Onlive on the x10 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried Onlive on the x10? Why the hell is it so laggy? My x10 plays 720p video smoothly so why cant it stream a relatively low quality video through onlive? Even the menus are insanely laggy.

It's just too much for our x10, plus how can you expect to play serious games with our screen? It just doesnt work.

This is only connection problem - you need to have very good internet or live close to OnLive servers (I heard that some of them are in Britain). Hardware isn't much important, many worse devices can run OnLive without lags - the question is why my friend has 20mb/s and he has lags sometimes (he has few devices, X10 too) and my friend has 4mb/s and he told me that he play few games already and no lags at all.....Maybe operator issues, don't know, 100% sure it's not hardware on our X10's.

psx4droid experiences

Happily I got the update to 2.1 for my X10 Mini Pro last night (on O2 in the UK).
So today I installed psx4droid (it doesn't work on Donut ...right?) and I've had a go at some games.
As we all know, the X10 Mini Pro's defining feature over the X10 Mini is that it has a hardware keyboard, which works quite nicely as a gamepad if you set the key mapping properly.
Weirdly enough there's no D-Pad, so I've been using the layout:
Q W E R T Y U I O P
A S D F G H J K L ⇦
Z X C V B N M , . ⏎
▢ ⇪ ? ◂ ⊂ ⎵ ⊃ ▸ ' ℠
D-Pad
Shapes
Triggers
Select/Start
You can also map the camera key as a trigger, but obviously you can only pick one button, which would be useful for some sort of aim function where you need to hold down a trigger whilst using the D-Pad and shapes.
Firstly, don't expect to be playing the highest quality real time 3D PSX games on an X10 Mini Pro, they work but it's just not fast enough to be properly playable.
I noticed that the games ran a little more quickly if you set the scaling to Original.
You'll want a decent sized SD card for storing more than two or so of these games, they're around the 500MB mark each.
I don't have many games, but perhaps a list of compatible titles for our diminutive 'droids would be useful?
007 Racing
Works but it's far too slow.
5 Star Racing
Works but it's far too slow.
Casper
Seems to work fine.
Circuit Breakers
I found this one to be borderline playable, if you have patience you might be ok.
Crash Bandicoot
work ok but not full speed - liamguest
Driver 2
Works but a tad slow spoils the fun - Manny-
Final Fantasy VII
Works BASICALLY full speed - liamguest
Works perfectly (a tiny bit slow but still playable) - Manny-
Rayman
Just hangs at the Ubisoft logo, unplayable.
Use the GBA version (Rayman Advance) in the Gameboid emulator instead - liamguest
Ridge Racer
It all seems to work ok, but it's just too slow. I did manage to complete a few laps but it wasn't much fun.
Spyro the Dragon
Works "full speed..ish" - liamguest
I had less success, it was too slow for me - but my phone is completely stock with the official 2.1 update.
Street Racer
Really daft kart racer, doesn't actually involve street racing; works perfectly - if I didn't know better I'd think it was straight from the Marketplace.
Theme Park
Seems perfect, except the videos are silent. The first person 3D park view works really surprisingly fast, oddly enough.
Wipeout 3
Works very slowly - liamguest
Worms
Videos stop after the first few frames and I didn't hear any music, but the game is playable; I didn't play for long but it seemed otherwise perfect.
Worms Armageddon
Works at full speed - liamguest
havent tried it yet, but being a big emu fan I have used psx emus on regulay computers. The game that always worked was Tekken... give it a go mabey
( if I find my ISO i might fire up psx4droid myself )
the x10 does support OGL tho, unlike a Samsung Spica i5700 that I use for testing at work...

Here i found a nice work around for rayman 1 ( best game ever )
i used the gameboy advance emulator download
Rayman advance its the same but updated with new levels LOVE IT works full speed
also for GBA alien hominid i loved that game for xbox original
turns out it came out for gba and the games almost exactly the same so i was happy with that
Worms armageddon works full speed FF7 works BASICALLY full speed
and my fav game for ps1 wipeout 3 works very slowly ( not happy )
but exactly that its alll good
also crash bandicoots work ok but not full speed
and spyro games as far as ive used them work full speed..ish i now have my phone overclocked well more like permanently clocked at 600mhz for min and max and ive deleted most my processes now i have rooted it so i will retest and get back to you with all this tho.
I have tested wipeout on my device now it works a little faster but not full speed...
FF7 seems the same but it works perfectly anyway.
PLEASE NOTE i havnt used sound on these so when i say good or perfect thats without knows what the sound is like.
FF7 - works perfectly (a tiny bit slow but still playable)
Driver 2 - works but a tad slow spoils the fun
Abe's Odysee - doesn't work background messes up

