As I recall Android 2.3 isn't built to fully utilize a dual core processor. Was thinking about this the other day at work. Is it possible that this phone we are as all so impressed with while running stock really a sleeping giant? ICS is supposed to have hardware acceleration, no? The next six months are going to interesting in our development section, that's for sure.

while the Rezound is the best phone on the market right now, it is in fact a "sleeping giant" as we wait for either an ICS update or S-OFF.
In its current state, its not too different then an overclocked Thunderbolt(performance-wise).... but if course, because of the OS limitations.
if you are set on getting a new phone right now though, defenitely get it. if you can wait a bit, then hold off until the quads come out.
Oh I got mine the week it came out. Amazon got my two cents!! (quite literally).

Supposedly an announcement from HTC at MWC which begins in February. I would be shocked if we actually had units for sale before the Summer in the US.

It wouldn't surprise me if achieving S-Off is easier when ICS pops up. Think of all the new holes that will be exploitable! To be honest, I think waiting for ICS is better than waiting for S-Off right now. If HTC keeps to their word it shouldn't be too long before we see it. Not only that, if we achieve S-Off right now people are not going to want to upgrade to ICS until it is rooted again, lol.

Once you have S-Off it is EXTREMELY easy to root an update from HTC. Literally you just run the zip through a rom kitchen that stuff can be added. When we got the 2.2 Froyo RUU as our updated for the Desire I dumped and rooted it for myself very quickly.
2.2 to 2.3 isn't as big of a leap as 2.3 to 4.x

Unless someone actually knows about the kind of impacts this will have on rooting future builds if S-OFF were achieved prior, I'd say its too early to tell either way. But I'm an htc noob, what do I know?
Either way, Not working on S-off would be silly I mean the people working on it are at the very least attempting something. You can learn a lot by getting really analytical and say comparing other devices and the methods used on them for similarities, for example. This knowledge will not only further their understanding if the task at hand, but it may also come in handy for future exploits (think ICS and beyond).
That ....and......well...we want our got dern S-OFF

You are correct GB doesn't fully utilize dual core phones. ICS does enable true hardware acceleration, GPU will start jumping in for transitions, animations etc. Atm I think GPU plays very little in those processes atm. Although I did see alot of animation/transition lag on the Gnex, but that can be due to the fact that it has a 540 in it (2007 GPU DERP). This phone will be even better even on stock sense bloated ICS.

You do notice the speed differences easily as well as the radio quality. I get like 40-50 mbps DL 8-10 mbps UL in my area, with the tbolt i was getting 20ish tops and 5-6. Transitions are not as smooth on the Tbolt compared to the Rezound. But yes everyday usage they are quite comparable since the OS/ most apps don't take advantage of the DC/GPU acceleration.

Quads are out on tablets already (Asus transformer prime). I would imagine Q3 Q4 2012, maybe Q1 Q2 2013 for phones. But TBH if all Android is going to do is bump hardware and hope it fixes the problems that in my opinion is pretty sad. There is no reason for our phones to have any lag issues or performance issue w/ the hardware we have. Flash performance is terrible, UI lag on almost every android phone I've seen when notifications play, and you're scrolling around. You can throw extra cores, more RAM, stronger GPU in but I highly doubt that's going to help. Issue is they need to properly code the damn OS and it's sad that it's taken them this long, and tbh not even sure if ICS properly addresses the issue. After watching the Gnex review on phonedog it was quite disappointing. I hope Google tries to step up polish the OS and make it function properly. They also need to step up and have some form of control to end this fragmentation. Like Netflix HD would be amazing on this device, yet it's only certified for OMAP 4+ devices :/. Hope ICS really does unify them all.
How is it sad it has taken so long for Google to produce 3 operating systems in the same year? You are making some VERY bold statements dude, and if you are so pissed off with Android go get yourself an iPhone. Google got into the game late, and is now dominating, just because they are trying to do it correctly doesn't mean they have to do it fast. You know what happens when they rush it? People like you complain their phones suck because x, y, and z problems and they should have never released the update. See what happened when Honeycomb came out? A ****load of problems because it was a halfway point. Not to mention Google tries to make their OS compatible on the most devices possible, not just the top of the line, they cater to everyone.

