From what you described it sounds like it's booting but not displaying anything which means it's probably a bad display.

I hope not but that was my first thought when i heard the noise. This was my Christmas gift from my girl, so it will be a real bummer if i cant get a new one by then.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Anyone else have any ideas, other than bad display.

Does your PC recognize it if you plug it in via USB? If it does, that means it booted even though you may not see it. Also, I just noticed you got it from GameStop. They pre-load games on it so it's hard to imagine they would let one out that's DOA. Maybe someone can give you the hard reset key sequence and you can restore it. You'll lose the GameStop games though.

If you pre-ordered from a store, I would call them quick and see if you have an extra you can swap for.

They only got tablet to fill pre orders for the store. The one I order from isn't even a tablet store and I was lucky they didn't cancel my order. But corporate was all up there butt and told them they shouldn't have even let me pre order.

Does the charging light come on? ? has it been all the way to green?

Yea it turns on and was green and my pc recognizes it just the screen won't turn on I guess and asus wants me to send it in, and the gamestops around don't sell tab but one and they only got enuff to fill pre order I believe.

[Q] Touchscreen Calibration?

Anyone know how to re-calibrate the touchscreen on Touchpads? 1/4 of my screen isn't responding or will be off when it does respond to input
I'd probably just suggest a hard reset on it.
Just quoting someone else on this:

Same thing happened to me. Traced it to a USB power adaptor that didn't produce enough power. Does it still have deadspots when:
a. On battery
b. On the official HP charger

Found the diagnostic test, what do you guys think?

Ah sorry, yes I've done everything.
Even did a full erase reset.
And it behaves exactly the same way on battery and on the official HP charger?

Yes, actually did first setup w/o charging it first. Noticed that left side of keyboard wasn't letting me input certain letters.
Someone had a touchscreen issues after using WebOS Doctor to restore the tablet. All I can suggest it try to reflash with Doctor and see if it helps the situation, other than that it would look like you have faulty hardware
do a firmware reflash via sd card
Are you trolling? There's no SD card on a Touchpad.
Well talked to HP, and they told me to either return it to where I bought it (Office Depot), which I promptly told em that I'm pretty sure they won't have any in stock to replace it. Or send it back for repairs, and they have to decide if it was a manufacturer defect or user damage...
So I went ahead and got a repair ticket, I'd be so pissed if they will charge me to fix it if the damage was caused by shipping & handling from the stores...
I have the exact same issue. I have opened a ticket and will send my device in for repair. Please respond on how HP handles the case.
After I chatted with support and made the ticket, they sent me an overnight UPS package box with instructions which I sent in the same day I received the box that Friday. Didn't get the e-mail stating they were sending me a box till the next Monday though after they had already received the package...
They sent the repaired Touchpad on Friday that the same week, and I scheduled to get it next Tuesday, so Overall it's been exactly 10 days since I shipped it off my Touchpad for repairs.
Everything seems to have gone very smoothly, thank god they didn't charge me.
I have the same issue that the right most part seems to be not that responsive.
The right 1/4th part of the screen seems to bit of having calibration issues. It is like the launcher icon needs to be clicked on bit left side than the actual icon to make it work.
What can i do ? Any solution ?

Glitchy screen during boot?

My new Prime's Asus logo glitches and twitches during boot. Anyone else have this? I'm worried it is a video problem!
Thanks.
this happened to me one time after the first sleep.. i held the power button down a while and also hit the volume rocket both ways.. basically button mashed while holding the power down and eventually it vibrated and turned on.. hasn't happened since.
Thanks Oasis. I was in the process of changing my post when you replied. To clarify for others, I was compaining that mine wouldn't boot, but it was simply in the dreaded sleep of death.
I'm interested in knowing whether others are seeing anything strange during boot. It looks to me like the video card is on the way out. The Asus logo moves about during boot and 'glitches' IE little flecks of random video corruption.
Thanks.

ah i see.. yea it happened the first night.. then never again.
yes, a lot of other people have mentioned the glitching of logo on boot up. doesn't seem to affect anything though. system update should take care of this.
Try not to blink so much people.
Blinking makes the Logo flicker during reboots. The Prime is just fine, check your blinkers...

Check! Rightho, I'll remember not to blink
Now the Prime is working again, but weirdly the battery is showing as 0% with a question mark next to it. And.... it has just gone into sleep once more. Aaargh. I should mention the battery was fully charged! Looks like the battery is messed up or something as the Prime asks me to plug in the charger even when it is plugged in.

give it a little to regroupitself or reboot it again to see if it clears this. is this a repaired prime sent to you or a completely new and different one?

