Hi guys
Can you help me with this question?
I love android and android system.
I have try one HTC g1 one Motorola milestone and finally i work fine with my galaxy.
But in some case i want a screen bigger than the 4 inch of galaxy.
My question is very simple... I don't want one tablet but i want just a smartphone with 5 '' inche and the dell is perfect for me!
But i have read some bad opinion... Can you suggest me if is a good idea change my galaxy s for one dell streak? If the new software version, also some Rom not official, increase the experience may be that i can change my smartphone but actually my galaxy s with a unofficial Rom fly and work fine.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I think most of the bad opinions about the streak have come from people who bought it locked to ATT. They didn't get the 2.2 froyo update right away.
If you buy it unlocked from Dell, you pay a higher price, but you get better support.
I came from a Samsung Galaxy S phone called the Captivate.
Hands down the galaxy S line is dog****.
With 2.2 froyo on Dell streak, there is no lag, working gps and it works as expected flawlessly all the time.
there really is no decision to make.. this will hold me off until the next version of the streak comes out...
Thanks guys
I think that the normal Italian.version is free and not locked... And with your post I thing that if will found a good product... I will change my galaxy.. And i will use a smartphone bigger but always portable!
What is your comments about camera? Work fine?

I recently bought my wife a Galaxy S, so got to play with it a bit. Really like the Super Amoled Screen, a real improvement from Amoled (my previous Samsung Omnia HD).
However, I still prefer and LOVE my Streak, the 4 inch screen looks ways smaller compare to the 5 inch. I love the big screen because I watch a lot of movies on it. By saying that, I did also buy myself a Captivate as my back up phone
If you want a good screen phone but scared of the big screen, why not wait for the Galaxy S2 which has the 4.3 inch screen. But personally 4.3 would still be too small for me.
Streak is a good size not too big at all, easily fit in loose pockets
dear dmax99
your opinion is exactly the same for me: i think that 5'' can be the good size for.a.people.that want work fine with the smartphone and not use the tablet.
i don't know why all the factory produce only 4.3'' as maximum dimension of the screen.
this is the real situation... for example now i can choose.. or buy in April maybe the new galaxy s 2 but with only 4.3'' or try to find one streak but at this moment the streak is not dual core and without tegra... do you know if exist a new.device with this new hardware but with 5'' of display?

i came from the galaxy s captivate and i think that my dell is the greatest thing ever
I'm on the fence about either a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or a Tablet S.. right now they are priced about the same but the local store is doing a free set of Sony earbuds and case with the Tablet S.
Would love to hear opinions as to which is the best option. I like the unique look of the Tablet S so far.
I had the Samsung and sold it to buy the Sony. The Sony is much more comfortable to use and its design is fantastic. It also benefits from a full size SD card slot and in my opinion a better screen. You also have the latest OS update on the Sony at Android 3.2.
They are both excellent devices but I just feel the Sony edges it with the comfort factor which is especially good in portrait.
Bought the 10.1 about 4-5 days before the Sony came out, I traded it in on a whim and I'm glad I did. I love my Sony more than I did my 10.1, the size of the Sony feels more right, even in bigger hands.
I sold my rooted Xoom & chose the Tablet S also, it's suppose to be delivered tomorrow or Thurs. The only negative is that the Tablet S hasn't been rooted yet. I plan on testing it out, & if I REALLY miss root, I may sell it & get the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
You are in a Sony forum, so consider that while weighing the answers given.
I have both, and what has aggravated me about the Samsung 10.1 is that they insisted on copying the iPad (good and bad features) as close as possible. No memory expansion. A propietary dock port. Etc.. The Sony S is original, thoughtful, has IR emitter, and an ergonomic shape. I prefer the S for those reasons.
Yeah honestly despite the appearance that Sony just made it look weird for the sake of being unique I cant praise the shape of the tablet enough. It is imo a feature worth being a deciding factor, the tablet just feels so "right" in your hand. The Galaxy is a fine tablet having used it quite a bit but no way would I trade my S Tab for it.
I was at the library today using a corded Laser mouse connected to my S. Love the hardcore computer aspect of it! host port makes it a complete computing device...
Start the same thread in SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 10.1 Section !!!
You will see the difference in opinion...IMO, Sony S is better than Samsung Tab in looks(unique), PS games, better UI, SD Slot !!!
What I don't like is the Sound Output..

