Let's spam HTC for locking the Rezound. - HTC Rezound

Since HTC had previously announced that they would be unlocking things with their unlock tool, we should try to hold them to their word. I know that they are just listening to Verizon on this phone, but I don't care; They lied and they should get an earful.
Go here, http://htcdev.com/contact and yell at them!
Go to their Facebook http://www.facebook.com/HTC?sk=wall and yell at them!
Who knows, maybe someone from HTC will covertly do some damage control? There must be some HTC employees out there that want unlocked phones too.

we tried doing the same thing with the Thunderbolt(even filing complaints with the FCC). it didn't do anything.

I'm sure we won't get a response, but over time, with enough phones and enough complaints, things might change. Even Motorola has publicly stated that they would re-examine their policies on locking bootloaders and I know their Facebook pages were spammed endlessly over locked bootloaders.
Also, it beats sitting around wanking about what will we will do when we finally get S-OFF.
Speaking of the FCC, we should hit them up again too.

I actually filed a complaint to the FCC and got an executive response from Verizon. Got a call from them too to "address" my concerns. Not sure if they do this with everyone (I'm pretty sure they do) but they said they were going to submit their response to the FCC. The gentleman stated that I will also be getting their response to the FCC regarding the locked bootloader. I am still awaiting to see their response.

So if a few hundred people do this, it should ruin at least one person's day.

I already sent my complaint to the FCC last month. I didn't even get a reply from them, let alone Verizon. I don't mind spamming them!

HTC's current stance on Evo 3d locked bootloader

This is an excerpt from an email conversation with HTC:
"I thank you for sending an email about unlocking the boot loader mode on the new HTC EVO 3D. I understand you would like to unlock the boot loader mode on your Android device but there has been no decision about which devices will be unlocked. I would suggest that you keep an eye on the HTC regional website at www.htc.com/US under the Home tab."

Figures. I emailed them as well, no response back yet. When I do hear from them it will probably be a generic response like the one you received.

Yes and i think it was posted on the HTC facebook page.
Just figured I would post to help make more noise about it. Noise seems to help make things happen sometimes. Other times it is just noise though.....
I had actually emailed asking for the SMART_IO.CRD file to help with some development work I didn't mention boot loaders or unlocking or rooting. Somewhat surprised at the response for their general support desk. lol

Yep.
They have about 28 days to figure it out for me. Keep lighting up their Facebook. E-mail is good, but public exposure on places like Facebook and Twitter is the best.
They are going to F everybody over with these corporate stall tactics... I'm holding off until this ***** is unlocked.

Ditto.
And in reality, I'm leaning heavily towards the Photon or SGS2 now. The SGS2 is already unlocked, and with today's news that the Atrix was unlocked via a leaked 2.3.3 upgrade and that the official 2.3.3 upgrade will be unlocked, it sounds like the Photon will probably ship unlocked as well.
I've loved HTC, but I'm not interested in dealing with a company that's openly deceptive.

When? Moto said a while back that they were going to stop locking all future phones to my knowledge.
Edit: NM, just found it. However, that just says it won't ship unlocked, and it's a month old. If the Atrix will be unlocked with their GB update, I would be surprised if the Photon doesn't follow suit very quickly... unless it's sprint who's actually pulling the strings here.
Is it a carrier branded device. ? It'll be locked.

all they stated was that it wasnt unlockable/relockable, could have a xoom style bootloader for all we know.
what moto said is that they will release software that will unlock devices later in the year. As to which specific devices will get the unlock functionality, that will be the decision of the carriers.
This was one of the major reasons I said I wasn't picking up this phone on launch day. There is no guarantee this thing will ever be unlocked, regardless of what HTC said a few weeks ago. From what I gather, they never specifically stated the Evo 3D would be unlocked, just future phones. Considering the phone was already in production when they made that statement, they might not think it's worth putting the effort to unlock it at this point.
Also, I checked out the phone at my local Sprint store and wasn't impressed at all. I'll see what the SGSII or the Photon has to offer when those are released.
Keep on the assault on facebook! The second we slow down is when they decide that eventually we will forget about it and not do anything about it.
Someone with more free time than myself should make a countdown timer to 29 days after launch and feature it in a petition to return evo 3d's if htc keeps playing the waiting game.

and also i agree everyone needs to keep the Assault on the facebook page.. maybe if enough ppl sit there and ***** they will do something about it.. cause this is some serious bull****.. the CEO wasnt the only one who said something about the unlocking of the bootloaders.. but there was a post from a HTC DEV that the EVO 3D would SHIP UNLOCKED!! so this bull**** with them saying "FUTURE DEVICES" is exactly that BULL****...
I WILL BE DOING A COUNTDOWN ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE.. SEEMS LIKE A GOOD WAY TO DO IT.. EVERYONE GETS ON FB ATLEAST ONCE A DAY SO THAT WOULD BE A GOOD WAY OF DOING IT..
hit their twitter page also.. @HTC.. i am.. looks like they more actively watch their twitter page.. been following them for days now and who ever is watching it replys to almost everyone!!. just a thought..