This is the brand new, one of a kind, just released here in the UK one which arrived this morning.
I'm glad the glitching is nothing, but rebooting the Prime didn't have any affect. Battery still 0%, and the tablet doesn't realise the charger is connected still. Even did a factory reset to no avail. Ah well. They are very scarce over here and are not actually due out until the 12th so I've got a few weeks to wait before I can receive a replacement.
Mine has done this since day one. A little disconcerting...but I don't see a correlation to any other issues.

[Q] DNA won't charge/turn on

Hey guys,
I'm new to the DNA forum and I've searched through a few threads about this but I haven't been able to find much help. Here we go: so as the title states the phone won't turn on and when I put it on the charger no LED's turn on to resemble a charge at all. I've tried the power button for 20 seconds, nothing happens, I've tried the power button, volume down, and even power, volume up and down. None of these seem to give life to the phone.
This is actually my friend's old phone and he got a replacement for it already I'm just trying to see if I can get it working again. So really I have a free DNA to diagnose because Verizon doesn't want it back.
Phone wasn't rooted before it died, pure stock.
Anybody have a suggestion or path you think I should take?
Thanks ahead of time,
monkey

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you need to ask your friend for the complete story. What happened prior to the phone being bricked? Was there water damage or any other damage. Have you tried other charging cables that are known to be working and looked to make sure the pins inside the charge port have not been broken?
Sounds bricked to me. If it is bricked only way to get it working is to jtag it and send it out. It will be cheaper than paying for a new dna and if you really want it, it would run you a lot less in terms of money for a jtag repair.

Try letting it charge a full 24hrs and then see if it powers on. If that doesn't work then consider jtag
Sent from my 5 Senses of DNA
Not sure if I'll go the JTAG route or not. Like I said the phone has been replaced already it just sucks I can't take advantage of the phone. I have it sitting on the charger now, going to see if it'll work after a long period of time. There's no water damage, Verizon has checked it already.
If I would JTAG it...what would come of that. I'm not 100% familiar with JTAG, I just did a small amount of googling about it. Looks like a diagnostic procedure?

Its like a low level format that will restore to factory configuration.
It will get the phone working for a smaller coast than purchasing a new one. So you would still be taking advantage of getting a new phone. If you purchase the phone through Verizon with an upgrade you will be spending around 250$ where as opposed to getting it jtaged I believe you will only be paying 65$ (not sure about price) if you go through mobile tech.

The upgrade cost is only $99 nowadays. I just got mine Monday from Fry's Electronics for $99.99. If they didn't have it, I was going to order it from wireless [dot] amazon [dot] com for $99.99.
Interesting...I may have to go that route, I'm considering taking it apart and getting a voltage reading off the charging port. That'll at least tell me if the port is working correctly. If I go down that path I'll keep you all updated.

They must have dropped price since I got it. It was the same on Amazon and verizon when I get my dna

Greetings, I purchased a Droid DNA on craigslist and thought I had a great deal, the phone turned on, then turned off and never would take a charge again. After contacting verizon and having them tell me to return the device to the"retailer" I purchased the device from, I contacted HTC directly. HTC provided me with an amazing customer service expirence, it was weird and erie how good the service was. They gave me a ticket number number and an address to ship the device to, they didnt care where I purchased it. They day it arrived they fixed it and sent it back with a new motherboard less than 24 hours after delivery conformation. The device works perfectly.
I guess what I am getting at is if you can put the phone back together and make it look like you didnt take it apart, call HTC and create a repair order. All these devices come with at least a 1 year warranty.
I hope you get your device working regardless.
Yeah HTC support is by far the best support I have ever experienced. I felt the same way. My charger was bugging out and I called they got all my info and just said they would send a new one for free and to throw the other one out. They called me today and I missed the call but they didn't leave any message. Wondering if I should call them back or not, but oh well.

