Get a tablet now or wait for kal el+? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Well my moms buying me a tablet for my birthday/Christmas present and idk if I should get this one I have it preordered on newegg but idk convince me please

I say you should wait for Wayne.
What can kal-el+ bring that you missing in Prime?
When it's come to electronic there are always better things around the corner. If you want a tablet now you buy Prime.

I figured as much!
Yeah then later i will get a new phone as i have an upgrade waiting im just waiting for sprint to release new phones!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

I'd say get the prime and sit on it for 2 years till 2014. That's when the latest ultimate Nvidia chipset will be released called Stark. Even more powerful than Wayne. Nvidia showed there future chart of chips and officially announced the Stark chip. It comes after Wayne. It's said it will be 100x more powerful than Tegra 2. They said that's the equivalent to having 4 Pc cores over clocked to 3.5GHz or faster. Now that's the power I want n will wait for once I get my hands on a prime. I believe in the apple gpu is better thread there is a link someone(jeewong) posted to this info Nvidia revealed. Nvidia has big plans to take over high powered mobile chipsets. Can't wait to see what the future will bring.

There's no real point in waiting for Kal-El+ if you ask me. This time next year, the Cortex A15 processors will drop by, bringing out-of-order execution and ARM's bigLITTLE technology (which uses low power A7 cores much like Nvidia's companion core, but a more sophisticated implementation). After that, processors based on the 64-bit ARMv8 will arrive (my guess is that Stark will be ARMv8, but it's just a guess).
New tech will arrive all the time. If you need a tablet now, buy it now.

i think you should wait
until i get my prime, and then you can order one for yourself.
but as with all tech, there's always something better on the horizon, you need to find something you like, and bite the bullet and enjoy it at some point, and so far the prime looks to be a great tablet.

It's worth $400 tops, as it has only minor improvements over the NI Adam or Viewsonic gTablet both of which are around $375.
The only way I could see the Xoom close to $500 would be IF it had a Pixel Qi LCD which would put it in the ballpark of the NI Adam w/PQ LCD.
NONE of these tablets really should be going for more than $500. You can get a more expensive to manufacture w/better featured netbook for c. $350.
Anyways at this point I'd just wait(unless you absolutely need it right now) for Kal El Tegra tablets to start showing up... quad core cortex-a9 (w/NEON now) and a improved GPU(bah! they still didn't go unified shaders!).
At least $539 would be less egregiously overpriced than the Samsung Galaxy Tab, although that's about the best I can say for that price and those specs...
it is not a big news

The only problem with waiting is that there is ALWAYS something bigger and better around the corner. At some point you have to just jump in and get something.
I don't know if $539 is too out of line compared to something like the iPad 2 WiFi only model at $499. Although if I could dual boot an iPad2 between iOS and Honeycomb, I would probably get that. LOL
Do I need it? Nah... (see post on some other thread) but I would like something a little more responsive than the 101. I mean it's an awesome tablet as-is, but still...

For $500 I'd still have to say only a Pixel Qi display would make it worth it. iPad2 is still overpriced, as Apple products ALWAYS are for what you get so it's not much of a pricing measuring stick. Personally I think that c. $300 is a fairer price point for most of the Tegra 2 tablets, but it looks for the moment that producers are attempting to cash in on the lukewarm tablet "mania", but I expect that more realistic prices will eventually appear. (Was kind of sad to see even ASUS & MSI cashing in with their pricing as well since they're usually much more reasonable in their pricing...)
As to faster: yep Tegra 2 is no doubt snappier than aany cortex-a8 that I've used, but I'm not so sure that it'll be as much as you expect or worth it.
As to waiting for something: not true IMO. It's looking at the moment that it will be 1+y intervals between nVidia releases and IIRC their next scheduled Tegra chip (after kal el) looks to be more desktop/server oriented. And the rest of the ARM licensee gang are just now starting to release cortex-a9 based SoCs after dragging their heels for almost 2y! (This is why I'm not planning on replacing my gtab for likely 3 or more years as by even then I'm expecting that it'll likely still at least place in the mid-range unless things change drastically or some real tablet "mania" actually appears.)
iPad2: apparently a disappointment. I've read that early benching shows not much improvement over the first one, and is speculated to again be based on cortex-a8 given this...