As much as I want to believe that HTC is going to come though, I am cautious through past experience. Companies move SLOW. Right hands don't talk to the Left Hands, and before you know it, we're in the same club as some of the Motto people. I don't want to be in that club!
I want a device where I am FREE to choose what I may do with it, warranty or not. Free to utilize the device to its FULL capability and NOT be bogged down by bulky code or bloatware.
For the clock, I've set some parameters.
Date: Set for the earliest of the 30 Day period starting June 21st, the day users were able to start ordering the phone. You may argue that it shouldn't start till the 22nd, but I've worked retail, I've seen some of the BS Reps try to pull with 30 day technicalities. The clock goes till 9pm, the bleeding edge of the return policy for brick and mortar stores.
Time Zone: Set for Eastern as this would be the time zone in the United States to be affected first.

done and done.

Why have we stopped bothering HTC?

Their is almost nothing on their facebook about the unlocked bootloader. Maybe they decided it is not worth their time since most people forgot about it already or simply do not care. We need to keep bombarding them with emails and posts just like we did when it was first announced. If HTC thinks that we have forgotten or no longer care then they might not even bother. Persistence is key!
its been done already. Trust me, if they wanna do it they will, if they go back on their word it will be a mess for them. I dont think the emails are going to do any better at this point, since they have already said it, and what more can we get from them? Now its in the hands of the decision makers as when to release it. Sending them email it probably a waste of your time and theirs, bunch of people have done and they say they will unlock it. I dont think you are going to hear anything different.
Its time for people to start actually returning their phones. Not only that, but post on FB/Twitter and tag HTC in the post.
its all about that people saw that devs here at xda are close to this, so they dont care anymore
Them not mentioning the bootloader is not a reason for everyone to just give up on the 3d. This is an extremely nice phone that hasn't been out for 2 weeks, be patient people it'll come.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I just don't think that will be especially helpful. But I dont mind posting on their fb page later today. Ill just ask for a date.
They have already stated that they will unlock the 3D but they are working out the details. It will happen but it might be another month or more before it actually happens. Emailing them isn't going to make it happen faster. And returning your phone isn't going to cause them to do anything either. We are a minority ourselves and then there is a minority of the minority that would be willing to return their phones which isn't enough volume to make HTC even blink.

what do you mean 'YOU people'???
So, what happens if I do return the Evo 3d? If I don't get another phone, and use an older phone that I have, will my upgrade status be set to a full upgrade? Or do I have to get another new phone? Will I still have a 2 year contract, or will it be reset to what it was? Just wondering, because I don't know what other phone I would get. Also If I return it now, can I buy it again at discount price once Htc unlocks it? I know there are a lot of people here who work for sprint. Also, I purchased it from RS if that makes a difference. Thanks