activate the abes fix in settings.
oh thanks for that!
Configurations
So guys, is there any specific configurations for playing at a decent speed FF VII?
thanks
Been a bit busy, finally got round to checking this thread.
I hadn't thought of using the GBA version of rayman, thanks that's smart solution.
I didn't even bother testing Spyro! Great to hear it works, I'll try it when I get a chance.
if you actually want to get this working at a better speed, install something called JIT. its not an app its a java applicaiton.
it will speed up your phone when doing things such as playing games. there is a thread on here somewhere about it

Disappointed no BBC iPlayer on the Ace

There was a time that us Galaxy Ace owners could gloat having an inferior phone to the iPhone users and still be able to watch iplayer through apps such as beebplayer. Well the table has turned and now iphone users gloat that they have iplayer and we don't even have a functional non official one. I know that we can install a modified Flash Player and a BBC iplayer.apk file but in all honesty, it lags so much that it is in reality non functioning. I mean who are we to kidd? BeebPlayer no longer works and there seems to be no other alternative. iphone now not only has iplayer, but also ITV player, 4oD etc. and it's not exactly the most powerful phone around.
I know this sounds like a rant but I think this just lets the s5830 big time. A phone perfectly capable of playing iplayer videos but cannot because of BBC's selfishness. I would like to know if any one else has been successfully with iplayer on the Ace (with no lag) on other roms.
.....let's just say there's more iPhone devs .
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.

The biggest issue running the iplayer on a low end phone comes from the BBC recently removing low quality streams that made it useable. Want to use the iplayer? You need a better phone.
They removed low quality streaming because there were a lot of complaints over quality of service. Things may improve when 3G streaming is enabled, but the best option is always going to be to buy a decent phone the Beeb support.
I also miss the option of Beebplayer and MyPlayer. Blame the BBC for issuing C&D's.
Sent from a phone with an app.
Apologies if it bothers anyone resurrecting this thread (I can never understand why), but BBC on their blog claim that they can't provide a similar app to that of Apple because Gingerbread devices do no have HLS support. The Solbox HLS Player claims to provide that it can integrate that feature to the native browser. If that was the case then that would mean that we should then be able to go to the BBC Iplayer website and stream video as it should then support HTML5. Now I wanted to try this but cannot access the full desktop site to do so. Can anyone give there thoughts on this.?

[Q] Problem streaming high quality tv's?

Hi guys
I have a problem with streaming TV's over the internet. If their quality is mid to high level, I see only "slideshow" but more often i see only one frame and the picture freezes. I tried to open streams with vplayer and daroon player and both of them got this problem. With software decoder or HW decoder noting changes. It's always impossible to watch any high quality tv's. Not HD tv's. Just a normal high quality streams - 600-700Kb/s... Where might be the problem and the solution of this, or this is normal for our beloved ace's?
I've got two friends with Galaxy 5 and Xperia X8, and they both watch those streams without any single lag... and their phones are much more weaker than our Ace (imo)...
Could it be from the rom i'm currently using (in my signature)? Or its always like that? Could it be from the processor can't handle the high speed streams? My processor is oc at 825Mhz.
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks
P.S: Of course I downloaded any proper codecs for those players and anything needed to stream, but... I could give you a stream link to try, but i'm not sure if it's visible outside my country...
Hello my friend...wht connection u used? I think the problem is from server streaming...in my case i never got lag or freeze but the picture is not good but its ok....i use wifi with 1 mbps adsl...

Well it doesn't really matter what connection i use, since i tried high quality streams with 50Mb/s wi-fi (my home network) and with 3G mobile data (my provider's data plan ~500-600kbps). The result is always the same - lag. But I'm not talking about the lag like when internet is slow, but lag like when the processor isnt powerful enough to handle the frames per second or something like that. Hope u understand what I mean... It's really specific lag, like when your pc or laptop is not that powerful and lags into huge video files... I do not know the exact technical terms to say them here...
Note that if the stream is low quality i dont have problem at all, well, except the worst video quality which is normal when the stream is about 200-300kbps...
Note also that I tried a bunch of high quality streams and they all react the same...
I'm starting to think that this came from my current ROM... or may be the processor is really sucks about that kind of operations... damned x8 can stream without single drop-frame high quality streams, and all I can do is... turn off my phone and watch tv on my friend sony ericsson phone))
have you try with stock rom???

