I went into Verizon to get a replacement x2 heading my way and the employee had said and I quote....you should get another X2 for your replacement...when a phone is on its way out they save several thousand for replacements. Straight from Verizon...our model which is not even a year old is going the way of the dinosaur. Future updates.....I wouldn't count on it. That's my take on what the Verizon employee said

Sad, but not surprising.
Thats something I think we just have to get used to. With Android phones, so many are released every year that it doesnt take long for a brand new phone to become "outdated." You buy a brand new phone and 10 more phones are released the next month. Its annoying. lol
Just like when I buy "the latest and greatest". Two days later outdated rofl

You do know none of those are our phone right so we aren't getting ics
You do also realize if we ever did get official ics it would super bloat infested and blur packed just like our gingerbread.

I would think that with both LG and Samsung talking about updating phones that are up to 1.5 yrs old that Moto would do the same, just to keep in the game. Of course, Verizon has the ball in their court at the moment but they could lose a lot of Moto customers who want ICS on their phones.
The Droid X² is an amazing phone!!!
I find thatUSERS think phones like these are outdated because they don't have a front facing camera.............
By no means is the Droid X² perfect, but outdated it is NOT.
I just don't understand how one of the first dual-core phone came with only 512mb of ram...

Not for a couple years. Not many people are going to pay the early termination fee just to have ics. Where would you go for this many DROID phones to choose from? Att? Sprint? Sprint has crappy service if you don't live in a metro area or live on a major interstate I have found. Att is starting to get droids but will always be an iphone first carrier if you ask me. All the best droids will always be on the red asses network

i dont think many users (like myself with unlimited data) would cancel their plans just to get a new phone AND tiered data.
i do however feel like many users will end up begging away for some early EARLY upgrade love.
which may also end up having verizon change some of their "rules" and stipulations in order for us to be eligible for an upgrade .
i wouldnt mind payin an extra say $50 on top of the "new service agreement" price in order to end up with a nice new nexus or rezound or razr etc....

+1 for unlimited data I found Pandora about halfway through my billing cycle and now I am at 9gb of data and if I had better service at home I guarentee netflix would be streaming alot. I would say 60gb without teathering would be about what Id be at a month if not more.
It would be nice to see ICS on the x2, but it could go either way at the moment.
But at least my ROM will be back in development next week, giving you one more option to choose from.

It is with great sadness and anger that our "investment" of my much beloved Photon 4G will not be getting Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). I found out today when I decided to engage Motorola to find out if the Photon 4G will get the update. (See Screenshot of the Chat). So unless CyanogenMod gives us a custom ROM, we just got shafted by Motorola.
UPDATE:
It now appears to be a definite "maybe". Attached is a another screenshot from Moto's Forums. I know I'm getting slack for posting this, but common someone had to look into this. Don't shoot the messenger!
Side Note:
Regardless of where these "reps" are located, these people are suppose to represent Motorola. If they can't get their answers straight then its a bad reflection on the company.

i talked with a sprint employee today and they said the galaxy nexus WILL NOT be coming to sprint. so being rather upset about it i asked about the iphone 5 and they told me there is no such thing and there are no plans for it.
so not only did i learn that the packing slip showing the galaxy nexus for sprint was wrong, but apple is no longer going to be making iphones.
just figured id post that info in here rather than starting my own thread.
but on a serious note moto reps are told nothing that they dont need to know, just the same as everyone else
Haha. Funny man . Well since no information was out there regarding the update, I went the route of inquiring with them. I really hope that they were wrong, but right now (unless someone can get a different answer from them) this will be fact and I'll wait for a port over.

I think that once the photon gets it's fully unlocked bootloader development will really take off as right now not a lot of people are willing to unlock their phone. Also we got two different guys working on CM7.1 so I would be shocked if we don't having people jumping on CM8 when the source is dropped. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about it, we'll get it and hopefully without motoblur(CM8).
This is very disappointing news if it turns out to be true. I have wanted this phone since it was announced, I have loved it since I bought it. I have been able to get over the locked bootloader but it would be very frustrating if ICS is denied to this phone and especially since I have to wait 20 some months before my next equipment discount.
This really means nothing, those are the first supported devices that they are planning for. Motorola already tweeted saying that other devices will get ICS within 6 weeks of Google's push.