What do YOU mean "you people"?
Htc does not care if you return your phone. Sprint buys the phones from HTC, then sprint sells the phones with their plans. HTC has their money they already sold the phones to sprint. So if you return the phone HTC could care less its no money out of their pocket. It would be sprints loss more then anything.
Let's not forget that HTC NEVER said they would unlock the EVO 3D bootloader. They said they would change their policies on FUTURE devices. They also stated that since the EVO 3D was already far into production that their statement did not apply to the EVO 3D but that they are reviewing whether or not to unlock the bootloader for the EVO 3D.
I'm all for being patient and the phone is currently still kicking ass in spite of Sense..but...we are losing developers. Perhaps not right this second, but, with every minute that goes by we march closer and closer the the 30 day window closing more and more devs are wondering what to do, keep it or get the SGS2 which will be no problem to dev for?
It's going through nearly ever users mind (here) and probably every devs mind. HTC is dragging their heels, developers are losing interest, users are getting scared...HTC has their money, what do they care if they take 3 months? By then developer interest will be close to gone and if/when we get CM8 it will be extra buggy for us for a while...and a month or two later the next big phone I'm going to get will be announced...
I think this screen is absolutely gorgeous and going to the SGS2 would be a giant downgrade in resolution--screw the overblown colors, compare your EVO3D to your EVO4G side by side...the resolution difference will be missed...
...but, I miss theming, custom roms, custom kernels, overclocking, wifi tether, the security in having a nandroid backup, the security in knowing that if I **** something up *I* can fish around in there and fix it--which I currently lack.
I amazing devs are doing all they can, and I thank them graciously for their efforts...and perhaps HTC will unlock the phone--eventually--but will that be soon enough to save our "scene"?
After keeping an eye on the dev threads for the 3D and Sensation I see a lot of brilliant ideas being thrown around. Some seriously clever people in there...but also some very major roadblocks in this phone, all very intentionally engineered to keep us out.
I guess what I'm getting at is: What is everybody elses "worst case scenario" plan? If i bring the phone back and it gets cracked the next day I can always go buy another one. What phone will most of the user community migrate to? What of developers?
Mine is to bring back my phone on the 30th day if it is not cracked or officially unlocked. Then wait for for the SGS2...(my only concern being the crappy radio, but, the EVO3D has a pretty weak radio too). If during my wait the EVO3D is cracked or unlocked I have the option to buy that again, or even wait longer...
thoughts?

New email replies from HTC on the bootloader situation.

Came from a friend on another forum:
The bootloader will be unlocked, it's just a matter of when; we're trying to get it ready to release and hope to have this soon. Our official announcements, since this is a priority situation, will go directly to our social media outlets when they're ready (like the previous announcements). You'll hear about it when I do. I do hope that it is soon for you.

I don't see any evidence that their definition of soon matches with my definition of soon...it is a relative term, after all.
I'm going err on the side of caution, unfortunately. They have 2 weeks.
Regardless of time frame, we are all at the mercy of HTC sadly enough

Everyone is rather impatient here. I understand it, but It is not like a company can output a perfect unlocked everything for a phone overnight without bricking a large number of them. It takes time.
I apologize for the repeat thread. Half these threads present have people up in arms and intending to return the phone. So I posted a new thread in hopes of lighting up the mood.

I would imagine it has more to do with appeasing partners (read: Sprint) than it has to do with technical hurdles...though I'm sure there is still a redundantly redundant amount of testing involved. Most of it is probably policy and politics than anything else.

Thats not how they are going to do it simple as that. I asked given xHausx suggested they just post up a firmware.zip on their site for those that wish to flash and get the ENG bootloader flashed and achieve s-off. Their response was that "...that is not the way they choose to fix the problem, and they will do so with a OTA software update.."
end of story is that it WILL get done, but there is no ETA as they NEVER provide ETA's specifically. And they do this b/c there is no telling what problems might arrise while developing the fix. If they said 2weeks and ran into an issue and got delayed then there would be another uproar tossed at them.
Also why when they say they are releasing a new OS update they usually say by the end of X qtr. so they have a TON of leway.

If teamwin does it great. However I would be very surprised if there weren't strings attached to HTC's solution and no thanks to that. If the SGS2 would be announced for a pre-September release date the 3D is going back.

Well, in if that happens in 2 months from now you and the 3 remaining devs will have a blast I'm sure. This technology moves way too fast for delays like this. The first 30 days is a given, return period, time to root, etc...but this time we are up against heavy duty security for heavy duty securities sake.
While I do exaggerate a bit my point remains. We don't have time to wait as much as you think we do...developers want to develop, and when they put a commitment into a device, well, not being able to develop a god damned thing for that device is kinda a turn off. Few of our best ROM developers are also the low-level guys doing the heavy lifting and intense probing and testing required to attain root/s-off...there is an overlap, yes, but most of these guys just want to make a rom or work on a kernel, and that is to say nothing of the theme guys who operate as creative talent before technical talent...
This is an elaborate ecosystem of skills and talents here. If you happened to be one of us lucky ones in the EVO4G community from the beginning you should know that it was a bunch of coincidence and a pre-release root (and the happenstance of Sprint getting its first kickass superphone--now a regular event)...so don't expect that magic to sit around waiting for this phone to be opened up.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but that there were a lot of factors that went into it happening last time--just having a decent phone and a forum weren't what made it happen.
Let me start by saying yes, I am dying to have root myself. I miss cm7, wireless tether, even stock themes, tb, and a whole list of things (my ORD is definitely flaring).
Now let me go on to my real point. All you "omg they have two weeks" people... Is the phone really that unusable as it is? My old hero, I couldn't live without root for overclocking. My shift originally ticked me off with crappy old sense, and then I didn't understand why they didn't make the new update sense 3.0. This phone, at least for now, is up to date, and blazing fast. Root is not a deal breaker on this phone for me like my past phones. And I hack everything... Wii, cr48, router... But I don't find it completely neutering on this phone like other devices