Thing is they do rush it. I'm just stating it's taken them longer then necessary due to the fragmentation of the market. Yeah they might of implemented the OS' but what good will it do us if it takes the manufacturer/carrier ages to push them out? I'm not going with iOS because frankly it bores me, I'm not PISSED with Android, just had higher expectations for it. I'm not complaining about about my phone just giving some feedback. Last time I checked this is what the forums were for. Hopefully they figure it out and performance issues are corrected. But from looking at the reviews of the Gnex even ON the latest ICS platform There's still the lag and slow down that Android has been plagued by. The UI lag could be in the part of Google using the power 540 soc which is pretty antiquated at this point. Obviously I wouldn't of bought another Android phone if I wasn't hopeful they could correct the issues .

settle down dude. Bottom line is that while ICS looks nice, it doesn't look like it runs any better than GB on the nexus reviews I've seen. Still UI lag, still stutters at times.
Bottom line is that this is the only OS now, that can't seem to get the graphics smooth. This is what, 4 years now for android??? WP7 got that right on the first try and added the big features as the second and third iterations. Just like everything else google does, ICS is a beta product, plain and simple.
And yes, I would go back to wp7, but until it has lte, I'm here on android. And to be honest, I love the rezound, very little stutter, very little lag, and I haven't had any reboots or had to do any resets just because. But with dual core and 1gb of RAM, these things shouldn't happen.
I check my memory usage a few times a day and I never have more than 150mb of free memory. I find many apps that I have not opened that are cacheing memory in the background. This shouldn't happen. I really hope google goes to ios and wp7 type multitasking that uses save states for apps instead of running in the background.
Damn the code for Android 4.1 has already been released. Story is on the XDA portal.

Nope... if we continue to wait for the next big thing in technology, how can we ever enjoy any of it? The evolution of phones is moving very fast... as soon as you get your hands on this new 1.4 ghz phone they will be releasing notes on the even newer 2ghz phone of the future.... I am excited to get my hands on this device and will hold on to it until my next upgrade is available, gives me something to look forward to without having to focus on each new thing out there!

I can agree that if we just keep waiting for the "NEXT BIG THING," we'll never really get a chance to enjoy what's now. Think of it this way, you have a phone that's less than a week old, so you're doing pretty good. Will this phone last for a while? Sure, I think it will. But this is coming from me, who just upgraded from a HERO. So, I think I can hold onto this phone until my next upgrade (1 year from June 24th.)

I can say quite positively that you added nothing to this post, and only took away from it. Maybe it was not "smart" or "high quality", but you just decreased the intelligent level of the conversation. Thank you for that.
I agree with everyone. I am not a tech junkie, I don't have to have the best of the best. I am a graduate student in neurology. I also have a lot a bit of experience in computer programming. I actually used my Org Evo to interface with research equipment and analysis data. Well the software we use continues to advance and demands better phones. So I am just trying to future proof myself in that area. I am trying to make sure the phone's hardware is all that it is suppose to be. If my original evo was up to par, I would still be using that.
I believe that it is. I honestly believe, based off an in depth talk with a gentleman whose entire career is based on developing microchips like the one we see in our phones. He is adamant that the newest generation of qualcomm (spelling) processors are the best he has seen in a phone this far.
Anyway, that combined with the reputation HTC has, the 3vo seems like a great bet.
lol, this is the age old question for tech Buy something that just came out, or wait for something better coming out later
If you go with the attitude to wait, then why not wait forever and get nothing I mean lets say you hold off on the EVO-3D, and wait for the slightly better Galaxy S2, but don't get that the Nexus-4.0 will be even better than the Galaxy S2, but wait, the Nexus-4.0 will be trumped by the best yet Galaxy S3 due next spring per Samsung, but wait the Galaxy S3 will be outdone by the EVO-Three.
What if while waiting for the next best thing, you get killed in a car wreck tomorrow, thus never enjoying the cool tech we have right here, right now.
Oh yeah, the words "Future Proof" lol uh no such thing...
To the OP -
What people have said in this thread makes perfect sense. If you wait for THOSE phones there will be even better ones around the corner in the future too. So you would simply be right back in the same situation.
I can see the 3vo being the 2nd legit 22 month phone. the og Evo being the 1st.
Like others have said you can't keep waiting or you'll never get. As for a 1.4 dual. Meh what's it really going to do that your 1.2's can't do? well outside of increase your penis size in a pissing match. Heck thats about all the quad cores are going to do too.
phones are advancing too fast. there is hardly anything out there that will take full advantage of the dual core phones. i think getting the 3vo would be fine because it will take a bit before developers catch up with it and by then you'll be due for an upgrade.

