I'm currently on EB01, voodoo undervolt kernel from imnuts07, and I'm quite liking it... but I'm slightly bothered by the severe drop-off in theme creation lately, because the Fascinate is, well, old. I hopped on the Fascinate train reeeeeal late and will have it for a while still... I've heard good things about CM 6.2.0 and CM7 (the ones JT put out, because he loves us all), especially involving themes, should I switch? I never use camcorder or BT calling, and only rarely use MMS; but is it worth the whole backup-wipe-restore pain in the ass?
Sorry for the wall of text. I worry quite a bit about my phone, but have a huge interest in moving it forward. Hell, I don't really have any problems with Touchwiz, but Cyanogenmod just seems kinda, I dunno... badass, or something.
Suggestions please?

Well, if you really want themes. Hop on CM7 and basically you can flash any CM7theme on http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=527
or wait couple weeks or months(depends on source drop) for better CM7.
Huh. That's actually really cool. Other than the few broken things and the amass of themes, is it that much different from what I have now?
there are dozens of themes available for froyo....you could flash 1 a day and it would take weeks to get through all of them
i dont see how this phone can be accused of having a lack of themes at all

I'm... not complaining? I love the theme I'm on, I just love switching constantly, so should I go to CM? Yeah, screw it, gonna try CM6.2.0.

CM6.2.0 has less problems than CM7, but "if" you want themes go for CM7. But I preferably say CM6.2.0 is better for now.

well it slowed relative to how it was after froyo dropped as we had to report themes daily so for a month or two tons of stuff came out
but relative to the thunderbolt which is new...we still have just as many themes coming out....to each his own in preference
but one doesnt need 3 new themes a day
personally i used to port a lot of themes but as a grew as a themer i started getting into doing a better job and putting in more detail so things take longer...also i dont use others original work anymore....so im not putting out 2-3 a week anymore
Alright, not hopping after all, as after looking, the majority of those themes are for CM7, and Fascinate's CM7 is so broken....
I'm loving cm6...best performance to date by far...haven't even thought about jumping to cm7
**Rockin jt's CM6**
But how many themes are for CM6.2.0?
With all the personalization options...I don't need a theme. You can change items in the notification bar and colors of all texts and background colors. All built in

If YouTube worked, I'll be all over CM7.
Sent from a Limited Edition phone from a Premium app..
Yes, I've found out the hard way that even trying bt on cm7 forced a battery pull, so it's definitely not for everyone at this point. But it is _awesome_ to be running a usable gingerbread rom that I can build myself! (i love you jt)
cm6.2 is definitely more stable but exchange push issues led me to give cm7 a try. So far no exchange issues with cm7 but I won't know for sure until monday...
btw I noticed that cm6 had perfect audio on a2dp vs stock eb01 that was glitching on me at least every 15 min w/pandora.
noobidity update:
neglected wiping dalvik cache on first flashing which caused several issues that I wrongly attributed to cm7. A2DP _does_ work on cm7.

Also USB mass storage. Grr. And I seem to use MMS a lot...
I've Tried both CM's and While the Themes of CM7 out Pace CM6.2 in style,
knowing that I couldn't use as a daily driver, is what made me go back to CM6.2(even though it has somethings that still don't work as well),
My 2Cents
I'm running the DB Gingermix and loving it, but I would like to find some custom battery icons and reception bar icons to put into my notification bar. I would imagine its like flashing any zip file from recovery? download the zip file, put into SD root, then flash from recovery and reboot?
I'd like to second this request. I'm running Gingeritis 1.0 FINAL and I'm looking to add a circle battery indicator with percentage in the middle. I tried to install the one from Das BAMF. It did change the icon properly, but also caused battery charging and longevity problems. When I restored, these resolved.
Any help for this?
I'm waiting for this as well.

Because we obviously dont know what the next step is or where we should be looking, which is why I asked. If I knew what to search for or what steps to take, I wouldn't have asked nor would have 2 others. next time maybe you could say...."check out UOT kitchen, you may find what your looking for there. hope that helps."

thanks for the advice on UOT kitchen, I appreciate the direction because I didn't know any better.
UOT kitchen is great but it's not letting me mod the battery on Das BAMF Beta 6
This ROM is called NiteUI and, as far as I can tell, it seems to be a mix between the Windows Phone 7 UI and Android. It seems interesting to say the least. Has anyone tried it and, if so, what do you think of it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1247796
That isn't a rom, it is a theme.
Wow. I feel like an idiot now. But, before I ask to have this thread closed, the i777 should be able to use this theme since, according to the guide, it doesn't require flashing?
As far as I can tell all of the theme can be used on ours except the status bar will require some work on your end to replace the images and icons as it is a dark theme for miui, unless you know smali it's gonna take some time to get the icons moved to the opposite side of the status bar.
It seems like getting this look would take a lot of work. And, really, I don't think it would be worth it seeing as there's a possibly we could have a functional version of CM9 by the beginning of March. I think I'll just pass on this and Hellraise VillainRom, which I've been meaning to try for sometime now. But thank you for the help anyways!
Hi all
I'm hoping for some help from some of the many experts on here. You'll notice this is my first ever post, I have however been using the XDA site/ apk for over a year so do not just ask questions without searching properly first.
Anyway, my brand new, shiny, beautiful S3 is currently rocking RGUI's from (v.4) I have to say, I've owned a modded S and S2 and tried many different roms, this is by far the best I have ever had running on a phone. It's near enough perfect!
There is just a couple of minor things I'd love to change but don't know how. These being the WiFi and signal notifications in the status bar (they're currently blue, I'd like them white like the clock) and the date colour (same again) in the drop down.
I normally use rom toolbox for this kind of thing and it's always worked perfectly. I've been trying with this rom and it will not change.
Any advice would be very much appreciated to make this amazing rom and phone perfect!
Cheers,
Danny