Can't wait for it to get rooted either, just to get rid of the customised icons if nothing else!
On topic, the IR remote and Play Station certification swung it for me.
Hello,
I'm strongly considering getting one of the above, once the second one is available. The fact that the noteay have a stronger processor is a plus.
What should I be looking out for in these devices? What are niggles that would prompt me to check and potentially need to replace if found? Software bugs? Construction quality?
Overall use is going to be internet, everyday calendar, notes etc.
Thanks in advance!

it is neither lighter nor thinner , but has a faster processor and a pen
If you're price conscious then the original tab is a great buy. Also consider that accessories for the 10.1 Note will be at a premium while a ton of stuff for the original tab are on clearance.
Wait for the note... The pen is surprisingly great (on the note 5.3 anyway), and the faster processor will be a nice upgrade, because the Tegra 2 in the original 10.1 tab isn't great... Very laggy... Yes it's better with cm9, but still not that good.
I have a gt-p7510 Galaxy tab 10.1 and I like it, but if I didn't already have it, I would definitely wait for the note 10.1.
Thanks for the replies guys. Really appreciated.
I too hate the lag and on video reviews of the note I thought it was very slow so good thing they are improving the processor.
I always wondered if you could use a stylus on the original tab. What is the upgrade that makes the note souh better with the stylus from the tab?

If you're planning to use it for note-taking, the note 10.1 is an easy choice. For everything else, you'll want to consider whether the faster processor is worth the price difference.
I would also wait on the note, even though it won't be out for a good while. I got the galaxy tab 10.1 a few weeks ago and am loving it so far. But this won't stop me from getting the note 10.1 the moment it becomes available (will have to sell this tab then lol). The biggest thing, for me personally, is the pen; stylus functionality isn't the best thing in the world when it comes to the original tab 10.1 even though it may be functional. But thats all it is, functional, not amazing or practical when it comes to taking notes (student's perspective). Of course the processor bump just makes it sweeter, I'm just hoping the price isn't too steep.
Would the Note have the same touch capability as the Tab if not using the pen? If so, then it was be a great plus!

Yes the stylus isn't required. The touch capability would be the same as the current tab, if anything better (highly unlikely) when it comes to using your fingers. The stylus just adds the extra dimension of certain apps that take advantage of that, such as iAnnotate PDF, Zenbrush, etc. And lets not forget the superb precision the pen will bring when it comes to drawing and taking notes. If Samsung puts in an AMOLED HD screen (Ok I'm seriously asking for too much with this suggestion) this tablet will be beyond perfect, IMO.
If price isn't a concern, I'd say wait for the Note. Why buy last year's model when the new one is right around the corner? The processor bump will probably be enough to justify the price difference, but I'm happy enough with my Tab to sit this round out.
as I have mentioned in other threads my experience with 3g model has not been good, as in Samsung stock experience.
The hardware is good, there is no denying of that of course, and if you can mod it you can get pretty good results (I am happy with the latest ROM I installed, Overcome + pershoot kernel).
Although samsung seems to be delaying ics upgrade in favor of new hardware and in my case in Spain I haven't received a single update to my 3g from stock HC 3.1, and stock is everything but functional after little use, not to mention no launcher hw acceleration so when you have a few icons, dragging them around can be infuriating, of course forget about live wallpapers, screen not refreshing certain elements after a while, reboots, and similar utter failure.
From what I am reading Asus is giving better support and motorola xoom already has ICS.
I even have a college at work who is talking wonders about a chinese tab (Onda?) which is much cheaper and already working with ICS.
I suggest you consider the manufacturer.
So here it is June. Any rumored dates for the Galaxy Note 10.1?
And will that justify a new forum, or will we continue with this one?