Yeah the QHD screen, the better form factor on the body of the phone, double the ram, 4 times the internal storage (this will matter a lot more when we have root and custom roms), the actual camera button, the newer build, second microphone for noise cancelling. You're right the Evo 4G had all of those.
only thing thats making me more and more want to return the phone is..
its not that I don't believe HTC will unlock the phone...

Me?Look at my signature. My device can surely mean serious competition to the iPhone!
No **** it got hammered. If a device was released close to 6 months after another one I would expect the newer device to be better. If it was close or worse than then SGS2 then crApple would really have dropped the ball on that one.
The OS are different...the SGS2 is more than fast enough for all application...basically there is nothing it can do but fast...4S is good but the SGS2 can do everything it does...dont see the issue...bench is bench, two totally different OS no doubt...

That's not what these marks underline, it's the way a lower specced system with a higher specced os comes on top. Remember last Tuesday? Everyone said the I4S is nowhere near SGS2. Why? Based on pure hardware. Would you expect an HTC or SE with the same specs as I4S and Android to get these marks?
I certainly hope Google optimise the &^%* out of IceCream or whatever system comes next, or this is the beginning of their downfall. They have been proved wrong with fragmentation of the OS and apps and now with their pumping of the hardware specs to compensate OS lackings.

+1 who realistically takes benchmarks seriously, even worse anyone who does and threatens to sell their SGSII and buy an iPhone4S just because the benchmark is higher
If the SGS2 didn't get hammered, then Moore's Law not longer applies. Nothing to see here.
Notice how in the first browser benchmark the Galaxy Tab 8.1 comes rather close to the 4S and that it is also the only device running Android 3.1? There is definately a lot more room for improvement for Android... Graphics wise, not a surprising result but it looks like they've underclocked the GPU compared to the iPad 2.

ICS will be for everyone.
What happened with Honeycomb (I'm speculating) is that the Google team used one too many workaround to get it to work on the Xoom (meeting launch deadlines and all that), so it's a bit more thank wonky. So they're not releasing it.
ICS will merge the Honeycomb and the Gingerbread builds into one unified release. Probably gonna call it Android 4.0 or something.

They would literally kill themselves if they wouldn't provide it for SGS2.
CPU-wise, SGS2 and IP4S are pretty similar. However the dual core GPU of IP4S wins by a rather significant margin.
The browser performance (SunSpider and BrowserMark) is heavily dependent on the software and browser implementation. From what I've gathered, Android GingerBread has yet to utilise dual core CPUs fully, which will be rectified in Ice Cream Sandwich. I don't know if running stock unmodded ROMs produce similar results to that of the chart, but I've managed 98k BrowserMark and 2400ms SunSpider (0.9 version) scores on CM7 using the stock Android browser. Using SunSpider 0.91 (which I suspect the IP4S is based on), I've got a nice 1750ms value. A very large disparity compared to the chart.
You guys could try running the browser benchmarks yourselves and see how your devices fare. Be sure to list your ROMs and versions!
SunSpider (Use the old 0.9 version to compare with the chart as the newer 0.91 version will produce a lower value)
BrowserMark
Here's mine as above:
ROM: CM7 Nightlies 78
Browser: Stock Android Browser
SunSpider 0.9: ~2400ms
SunSpider 0.91: ~1750ms
BrowserMark: ~98k
Lol, how it's a threat in saying I'll sell my I9100. I just said what I'd do! Jeez!
Let ICS to come first for our GSII then we should talk about what it could do. Don't forget a Benchmark result means how your hardware is performing with the software. Only stupids can ignore it. It's not Quadrant that we could ignore it as it's not customized for Dual Cores.

