I just droped it! - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok my atrix just slid off my leg and hit the concrete now the screen is busted its unlocked and rooted but I still have insurance on it
The screen is only cracked on the lower leftside along the home buttons and stops before the search button still works ok just
Wondering if its better for me to replace the screen myself or take my chances and send it in on insureance
Im running cm7 Gina reflash something close to stock so it looks stock EXept for the unlocked on the 1rst screen

Hey,
Is everything still working on it? Only thing is the cracked screen? Then follow this:
EZ FIX:
1. Use Fruit Cakes or Pudding to go back to stock build.
2. Find your nearest At&t Device Support Center. (Don't worry the Atrix is always in stock there, scroll to the bottom of the page where it says step 3, find your state, a pdf will open with a list of DSC's in that state...)
3. Take it there and get it replaced!

Yes I'm on AT&T AND every thing still works fine just that its cracked down by the 4 little squares over past the home button but they all still work just looks ugly now problem is its unlocked and rooted if I take it in I might get some greef about that stuff from at&t
But I gess that's what all the warnings were about

Don't look all glum.... You can flash your phone back to stock and re-lock it again, it'll be like you never unlocked or flashed it. Search it up, there's a guide out there!

Ok cool lol yep I'm pretty bummed that the gorrilaz in the glass lost the battle lol i found out that i can get a replacement touch screen cheeper than what at&t is gona charge me so ima going that route

It's just advertising, I never believe any of that crap they say about taking hits an not cracking!

I'm not too sure what droping a phone means... Someone care to elaborate?

No just suggesting to proof read, instead of making yourself look like the idiot. Little tip for ya! And good luck with the phone. Next time get a Otterbox case. Have been using them for years and they have saved my phones plenty of times. Even dropped a iPhone from 15 feet onto concrete and it was perfectly fine.

soke it in water and claim you dropped it in a puddle on a rainy day or something to that effect, now screen is broke and it will not turn on......problem solved.

He explained it pretty well, plus half the people here have horrible spelling and grammar! And yes the Otterbox case is a phone-saver! When I went with my cousin while she was getting her iPhone 4, the salesman threw his iPhone 4 across the store to get them to buy an Otterbox case!

ditto the ditto Got scared yesterday though. When the Red ring started to peel away. went back to sprint he said do you want a new one? Reply. You can't just give me a back cover? Sorry but 3D camera works great both in good focus, I have the White whites. runs flawlessly. so no unless I can hand select my new one No... Long story short. he walks in back teck hands him a new back out the door I went.
Mine rubs great. Camera switcher button thing a bit loose....but so is the 5 different display models I have seen.
I might have to exchange mine though... Mine is starting to do some freaky things with my widgets and a hard reset didn't fix the problem... I'm scared to trade it in though because it is perfect!
Edit: well it was perfect.

First phone's battery was exteremly hot, to the point where I couldn't even hold it without discomfort.
Second and current phone keeps rebooting and turning off randomly. I also noticed today that the screen dims in and out regardless of battery level.
Going to exchange on Monday. Hopefully the whole local sprint store's stock isn't all messed up. If replacement doesn't work for me then I will probably sit on my upgrade for a bit.
I've not had any reason to replace this. I doubt I will have to take it back more than my epic. 8 times.

The screen seems to dim randomly because you probably have Auto Brightness on.
Why would you return your phone because it lags a bit when you scroll in a list? Rediculous.
Edit: My phone ran perfectly from the box. Now I'm running it soft root and overclocked to 1.8 GHZ and it hasn't even flinched.
Too bad our phones are put together by poor underpaid workers in Asia. Otherwise, our experiences would have been a lot more similar. :/
From my 3VO
Wierd
My phone was absolutely perfect, but lately when I call my parents in Chicago they can't hear me -- keep breaking up -- as I travel 270 South from Olive to 255 and Telegraph in St. Louis, MO. Now today I charged it fully overnight, used it maybe 30 minutes total today, and when I went on my next break, it was HOT and DEAD! This is making me mad! I will try the charger to see if just dead battery or if entire unit is dead, but this light usage is unacceptable to me with a full charge even if the battery just died.
On my 2nd e3d. As soon as it got put in my hands on launch day at radio shack I looked the screen over and had a pixel out. I have come to expect this from now on, as my launch day vizio 50 inch (on my 4th one now), htc touch, eVo, and eVo 3d all had this problem. Sucks but I wasn't even pissed about the 3d cause I knew it was gonna happen. This e3d is perfect though.
Swyped from my eVo 3d
On second on here, first wouldn't reboot only power off.
Sent from my PG86100
On my 2nd - first one froze with a weird white line down the right side of the screen. Wouldn't power up or down, couldnt get into recovery. Sprint customer service was sweet though, they gave me a new one on the spot.