I don't have any of those problems with my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Dragging icons is fine, live wallpapers work fine, everything refreshes as it should, and I've not had any spontaneous reboots. I'm not rooted and everything seems zippy and smooth. Best tablet I've had so far. I'd like ICS but I'm willing to be patient. I'm sure they have their hands full making sure it's stable and working properly with Touchwiz. Anyone waiting for it through a carrier should be angry with them, not Samsung. The carriers are the ones responsible for pushing the update and most of them drag their feet for some reason.

Personally I say neither and go with Asus. Of the tablets Samsung has been amount the worse at providing updates and failing to do so.

Untrue. LG and Motorola have been far worse. Again, any carrier locked device is at the mercy of the carrier, not Samsung. Samsung may very well have pushed the ICS update to all the major carriers but they haven't pushed it out to their customers yet. Probably because they want to shove all their own UIs and bloatware on it first.
I would be getting the tab sim free and adding a sim to it later on. I much rather not have a locked device if I can buy it depending on price. So I presume updating wont be an issue.
Still no word from samsung though about the release dates

Hi,
is this a good idea to replace a HP Touchpad running CM9 with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)?
I ask because I dont understand why Samsung put only a 1GHz dual processor.
Should I get something else ?
Thanks !
PS: The real question is not the money. Its a gift for someone who needs a great display and long battery life. And of course, you can suggest another brand.

Advise on a tablet.
Hey guys, noob here, first post, hey all - pleased to be here
I'm after a little advise, hope you can help. i'm looking for a tablet for my mum for her birthday. I am based in the UK and am looking for a tablet that will run
1. Tescos online shopping and others ASDA etc. i believe its a uk locked app this has caused me some problems on a chinese tablet (an onda vi40) that has now been sent back wouldnt run even after running the build.prop mod
2. Iplayer, 4od etc over wifi. i'll be honest my router is a draytech and its a few years old now and the wifi isnt gr8 on it. iplayr etc run from my samsung s3 fine, xbox live works well too in the livingroom.
3. Browse the web.
not demanding processes i know but thats all she needs it for, video out would be handy if she wants to watch it on our living room tv but that important as long as the rest works.
i am stuck which tablet to get her,its going to be an eBay job, just confused oin what to get. i would lean towards the samsung (because of my phone n how good that is, at the moment) and HP touchpad kinda puts me off because of the bad experiance i have had wiht the onda and because the touchpad wasnt designed to run android. just a little careful after what i have been through witht he onda
thanks in advance

The omap in the tab 2 while clocked lower is still much faster than the touchpads cpu. Its also very similar to the galaxy nexus which makes it easy to port ROMs to. I have used cm9 on both. Its much smoother on the tab 2 than on the touchpad. Cm10 is also officially supported on the tab 2?

I was looking at getting a Google Nexus 7 but then noticed the Galaxy tab with the £50 cashback offer which pretty much puts it in the same price range. As I definitely prefer the bigger size of the screen it seems a no brainer to go with the Galaxy but was wondering if anyone knows any other reason why its not that simple.
I know the Galaxy is dated but from my somewhat limited play with it at my local Tesco it seems an awesome little machine.
Any experienced user opinions from you knowledgeable bunch of chaps would be greatly appreciated.

Go with the nexus 7. Fast updates, fast processor, great battery life, awesome portability, and it's newer.

If u want the best 10 inch in my opinion its the nexus10 and there's no comparison between them
But between the nexus 7 and galaxy tab 10.1 2 besides the screen deference and the cameras the nexus7 is absolutely better and faster and yes the performance is noticeably better on the nexus7 not to mention the software update support for the nexus7 which is abviously also better
Its quad core for the nexus 7 and an old dual core for the galaxy
Oh well I've bought the Samsung now, lol
Thanks for the advice though. It doesn't seem too slow really and I don't think I could have managed with that small a screen. Suppose it would have been nice to have one lighter though, oh well.
Thanks again anyway