And as the above poster said, you can't really ignore benchmarks and only refer to them only when your device has the upper hand. This is not quadrant...
It should open Google's eyes to take the necessary measures in order for it's new OS not to flop from the beginning.
...oh well.
Benchmarking and testing apples to what? lolipops or icecreams? LOL
If there is one thing to be noticed is the not the superior hardware or HOW LOUD THE FANBOYS will scream...everyone should notice how a proper coded OS behaves on decent hardware. It reflects the real Apple and how it was built by Jobs. From the secrecy to the final product. IOS5 was uber polished and hand carved to make sure it will hammer everything. And people have slept in front of an iStore and will sleep because of that. Nice design BUT exceptional dedicated OS. Apple is living off their phone line and Ipad and thay got to the top by carefully selecting hardware and amazing software for the humble user.
With Android, we have some coders building the kernel and giving it to Samsung. At Samsung they mangle with it and perhaps they say " uhm, we need more time to get it to work properly" and the design crew saves them: the thinnest device, super amoled + with macro shots, 1.2 dualcore... No add I ever saw went to say that Android is capable of taking advantage of the dual core to save battery, nope. and after 6 months and 10 million units sold, sammy can flip us the bird and move on to the next "flexible " supermega amoled. Sadly, it has came to this times when you buy an Android phone you buy the features not the OS, which should be a decisive factor.
While on Iphone/WP7 active browsing XDA forums is optional, the moment you have an Android device you're required to spend at least 4hrs weekly browsing forums trying to get your OS to work, digg up an leaked firmware that solves A but brings C issue....
I bet 100 bucks to anyone that if you can get WP7 to run on SGS2 it will shutter iPhone 4s to pieces.

Released to Galaxy Nexus middle of next month... We'll get it, 2 months after the next EVO is released...
You know, I didn't think Apple had much to be scared of.. until now. Google is innovating circles around other companies, and is making Android one cohesive experience among multiple devices and breaking consumers' images of fragmentation. This spells huge trouble for Apple which has yet to release an arguably already outdated mobile device. Playing catch-up just got a LOT harder.
As for when we'll see it, who knows. I'd be happy with even a Christmas release but not holding my breath.

Will that be the next mid range EVO (Design, Shift) or the next big dog EVO? I'm trying to make the cut off Jan 1st 2013.
I don't know if it's just me, but I had a choice to get either this phone or the galaxy nexus and I chose the EVO lte because from what I saw on the nexus forums and reviews, ICS was a little too powerful for the nexus, which causes ICS to not run as smooth as it could. On our phone, it is more powerful and can easily handle ICS. Am I off on this?

I really hope that not even a month and a half into the lifespan of our EVO LTE's that it's still considered a next-gen device!
4.1 seems to be more of an extension of 4.0, not a big jump like it was from 2.3 to 4.0. I would imagine all devices shipping with 4.0 would be able to update to 4.1 without much trouble.
If you remember, the Evo shipped with 2.1, and was updated twice. Once to 2.2, then again to 2.3. So our brand new devices should certainly be updated to at least 4.1, possibly 4.2 whenever the time comes.
What I really wish HTC would do is give us a choice when it comes time for a 4.1 update. A Sense version, or a stock Android version. How great would that be?

Well, the Galaxy Nexus is about 6 months older than the EVO 4G LTE... Specs-wise, the EVO 4G LTE was built to be faster. There should be no reason why we don't get this update. I kid when I say it'll take forever, but in all reality, it's not a full-number version release. This might be something that we see fairly soon. It's like Android 2.2 > Android 2.3.