Kal-El soon, any thoughts?

Nvidia's Quad Core Tegra 3, dubbed "Kal-El", processor is being released sometime this fall, with Motorola likely being the first to ship out Kal-El tablets. It's supposed to be 5 times better than Tegra 2 and still be battery friendly... If you have not yet heard of it, and are still unaware of its epicness, check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBvaDtshLY8&feature=youtube_gdata_player , this is a video of a game demonstrating the awesome powers of Kal-El. It's AMAZING, and supposedly, the final production model of the chip will be some 30% faster...
C'mon technology, take a break for a bit...
So seeing that our Galaxy Tab 10.1 will soon be old news, what do you think about Kal-El?
Here we go again ...... lots of opinions on this in the TF forums.
There will always be something new around the corner and I'm not falling for the numbers game any more
first it was ghz war for processors
Then how many cores can fit on a cpu yet most software failed to take any advantage
Then cameras and the megapixel wars which went up while sensor size stayed the same and pix quality got worse
Software needs to be streamlined well before any real use advantage will be seen.
However apart from the odd game who really needs a quad core tablet, yes its nice to have but not essential
If I want to photo edit I'll use photoshop I'm my pc, if I want to video edit I'll goto the pc, if I want to watch hd video I'll do it via my media streamer
If I want to browse the web or view emails or play the odd game or watch a short film I'll use my dual core tablet or hell my single core galaxy s they both manage it extremely well.

I will wait to see what Asus and Samsung have in store before considering upgrading my galaxy tab.
I agree, there really isn't much of a point in having a quad core tablet, at least in MY opinion... It is pretty impressive though.

I'll wait until there's a fantastic price on the next-gen tablet (like the staples $100 off coupon). Once it hits the sweet spot (@$150 difference between the sale price on a next-gen and the craigslist value of my GT10), I'll buy. I'm guessing it will be around January or February. Until then, I really hope I don't have to see too many more of these threads asking if I need to upgrade already...
This soon is just too far away for me. If this soon would mean this month then i would start thinking about it.
As no manufacturer hasn't even announced any kal el tablets, it's very long wait until we see them in shops.
You'll see it first from Amazon, imho, by the end of the year.
But who cares? The heavy lifting on these devices is media and you dont need more cores for that and it'll always be handled by dedicated silicon. So what do more cores get you? Not every one faps to quadrant.
When I upgraded from the nexus one to my htc sensation i did so for the qhd display and better media and camera capabilities. Two cores, not a big deal.

Man I just bought the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and found out there is going to be a quad core cpu in a few months. Well I will definitely want this and probably sell my Tab 10.1 on craigslist for hopefully 350-400. I will wait till Samsung comes out with their Tab version on Kal-El.
im still trying to figure out how to bypass the stupid SIM activation screen on my LTE verizon tab and or root it but its a pain.
quad is nice to have... but right now even with the dual core tabs out there is hardly any apps out that take full advantage of the hardware, only few. Now we're dealing with quad when devs are just starting to focus on dual.
Quad core would be even nicer with more ram, 1GB ram still doesnt seem to cut it.

[Q] It been a few months now..

Hey guys -
Since the Prime has been out for a few months, and it seems like the unlocking tool is out. You guys think it is a good buy to pick one up? My GF has my XOOM and she uses it for school now, and it leaves me tabletless. I heard there were many issues when this device first came out, are the issues still there? Also, is there anything else in the foressable future (1-2 montsh) that will be the
"prime killer". Thanks guys.
I would say go for it. Just buy it from a store where you have a return policy so if you dont like it you can return it.