It's a very capable phone, I agree. But it has far more potential than it has capability...and I didn't buy this phone to only be as capable as the phone it was replacing (a heavily modded EVO4G) with the only difference that I can actually see is a resolution difference.
Sure, we knew it would come locked. I knew I'd have this decision to make. It's a very capable phone. But it is also capable of so much more...that's what I want out of it. My 4G was doing everything at least as fast and with at least as good battery life with far more flexibility...
...the only reason I am so impatient is for the reason I posted above. If it doesn't happen relatively quickly the spark will fade rapidly. I feel very comfortable in the 30-day window. But as the 30 day window closes I am not going to be the only one who sizes up this situation and has to make a decision...more important than me and you and all of the other users there are the developers. The ones who provide the value-adding goodies that we love so much...without them we just have a phone like a million other phones, excuse me, that takes 3D pictures and/or Video...the only differentiating feature really....sure, HTC didn't sell a device that was intended to do the things I want to do with it--but it could...until they made it so it couldn't specifically...artificially...
You might not get it...if that's the case, congrats, this is the phone for you. No regrets. Rock on. But for me and what I would imagine are the majority of others here that is a deal breaker.....
@daneurysm: very, very well stated. I'm with you 100%

I have purchased your mogul, evo, and now evo3d. I would like to say that I love the evo3d, its an amazing device. But, if the bootloader isnt unlocked or rooted by the time my 30 days is up, I will be returning it. I feel as though I own the device, and used my hard earned money to buy it, and like a computer I should have access to it. I understand the consumer doesn't matter at all in todays corporate run world, but this is my stance, as is many others. I bought it, I own it, it is no longer yours or sprints as I'm not leasing it, I own it, its mine. Thanks, maybe.

I certainly understand that you're looking for the bootloader of the EVO 3D to be unlocked. This is indeed something that we're working on, true to our word. We don't have a date set yet for when the update to do so will be available, but as this is a high priority situation when there is news on the subject it will be posted to our social media outlets, like our Facebook and our Twitter just as the previous announcement was. I hope that it is soon.

Droid RAZR Dev Edition - no unlock!

Wow! Check out this thread on the MotoDev forums:

Apparently, a person got the Droid RAZR Dev Edition and when he tried to unlock it, it states the unlocking of the bootloader has been disabled!!!
Calling into support yields him no help other than to post into the dev forums. Doing that, he gets a response that they are in the process of updating their files to allow this.
Wow, Motorola. Way to screw the pooch AND your customers. That settles it. I'm done with them.

As much as I enjoy Moto's hardware it isn't special enough to deal with all the headache. I'll probably go with a Samsung phone next time, support a company that Apple can't stand lol. Thanks for this post iBolsky, it's sad how pathetic Motorola handles their business. It isn't that hard to understand, we want to unlock our bootloaders, warranty or not. A child can understand that, why not a multi billion dollar corporation?

In this case, I was telling people how I filed a complaint against Motorola and that others should do the same if they felt that Motorola had resorted to bad business tactics.
Oh well...

Yeah, but it's there in black and white about condoning any type of action against Motorola or it's employees. So, I did agree to their terms and conditions when I created my account, so I can't fight it.
No big loss to me. I won't be having a Moto device for much longer hopefully. At least, the X2 will be my FINAL device from them. That might be why they aren't responding to my requests in my current open support ticket.
The silence speaks louder than words. They just don't care about customers, or at least, me. That's fine with me. My business will go elsewhere and hopefully, others will follow suite. Of course, just watch. Now they'll try to bring a lawsuit against me for defaming them or causing them to lose business. Pfft!
after their bullshyt response to my email, i finally said screw them and used my upgrade for the samsung galaxy nexus. i've had it for a week and i'm giddy like a school kid. it's exactly the same environment that i had when i first got my og droid. unlocked and full of developers, mods, tweaks and roms. with my next upgrade in a few months, i'll be getting an htc phone for my wife to replace her x2. then i can happily proclaim i am a moto free household. i hope they fail miserably. any company willing to constantly screw over their customers deserves no business.