This will never happen. Sense is HTC's bread & butter. It's the majority factor on the decision of buying the device over other devices. While it's a nice thought to think about (if you're not a Sense fanatic like myself), it's not something that we'll likely see. I myself prefer Sense over stock Android. If I want a taste of what stock Android feels like, I'll probably just buy that Nexus Tablet they announced.
Oh yeah, definitely wishful thinking. In my perfect world that would be a reality though. I'm sure that stock 4.1 will make its way to our device at some point via Cyanogen.

I personally like stock over sense but i just couldn't justify buying last years specs. Im really hoping for a solid android 4.1 stock rom in the next month.
the listing of upgrades for 4.1 aren't anything to get overly excited over, as others mentioned, it's not like going from 2.3 to 4 here, probably won't notice much difference. Just my guess
I don't know ,project butter looks smooth ,the notification stuff is great, the voice stuff .seems pretty substantial.

I gotta say it how it is. Your wasting time and energy trying to change their minds about the subject. HTC is clueless and most likely will be bought out before the end of the year. Don't fret though you have options. For one, we got some great developers here working to make honeycomb better and bring us ICS and Jelly Bean. But if you can't stand your flyer anymore and don't wanna hold out for our developers, then welcome to the era of cheap tablets! The Flyer is still worth some bucks on ebay, if you got a 32gig model with a pen you can get over 200 for it easy. And with that you could grab a Nexus 7 or Gtab2.
I know where you guys are coming from and trust me I was there too. I was looking for an affordable tablet with decent specs and passed over several other nice tablets because this was an HTC and I expected more from it. I didn't expect an ics update but I thought I'd like honeycomb more, and when I saw this tablet for $200 and honeycomb I was all about it.
We've already tried everything from spamming their Facebook page to online petitions. HTC is cleaning their slate and trying to start over with the one series. Will it work? Probably not because they are pissing off alot of customers on the process and it's too little too late for HTC. Sense 4 is a step in the right direction but it's still a far departure from stock ics and still too intrusive, and since the galaxy s3 launch you've heard very little about the one series.
Just remember you can always cut your losses and buy another tablet. That's what finally calmed me down, realizing that.

Or you can enjoy the Flyer for what it is. I'm perfectly happy with my Flyer and can see myself holding on to it for another year or so. It does what I wanted then I bought it. A year from now I'll probably start looking for something a bit faster. Let's face it: no Android update is going to put a Tegra 3 into this device. But for now, my Flyer is just great, than you very much.
Its my eBook reader. And being an HTC fanboy for so long (7 years?), I'm going to steer away from them. Google branded nexus devices are best imo, in terms of updates and such. I've bought too many devices from HTC in the past 3-4 years that have been abandoned by them just soon after release.
I like my Flyer the way it is. And it does what it's supposed to. But it doesn't change the fact that, should it be updated to ICS, it will move faster that on HC, be compatible with more apps, and all in all, be better.
To me, it's a pity it's not updated. It's not the end of the world, it's just... sad.

+1 I am in love with my flyer. I too enjoy the flyer for what it is and will be holding onto it as it does what I wanted when i bought it. the only thing I wish I had was chrome browser (hopefully will get that as soon as Lisbon is fully developed). I think I just need to stop reading posts that make me feel that I should be dissatisfied when i am in fact very satisfied. I also need to stop reading post whereas it's as if HTC owes me something more for what I purchased. well maybe they do and maybe they don't but it does get tiresome reading complaints about it when in fact either nothing is going to be done about it or the complaints are made to those who can't do anything about it. and before I get screamed on - I know that this is a forum and it's purpose is to voice your opinion as often and as loud as you want. it's just that I want people to show the flyer some love. so now that I've had my say (which is really just said tongue in cheek) I would just like to say "can't we all just get along?"
Glad you guys can because if we didn't have developers I would of sold mine after 3 months. It your choice of gigantic phone or tablet ui slower than an atari 2600. Just sayin lol.
I'll be fair in saying gingerbread isn't bad but the Google apps running in phone mode and looking hideous kill it for me
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
At any rate I'm enjoying mine now. Got mine on ioidroid senseless honeycomb, found an old version of adw ex where the tablet ui displays correctly and, I got things pretty spartan on it, and it works and its fast too. Overall for me the goal is to have an Android tablet that's fast and usable, not necessarily up to date
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
to be honest I am not happy with the lack of software updates but I have not found a replacement 7" tablet on the market that can replace my Flyer's functionality. So I may not buy another HTC device, but if I am being honest it is a featured packed device that handles nearly every task you can throw at it. Now I didnt pay full price, and I likely would be more upset if I did, but for the $299 I paid for mine it is a very nice device.