I would recommend buying one. I know lots of people have had issues but I have tested mine thoroughly, everything works as I would expect and I used it for an overseas holiday with the only issues being app specific problems. I don't think you will see the new Prime out for at least 3-4 months. The new Galaxy tab might be out sooner but that is pure speculation.
There were some people here who had problems. As usual when a new device hits the stores. Happenes to all devices, iphone, galaxy S2, Nexus... Thats how it is with our current production technology.
Most people here are very happy though, including myself. I've not had a single issue since I bought it a month ago. GPS is working, but best lock I was able to get was ~30m. No problem though because i only enabled Gps to test if it works, i will probably never enable it again ;D
Wifi/BT is perfect. The screen is beautiful, the dock is awesome, HDMI out is a blast, everything is smooth, battery life ... it just wont run out of juice man! Would buy it again any day. And with the unlocked bootloader, i'm sure everything will get even better from here on.
There will be no prime killer in next few months. Plus prime only just came out at end of December/early January. PRIME HAS NO EQUAL AND DESTROYS THE COMPETITION
In the next few months I will think so. I'll have expected Samsung to have announced their A15 cored (dual core or quad core doesn't matter, still better than quad core A9) tablets with a really beefy GPU, by then.
Moreover the ipad 3 would have come out already with quad A15 cores and an even better gpu than the sgx 543.
So yeah I'd recommend you hold out.
I will say this though. If you do hold out you're going to be missing out on a sexy tablet that transforms into a netbook.
dont be worried about all the people complaining 90% of people are happy with their prime and the 10% that arent happy with thrs just sit thr nd cry about it go for it and you wont regret it!!!!!!

that's what I was thinking... I know I could always wait for the "next best thing" and I'll always be waiting. I've had my prime for over a month now and I use it daily for school and leisure. If you're a student this device is perfect, I've had minor quirks here and there, I've only suffered two lockups/reboots, and my gps works but barely. Otherwise it blows everything else out of its sphere...I could not see myself satisfied with any other tablet at this point (I'm interested in the iPad 3 though to be honest).

Waaa? It's not even about always worrying about what's coming out in the next few months. It's about being smart and buying the next gen/this year hardware. Which is pretty much coming out next month with the ipad 3 and hopefully samsung.
As far as I am concerned quad core A9 is a technologically backwards move by nvidia. To me it's akin to buying a Intel quad core duo in this day and age.
But anyways ill stop here since I seem to be hitting a nerve here.

OK. If this is true, I will be a little unhappy. Same price for fore cores. Hardware upgrade?
Any other news on this anyone?
OK just seen another thread with similar news. Apologies...
I had the 8GB Nexus 7 and it sucked seeing it get discontinued with the 16GB getting sold for the same price... I have a feeling this will be a similar situation (if it happens anyway).
They'll have to do some serious optimising before they can fit a quad core in that can operate on max frequencies for more than 30 seconds, considering the few minutes it takes for the dual to throttle.
If they launch it in June/July I wouldn't care but for the love of god don't do it so soon! I just got mine last week!

The N10 passed through the FCC in August and was released in November. That's three months. So if it takes three months to go from "rumor" to the FCC and then another three to get in to people's hands that's six months. The N10 will have been on the market for 9+ months and at that point a refresh could be in order. There's like three different threads on Exynos Octa, N10 Rev2 and now this one. If anything new is released it's a while away so you guys can relax for a bit. If you see a newer Google 10" tablet hit the FCC, pass through Bluetooth certification, or show up in benchmark testing you can panic. But the N10's equipped with state-of-the-art components and it's highly unlikely there are any plans to replace it until the money spent on R&D and specific components for it are recouped. And anecdotally, by the traffic in this forum, it doesn't seem to be jumping off the shelves so spending more to release another high-end 10" tablet doesn't make a lot of sense. If it's not selling it's certainly not for lack of features or solid price/performance.
If they produce a faster Nexus 10, I hope that the people who paid a premium for the 32 gb version can get a cash-back sort of deal like what happened when Google and Asus upgraded the storage capacity for the Nexus 7. I'm pretty happy with my Nexus, but I still don't like the idea of losing money for not waiting.

