows 7 instead?

Keep this in mind... S-off is great but you can fully permabrick your device with s-off, hard to do but it can be done. S-on blows but I'm pretty sure you can fix anything but a hardware failure with the unbrick method.

If I might suggest, take a look at the CD in my signature. There is a guide in post #3. It should help to ease the process a bit.

Since my roommate is doing it for me (his computers and computer knowledge are way more capable than mine) I let him decide which way he was going to do it. We ended up going with the HTC bootloader unlock.
We got it successfully unlocked through the bootloader but it still doesn't have root access. Like, apps that require root won't work and he can't get anything to flash on it. Suggestions?

Thank you so much! That is awesome! I really appreciate you getting those all in one place for me.
I finally have root access and am currently running infected rom eternity and am super stoked!
reaper24 - Thank you for your input as well. I got the cwm 4... my roommate just tried to do something by going to one of the newer versions... Whatever it was he was trying to do didn't work and he went back to 4, so I'll definitely be sticking with that for now.
Next order of business... unlocking my friends' phone. She got hers in January (preloaded with hboot1.5 and 2.17). Can't get it to unlock via HTC bootloader unlock. I did read that there is a problem getting the newer ones that shipped with the updated software to unlock. I understand you need the 2.08 RUU. I found an active link and downloaded the file... Now what do I do with the thing?
Where did you find the working ruu I need one. I honestly think you just rename it to pg86img put it on the root of your sd card and hold down vol down and power. Once it loads into bootloafer it will scan the file and ask you if you want to flash it over.

[Q]Detailed Instrucions on how to update rooted EVO 4G LTE (S-ON) to 3.16.651.3 OTA

Hi. I currently have a Rooted EVO 4G LTE, HBOOT 2.09 with JEWEL S-ON. Its running software version 3.15.651.16 on android 4.1.1. Im trying to download the OTA that came out january 31st, Without breaking my precious root. Ive heard the horror stories about rooted folks tryin to download the OTA, with their touch-screen enabled TWRP recoveries untouchable and their volume buttons unusable and i dont wana take any chances whatsoever with this particular OTA. What is the best way to download this? Should i go S-OFF and download? I'd appricate anyone willing to provide me step-by-step diections before i jack up my phone.
S-OFF is the best way to go it will save you so many headaches down the road.
If you choose to stay S-ON you will have to relock your bootloader and take the OTA from your phone and once complete unlock again (HTC-DEV) flash twrp again and install a Superuser app of your choice or flash a custom rom to gain root

[ROOT] HTC EVO 3D Root Toolkit

Hi guys.
I have recently developed a simple HTC Evo 3D Root Toolkit. This toolkit is very simple and easy to use, just follow onscreen instructions and in few clicks root your device. After rooting process you will get Unlocked Bootloader (S-OFF),Custom recovery (you can chose within cwm, cwm touch and twrp), Root access(SuperSU or Superuser app). I update this app very soon and if you see some bugs and things like that please send me a message. App is tested and you must accept the Disclaimer window. The website for this app will arrive very soon. I hope that this app will be very useful for you and if you like it click thanks button and spread the word about this project.

I am not responsible for any damage to your device and bricking it...
...I've been trading PMs with ShadowGaba and this toolkit is quite worth it, actually.
For an unlock no0b such as myself, I was initially cowardly. In the end, after about 12 hours of trial-and-error, it's still absolutely worth it.
Although not entirely clear, SGs toolkit did a successful job of unlocking, installing a recovery, and installing a superuser.
Some of the steps almost felt superfluous, but SG's right; for the most part, follow the directions and you'll unlock successfully.
The only snag for me was having to switch to 4ext recovery (the toolkit offers only twrp and clockworkmod; it'd be nice if 4ext was one of the choices) in order to smartflash a ROM; only because I'm still on 1.58 hboot and S-on, post-unlocking. (Many ROMS just don't flash properly because of the 1.58 hboot and S-on; besides, many posts recommended 4ext recovery in smartflash mode to properly load ROMs, anyhow.)
Although I won't be enjoying any JB ROMs until I wire-trick my way to S-off and/or downgrade my hboot, I am currently enjoying Nega-Lite's Blu-Rom 2.95.651.5 immensely, without fail.
The battery-life and the smoothness are incredibly slick and worth it to flash to from my God-awful, battery-draining, store-bought VM JB OS.
I personally think I'm resourceful enough to get through any snags in the toolkit process, but ShadowGaba was well on-hand and curious to know if I unlocked successfully.
To the fearful, I'm sure SG would help out if you're stuck.
If you're questioning whether or not to unlock, I say go for it; so many delicious ROMs for your HTC EVO 3D await your discovery.
Cheers, ShadowGaba.

I will soon update this toolkit, but unfortunately 4ext recovery can ony be installed with Recovery Control. This is app which you can download from google play.

SENT FROM MY STOCKED OUT EVO 3D(PLEASE SOM1 HELP ME A.S.A.P)
Important Note
After Unlocking bootloader using this toolkit you will be able to flash custom roms, but not the custom kernels.
But, using one simple trick you can flash custom kernels:
1.Boot into recovery using fastboot or using HTC Dumlock
For any other info, stay tuned in this thread.
Flashing 4ext recovery

...I've been trading PMs with ShadowGaba and this toolkit is quite worth it, actually.

Okay meatfest. To get S-OFF you must downgrade hboot to 1.49 and use revolutionary to gain S-OFF.
I will explain why your bootloader says Unlocked and S-ON. HTC has modified new devices HBOOT-s, in other words , they have prohibited flashing custom kernels and some roms to your and mine device. So you have couple solutions:
1.Downgrade HBOOT and gain Revolutionary S-OFF
2.Use HTC Dumlock
3.Flash 4ext recovery
4.Boot into recovery using fastboot and flash ...
Thank you for replying and asstance,
Kind regards, Gabrijel
it can root official 4.0.3

HTC Unlock does not work on my phone
Hi, I have hboot 1.58 and software 2.95 and the HTC Dev Unlock method does not work for my phone. The commands go thru but the phone never switches to the Unlock Screen. Do you know of a way to unlock without using the HTC Unlock method??

I ran into the same issue with mine. The issue in my case it was the adb files needed to generate the code to unlock it per the HTC unlock method. The adb files I used (as I am sure you did the same) was part of some package that included it. So I decided to just download the adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030 and executed the CMD prompt from adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030\sdk\platform-tools. Then I followed the HTC Unlock instructions and it worked.