well to be honest my love for the flyer is mainly due to the devs (and I prefer honeycomb over gingerbread). but the way that I see it is to just make the best of the situation at hand. if you can move on then by all means move on. if you can't afford to then make the best of what you have. and if you are sticking around for the sake of sticking around then please don't cry along the way and bring others down. And I'm not speaking of anyone in particular, please I don't want to make any enemies here. I come here for the fun of it not to chastise anyone (if I wanted to do that I have three children) or to be chastised (I have a wife for that)
When I find a decent tablet with a phone that takes a SIM card, I'll be all over it. That Samsung looks promising but I don't know if it'll take a SIM card.
Yeah I can't complain, my flyer cost me $200, and if I had waited for the Nexus 7 I wouldn't have the money now because my wife would of spent it on something else lol. That's married life for ya. At any rate I've gotten my money's worthy out of it and I got it running pretty fast. Just sick of the recent rally to try and get ics from htc again, didn't we just go through this a couple of months ago? It's a lost cause if you really want ics you either need to cut your losses or just be patient with our developers because it's not like one person decided not to update the flyer, a board of directors and a lot of other people did, and there simply aren't enough flyer owners to have any pull with HTC anyway
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using Tapatalk 2
I like my flyer, it is great for browsing and casual computing. I love the capacity of the unit and the expandability. It does everything I need. I'm still on GB; I never thought that HC was that good for a 7 inch tablet.
It's not really designed for 7 inch tabs no doubt. Really I'd be fine with gingerbread if the Google apps were just tablet optimized. Jelly bean addresses the need for a separate tablet ui for 7 inch tabs but imo they didn't put much thinking into it as you now have 2 black bars instead of 1
Also the phone launcher just sucks imo. Should of kept the honeycomb launcher and kept the buttons where they put them but no bar just buttons.
But on that note if we can get jelly bean with virtual buttons disabled it might just be perfect for our old tablet

I don't care if HTC is going to be bought by someone, I'm going to keep trying to get the update. I might not get it, but at least they'll have to see what they've done written at their facebook pages and many more will know. Call it revenge, vendetta, whatever you want, I don't care, I own 4 Sensations too, and I've been a loyal HTC customer for years... and I have never been in this situation before. I can understand HTC not updating a device released two years ago, but the Flyer was released a year ago and ICS 6 months later.
And they're lying at us saying the tablet is optimized for Honeycomb... I don't like it when people lie to me.
Here in Europe the Flyer 3g was sold at 700€. That's 848 US $ at today's exchange rate... It's not a cheap device and it should have the update to something presented 6 months after Flyer was released. Don't you think???
I agree, my flyer cost USD 700. Not so fortunate. I really appreciate your effort.