See my thread in the Dev section for downloads and Instructions: [ROM][AOKP][PORT] AOKP for the DX2 and the MX2 [8/4/12]
I have been working on an AOKP port for the Droid X2 and the Milestone X2. It's a port of the milestone 6 AOKP build available for the Atrix 4G (made by Th3Bill), using DzK's CM9 Alpha 5 as a base. Thus far everything seems to be running smoothly. I got it to boot after probably a good half hour of playing with the resolution in an AOKP animation I found over on RootzWiki.
I ran into some problems with the phone app refusing to show up, but eventually googled it and found that it was the modded contacts apk doing it. It still has a few things I should probably iron out such as some minor graphical glitches on first boot, and the section in settings for the 4G data crashing the settings app. In my probably fifteen hours of testing this out on my MX2 I've had one random reboot, everything else seems to be about where CM9 Alpha 5 is in terms of stability.
Anyway my point in posting this is: is there anything anyone would want me to add? Like a cool wallpaper, a cool theme, or even some cool mods. For example, I personally like the soft keys with the hard keys remapped to music controls that can be found over in the dev section. That specific mod should be left out, but is there anything you've seen somewhere that's for the DX2 or the MX2 or even a universal mod that you guys think would be nifty to have preinstalled? I've seen that there's at least a nearly fully functional version of Google Now for ICS, would anyone want that added in?
Please note that I take no credit for anything used in this project. All I'm doing is combining files to make something I think will be cool. If in the future you feel the urge to praise someone, praise DzK, Th3Bill, or any of the other developers I may or may not use stuff from.
awesome, i will be watching to see how this goes. Good Luck.
I know of a feature that you could investigate. Having 1% battery increments on the battery indicator.
I'll be watching this closely, if you need a guinea pig I would be willing to help

Yeah man, I second this. Would love to see 1% increments too.
I'll see what I can do. Wasn't there something like that for blur over in the dev forum? Might have to take a look at that.
hmm...it might already be there, just need to wait for my battery percentage to drop to confirm.
Edit: Or maybe not, just played music full blast through an unpowered speaker for a good 10 minutes, didn't drop one percent. So either I'm getting incredible battery life or it's still at 10% increments...well back to work.

i believe either in the systemui.apk or framework-res.apk youll hafta set it up to show battery increments of 1%, but i couldnt tell you if its within either of those or another apk. youll hafta google it.
Wait what is this about 4G data? The DX2 doesn't have 4G because it doesn't have the hardware for 4G.
The atrix has 4G. I think he is talking about a problem with the port because of that.
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, the Atrix has 4G and the settings for it show up here but do not work because we do not have 4G.
In the way of the 1% battery I think I got it (at least while not charging), but I can't check yet because I tried to just replace framework-res.apk and it didn't like it when I renamed the old one before copying over the new one...so sbf'ing now and will check after I flash my updated zip.
Okay, I got 1% battery working, as long as it's left on the default battery icon option in settings.
On a slightly different note why does this forum have a requirement of 10 posts before you can post external links? I still need four posts before I can post links to this thing.
Well I want a download link so reply to all of my post, or go to general hangout bs thread and post about your day. Lol

I may not be able to post a link yet but there's now a wholesome copy/past-able link-substitute in the OP.
Downloading now will flash and report later.
Do I need to flash ics gapps with this?
I hope this doesn't kill my phone.

You do need to flash the ICS GApps.
Oh and forgot to mention you should wipe /data, /cache, and /system and dalvik-cache prior to flashing, and wipe dalvik and fix permissions after the flash as well. I'm not sure if those last two are necessary but I always do it out of habit from my old phone and I'm not sure if that was affecting the generally good results I was having.
Thanks, I usually wipe the big three anyways. What does fix permissions do? It won't hurt anything if I do it, even though I might not need to?

Fix permissions shouldn't hurt anything. If you running some special mod that requires special permissions in /system than it can mess with that mod but other than that I have never heard of it causing problems.
(Here you go, get one more post in) What are the advantages of AOKP opposed to say CM9 or even MIUI?
Edit: and if this is even semi stable and working shouldn't it be moved on over to And Dev section?

AOKP is actually very similar to CM9, based on it in fact, the major difference there is that AOKP has a few more customization options in it. It has a whole section in settings called "ROM Control" through which you can change a whole slew of things. Most of those things are related to the interface but there are a couple of sections with some cool performance tweaks, like you can set custom values for the sd card speed tweak, you can have it zip-align unaligned apk's at boot, fix permissions at boot and other things. AOKP also has some other performance tweaks set up that are integrated into the system.
MIUI I haven't actually used on this phone, or ever on ICS, but as I understand it MIUI is more about looks and being able to theme it than it is about performance. AOKP and CM9 are more centered around providing great performance with an interface that is simple and clean. MIUI is much more flashy. It's also much easier to theme MIUI than it is to theme CM9 or AOKP. Or so I've heard I've never actually tried theming it.
The only reason I didn't put this in the Dev forum was because it required 10 posts to put up a new thread in there. Actually, I think this post gives me that 10 posts. Should I go ahead and put a thread up in there with instructions, links and all that?
Edit: Meant to ask another question, has anyone tried my DX2 version, I only have an MX2 and have only tested that. Would like to know if the DX2 version works.
Very in depth answer, thank you. But yes, I would move it over to dev and let some more people. Im away this weekend but if no x2 users have tried this by mon or tue ill give it a go.
Edit:Nope I thought about it and I don't know about posting again over in dev, they might get on you for double posting. I'd contact a mod and ask them to move it for you and rename it. Just my opinion.