Blown Earpiece I think

I think my EarPiece is blown. Severe low volume suddenly.
BT and SpeakerPhone works fine.
I have restored a backup from a month ago and it still is very low.
Since it's otherwise perfect and older HBoot I think it would be better to repair myself.
Before I rip it apart is there anything else I can check?
Is there a possible corruption on the Radio Side that the Backup would not have restored.
Has anyone else done this repair?
Thanks

That's the old issue of people not happy with the "Working" Volume.
Volume was fine since I got it.
Suddenly it dropped like 90%. I read one post that it happened in the middle of a call for someone.

I didn't want to get a Refurb. Which is what you'll likely get. I've read too many horror stories on those.
The part is only $10.00 and it does not look too bad to change.
You only need to go up where he folds the motherboard back before he starts disconnecting screen.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-3d-take-apart-repair-guide.html
Then do this.

I had mine go out and honestly as long as you pay attention to replace it with the tabs (you'll see) going the right direction, it couldn't be easier to replace. Good luck.

Agreed with this
Its fairly simple to replace the earpiece infact it just sits in a slot and once you put on the board for the front facing camera it makes contact with it. screw it down and your done.
Dont worry about pulling the mother board back, as long as you take out the ribbons connected to the side of it (i cant remember but think theres 4 or 3) pull the mother board back and disconnect the 2 ribbons and a black wire.
Good luck

Yep... this is the problem I have as well... and is the prime example of how HTC quality has been crap for years now. I had this problem in the OG EVO as well. This is another reason why I am making the switch to Samsung as soon as they drop the SGS3 on us.
I had this exact same problem 2 weeks ago. Tried all the software hacks in the book to no avail, it's almost definitely your hardware. Sprint told me I could bring it in and they would replace the part for $35 (I don't have a protection plan). They said it would take them about an hour. HTC said I could send it to them and one of two things would happen: They would crack it open, determine it wasn't my fault, fix it, and mail it back free of charge OR they would crack it open, determine that it WAS my fault and either send it back still broke for $35 (inspection fee) or send it back fixed for "$60+". Either way HTC would have my phone for 6-8 business days. In the end, I bought the part off ebay for $7 and did it myself. It's really not too bad as long as you're careful with the motherboard portion if the disassemble. My speaker works flawlessly now. Good luck!

Assuming the battery is still alive -- this (along with the standard have you tried calling it) is a brilliant plan.
My guess however is that it's a two year old. It's stuffed somewhere in the house (check the toy box because kids put everything BUT the toys in there).
Down the drain? It's not like you lost it outside
I'm praying that it wasn't placed in the garbage can!!!
That's pretty funny. Hope you find it. I like the install an app from the web store option to find it
My cat occasionally sits directly on top of my phone when alarms go off. It's surprisingly effective at muffling the sound. I've set my phone down on a bed and then forgot about it and couldn't hear it when calling to find it, until I threw the cat off. She hates phones.

With cerberus (assuming the phone was on) you could get GPS location to know for sure. You could even snap a picture from the front or back camera and have it sent to your email. Cerebus is the best app I have on my phone.

If the kid took it, I'm sure the GPS would show the house, but not exactly where in it
I mean if the kid is not old enough to tell you where the phone is then they shouldn't have left the house alone
And why wonder? Just check the trash. It might be dirty but so what?

It's surprising the amount of places a small kid can hide things. I know they don't seem to be smart enough.. but when you find your keys jammed half-way into the floor vent in their room, you have to wonder.
I'm sure I believe this story but...
Tell her to call daddy and pick up your house phone. She'll go get yours to call you.
This reminds me of a similar experience. In my case the remote of the blu-ray player was missing. We founded it after a year, our son have put in our floor-standing tower woofer firing port. I remember shaking the damn thing, but since it has insulation in it i could not hear any rattling. One day i lifted the speaker for whatever reason and the remote fell off of the woofer port.
I know it is not helpful, but felt the need to share the story ... I guess you should look at some unusual places ...

Smashed screen, new phone Wed, hope I can still root it!

On the way out to dance class tonight, I dropped my phone on the concrete and the screen smashed! Fortunately I have TEP and so a new phone should be on it's way to me tomorrow (which I should receive on Wednesday). Hopefully though the new OTA update won't automatically be pushed to my phone during the initial setup process if it's not on there already. I'll be screwed if I can't at least get Titanium Backup back on there to restore everything!
So does anyone know for sure what the issue is like with new phones that you're just getting in the last few days? Do they already have the latest OTA and hboot, or does the setup process try to push that updates automatically? Anything I need to be aware of to keep that from happening?
PS - also does anyone know if I need to hide any evidence of rooting and s-off when using TEP? Isn't it only HTC and possibly Sprint who care about that? I still plan to wipe the data but just wondering how deep I have to go to hide my rooting activities on my sad phone (image attached). I was Root (zedomax) with S-Off.

