If you have S-OFF, that means you can follow the directions here to install CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680

Ok, I'm sure there is an identical thread, but after scanning for over an hour I can't find any clear answer to my question (Even the sticky has multiple ways to do it with over 500 pages). Each thread and article I read contradicts the last one, stating that this is the best way to root, or this is the best way to root and that the last one I read doesn't work well. Some of them involve flashing with Odin, some are similar to SuperOneClick, and then there is SuperOneClick. I've read that with some updates that this doesn't work and that doesn't work, but then I read conflicting comments and threads that say it did work with this update.
So my question is: what is the easiest, more reversible way to root? I had a really bad experience rooting with my first GSII (had issues with software and then it wouldn't call and then wouldn't unroot and go back to stock) and would really prefer not to flash if possible.
I'm running stock 2.3.4 (for some reason my phone tells me I'm up to date), and I do apologize if I'm restating a question that's already been asked a million times.
Look at the sticky. Will tell you everything
Where's the ban hammer?
Just follow the stickied instructions. There's multiple ways but they all lead to the same thing. A rooted phone.
P.s. I believe entropy has a good thread.

Are they all as easily reversible?
Sorry guys for posting an obvious question.
The best way to root for you is to follow my guide "Installing custom binaries without incrementing the flash counter" (See link in signature)
Follow steps 1 and 2c. That will give you root. It's easy to reverse. Just flash the stock package without root.
If you want custom software, continue on with steps 3 and 4.

This is the route I decided to go with. I had my eyes set on trying out the ICScreweD Rom along with the Siyahkernel but I couldn't get them both to work together using this method for root. I don't know if its just a problem that I'm having or that its just plain out not possible. I'm a noob still so I wouldn't know. I'm currently looking into other root methods so that I can use the Rom and Kernel I mentioned together.
However, using this root method was really simple to use and I recommend it.
The "next generation" scares me because they cant seem to do anything for themselves, always wanting people to do everything for them and they are so impatient.
Thread closed due to several stickys explaining step by step on how to root.
Right, might be wrong section, and completely sure this has been asked somewhere.
I am very keen, I just dont know where to start.
My 10.1v just decided to start screwing around. It is like it is frozen? With the screen off. Yet I can hear emails being received. And when I put it on charge, the screen goes on, yet it is in a frozen state (time stays the same) I have rebooted it a view times, no joy. So my idea is to wipe the thing, and reload the software. what does it entail? where do I start? I see all these terms, but not sure what they mean?
Please assist if I'm in the right section?
Cheers!
You're in the wrong section. This is for DEVELOPMENT only. Your post should go in the Q&A.
I'd say you can start by reading the sticky posts in the 10.1(v) dev forum.
Basic steps are:
1. Unlock the bootloader (read sticky carefully)
2. Root your device (read sticky carefully)
3. Install a ROM (verify partition and CWM)
mate check out this thread, make sure you have proper drivers in place and kies installed

good luck

Depends if you prefer a custom or a stock ROM, Custom ROM's usually have major custom changes, but the stock, yeah plain as ice.
I don't know if he want's to root it or if he has, since warranty get's void that way.
ok, so my phone was "rooted" if i can even call it that, im saying that because yes, superuser was on there, but even titanium backup wasnt working properly, so i wanted to try again. so i searched up a way to unroot it with odin. it was basically overwriting my current root with a stock samsung kernel. that's all i did, now it will make all the power-up sounds the phone usually does but it's stuck on the samsung screen. i even tried going to voodoo and doing a factory reset with no luck. please help!
check out my guide here in this section. refer to section 5 and 6...

please help me guys dont know what to do now to update my device from ICS to Jellybean heres my sreenshots>>>>
Same as everyone else with Odin problems; Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General, find it & try as many of the troubleshooting steps as many times as you need to in order to get a successful flash.
There's nothing which isn't in the thread that can be suggested in these situations, it is 'the Bible for these situations. You may need to persevere (I.E keep at it, don't post here' Saying I've tried a few of the thing in the thread it won't work blah blah blah blah') as it sometimes takes a number of flashes or to actually try everything in the thread a number of times.
So...You now have the tools to get this done, the rest is up to you.

assuming the TWRP is the right one for your device, boot into recovery or fastboot and disable avb/dm-verity by flashing vbmeta_disabled.img

I have fix this one but now I got internal test os and can't update
please be descriptive it's hard to follow you... "have fixed this" doesn't reveal anything about:
- what was the previous phone state?
- what guide you followed (link)?
- what files used (link)?
- what tools used?
- what exact steps have you done?
- what is your current phone state?
If you "have fixed this" successful already:
- what is your current (new) issue?
- is the issue related to your previous issue (new question)?

My problem is can't get ota updates and I got nv ram problemand and it has a very old firmware
so I use my crystal ball... you flashed phone from SP Flash Tool in forbidden mode Format All + Download. you did not make a backup (read back) first. device unique partitions like persist, nvram (not included in stock ROM) are gone and you lost calibration data, mac address, IMEI etc.
you can try to restore IMEI, however you did neither answer any question nor shared any link you were following, so I you're on your own... Good Luck
