So I read it works on roms 2.3.4 and below. I get my sgs2 tomorrow so does this cover on most roms that are out? The reason I ask is that the inspire which I have till tomorrow has roms based on 2.3.5
Thanks

There's a leaked 2.3.6 out but it has issues. Best to avoid as it doesn't really add anything. It updates the bootloaders so the jig doesn't work. Any rom that has bootloaders included is best left as garbage. Not to mention even if there is a room based off that leaked build, it will by definition have issues. Even the 2.3.6 build for the skyrockets is giving problems.
Mobiletech videos has some pretty high quality jigs. People have been finding the cheap off brand ones don't consistently work on these phones.
But you don't really need one. Check out the write up done by creepyncrawly. It's a step by step how to root and flash any room you want, even cm7, without tripping the flash counter.
They're useful to have if you're having trouble getting into download mode.

I think it depends on when you got it. From what i've read, the early ones had a different resistor in it that worked fine on the Cappy but apparently doesn't on the GSII. I assume the later ones got a slightly different resistor since they work on both.
I just ordered one from Mobile Tech Videos too. Luckily I never needed one for my Captivate.
Resently i decided to buy used i777 at ebay. While was purchasing 'new' device, i found out that almost all esed ones are previously repaired. Have you got any information what is wrong with it?

Can you provide some specifics? Tell us exactly what the problem is with the phone. What does it do, or what does it not do?

Within the 7 days still
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
what are you claiming as your reason to exchange?
I highly doubt it. The great majority of employees probably have no idea what a flash counter even is, much less how to view it.
Well, from my experience, returning a few phones:
Samsung Infuse - didn't power on, just opened back cover to make sure IMEI matched up
HTC Vivid - same
Galaxy Skyrocket - they didn't even open the box, lol
So you're probably good! From my understanding, they only look at the flash count for warranty repairs. I don't think many ATT sales guys even know what a flash count is
Seems like the one I got can't overclock past 1.7 GHz.... 1.83 causes to restart...... I'm gonna say that out of the blue he phone decides to not register keys.... And I'll just reflash stock rom and kernel

You could return it even if you somehow managed to port Meego on it.
Really, they don't care. Let alone have the ability to check the flash count. I've had a couple customers return phones that had CM7 on it

Maroon Mushroom can you return a black note and tell them you really wanted the white...and will they exchange right on the spot
You guys should start a "Ask Maroon Mushroom Thread" lol....or maybe "Ask an At&t Employee Thread"?
Well i just returned my black one for a white one and the lady didn't even power it on to see if it even worked plus they gave me a new screen protector and to top that off she didn't charge me a restock fee
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Yeah, just exchanged my black one for a white today. The black one had some screen issues (uneven back lighting, dead pixel). I wiped and flashed back to stock before returning it, flash counter was at 2. Was able to exchange no problem, just powered on the phone to check the screen issue and that was it.
OK so next month I'm eligible for an upgrade from at&t and I'm wondering what is the best phone to root is. I've look at the specs and I'm leaning towards the note but want some advice on rooting capabilities on Samsung. I've only rooted my HTC inspire but I would imagine that Samsung is better but I don't know.
Thanks in advance.

its REALLY easy. U download and install some drivers, and then use superoneclick. Then use a program called odin to flash a custom recovery called clockworkmod. Then u pretty much know the rest, as I think its the same for ur current phone. we have stickies that explain it I'm detail
You should wait for the SGS3. It will be a pretty nice device. And will probably come with ICS out of box.

Ok I've started to look into the SGS3 and is this thing really coming out in may? It seems too good to be true that my contract is up for renewal the same month that the most anticipated phone is released. My luck isn't that good.

To be fair if it looks like any of the leaked photos are showing it will be one fugly mobile. I'm due for an upgrade myself and hanging between SG3 and One X but just from aesthetic point of view I will probably go for HTC.
My wife's new (refurb) SGII is arriving today. If the phone arrives with 2.3.4, is there any way to block or refuse the 2.3.6 update? I assume it is recommended to stay with 2.3.4 if possible? I do not wish to root.
I just got my refurb the other day and it came with 2.3.6. Yours will probly be the same.

From what I have read. I would block it, especially if you are not looking to root. I have also heard that it may update on its own, so you may only be able to block for so long.

Just don't click the software update button and you'll never see it. It will not automatically push to your phone. I got my refurb at the beginning of Feb and it had 2.3.4.

Sale Price
Check out the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561099
The on-line sale price for a new Samsung Galaxy S II is now $9.99. I just bought mine last week at $99.99 so I called AT&T and they credited my account. Great deal at $9.99!
Damn. What's funny I got tired of my Backflip and added a second line for my fiance and took the GS2 and gave her the flip. Go figure my actual contract just ended and I could've gotten a new one if I waited a month!

If yours comes with 2.3.6, you can always flash 2.3.4 if you want. There should be no negative side effects.
You can prevent the OTA update by deleting the download manager, but of course you need to be rooted first. You could always root, delete it, and then unroot.
What is your reason for not wanting to root?
i got my refurb yesterday and it came with 2.3.6 already. what exactly is the problem with having it? i was able to root and install a custom ROM pretty easily. i had 2.3.6 on my atrix too before i switched.
2.3.6 had some serious wi-fi/battery drain bugs..

Nothing wrong with 2.3.6 in general - but the AT&T UCKK6 build for I777 is AWFUL. It has some major power management issues.
Later I9100 2.3.6 builds, like XWKL1 and XWLA4, are much better.
I monitor my battery drain pretty closely. I get the same per hour battery drain with 2.3.6 (UCKK6) and 2.3.4 when My location is not enabled. 2.3.6. is slightly better battery-wise when I have My location turned on. Plus, 2.3.6 has a few fixes and improvements.
Holy ****! $10 is a great deal. Got mine during the $50 sale at Radioshack on Black Friday. if you get the 'package' deal its only $0.01. Everyone tell your friends!
Trying to convince Mrs Slavestate to get one instead of waiting for the iJoke 5 this summer but after our experience with the Motorola Backflip she hates Android now haha.