I found out I have an early upgrade promotion with $100 off a 4g phone so I'm thinking of getting the Rezound for 99.00. Its unlocked now and will be getting ICS. I actually really like my X2 but the locked bootloader is a killer. The biggest thing for me though is the 3g network optimization. I went from 3mg connection to 700kbs average. I like to use the phone for many multimedia purposes and Netflix and a slow connection don't mix.

are we all really that surprised it can't be unlocked right out the box??

That's the entire purpose of the phone though, so many other phones that aren't designed for development can be unlocked, and the one phone Moto says will be unlocked, still isn't. Maybe they will release an unlocked ota or tool like they have for htc or will for transformer prime, but people bought the phone with the promise of it being an unlocked phone. Maybe it is too much to ask to be unlockable out of the box, I don't really know, but Moto to me is some sneaky weirdo selling stuff out of a trench coat saying "this is what you want" but when you get home, you realize they've pulled a fast one. They ignore constant, multiple petitions, emails, pleads, and plain begging, and I for one would rather them just say, no we won't be unlocking the bootloader rather than have them pretend that it isnt an issue. They release these vague statments and make it seem like they want to unlock bootloaders, and place the blame elsewhere, but they are just as guilty as the carriers of denying the end user the rights to the phone that WE HAVE PURCHASED.
Sorry for the rant, Moto just frustrates me to no end.
And in no way was I trying to attack your statement Ash lol. Just throwing in my opinion.

For what it's worth, they re-instated my account. Here was my response to my getting locked out:
I've read the forum rules and I understand what I have done to violate them. However, I still feel strongly about what Motorola has done in regards to the unlocking of bootloaders.
I understand you are a moderator and you have rules you must ensure are being followed, and I hold no grudge against you or the other mods. But, I do have an issue with Motorola and their apparent lack of supporting us the customers.
In any case, I will refrain from any more postings about the BBB and leave that to other avenues that I have. I just feel that we as customers have a right to know why Motorola has completely ignored our requests on the status of the unlocked boot loaders which has never been honored except with the release of a new phone that is supposed to have an unlockable bootloader. However, reports are that even this phone, Droid RAZR Developer Edition, can't be unlocked right now. This just isn't good customer relations.
All we as customers are asking for is a status on where this situation stands, but we get nothing from Motorola.or from any of the avenues we have to express our issues, whether it be the support portal, this forum or twitter.
I do apologize for violating the rules of this forum and I will refrain from doing so in the future.
I will leave it up to you as to whether you wish to unlock my account or not and I will abide by whatever decision you make.
Sincerely,
Ivan Samuelson

Same here, unless they unlock their bootloaders for the X2 and other phones. Otherwise, I'm done.

Motorola can't unlock bootloaders

Okay I just sat on hold with Motorola Android Support for 45 minutes and came back with the following info that the rep got for me while on hold.
Motorola is NOT currently in talks to unlock ANY android smartphones on any carriers.
Motorola does not plan on unlocking its bootloaders any time in the future due to "security" resasons.
AFTER telling me that, he told me that Motorola is only responisble for the HARDWARE of the phone and that ALL software for it is created by Google and if we want unlocked bootloaders we need to petition GOOGLE, not Motorola... Currently calling Google.....
Google doesn't have live phone support....wtf
Emailing them I guess

I will back you up 100% on this because I'm sick of being pushed around by Verizon and I really want to switch my carrier but ofcourse motorola has to stick it to me. Any reply from google yet?
No. The best thing I can seem to do is post a question on "google groups" / Google Mobile Help Forum....
I don't have time to sit here and write an essay, so I'll ask you guys to do it for me. Let's all come up with a well thought out, well rounded informative post for them to read. Save the questions for the conclusion.
I also think we should all post these questions, email them, just plain old flood them with a ridiculous amount of bootloader unlock requests. Let them know we want to be on the same level of development that samsung and htc owners are on. They have to give in sooner or later, don't they? We should probably also pass this info around to other motorola forums and get them in on the fun. A small group of users from one specific model probably won't convince them to budge

the bootloader is part of the hardware, so petitioning google isnt going to do anything, you guys need to keep up with moto-rizon, not google
Call Moto then. The rep told me they had nothing do with unlocking them. I asked him specifically to repeat himself after he told me Motorola "couldn't unlock bootloaders if they wanted to"
I told him it was the coding of the phones partitions that were made by Motorola. He told me I was mistaken and Google would have to unlock the bootloader. It's up to Google, not Motorola. He made that more than clear. I'll try calling back later & record the call for you to hear.