It's been a long time since I dont use stock ROM's... That's why ask if anyone with different from mine ROM, have the same problem. If you use stock rom did you have this problem?
You might test with http://212.50.10.190:4321/?ip=7001 (don't know if it is visible outside my country...) an see if it got lack of frames and/or asynchronous sound with picture...

Gaming Peformance - Audio Lag? (Beans Rom)

So I'm an idiot and somehow posted this in the Sprint GN2 forum... oops.
anyway here it is:
Hi. This is my first (um... second) post - I'm new to Android - this is my first Android phone and places like this and the people here and their work are why I switched.
(short version)
Can any Note2 gamers out there chime in on game performance? I am getting deal-breaking lag on any game I try (admittedly limited but including GTA3, MaxPayne and MAME).
(long version)
In the month or so I've had the phone I have rooted and unlocked it, used stock for a while and then went to Jelly Beans' ROM. I've run all the odd numbered versions of that rom, stock kernel, clean wipe every time. I've read the thread about the rom all the way through... would have posted there but I'm new and cannot yet.
About a week ago I learned I could use a PS3 controller over USB natively for gaming and it worked right our of the box for games like GTA3 and Max Payne. I grabbed those games, and they seem to play great, but there is a noticeable audio lag - like 1/2 to a full second. The visuals seem to be smooth, and the controls seem to be responsive, but the audio lag makes games unplayable. I've only tried those two games plus some emulators, but both animaonline (SNES) and mame4droid (not reloaded) have the same audio lag issues. I get the lag over bluetooth and with wired headphones.
Some searching showed me that audio latency has been an issue with Android for a while, but also that Jelly Bean was supposed to fix that, and that higher end phones (like the note 2?!) had less of a problem. I also haven't seen any complaints from Note 2 owners regarding any of the games I mentioned.
I'm curious what others' experience has been with this. Thanks,
Well I don't have GTA 3 or Max Payne installed at the moment, but I do have SNES emulators. SNESoid to be exact.
I have my headphones plugged in and am using my DualShock 3 controller using Sixaxis and well, these old school PC gamer ears can't find any lag in my emulators. The sound happens when I expect it to, immediately.
However I did notice something thanks to cranking up the headphones, I get some nasty crackle in pretty much all my emulated games lol never noticed it on the speaker but on headphones they sound horrible.
Ah well it's all good. Hope someone can help you better than me.
i have played gta3 and snes emulator with my ps3 controller and no audio lag at all maybe ur phone was a dud lol
Thanks for the info. Knowing that others aren't having the same issues helps because I know it's worth looking into more closely
And I really hope the phone isn't a dud!

[Q] Netflix Video Quality?

So I got the White Sony 32 GB in today. For $600 bucks, I was still kind of sketchy.
First thing I did? Arrested Development on Netflix. It looked like crap. I tried Hulu, only slightly better.
The pre-loaded videos and HD videos from YouTube on the other hand were amazing.
So my question is.... Why does Netflix look sooooo horrible? How can I fix it? I have it on the highest quality. My Note 2 and my Wife's GS4 slays the Xperia Tablet Z on Netflix, although it is a larger screen.
Basically the colors don't look vivid at all. They look dull and boring.
Please help. Could be the difference of keeping it or not.
David
i was just wondering the same thing... this is my first tablet... just got it like an hour ago... and i was wondering is it possible that this netflix app is a phone based netflix app and its scaling the image up to tablet size? that's what it kinda looks like... like when it scales a game up and it gets kind of pixelated... that's what it looks like anyway... don't get me wrong... it'll do since it won't be that often that i'm streaming movies on my tablet... but it looks awful.
I watch Netflix frequently on my XTZ. Generally the video quality seems fine. It does sometimes seems pixelated when it's buffering data at the start up of a show.
If you search the XTZ forums you will find that some people have experienced low wifi speeds on the XTZ. Could this be the cause of your problems? Have you checked your wifi speeds. If that is your issue, you could check out the various suggested fixes. (Personally, my wifi speeds have been fine though.)
Netflix recently launched its version in FULL HD for NEXUS 7 with ANDROID 4.3 , I have a Sony zl and the quality of netflix is horrible, I would like if the netflix FULL HD will work in any device with Android 4.3 or google devices?