Those reps work in a damn call center. I find no merit in this thread or the rep you spoke to. As a previous poster stated, they are only given information they need to do their job...which is answer phones or messages and they rarely do that right! Besides, motorola would make this type of information official on their own, not through some jerk off answering IMs

I'm on a FACT finding mission here because we owners want the latest OS. Yes this phone has the specs to do it I agree with you there, but someone in Motorola needs to take this Phone serious and come out with a timeline or something to let us know what is going on. Unfortunetaly this has close to official that I was able to get.
Lol all I have to say is your 100% correct the agents at moto do not know when software updates. The only way ill believe anything is if a Dev from Moto says so. This is from The knowledge of actually working in a call center. They wont know **** lol

Nearly every phone I have researched on Android has gotten one upgrade from where it started, and some have gotten two. This phone started GB, it'll eventually get ICS. There simply has not been an official announcement yet, and I have a feeling the call center won't know anything until we do. Also, there isn't an iphone 5 YET. There's no way Apple will give up on such a popular gold mine. I just have a feeling call centers deal in official, announced information, not rumors. ICS for photon and iphone 5 release and Sprint Nexus Prime are all rumors at this point. A call center saying no doesn't mean anything.
Lol! Hostile? Bud, I wasn't being hostile toward you...all I'm saying is those morons don't know jack. We will have our ICS....Don't fret my little 'MoPho'ers!

If we don't get the official release of ICS for Photon maybe coz Photon sold by Sprint carrier. You should ask Sprint rather than Motorola coz the update will be made if Sprint ask Motorola support.

I dont know it seems like verizon is making a new droid phone that they claim is the best phone on the planet every other month. I bet the razr will be succeeded by another droid soon lol
while that probably is true, it doesn't change the fact that the major part of the holiday season is already over, with the RAZR in the spotlight.
Verizon has advertising subsidized by Motorola to advertise the RAZR.
Google is the ones in charge of promotion for the Nexus, as well as Samsung, and Samsung doesn't subsidize Verizon's advertising, hence very little advertising done for the Nexus by Verizon.
Verizon & Moto have jointly stated that the RAZR is the flagship phone for Motorola until at least mid Q1 2012.
The Droid 4 will not supplant the RAZR in advertising space as a flagship phone, and therefore will not get the same development support as the RAZR will get for the time being.
The locked bootloader, is a Verizon decision, and really, it means next to nothing. I don't understand why it gets all the press, when an AOSP version of ICS will be ported to the RAZR sooner rather than later anyway, and why someone wouldn't want an AOSP version of android over the Motorola official version, really is beyond me.
AOSP (meaning Android Open Source Platform = basic build from the ground up) is a blank slate version anyway. It's much better than a Motorola official version. If you know how to root your phone at all, there's no point in waiting for the Moto official version of ICS with bloatware included.
AOSP's are far superior to these versions.
Also, the locked bootloader does not in anyway hinder the development community, and is not a roadblock to any development on the phone.
Does anyone truly understand what a custom kernel gets you anyway?? To be honest, not much at all these days. I've had custom kernels, and I've had 2nd init ROMS built over standard kernels, and the 2nd init ROMS actually performed as well or better than custom kernels.
A locked bootloader really is a good talking point, but doesn't hinder creative progress.

I know someone who works for Verizon corporate (not retail). Their techs definitely do have access to pre-release updates. It's how Verizon begins testing things before pushing them out to the public. He told me that the main reason Verizon takes its time with updates is that they test everything very thoroughly before release to limit calls to customer service once the OTA is pushed out. They want to make sure as many bugs as possible are squashed ahead of time. It's a wise angle to take, but doesn't leave "normal consumers" feeling all that great about things.
And what about retail version, who test it if there is no carrier? I suppose Motorola itself, now compare its speed (and stability) with your carrier - who will win?