google is all for unlocked bootloaders & development from 3rd party, so imho moto is feeding you bull****, bro
No need to get that way, thanks.
Respectfully, how do you know that? What are your sources? I'd like to be informed as possible on the subject, so please, enlighten me.
Edit: Motorola was recently acquired by Google, so... wouldn't they have a say? At the very least...

bro, no disrespect and sorry if I made it seem that way. Google has acquired Motorola, but they're keeping their noses out of that. they just purchased Motorola for their patents.
and sorry I don't really have any sources right now, but let me see if I can look up some after work or in the next few days.
Hopefully someone'll come in here and see that and then back me up or you, I could be totally wrong, but this is what I read from other members in this forum, also I've read it on twitter through the major android forums and such.
Google doesn't control bootloaders its that simple. Bootloader is controlled by the manufacturer and or provider. Samsung and HTC have allowed unlocked bootloaders for various devices this should disprove the moto rep. You should look outside this forum for info and should never listen to a phone jockey who gets paid to make moto look good.

It's great that their techs are so informed.
What actually happens is Motorola gets a copy of Android, loads it up with terrible code, then slaps it on the phone.

That's a bunch of bulls***. Google may continue the overall development of the Android platform, but each device-specific build is entirely the responsibility of the manufacturer. The bootloader isn't even a part of Android! All you got from that talk was Motorola trying to get you to quit bothering them. Verizon and Motorola are the two parties we need to talk to.

Seriously, why the hell are "they" putting up such a fight!!!! We are completely aware that we fully void our warranty when we do stuff like this. Just give us the damn unlock code and send it out with an agreement that we acknowledge what we are doing with our phones. They will make many many happy people and maybe even keep us as Motorola consumers. But as many others have said...this will more than likely be my LAST Motorola device.

It's likely that it has more to do with forcing people to use the moto/verizon software. Don't listen to any of the reasons they give.

Moto can unlock bootloaders. Don't believe their garbage. Google has absolutely nothing to do with this. You either spoke to a misinformed employee who really shouldn't be spreading false information or they just don't want to be bothered with the bootloader thing. I've stated before in other threads that moto has a terrible business ethic, all I've heard from them are lies if you even hear from them at all. I won't be supporting their company in the future by purchasing moto products. I've had a very disappointing experience with this phone and the lack of support that moto and Verizon have given. I've had this phone for a year now and I'm still stuck with it until February. Frankly, that's depressing to think about. It's unfortunate that moto deals with their customers this way. If it weren't for the consumer buying their products their company obviously wouldn't exist. Why wouldn't they listen to customer concerns instead of acting like a two year old and ignoring every one of is. I guess what I'm getting at is that given the information we need to make a decision about whether or not this company is worth supporting or even worth the time petitioning when they won't budge for customer interest.

Google doesnt control all the software for all devices. Theres a reason why Motorola has blur, HTC has sense and Samsung has touchwiz. Each company takes the open source software made by Google and makes it their own. Just like how all our ROMs are built. Developers take whats already made and tweak it. The only Android Software that is all Google is the phone they first release with the latest software on it, which has been the nexus series. Google doesnt control how the phones are made or how the software is developed for it. The locked bootloader is all motorola and verizons fault.

It is a blame game dude... I tried the lot Refer to one of my old threads in this section, about filing a BBB complaint against Moto. I called Verizon, and they said that they have nothing to do with the software and that it is something Motorola has to deal with. Then, I called Motorola, and they said that they have no intentions of doing any unlocking and I think they also put blame on the carrier, saying that if carrier permits, they will do so... And I believe I was answered by the Motorola Corporate Office and so what I was told must be authoritative... If not, then Moto is a ****ty AND shady company that you would rather not do business with...
And as far as I know and can tell, Google has nothing to do with anything here... It is either Motorola OR Verizon's fault. And I believe they are just making you run around like nuts... My advice (sadly) is to man up, ditch the Motorola phone as soon as you can, financially AND then flip 'em off for satisfaction (may be email customer support, or they call center and rant saying how they lost another customer) and never look behind. I AM NOT joking... This is possibly the fastest and best way you can move on to a better phone. There is no point trying to do anything with Motorola as of now...
One of the XDA members told me something that made the most sense... Moto manufactures their phones with the bootloader locked, and so no service provider will willfully ask them to remove said "protection" and so, the whole unlocking conversation never occurs and so the bootloader remains locked. Moto also obviously doesn't push for it... I don't remember the whole argument, but it made sense then. I'll update this when I find that post or recollect the argument... Bottom line, you are going to waste a lot of time, just like I did...
