Possible Permenant Root without unlocking bootloader [NEED TESTERS] - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

hi guys i have recently posted the following:
DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit
it basically uses the zergRush expolit (thanks to Revolutionary team) to get temp root and then pushes files to get permanent root...
its reported to be working on a LOT of devices:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18805560&postcount=2
anyone here who has stock unrooted device and is willing to test this?
please test out and let me know asap

won't work. None of those devices are NAND locked, the flyer is.

I know it won't work and I've got better things to do, so no I won't bother trying, but don't let me stop anyone else and don't think I don't appreciate the effort.

No offense dude, please don't be that harsh on the guy. He doesn't have his flyer yet to test.
To OP: I can't test either, im sorry, i've already revolutionaried+honeycombd.

That's not harsh it's just to the point. I already explained why it wouldn't work. If it was that simple any of the previous temp-roots would have given the same result, that is why there are no HTC phones on the working list of devices.
If this was possible on the HTC devices we would probably have released it as a standalone revolutionary release.

DooMLoRD I went back to GB to test something else so decided to run this anyway, since it wasn't really any extra effort and as I said before it doesn't work, reboot and it's gone.

There is no need for jailbreaking a hero. Just follow the guides available to root it. If you can't follow a guide to root, use univeral androot, although you'll still need to understand what you're doing.
There isn't a one-click root, and it's not really in the spirit of xda. Read about custom ROMs, read about rooting, and get flashing...

From what I can see, the source for the Nexus should work, as it uses the same USB implementation, see here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/lv?key=tarAC83Wjsq2QZvP4iR5mlw&toomany=true#gid=0
Info here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65246&page=6
I think it just needs compiling against a particular kernel against the Hero.

yup someone needs to do that for us asap
I had not seen Pulser missing a beat before
Well, it seems that we need a kernel 2.6.3x to make this work (check in psfreedom.com), since the bundled 2.6.2x uses the MSM_HSUSB driver instead of the MSM72K.
Does anyone know where to grab a kernel like that?
Sorry for sounding stupid, but what is this? lol
There's no such kernel right now. Devs are working on a .34 kernel, but I believe it's still far from complete.

its basically like rooting a ps3 means you can play 'backed up' games and such
i have tried bringing this up on the villain irc channel but all i got was abuse lol so gave up, and this is not the first time so no more donation to them guys from me and no more using there roms.

But, as someone suggested, could it be used as a recovery image with the compiled PSFreedom module?
cant we just port the img made for desire to hero ??
No, we can't, because what we need, the kernel, cannot be ported that way. What devs are trying right now is to port HTC Magic (Sapphire) .34 kernel.
Im so confused!
whats up with this spreadsheet, stating a Hero port is complete?
apperently i can't post links yet. But anyone know what im talkning about?
i read before, but what is the point?
I saw the answer, and yes it makes sense (i know alot about the ps3/psp scene since psp's release). But it doesnt strictly do anything unique at all on android phones does it?
I mean rooting does exactly the same, and the psjailbreak has no different/new features designed for android (i know it shouldnt, but...).
However, it is certainly nice to see a new kind of exploit available. (i remember the wonder of the gta exploit on psp all those years ago caused cries of delight and dark_alex to become a god, those who remember)
there is too type of htc hero some have the correct usb type some dont
I guess the best solution will be to port the exploit to the 2.6.2x kernel (seems more feasible than waiting to have a working 2.6.3x kernel).
Its updated!
hxxp://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?title=Device_compatibility_list
Now requires: 2.6.29 or higher Kernel
We should ask rom makers to help us out
On other note is someone trying to make it work for HTC hero

Downgrading to hc

Since I can't post in the dev section, I will just post my question here. I want to downgrade back to hc, and while I know there's a way, I was wondering what the success rate was like
So I've seen that some devices have had corrupted bootloaders/ get bricked/stop working properly when downgrading to hc. About what is the success rate of downgrading from .14 to .33?
Any help would be appreciated

Risky but possible.

Okay thanks so much for the replies. Glad I didn't do that then . That's the only way to downgrade other than unlocking the bootloader which is even more dangerous right?

Unlocking the bootloader is not dangerous (you can do dangerous things to the prime after, but not really accidentally)
If someone made a rom of HC then you could..
-unlock
-install cwm via Rom Manager
-boot into cwm, wipe, flash the rom..
but I doubt anyone would make a rom of HC because why would you? unless there was enough request for it.

you can downgrade with adb shell
more instructions in that thread
noting extrimly, just use command by copiing it in to shell and you'll get profit
Disclaimer
While this process appears to work on everyone's device, you have to assume all risks due to unforeseen circumstances and need to understand there is a risk of bricking your tablet during the update.
Although someone else was successful in downgrading from ICS to Honeycomb, there has been a report of a TFP bootlooping. Everyone else has been successful in downgrading from ICS 9.4.2.13 to ICS 9.4.2.11.
UPDATE: 2 reports so far of tablets bootlooping after downgrading to Honeycomb.