Thank you. If you let me know what point(s) were speculated and how that effected the thread then I would be happy to engage in a debate with you.
1. Release of new phones from Motorola is inevitable
2. ICS delay is very clear with the update that is few days old. Why Motorola need to push an update when they are about to release a major update? Because they are not about to release ICS that soon
3. One major update per phone. Fact not a speculation. Release history of Motorola is very evident that is also practiced by other manufactures.
4. Motorola had never released the same number of updates for international users for a given Android version that they did for US users.
Edit:
Since you have accused my OP to be just speculations shouldn't you provide sources to prove me wrong in the interest of XDA members?
CSharpHeaven said:
I have previously started a thread in here on XDA stating what Motorola is up to in regards with international Razr Maxx. Please read it in the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25015770#post25015770
Now that it has been confirmed that International Razr Maxx will be launched with Gingerbread you want to read what I have to say to protect your investment.
As much as you want the Razr Maxx I want it to but with Motorola international buyers need to be extra smart. The release of ICS has been delayed in the US due to the launch of Razr Maxx internationally. For the time being, the US owners received an update which I hope the same updates are already applied to the international edition which is about to be released in the UK mid-May, otherwise the international edition of Razr Maxx would never receive any Gingerbread updates until ICS.
Motorola is releasing Razr Maxx close to the end of first half of 2012 with Gingerbread. This is intentional since Motorola would only provide one major update for its international phones. This will be a bad deal considering the timing when Jelly Beans is in the making and ICS is already over six months old. Google will push out Jelly Beans much quicker for boosting the Tablet market.
Now, in order for Motorola to release ICS for Razr Maxx they need to release their new phones first. There are already enough hints on the internet to know Motorola may have up to two new Razr variations that you might want to wait for since these new phones will be more powerful and will be released with ICS on board. These new phones are assured to get the next Android version.
Another important fact you need to consider is that Motorola can potentially take their time up to 18 months before releasing ICS for international users counting from the launch date in the respective countries.
Please consider my above points to avoid disappointments.

I own two Motorola phones that were bought in the UK. None never released minor updates when the USA users have. I have already covered that. You are clearly don't know how things work in Android world. Besides, in practice this is what Motorola has done since they entered in Android game but they have never made it official about anything. Even in the following page they state the information is for guidelines, https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c. So you demanding for a proof shows how ignorant you are.

And as a developer, because of such a big portion of phones now are using GB, I put extra care to make sure my app works in GB, while ICS is secondary when there is a conflict.
But ICS is the future, sure. for now, GB is the focus.

By the way, you are the same member who tried to discredit me in my other thread covering the same concerns. After your latest attempt I will no longer reply to your posts and if I recognised you sooner I wouldn't have bothered with you. Nevertheless, once again it is proven that my intentions are good whereas yours are not, in my threads.
I DO APPRECIATE OPs effort to put up a note to all of US

Such threads are much more helpful than some pointless rants.
moto won't even update my Defy past 2.2 even though it would be trivial to release the 2.3 Defy+ ROM as an OTA for the older Defy midweek. moto sucks

I own Defy too, not expecting much, just have been waiting for bugs to be fixed like forever.

On Austria/Germany - Website of Moto they claim that the new Razr Maxx will definitely start with ICS from the beginning....
So whats true now?
I admit up to the nearest past Moto was extremely awfull concerning support for european users - still lots of arrogance and ignorance for the european market.

"We confirmed with Motorola that 4.0 is indeed coming with the new phones, but apparently other countries won't be getting the same treatment. In the UK, for example, it'll be shipping with Android 2.3, with an upgrade coming sometime in the second quarter. Ice Cream Sandwich may be "ready for the German market" already, as we're told, but we're not sure where Motorola currently stands on the rest of its upgrade roadmap." -- TheVerge
You were right to your claim but UK as I knew it will get Gingerbread. This will upset the US owners as Motorola has no even an estimate for the release date, true the last time I checked.
That could mean Motorola is targeting their new phones i.e. Razr variation for the UK market first just before releasing the ICS upgrade. In other words, the new phone(s) will arrive in Germany much later. Motorola must be very busy to take some of the fun away from Samsung in the UK where they are doing well and about to launch Galaxy S3 shorty before the commencement of the London Olympics.
Engadget just reported from a Verizon's leaked upgrade schedule that Razr and Razr Maxx ICS update is available via OTA in 21 May, 2012 and in full in 25 May, 2012. If accurate, at least Germans and USA users would get ICS almost at same time.

