Not sounding very credible there.
Their source, Digitalversus, said this. Not really showing the source of the info. Could be a clueless call center drone for all we know...
The Prime will apparently ship with Android 3.2 but Asus says that an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should be released in January 2012, not long after the product itself hits the high street.

I stop reading at 3.2 Gingerbread. Come on, if you can't get version right. Then your story is not credible.
Assuming it ships before January
So when I first turn my Prime on and it cuddles with WiFi, the first thing it's going to do is to phone home and tell me there's an important update that needs to be installed?
I can live with that.

The OP's link is via Tech Radar
Tech Radar is sourcing Digital Versus, so this sounds like a repost not something they verified.
Tech Radar even states as much
We're not massively familiar with Digital Versus but since Google's already released the ICS code to manufacturers and Asus is holding the Transformer Prime up as the bastion of Android tablets, January 2012 seems like a sensible guestimate for the tablet to receive the update.

I have been following the Prime's release since i first heard of it and never saw anything related. It was said it COULD be the first 4.0 tablet, but wasn't clear, it was only said because 4.0 was to be released before the tablet itself was going to be released, so it was an option, and it was to be SHOWN on nov, never read released on nov aside from just a few rumours.
It was also said, and this seemed like a more confirmed thing that ICS would come by the end of the year, but i guess that with the possible wifi issue, they will have preferred to try it out on every model and every production batch. I prefer them testing it before actually releasing it Anyway, ICS has been released for little time, so the engineers probably have had a really short time to study the code and push their updates. And for a matter of fact, most people are getting the tablet in january or even later, so it's still possible for us to get the tablet with the ICS update ready.

Gingerbread released December 6 2010
CyanogenMod 7.0 released April 10 2011

I personally wouldn't be surprised to see it within 2 months, but that may be partially wishful thinking.
Andy Ruben has just said in the post announcement interview that ICS updates should be a couple of weeks after the Gnexus release. However I personally wouldn't hold your breath as Samsung won't want to effect sales of their flagship phone

What I mean is:
Google and Samsung will want everyone to buy the Galaxy Nexus the new flagship phone with a higher price as this will be in direct competition withe the iPhone 4GS. However why will people buy this when they can buy the still excellent, but cheaper Samsung Galaxy S2 if it has the latest update.
Personally I won't buy the GNexus as I'm very happy with the SGS2 and I can't afford the upgrade. So all I can hope is that someone will port the ROM
People will get upset if they buy phones that dont stay up to date.
But yeh, wait for them to profit off the Gnex for a bit.

There will always be something bigger and better. For what it's worth, you can always upgrade your unbranded phone manually to something newer than 2.3.4.
I don't know how many that buys for example an SGS2 are "hardcore" users and just "plain" users (i.e only does the official updates via Kies etc).

This isn't something specific about Android, this is a generalization about all technology and perhaps most all retail items. You must be from another planet.
The Toshiba Excite. OMAP is better than Teg2 but other than being the thinnest tablet, especially with ports, it's pretty ordinary.
http://www.toshiba.ca/web/link?id=4740#1
Before the original Transformer was announced, I was pretty set on getting the Toshiba Thrive. And then the release kept getting pushed back and back without explanation (hmm, sounds familiar) and I ended up getting the TF101 instead.
Yesterday, I saw a Thrive at my local Best Buy for the first time, and was instantly glad I didn't buy one; it was enormous.
Anyway, good to see the new one won't be so ungainly.

Yes... which is why I went on to say, "I expect Asus to update it with ICS before that point too. I may end up being disappointed. . ."
I still don't understand why you would call something which hasn't been released yet the first anything. Even if it releases February 1, there's still a month and a half between then and now and no reason to expect it will take longer than that for Asus to put out ICS for the Prime.

You guys are so torqued by the potential for a delay and other stuff that I think you've lost your senses of humor. Asus has said all along they want to be the first with ICS. If you weren't so overly sensitive you'd look at what I posted as good news. It means that to beat Toshiba, Asus will probably have ICS out before February.