I say you have a 99.9% chance that it will NOT have the OTA update. They are not going to push it out to the stock they have now. It will be some time before the refurbs get the OTA update as part of the process.

I haven't taken the TPU Case off the back yet so I can't check. Didn't plan on doing that until I have my replacement in hand since the rest of the glass will probably crack and fall out once I start jostling it around a bit. As of right now, it still runs so I can view my texts and stuff that come in (though I'm getting little slivers of glass everywhere aack!)

Yup. The rep I spoke with at Asurion when I filed my claim quoted me $100. Though later when I looked through the info at their phoneclaim.com web site, it shows this phone at $150. So I'm gonna pretend I didn't see the latter, and if my Sprint bill shows a charge higher than $100 I'll call 'em on it! (I only paid $119 for this phone originally through the Wirefly Friends and Family Deal so I hate to think I'd have to pay more for it 2nd time around.)

I didn't realize that htcdev unlock was still an option with the latest update, and I don't see it on the list over at htcdev.com right now anyway.
However, the least I want to be able to do is get root access back on my new phone when it gets here. I don't need an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF, at least not right away, and I'm using stock everything else. So I just need to be able to install and use certain apps which require root, primary of which is Titanium.
ETA - nvm on the what i wrote in the first paragraph. I see that they're using "other supported devices" and it still works properly.

Did your screen hit something on the way down? There's no way for the screen to hit the ground directly with the case on. If that's the result of just the force of impact on the case, then that really sucks and I'll need order a OBox Commuter like I had on the 3D. Would be a shame because I'm loving the look and feel of the Diztronic.

Nope, it didn't fall or bump into anything on the way down. Matter of fact, I didn't even notice it bounce off the sides or anything, it just fell flat face down onto my concrete patio while I was walking to the garage.
Given that cement is much less forgiving than pavement, wood, or other surfaces, and the fact that it fell out of my hand from about 3 feet off the ground, we can definitely surmise that the screen on this phone will not survive a 3 foot drop onto concrete.
Fortunately replacing the screen ourselves on this phone is childs play compared to replacing it on the OG Evo.

Broke screen"fixed now"

So my 3 week old ultra that i am so carefully with screen cracked putting the phone in my pocket tonight i am so sad and angry how can the screen be that easy to break wtf.

This one is almost dead center cracked and touch is gone so its pretty much dead which puts me out a phone for looks to be 3 weeks.
you must be one fat ass (seriously)
I've put my ultra in back ass pockets dozen of times, sitting on hardwood chairs, sofas to carpet and the worst thing that may have happened it that I've bent the frame. but i twist it back to normal
same goes for other pockets.

kinda of a **** reply but nope and far from it, yea i am 6'3 but not fat lol. It was in pocket for just long enough to make it to my car was shocked it was broke.
I stood on mine, spider webbed the whole screen. Thankfully my phone company offered insurance it cost $50 excess to repair. They are pretty easy to crack though. It's the only worry I have and the reason I pay $8/month to insure it. First phone I bothered to do that with. Still have a spider webbed semi-functioning HTC One X that will never get repaired due to cost.
I won't like the OP as that seems wrong - we need a sympathy button..
Update to this sent phone off to Sony they covered it under warranty I just got it back no charge and brand and looking band new again. I was shocked when it just showed up lol.

Do you have the number you used to call Sony? I am in a similar situation. Phone was in my pocket and cracked. Is there a repair center I can call? When you contacted them what did you tell them? that it was in your pocket and it cracked?

They've told me that either they fix it or they call me. So I'm hoping for the same that happened to you - no call. ☺

thanks!! Also was your device unlocked and rooted when you sent it? I know Sony is cool with us unlocking the bootloader and all, but I am wondering if I should try and put back to stock before I ship back.

Also did you guys ship back in the original box or just a nice secured package? I have the original box, but worried if I ship it off I won't get the original back.

Okay thanks. I think I am going to just pack it in a small box with a lot of bubble wrap. I don't want to risk losing my original box. Just wondering as well how they will ship it back. lol. I went through this process with ASUS with my Nexus 7 once. Seems like it might be the same way. Ship the phone off, told will get contacted, hear nothing for 4 weeks or so, have phone shipped back completely fixed with no charge.