Why is anyone downgrading?
HC being better or ICS being worse is likely a placebo affect.
If you are trying to fix GPS issues, GPS simply does not really work well at all.

IMHO ICS is not optimizied for now, thats whay people do downgrade
Example may games going good on HC, but dont work om ICS.
i think GPS is a hardware problem and no firmware will fix it.
if i'm wrong correct me.

GPS: Yes. But some people are using "My GPS worked better on HC" as an excuse.
Games: I've noticed zero difference. My tablet runs great now (but of course I am running a lightning fast custom Rom, which if not everybody does they are missing out).
Yeah its mostly for gameloft games as well as some rooted apps that have stopped working

This is very likely not a HC advantage or ICS con and more likely an issue from flashing over.
I don't know much about factory resetting on stock roms, but I know a wipe and flash of a custom rom would probably fix your issues (but you need to unlock bootloader, install CWM, then install a rom like Virtuous)

Catch-22

So they are getting root for locked bootloaders over in the Z3 forum. I imagine it would work for our phones, except that to do that someone with an already rooted device would need to provide the info they need

I would say that you don't understand my post. They have found a root exploit for the Z3 (or at least certain variants of it at this point) which is exactly what we z3v owners are looking for, however for the devs to make it work for our phones someone with an unlocked boot loader and root would have to supply them with the info they need. Quite obviously we don't have an unlocked boot loader to get root hence the catch-22

apparently you haven't been following the thread. Those that are developing the root method need the adb output from someone that already has root. Some of the Z3 variants already had root by unlocking the bootloader.

The root method they are working on is for locked bootloaders, they need the output from someone that previously achieved root by unlocking the bootloader. It is beneficial on Sony devices to have root without unlocking the bootloader so you can save your DRM keys/back up the TA partion. Also rooting without unlocking doesn't disable some on the camera functions.

not everyone would need to provide the adb output, just one person with the device. So, if by a miracle, one person had a z3v with an unlockable boot loader, rooted their phone and provided the adb output then they might be able to make the root tool work on the z3v's that have locked boot loaders, but since no one, afaik, has a z3v with an unlocked boot loader then we can't achieve root via the root tool. Thus the catch-22

So I am npt that experienced when it comes to this stuff but im pretty sure verizon does NOT have an unlocked bootloader. I have the s4 and am looking into the z3v. I know people are still currently trying to break it. But the s4 can use towel root. Obviously its not that simple here since its not done yet. But seeing as this is still fairly new. They will have root sometime soon.

If you had read the thread, there's no catch 22. The exploits they're leveraging were patched on the Z3v and TMo Z3 prior to release. It was stated multiple times.

Hey Everyone,
If you are reading this thread you care about the LG v10 getting rooted on android 6.0 Marshmallow! Great, so here is what's happening behind the scenes at the moment. Right now there are two different possible ways our phone is going to get root, there are two different people working on a general root. The one is going through a tough time and is taking some time to himself, which is okay, somebody's life is more important than a root method. The second guy just had a post to xda about him rooting the LG k10, now there is no guarantee this will work on our V10 buuuuuttttttt, this is very similar to what our first guy is working on so a few modifications and we could get something up and running, whichever comes first. We've been waiting a long time and I understand that. I know it can be discouraging and frustrating. You will have a weekly update from me on what is going on with the status and if something fails and we give up in any sort, you will know about it. I promise we are trying to find a way! You guys have any comments or questions I will be posting another thread with the link below. I will gladly respond to any questions or information you have for me! It can be a simple question or in depth, I can help you out and save you time! You may post on this thread buy let's keep it cleaned up because this is where I will post updates and the root method once it's finished! Don't get discouraged, we will find a way!\
Sincerely,
@abine45 and @alvinator94
UPDATE 2/19 :
Hey everyone,
I got some good news! Today, we are working on packaging up the root, this is not tested, so no guarantees that this will work, but it should! I am not going to give details right now about how we are trying to obtain this until It's tested. I might have a select few test along with us after our test just to be extra positive it works. With this, though I have more news, if this does work, we could very possibly obtain twrp!!!! That's our next step after root. It would most likely be released together! That is all for today!! Unfortunately this device will likely be locked just like the J327T.
I have been watching that thread and everything that has been tried is pretty much what I attempted to explain would be a waste of time.
The combination firmware is useless to gain root on nougat.
No auto root is ever gonna work either and neither is Flashfire or SuperSU.
There is a list of reasons why these things won't work, but I'll not waste my time in that thread explaining why.
I don't mind explaining further why here. Just so others will not waste efforts like on the J327T thread.
I'll let that thread run its course until all avenues have reached their inevitable dead ends.
They are harsh words, but unfortunately they are truth.
Suffice to say that the only real way for this device to see root is either an unlocked bootloader (highly unlikely), a proper engineering binary or an exploit is released for Android 7.
If an exploit is found then Kingroot will almost certainly incorporate it in their Software and then there maybe a chance that the combination binary (not the whole firmware) will help get root.
If anyone can confirm for sure this device doesn't have a locked bootloader then I'd be happy to work on it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this here idea?