I purchased the Flyer because of its pen functionality and what it could do out of the box. Anyone who's ever purchased an Android phone knows that most devices only see one major software update. The Flyer got Honeycomb, which was no small feat. To my knowledge, HTC was the only OEM to update a tablet from Android 2.3 to Android 3.0. For a half second, I contemplated getting the Nexus 7, but I can't bear the thought of losing my pen functionality simply to say that I have a faster tablet with the latest version of Android.
I take issue with the statement that HTC will be bought out by the end of the year. While HTC has suffered a huge loss in the past three quarters, the company's revenue and profits are still solid. If HTC were a U.S. traded company, it would rank between 150-180 in the fortune 500 list and its YTD 2012 profits would be comparable to CBS, Progressive and Sysco.
Yeah but they still are clueless at what people want. Take the one series. Where are the sd cards and removable batteries? And why does the att version have half the storage? Why does sense 4.0 still have a gingerbreadish looking notification bar? Who gives a rats ass about beats by Dre?

well, my first android phone (X10i) went from 1.6 -> 2.1 and eventually to 2.3.3 even though SE at the time was not know for their great support in regards to updating firmwares.

I think Phandroid is off base here. Jason Mackenzie's tweet mentions the T-Mobile HTC One specifically, not the DNA. Then @AndrewGriffitt asks when the DNA will get its update, and Mackenzie responds with the December time frame, but nowhere does he mention that it will be 4.3. The DNA's update is 4.2 (4.2.2?) according to what we've last heard from Verizon, and now it sounds like that update won't come till December.
Am I reading this wrong? Or should I be expecting 4.3 now?

I think @jasonmacHTC mentioned in earlier tweets that the next update for the DNA will be the 4.2 update w/ Sense 5.0. I don't think there is an ETA on the 4.3 update with Sense 5.5. I think that's HTC's plan (based on rumors I've read)....eventually, but it definitely won't be this year. This year, its all about 4.2 and Sense 5.0
Big Red
I think HTC would slap 4.3 on it today if Verizon would let them. Verizon has to add Navigator and all that other stuff. Look at the ONE. Verizon is the last to update. I've learned that updates don't come with Verizon. I don't root my phones so I just live with what I bought. If I happen to get an update then that's all the better. Verizon still lists this phone at $199. They treat it like a flip phone.
it's pretty basic really. Verizon is in the phone business, they want to sell phones and contracts. If they update our phones to the latest and greatest well then we wouldn't want to change our phones every two years. Android is basically the same across all phones minus the hardware and camera tweaks. So I'm running Sense 5 on my phone and I have access to features that are only on the HTC One like Zoe... Why would I swap my phone for a One at this point? I wouldn't.... see my point? Can't really blame Verizon for their business model. So we root and load ports and AOSP ROMs to get the latest features Verizon refuses to provide so they can make a few extra phone sales and extend some contracts.
I'm still only going to expect a 4.2/4.2.2 update with some iteration of Sense 5 by the year's end (hopefully). Until some new information comes to light anyway.
I also fully expect that to be the final OTA of any significance for this phone, knowing Verizon.

I would rather have a faster processor with more RAM than a 2 year old phone running the newest version of Android. I'll take speed over a revamped app drawer anyday. An update to Android (yipeee!) isnt going to make me want to hang on to an old phone at the rate that this cell phone technology improves. I wouldnt swap my DNA for a One either. But for a LG G2, a Note 3, a One Max, maybe!
" So we root and load ports and AOSP ROMs to get the latest features Verizon refuses to provide so they can make a few extra phone sales and extend some contracts."
Exactly. It's Verizon's genius business model that fuels all of this, or a lot of it anyway.

But even the technology spread to the phones you mention are not that far off the hardware we already have. I think we will start to see a small plateau on hardware improvement for a little while until new architecture comes out like 64bit processors (like the iPhone 5s) So at this point software and camera features will start to be the real selling point for phones

I see what your saying. I guess I just miss the days when every year you could look forward to something new. That and I've always been the type of person that wants the latest and greatest, within reason of course, not one of these I-sheep standing in line for a new I-phone, or paying too much as a early adopter. Lol.
When my Droid X's contract was up last October, it seemed like a dinosaur in comparison to what was out, the S3 being the cream at the time. Then when I heard about the DNA I was hyped. 1080p, wireless charging, great processor, etc. I got it for $120 online and was happy as heck. Still seems quick and the video looks superb.
