Unlock withoit losing data - Motorola Photon 4G

Noob question but is there anyway I can unlock my phone without wiping all the data off?
Sent from my Motorola Electrify using XDA App

You could root first then use titanium backup to save everything (apps, bookmarks) then go about unlocking. You will have to enter your emails, logins, etc but the data from all apps can be restored again.
Please read more into the unlock process as I believe its tied to the radio so you may lose 4G. I believe there's a way to still keep 4G but I'm not taking that chance. Good luck

Help please with data connection issues

I have a rooted vibrant running stock Tom with the j16 update and my 3g works intermittently at best. Is there any fix I can do myself?? Its understandable if I were in a cave but I'm getting full bars and my signal strength is -89 dbm 12 Asus. Please please anyone. I'm almost to the point where I'm about to call T-Mobile and see if they can switch me out a different phone. I hate the idea of paying for the web and nit being able to use it. BTW, if I pull my battery off and restart the data connection will work for about 10 mibs

I'm interested to see the answer/suggestions as well, I've been having the same issue.
It will work then not, a restart or going into flight mode and back will get it working for awhile. It does it over Wi-Fi too..(Sound familiar?)........... It's done it stock, rooted with OCLF, with ji6 and now even with Bionix 1.9
Yeah I mean my wifi works all the time but now even when I do the airplane mode it doesn't bring back my 3g data connection. Its driving me bat **** tho. How about u?

How good it the 3G coverage in your area?
Try a market app called Map Viewer. At home I'm out of 3G coverage.
OK I will try to download it and let you know

Do a factory data reset.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
well I found out from the map that my 3g coverage system work is supposedly non existence. Go figure. So I'm basically getting snippets of it. If I do a factory reset I will lose all my info right? And when you say reset do u mean using Odin and flashing stock 2.1?

Do it from the phone settings, privacy. Yes, u will loose all yr apps, but save them using appsaver from android market first. Your new rom update will still be there. Hope this helps. Thats what I did to correct my 3g issue, just like what you described.

thank u I will try that

just throwing this idea out there. tmobile could be doing tower work in your area. i experienced this for awhile where data was just iffy and wasnt very reliable. this may happen on and off for a few days.

[Q] can I restore backup on new phone?

I'm getting a replacement Tbolt and I was wondering if, after I make a backup on this phone, I could restore that backup on the new phone? This would be after I re-root and whatnot of course.
I would just use this SD card to restore from

Anyone?

i would say you should be able to since you can on the OG droid... but... not sure if anything is different with HTC
I just did. As long as your using your original SD card on your replacement.

Yeah you should be able to just fine. I haven't done it, but I cant think of any reason it wouldn't work. Of course, I'm assuming you talking about a full backup with ClockworkMod Recovery.

Getting rid of phone process

Since I don't use this phone for data and only for wifi how do I get rid of the android phone process? I'm running cyanogenmod 7.1
I would just put it in airplane mode and use Titanium Backup to freeze any phone related process.
I have a script that you can use to turn off the radios. Think of it as turning your phone into an iPod. I can send it to you if you are interested.
I should add that I did not write the script. It was another xda member but I do not remember his name.

After flashing a ROM do you need to reactivate service?

Just ordered my DNA. Where I live the closest Verizon radio tower is about an hour round trip drive. It's the only way I can activate devices. On my X2 I could flash to my heart's content and it would keep my activation, however if I sbf'd (Motorola's version of ruu) I would lose activation. Luckily I could just bypass it, root and flash an activated backup, then continue to flash whatever.
So before I start going flash happy I was hoping someone can fill me in. Do you have to reactivate after flashing a ROM? If I restore an activated backup will it "reactivate"? Is there a way to bypass the activation prompt?
Thanks in advance.

If you are just flashing a room then you have nothing to worry about

Awesome, how about after unlocking?
Edit: I went ahead and unlocked, no problems. I did not have to reactivate.

No 3g with Ting.

New Photon owner.
Struggling with using it on Ting. Ting itself seems great. After changing MIN and MDN, I have WiFi, text, voice and 4g. No 3g however.
I've rooted and debloated. If I use the droidx bootstrap recovery it won't boot and I have to start from a complete sbf restore (198.7). If I unlock the boot loader I lose 4g, so I then have no data, but still have WiFi, text and voice.
Anyone successfully using Ting with 3g?
Aloha.

No reason to unlock no ICS video drivers. I've been on sprint now ting. Non 4g speed is dead slow.
Put stock on my Photon Q for testing, saw 3g icon.
I'll fire up the MoPho and check.

Well, I'd like to change ROMs. Without data, I'm stuck with stock, and the deblur script has broken contacts app.
I'd really like to move to the hybrid ROM, but once installed, if I relock the boot loader it hangs. So no data or no function. I'm looking for any way out of the deadlock.
Aloha.

I haven't used Ting but I activated a Photon on PlatinumTel CDMA by doing a ##72786# network reset.
When the phone restarted after the reset Hands Free Activation ran and it set up 3G, voice and SMS automatically. It should work the same on any Sprint MVNO
You need to be on a stock ROM for Hands Free to run. Once activated you can switch to a different ROM but you will lose WiMAX when you unlock.
Yeah. Stock rom just hangs on connecting to network screen. It's already registered on Ting, so it never connects.
Aloha. Thanks for trying to help. I'm thinking I'll restore to stock and sell it.

update prl & profile
I switched to Ting. The data speeds are slow. But I found that disabling Sprint's proxies and doing periodic prl updates and profile updates greatly improve 3g speed. Yes, I get 3g yet it feels like 2g sometimes. I found my phone seems to lose data all together sometimes and I have to update profile and prl to even get any data. Kinda sucks but spending $40/month on Ting for 2 phones (Note 2 & S3) is way cheaper than spending $160/mon on Sprint. What's nice is I still get to use Sprint's crappy network. lol
I use ting and had the same problems, after the third call to them. I got an email asking me to let them know when I got home. Woke the next morning, to find my phone in the settings menu? and every thing has worked great ever senses. Don't know if they remoted in or not?
