I'm running blend miui on my neo (currently miui 1.12.2 i think).
I would like to go back to the stock rom (android 2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.42 is latest update, right?)
What's the best and safest way to do this? Is there a chance that I get the 0% battery problem (I think not, but just asking to be sure )?
I don't want to relock bootloader and I also want to keep root because I want to be able to change rom back to miui easily if I don't want the stock anymore
Use Wotanserver (it's free) to go to .42 or Flash Tool (see guide and file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258723)
Battery issue no problem.
For root, use Zergrush, very quick and easy.
just flash 2.3.4 Android...
2.3.2 make famous 0%..
That's what I said
It worked with wotanserver and I have root acces.
But I can't get to that screen anymore where I can flash zips? (booting and pressing volume buttons)
Because you no longer have CWM recovery. Stock is stock. It sounded like that's what you wanted.

If you want recovery on stock ROM try Inteks V15 kernel, it's in the development section.
thanks! it worked
Inteks kernel is a bit of a battery hog.. lately i'm really starting to think about going back to stock .42, maybe even .283, as it had better battery life as .42

I don't notice any extra battery drain compared to stock. Try the CPU Tuner app otherwise.

i'm using AnTuTu CPU Master, and 90% of the time it's set to 576 MHz max. battery life isn't as good as on stock anyway.

Hi, I was on Stock 2.3.3 then I flashed wolf's rom and my battery started draining :-(
Now I am back to stock via repair using PCC but the problem still persists... :-(
I need to charge two times a day if I m using my phone continuously... Previously it used to last one day...
Need suggestions on how to improve the battery.... Should I go back to 2.1 and then update it again to 2.3.3 ???
Or any other solution... I am on Stock 2.3.3 at the moment..

Calibrate it using battery calibration mate.
Fully charge and calibrate it, then use it till fully discharged, and fully charge again.

I never calibrated my battery. I guess what u missed was wiping battery stats before flashing wolf's rom. (he didnt mention this step in the installation procedure as its not mandatory) but this makes a difference I believe. I think u can have one more try. If your stock Rom is already rooted then flash wolf's rom again (or else u might have to go back to 2.1 and root it and flash wolf's rom). Now before u flashing wolf's rom, wipe ur battery stats just before selecting the custom zip (actual rom file). Good luck (PS: I'm on wolf's rom and I'm a heavy used - bluetooth head set on almost 10 - 12 hrs a day and wifi on almost 12 - 16 hrs a day and I usually gets over a day and I'm not using any custom kernels)

Just done a fresh install of wolf's rom with the latest v4.0.4 and this time I wiped everything and also formatted the system.. things appear to be fine at the moment as I have not installed any of my previous apps.. Will see how the battery operates for a few days..
I am also somehow hates the battery calibaration method it appears that it takes more from a battery then to give it lol..
I'm finally jumping off the deep end into the world of flashing my Photon for the first time!
1. Which ROM do you recommend and why?
2. Does unlocking the bootloader still kill 4G?
3. Does the CM Recovery have to be manually installed or can the ROM Manager from the Android Market be used?
4. Common problems/issues to be expected?

1. I've tried both Homebase and Alien and they are both good. Homebase has Shabby's kernal, so it will run a little faster and battery life wont be as good as with Alien.
2. Yes
3. ROM manager is still not supporting the Photon, check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250697 for step by step instructions on how to do all the flashing and unlocking. These videos helped me out a lot.
4. No problems what so ever, but i'm only speaking for myself.
Enjoy!

Thanks for your responses! Once you've flashed a new ROM, I'm assuming you have to flash back to stock to get OTA updates, right?
Which ROM are you currently running?
Which one do you ultimately prefer so far?
What advantages does it give you over running stock?
Does using something like Go Launcher EX on a custom ROM kinda defeat the purpose?

I'm currently running Alien. I like the vanilla gingerbread theme for it but for what i do i cant really tell that much of a difference between this ROM and Homebase. if you want the overclocked cpu, go with homebase. it uses Launcher Pro as an overlay but i'm assuming you can use whichever launcher you prefer. the specs for each rom are listed on their respective thread pages. some advantages are the custom kernel, wifi scan frequency for battery life, no bloatware. Its not that hard to flash ROMs with CWM once you unlock the bootloader and root, so i suggest flashing both, getting used to them, and then seeing which one you like best. i will probably go back to homebase because i like the OC kernel and they have an update that reflects the current software OTA.

Can you see a noticeable speed increase in with the OC kernel?
Does the battery gain from the wifi scan frequency balance out the battery drain from the OC kernel?
Any problems at all with the Homebase ROM other than losing 4G?
.1 Ghz isn't that big of a difference IMO plus the launcher the ROM uses is pretty fast to begin whith. you may lose probably half an hour of battery life from OCing. its a very good ROM and i havent had any problems with it.
Okay, I haven't been able to fully understand this so maybe someone can explain it:
I am using KG2 (Villian Rom). It's a Bell SGS2.
Now, I'm wondering if I can change to KI8 or something else later, or will this phone only work on KG2?
Battery right now, is 8hrs with fairly heavy use. I was expecting 10-12, and I have a feeling its the kernel + ROM. I'm thinking of going back to a rooted stock, but I need to know if I need to use KG2?
Can I change the modem/baseband/etc? I don't quite understand how the versions work.
If I can change it, what SHOULD I be running?
Edit: Take a look at the graph... Maybe with this kind of usage, almost 8hr is all I can really expect. If that's true, then maybe we can just answer the question based solely on the kernel issue. I'd still like to know, to be fair.