For those who are waiting for a maxx should consider the upcoming razr hd or maybe galaxy s3 instead.

why? as soon as you buy those phones in a couple months something better will be out.
"There will also be a number of Motorola RAZR smartphones with the RAZR HD being one of them with a bigger and clearer display." -- ITProPortal source: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/04/26/htc-rival-galaxy-s3-appears/
The above mentioned handsets are expected in Q3 for Verizon.
In the same article you will read the following also;
"Not sure whether it will get Jelly Bean (Android 5.0) or Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Either way, this Samsung Galaxy Note rival almost certainly means that there will be no follow up to the HTC Flyer."
I wasn't being out of this planet taking about Jelly Beans for 2012 appearance and link it to tables.

Even though you have a point but in this instance it looks like the release of Razr HD is too close to the release of Razr Maxx.

Great.. What pricks.
This is such bs, from ICS in Q3, to Q4 to not at all. Such a shame that they screwed us over like this
DOH! Oh well...I love our developers anyway

Yep, apparently development moves backwards over at motorola.
Sure does stink
Atrix 4G, Photon 4G and Electrify will not receive Ice Cream Sandwich, says Motorola http://bit.ly/QalFQx

I'm really over all this upgrade lottery bs. My wife & the kids all want iPhones, so be it...at least they'll get an upgrade (or 2). I'll either go Nexus or Nokia 920...I'm so over this...
Anyone want a Photon & Atrix (modded) Lapdock. I'll likely activate my Pre again.
Anyone else hear that sound?
It's the sound of me not buying a Motorola device ever again...

If you have an unlocked bootloader I'd love your photon lol.
Damn, I actually wanted to believe "Further Plans Coming Soon" was a turning point.........
it's funny. i was an early webOS palm pre supporter back in 2009. and when they announced that the pre wouldn't get webOS 2.0 i was FUMING. and gave up on webOS entirely. along comes my 2011 upgrade and I have 3 choices...the evo 3D that everyone was kind of salty on on account of the 3D being a gimicky and the camera being weak...the galaxy SII when samsung was basically just another android handset oem, amidst tons of critisism about the original galaxy s, especially on sprint where updates were delayed and people complained about lack of support....and the photon 4g.
so, given the issues with the evo3d and the galaxy sii's predecessor, i thought it best to go with the photon. particulary given the anticipated google takeover.
and here we are, on the cusp of october 2012 and the evo 3D and the epic 4g touch BOTH have BEEN had ICS.
what a disaster. i'm done with motorola. DONE
I agree moto really has made a lot of people mad. They are going to lose a bunch of customers. Including my self.

cleverly locked the boot loaders and abandoned the phones. I knew it when they massively shipped out photons to third world counties.
Maybe google trying to destroy the company! who knows!

Maybe.
They will burn it to rise it from ashes and produce only one top Nexus device.
With ICS update, it was obvious.
Keep thinking Motorola will get better. They have sucked for years and will continue to suck. Time to get on ebay and find me a new phone that's not made by Motorola.
F*** YOU MOTOROLA...
i PLEDGE NOT/NEVER TO BUY ANY MOTOROLA PHONE IN FUTURE...
LET'S CREATE A THREAD AT MOTOROLA FORUM AND EXPRESS OUR FEELINGS/EXPECTATIONS...
JOIN AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE, SO THAT THEY WILL COME TO KNOW THEY ARE GOING TO LOOSE A GOOD NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS...
WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE SAY?
Now everybody repeat after me: "I won't buy an Android device without Nexus branding anymore".
No, I am going to buy Xperia T soon.
haha. Sony is doing well with updates now. But I think design is a step backward from Xperia S.