Little late on my update but I did get the phone apart and back together. I didn't see anything that stuck out, no water damage, etc.
I would contact HTC and try to get a replacement, however Verizon realized they never got the device back and well...they want it. So there goes my fun...
Thanks for all the input

same problem
I had the exact same issue (no charging no screen but capacitive touch buttons flashed) and had been playing with it trying to get my month old gold brick at this point, to rise like the Phoenix when it caught the light at just the right angle and the screen looked weird. Took a flashlight to it and the LCD is damaged but there is NO damage to the case/frame/digitizer. Been dealing with HTC for a week an probably will have to repair it myself. But heads up to anyone else with the same issue check the screen...
I am having the same problem. Any home based solutions so that i dont need to take it to either Verizon store or post it to JTAG?
Thank You

Although it may not appear to be charging let it sit for the night as it may be. Then take it off in the morning and hold the power button for 30 seconds and see if it boots. Some dna phones have issues when they die. My battery has died 4 times on me and when I plug it in the led light blinks for 2 mins and then it stays lit and charges so, just let it sit over night and try in the morning.
Report back when you have done the following.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did that whole night. The green light dint even blink for a single second. And pressing the power button does nothing. I tried plugging it into computer, computer dint even detect it. (on mac, windows 7 and linux). I tried to boot it into the bootloader mode, still no progress.
Thank You

[Q] Help! black screen with orange charge LED. can't bring screen back on

So today while i was listening to music via AmazonMP3 in my car through the radio, it was also plugged into the charger. the phone went idle and turned the screen off, nothing abnormal here, however, this time when i went to turn the screen back on it would not. music was still playing and the orange charge light was on.
This happened twice today. the first time i was able to hold down the power button and force it to reboot. the second time it won't even do that. i hold down the power or hold down power+vol down/up and nothing happens. not even the buttons flashing. i've gone to the point of holding them down for 2 mins just to see if long term holding may somehow do it.
when i got home i plugged it into the computer to see if the computer would recognize the phone and to see if i could force reboot it using ADB. the computer did not see it and i tried ADB devices and it did not see it either. i'm basically at a loss at this point and any ideas would be welcome
little about the phone

well the LED just turned of... so i went and plugged it in to see if it would come back on and boot up.

ok after letting it sit off the charger for a couple hours last night i plugged it in to start t he 24 hour charge and the charge light started flashing like it would normally to let you know of low battery. after about a minute this didn't change but i took the chance and attempted to turn it on. which it did come back on at this point. however, it didn't have enough charge to stay on since the charger is not a fast charger and wasn't giving more then it used. it shut back off. i unplugged and replugged and this time it flashed and then turned solid. turned the phone back on and it stayed on without issue.
this morning it was still coming back up. though i have had one instance where it didn't today but i was able to force it off by holding the power button.
i went ahead a few minutes ago and updated to viper 2.5 and i'm hoping that the reload will correct the issue... guess we'll find out
Thanks for the help!

well at this point i'm saying it's a hardware issue. after i updated to 2.5 (and got the viper tweaks error resolved) i'm still having this issue. even had it this morning without it going screen off and i was looking at it this time when it happened. what it did was the screen just looked like it currupted the image with vertical lines and everything went grey as it was fading out. and then the charge light stayed on again. at least this time i was able to force it off again and turn it back on.. but yeah. i'm going with hardware issues. i'll probably go to Verizon tomorrow or this weekend and ask if i can take my wifes upgrade 1.5 months early. it'll be nice if they let me.. though now i need to figure out what i'd want to get..choices...

expandable memory is always nice!
though i'm also looking at the LG G2. my dad has one of those and it's been great. the 3000 battery is nice, as is the 13 MP camera...i'll just have to compare and see which one i like better over all. price may play a part as well since right now the G2 is $50 while the One Max is $300....
just looking at them compared though. the One Max doesn't have as good a processor as the G2. 1.7 GHz vs 2.26 Ghz (both quad). i suppose a take the good with that bad would come on either phone since the G2 doesn't have expandable storage.
also... i'm not sure i'd want a phone that size. 5.5 would probably be the largest i'd want. i'll hold it when i go to the store. maybe i'll find it more comfortable then i think...

I had a Samsung phone for 2 years and hated it, it constantly froze and I had to do a battery pull daily. There was also little development for it though u doubt you will have that problem if you get the note 3. After owning that phone for 2 years and then picking up the DNA I have become an HTC fan. I had a Samsung continuum. Jut my little rant about Samsung.

[Q] Another dead Xperia thread

Hey all got a z2 yesterday. I dropped it in the hot tub (no biggie right) ? Pulled it out and the screen went black never to come on again. All ports were 100% sealed. I threw it on the charger overnight, and in the morning it was showing green but still not turning on. Tried vol up and power, vibes 3 times and then nothing. I think it might be on but its on silent so Idk. Not sure what my options are
Could you get it repaired? I'd actually just take it back and say it's defective, which it is. I'm really sorry to hear about your problems though. Best of luck!

Well all the same though that the device still has its warranty. You should consider contacting the original owner to see if they still have the original receipt to get it repaired.