1. yes you can flash to KI8 if you like.
2. No, you do not need to use kG2 you can upgrade to any rom you like. Each has pros and cons that you needs to try out for yourself.
3 yes you can change the modem=baseband, firmware or kernal to any combination you like.. versions are based on the original firmware version released.
4. best for battery life so far are the latest releases Like KJ 2 or 3.
if you lower the brightness levels, you can extend the battery a little further.

There are many thread about battery life, such as => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16973603
One of the first recommendations is to flash the latest official ROM.
As I want to stay as "stock" as possible, I am running a new stock ROM (XWKJ3) and a custom kernel, which is optimized for a better battery life => SpeedMod K2-18-test8.
Here is the corresponding thread of hardcore, the developer of this kernel => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182498&highlight=Speedmod
So, I recommend to flash the latest official ROM (you can get those as non-wipe versions in Intratech's Official Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278).
Then test is as "untouched" stock ROM for performance and battery life.
If you are still not satisfied with it, then flash a custom kernel optimized for ... what you mostly want.
Good luck !

Thanks a lot. To flash the kernel, should I use ODIN or can it be done handset side? Which should I do first, kernel or ROM? Or will some of the ROMs have the kernels in? The thread has a lot of extraneous information and I can't seem to understand EXACTLY what I need to do. I've only ever done ROMS through recovery.
If I install a new kernel, it'll most likely work with the current rom (so for example, flashing a new KJ kernel, and a decent modem (is there one?) ) right? Or do I have it backwards?
I don't mind if I wipe or not, everything is in the cloud... One thing I DO notice however, is that ROMs outside of MIUI don't re-install market apps automatically. But that's something I don't mind doing, anyway.

This appen 6/7 times per day, specially when the battery isnt so mutch charged.
Any ideas of what's the problem?

Or you raccomend another kernel/rom?
Thank you for the answers, btw
do a neat flash use stock rom and ,for rooting use the cf root which is resembelent to ur kernel, rom, csc, etc and for getting rid of the traingle use the stock kernel z image an flash it(this is for gb)then u can take any custum kernel z image and push it via cwm...if ur on ics then better use a stable version instead of rc,alpha.beta..............cheeeeeeerz

Maybe you can give a try to Speedmod kernel. It's simple, fast and has good battery life!
Is there a way I can overclock my beloved x10? What are the risks in doing so?
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
use doomkernel v06 on stock rom or rom based on stock rom.... u can overclock upto 1.2ghz using inbulit app or using set cpu or antutut cpu
the risks of Overclocking are that not all devices can handle it .
and could cause sudden reboots etc when the cpu's "drowning" in data
and ofcourse battery will drain faster (not that i notice it that much)
to be honest i havent read or seen or even encountered any "real" risks can be annoying if your phone reboots but you can still undo or even try a lower OC speed.
i believe its most important factor in weither you can or cant handle is heat.
(pardon my english) a phone releases its heat passive meaning if you put it out in the sun chances on reboots will be higher.
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/mobile-phone/3255360/should-you-overclock-your-smartphone/
check this out its a good explenation i found.
I decided to try for myself and I now use DoomKernel v06 with SetCPU I don't really see a point in overclocking my phone though haha but can underclocking it have a negative effect when it's just on standby when I'm at school? And I'm not sure what governer to use hahaha

Underclocking
When phone is in standby mode it doesnt need any underclocking it goes automatically into deep sleep. This cpu mode saves lots of energy.
Most of custom kernels already handle it.

Depends on your liking. Like Battery Lifespan, performance and so on. For Knowing more about governors and their specialties,
In This Thread, it explains Things about I/O schedulers, Kernel, Governors and related information.
If DooMKernel versions for locked bootloader, i recommend 1113MHz as optimal and best for your X10 because moderate overclock, and compatible to most Custom ROMs. You can get it under my signature link.

Setcpu is to change governor and increase frequency. Yes you need. Because your original frequency is 998MHz.

Please note that DoomKernel V6 has two versions: For Locked Bootloader and Unlocked Bootloader If you're looking for locked bootloader version, i got it linked under my signature.
While DoomKernel V6 for Unlocked Bootloader, link here Place the ftf under flashtool subfolder "Firmware" to flash the kernel wifi modules can be flashed via Xrecovery (in case Wifi not working)
There're 2 ways to get back stock kernel:
1) [LOCKED BOOTLOADER] Just full wipe, clear cache partition in xrecovery will restore your Stock Kernel as long as you didn't unlock your bootloader. Note that these actions will remove all your user and system Data.
2) [UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER] Flash the Stock Kernel for Unlocked Bootloader via flashtool. Stock Kernel Link for Unlock Bootloader Here. Remember to place the stock kernel FTF file under flashtool subfolder "Firmware" to flash the stock kernel then flash the wifi modules (if wifi not working) via xrecovery

Hi,
Mine runs on 245Mhz and 1.114GHz with no negative effects. No noticeable drain on battery and no freeze effects.
When I choose 128Mhz as the lowest frequency it takes a while to get going. ie sometimes I have to press the wake button twice.
When I clock it to 1.2GHz I start to get problems with the program freezing/jamming up. Make sure you don't tick the "apply on boot" straight away until your happy with the stability of your phone.
Hope this helps.
I'm using 128/1036 Mhz. It's just that little bit extra which makes your phone super smooth and you save the extra battery life with the 128Mhz cap.