Nexus 10 to receive major upgrade

I'm sure this news will be frustrating to hear from many Nexus 10 owners, I am still going through replacements to get a good screen without light bleed and dead pixels and then I hear about this.
Thoughts ??
The popular tablet already features a decently fast 1.7GHz dual-core Exynos processor alongside a Mali-T604 GPU. However, new rumors suggest that it will soon beef up with a quad-core processor and a brand new 8-core Mali-T678 GPU.

Very typical. The problem is the terrible source story is written like Google is going to have a girl in a bikini pop out of a cake and deliver this new device on the shelves of Walmart in a few weeks with a card in the package telling early adopters to eat crap.

^ So much this.
I used to work for Circuit City and I'd have to deal with this constantly. I was there for two years and I saw some of the same few customers two years later still "shopping" for a new TV that I saw shopping for a new TV my first month with the company. It got to the point I didn't even acknowledge them anymore and my boss didn't comprehend they were in the redundant technology chasing black hole. They'd constantly come in with notebooks (the worst customers are notebook customers) full of specs and charts and graphics and comparisons, print outs from the internet of reviews etc etc etc.. Holy crap I'm just annoyed even reminiscing about it.
I truly respect anyone who can make a living selling technology because it's one of the worst sales jobs next to selling mattresses. Which I've also done.

Not going to be that person to brave the waters of this new Nexus 10. It could prove to be disasterous. Take the Transformer Infinity for example. The Transformer Prime was great in terms of processing and smoothness, but Asus messed up the Infinity tablet to the point that it had major I/O / lag issues. I owned the Prime and not the Infinity so I'm basing the Infinity performance on what people has said in these forums.

Doesn't really matter though, both have pitiful I/O performance which has been well documented I'm only going to link a few but man LOL

More recently users have been noticing very poor performance with ASUS Android tablets whenever there's substantial background IO going on, particularly multitasking while writes are taking place (e.g. downloading a torrent and browsing the web). The slowdowns range from multi-second long pauses to sluggish response time.

Such is the technology world. Don't get to upset over rumors of a beefier n10. I'd be inclined to guess that this won't happen until late 2013, if it happens at all. If a new and amazingly better n10 comes out q4 2013, it will be very easy to sell your current n10 and grab the new one. Just my .02.... BC this is what I would do. Could Google be announcing the next Nexus 10 at Mobile World Congress?
CES 2013 has just come to an end and there are already rumors about for Mobile World Congress 2013. Among them is potential news for the next generation of Google’s Nexus 10.
Google did very well in the tablet market in 2012 by producing good tablets at a decent cost. More people could afford them and their specs helped them work well. The Nexus 10 second generation could be a lot more interesting.
The rumor comes from Theo Valich from Bright Side of News. If the rumors prove true, then the Nexus 10 second gen is going to be a beast of a tablet. At a quick glance, here are some of the rumored specs.
Mali T678 GPGPU
2GB RAM
Support for OpenCL 1.1, OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0/3.0, and Google’s Renderscript Compute
As you can see, there isn’t a lot there. However, if these rumors prove to be true, the Nexus 10 2 could be the most powerful tablet produced so far. Things like screen resolution, storage sizes, CPU, and other specs haven’t been mentioned yet, so there is still room for a pitfall or two when the final design comes out.
Are any of these Nexus 10 2 rumors true?
It’s hard to say. Theo Valich has claimed to have played with an unfinished version of the Nexus 10 2. However, the specs so far have been a mix of rumor and speculation. So, as usual, take it as it is since it is an unconfirmed rumor. It’s nice to daydream about such things. However, the 2GB of RAM should prove true as it’s the current standard for Android devices.
One thing for sure is that we’ll know more about it eventually. With Google I/O coming up soon, it’s hard to imagine Google announcing a Nexus device at another tech conference. Do you think MWC 2013 will hold some new Google magic or will Google be saving it for Google I/O? More importantly, are any of these specs believable or possible? Let us know your thoughts.
By Android Authority
What do you think? I just ordering my Nexus 10, should I cancel it? :crying:
