Because of various work/personal email accounts, I have 3 different accounts set up on my phone, 2 gmail and 1 exchange. I've set the exchange account to sync 1 an hour during peak schedule (when I'm sitting at my desk anyway), and switch back to push during off-peak (5pm-8am, and weekends).
In the gmail app though, it doesn't seem to have settings to switch away from push. In an ideal world, I'd like to set one of my accounts to only sync every 2 hours or so, with the other remaining as a push account.
Any way to do this, short of setting up the accounts in the default mail app, which is less friendly than gmail?
Edit: I should note, this is all in hopes of extending my battery life on UnNamed 1.3.0

I've been using Das bamf 1.6.3 on my Thunderbolt for a week now and it's been working fine, now all of a sudden sometimes I get my e-mail notifications and sometimes I don't, it's intermittent. It doesn't seem to be specific where the source of the e-mail comes from. Its been happening for two days and no changes have been made to the phone. Anyone have any ideas?
I think the email sync defaults on manual-sync when not at peak times, which is defaulted as Mon-Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm, I believe. If your settings are like this then you wont receive a notification on the off times unless you manually sync your email.
I know this sounds newbish, but where do I set the frequency to which it updates? I went to account/sync and there is no way to adjust it's sync schedule. I even tried under settings for gmail. Thanks!
I personally dont use the Gmail app for my email I use the "Mail" app for it. You can connect multiple email accounts to it and if you go to Settings > Accounts & Sync and select each mail account you can then set up an update schedule.
Anyone else having problems getting the native HTC email to sync correctly? I have an Exchange account and 3 IMAP accounts and the IMAP accounts will not sync on a regular basis. I loaded up Enhanced Email and it works fine.
I checked as many setting as I could and all appears to be set correctly: wireless networks all set to never sleep, background data and auto-sync both checked
I can keep using Enhanced Email but it's aggravating that I can't get the HTC app to work correctly.
Anyone have any ideas?
I figured it out. When I first got the phone and went through the setup I got a 504 gateway error. I also got there 504 gateway error when initially trying to set up my email accounts. Called customer service and they said to skip out of the setup and do everything manually. She said there was a glitch in the software and that the Gmail and Yahoo account setups didn't work and that all accounts needed to be set up through the IMAP process. Needless to say this is what was causing my problem.
To correct the email sync issue I deleted all of my accounts and set them up through the Gmail and Yahoo account set up process and all appears to be working now.
I am having the same problem so I just tried this option of setting up my yahoo accounts through the set up process. It does appear to receive email much faster but there are some downsides.
My Yahoo inbox (on the website) and the inbox on my Rezound are not completely synced now. The app has the option of downloading up to 30 days of email. Mail older than 30 days doesn't show up on the phone even if it's in your inbox on the website. Conversely, email that I deleted or moved from my inbox some time ago has now magically reappeared on my phone.
Another problem is that my mail folders that I set up on the website do not appear on the Rezound mail app anymore.
Seems the negatives are too numerous to have better syncing. I'm switching back to the manual setup as all the problems I mentioned above are not there and I'll just put up with poor syncing for now.
What is better for the battery life, to have my email accounts to push or to auto synch every 5 minutes or 1 hour?
I have Google it but I can't find a clear answer.

Nobody Knows ? any suggestions?
Why don't you try it your self? and see which is better?
Are you talking Gmail accounts, Imap email accounts (through additional app) or Exchange account?
At least on ALE8 stock ROM, stock Exchange had a huge battery drain... something was terribly wrong with the email client.
Some exchange providers do not let you pull the email and enforce pushing.
With proper Exchange client implementation and an acceptable Exchange configuration on server-side, Push will need less battery since it doesn't require any interaction on the part of your phone except if new emails arrive.
(Except to re-open the data connection on timeout)
I'd like to have different sync intervals for different types of Gmail data - e.g. email every 10 minutes, Calendar every hour, contacts once per day. There doesn't seem to be a way of doing this from the Accounts & Sync settings page.
Is this possible?
(I'm running stock ICS, rooted)
Hi all,
I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the default Email client.
I have various email accounts, but want to set the syncing options (times, peak, off-peak) separately, but I seem to be unable to do this. The only one which is giving me options to set the syncing is the Hotmail one, which allows me to set separate peak and off-peak syncing, the rest only allow me to set syncing intervals.
My issue is that I have some accounts for which I need emails to come through 24 hours a day, and others that I only want during normal office hours, but (apart from the Hotmail account) I cannot set this up individually.
On my previous HTC I was able to set this up separately for each account, I assumed it was a standard Android Email app, but I guess I must have been wrong!
My question is, have I missed something in the settings?
If it's not possible, is there an email app that I can download that will allow individual sync settings per account?
Thanks in advance!