Maybe they will recall all of them in two weeks, and give us something that works a little smoother, and a tablet with glass that does not break while docked, this would be nice.
Will never happen. Have you seen new article on XDA portal? Regarding win8 tablets being locked down to allow ONLY win8 to boot. Mind you, if they base win8 tablet on TFP, we might get tablet analog of htc hd2.

While windows 8 on prime is not coming officially I can say for near sure, office will be built for Windows on arm for 100% sure. There is no way whatsoever they would leave it out. It is their flagship product and they know very well the only way they will stand a chance in the tablet market is to get office and other desktop like software running on their os.
I also say update to ICS 4.0.4
I'd say ICS update and new 3.0 kernel update. maybe Asus will unlock some of the ICS features found in the phones on our tablet like FaceUnlock, wifi direct transfer, and maybe 5Ghz wifi N band(we currently only have 2.5Ghz N band enabled.
I know one of the ultimate things would be allowing users to unlock without voiding warranty. or at least fully unlocking allowing NVflash and fastboot. I have some other great guesses but I won't mention them. Ill let it be a surprise

Lets just wait. April should be a good one. Dont count your chickens till the eggs are hatched. If there isnt a fix by April, suck for the people with problems. If there is a fix good for them.
Hope that exciting news will make consumers that are having problems with their primes happy and not just an award that the TF201 has has received. It doesnt really suggest anything: I guess we just have to wait in two week if its really exciting or not.

that wouldn't be news as we've already heard about that for a little while now. there's a few threads on it. I think its too early to jump to a whole new version now. ICS still brand new. Android needs to catch everyone up to ICS before updating to next version. fragmentation needs to be minimized as much as possible.

No, razr is the best phone I could have compare to my other Android devices, and I very happy with my razr.
The big disappointed I got, came from Motorola's developers and service.
And, no... Ios is bad, has no many options, the system designed for little kids/not intelligent people/lazy hoes/people who can't handle complicated os and etc.

I'm assuming RAZR will get it, it is still one of the most up to date phones motorola have on offer.
Based on the ICS release I'd guess we get it rolling out about the same time the Nexus devices get Kola Kubes.
Hopefully at the same time motorola initially promise to keep the bootloader locked then decide to change their mind, completely ignore the promise and do the opposite.

I don't really have much faith in Motorola updating our devices anytime soon. They're failing to meet their own release schedules for ICS so I don't see how they will have JB out anytime soon.
I was looking for a decent tablet and hoping to get a Prime but the Nexus 7 hits the price point perfectly so I ordered a 16gb one. Hopefully there isn't an issue with Google's release/shipping date so I can enjoy JB faster.
Considering how long it took them to push ICS I seriously doubt we will ever get and official Jelly Bean OTA update. Knowing Verizon they are probably going to EOL the RAZR/MAXX not long after the RAZR HD gets released. Constantly releasing new phones brings them more money... not supporting phones they have out already. The devs on the other hand will probably have one out soon.

Releasing it the at the end of June is pretty far from their promise. And when other manufactures release ICS for their phones isn't relevant. This is about Motorola. So yes I have little faith in Motorola. If they had stated that ICS would be released for the RAZR in mid-2012 from the beginning I wouldn't complain. But that isn't what they promised.

They never promised they'd release it within 6 weeks, they promised that they'd release a list of devices that would get ICS. The Q2 release date was the only promise they ever made on it, and they've held to that for Verizon. On GSM, I'm not surprised they've pushed it back, because apparently there are some issues in this OTA and I'm sure they want to fix them up a bit, and then they'll push that update out as the first release for GSM users and a minor update for Verizon users. It probably won't that GSM users are waiting until the end of Q3 for ICS, it will probably be pretty soon.

If you READ what that infamous tweet said, they promised to release DEVICES for ICS. This means devices that meet the hardware requirements for ICS. They in no WAY promised ICS in 6 weeks and there is no way you can twist those tweets to mean that.
Waiting for ICS was horrible. I literally checked for updates every day before I threw in my towel and flashed the LATAM ICS ROM (and loving it).
If the RAZR isn't going to get the support it deserves, would you guys contemplate say, selling your device and getting an HTC One X/Galaxy SIII?
I mean, our devices are still new and can fetch a hefty sum...
Looks like the XOOM gets the update before we do. Again.

I'm kinda surprised the Verizon version doesn't get it first. I mean people paid a ****load of money for the 3G/4G version they should get JB before or at the same time as the wi-fi Xoom. Of course this is probably due to it being on a carrier and having restrictions.
Either way, it took me awhile to realize that since I had unlocked my bootloader I wasn't going to get any updates from Asus. This is fine since the dev community will put a fully functional JB ROM out before Asus will have it for the Prime I bet (if it hasn't already happened).
The xoom will always get updates first, along with the nexus 7.
It was a google reference device and essentially the first nexus tablet in a way.
Now if Acer or Lenovo or someone else get it before Asus, then dangit asus.
They didnt beat anyone..lol all they did was announce their device will recieve it. just like aSus did.
P.s. whose to say jb on prime isn't already in testing?
isnt the Xoom the nexus device for honeycomb? afaik it is a google experience device so it will likely get it first.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
WiFi Xoom is a GED device, its a given it'll get updates first.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

You're such a tease.
google does own motorola
Additionally, this forum is NOT a place to complain about Asus practices. It doesn't add anything to the forum. If you are really that displeased with your Transformer Prime, sell it.

People like you should stay off the Internet. You'll have an early heart attack.
Plus I've been running the team eos build of JB on the prime, and it already seems to operate better then their same ICS build.
It's quite nice and will only get better.

same here, it gets a lil better every build.
i don't think an official JB release, (which is probably some time away, knowing ASUS' support of this tablet)
is worth waiting for.

I agree with you.
Now that he has a Nexus 7 he will be all over the thread, like he uses to be
on the Prime. Lecturing, tutoring, reprimanding and lauding the Prime against all evidences.
I returned my Prime for three reasons : weakness of the wi-fi, no GPS (even if I am more than "totally satisfied" with the Galaxy Nexus), and an horrible Customer Service.
I strongly intended to buy the Infinity. But the unfixed i/o issue and the built quality (and QC) are a deterrent to me no matter what Demanderin says about Asus.
Apparently Nexus 7 has some QC problems. Not mine. I am ordering a second one this week. It will be my lab to take advantage of the works of our dedicated devs in this Forum. It is also a vote of confidence for Google products, with no bloatware ....so far and quick update releases.
I will buy the Nexus 10, just hoping it will be manufactured by Google-Motorola and not by Asus.
Google will learn from its first experience in the tablet market.
The ranters and whiners as much as the extreme lauders are blind or ignorant ( sorry for the redundancy for an ignorant is blind which is not true for a blind who can be of a superior intelligence.
See you, most of you I mean, on the Nexus 7 thread.
Good luck and good ride on your Prime and Infinity.
Not sure what the fuss is about with Moto Xoom receiving JB...
Moto Xoom is technically a "nexus" device & Google specifically said Moto Xoom will receive JB update by mid-July at Google I/O
Now... Samsung is rumored to update Samsung Galaxy SIII (SII & Galaxy Note to follow soon after) with Jellybean by Aug/Sept...
When you factor in carrier restriction, Touchwiz skin.. and etc... & if Samsung does pull it off before Asus (especially for WIFI only tablet without any carrier restriction).... well, you can start a fuss...
Edit: Speaking of which..Padfone even updated to Android 4.0.4

As I recall The Prime had ICS before the Xoom..So what do you mean again?

And that was only for a day or two (official release version)...
Along with Moto Xoom getting ICS "beta" test for few users before ICS started to roll out for Asus Transformer Prime...
Didn't the JB "soak test" for the Xoom get delayed anyway?
