ROM Feature Requests - HTC Jetstream

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this, but I have a request for whomever might be thinking about cooking up a sweet and delicious ROM for our newly rooted Jets.
For starters... I'd like "Rooted Any Connect" and the tun.ko module baked in so i can actually VPN in to my office!

im not sure what requests are legit, but I would like to see some solutions to some of the issues that Ada members have listed in my jetstream thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294522.
I know these are probably more app update issues and not Rom bakery concerns...
Besides that, I'll leave the rest in the hands of devs.

ill be starting a thread for my roms soon. hopefully this weekend and you can make you requests there if ya want.

Oh, please please make read times faster for the external SD. They're horrendous. Gallery and music app takes forever to load files. >_>

Damn... you rock! It'd be nice to have two versions to play with if possible...
1) Your current kernel, based on stock, with a couple of additions. tun/tap, USB-OTG, preroot, etc.
2) A kernel with whatever tweaks your beautiful mind can dream up! Various performance enhancements, memory allocator, and all the other additions.

hahaha you consider a preview kernel, with limited features/functionality and some bugs, to be the best kernel available to the vibrant?? or is it only the best because that's what you have?
i couldnt even mount my sd to my computer on that kernel.
im not trashing the dev by any means, thats why he called it a "preview kernel". but to come onto a thread and call it the best available is ignorant, and can be very misleading to inexperienced users.
Honestly , you should try it, It work so good, Speed is great! , No lag, Battery life is awsome., the only problem, the games open but for some reason close,/

So far battery life is ok for me, less than stock passion but thats expected for a preview. I am finding Live OC incredible, set clock speeds on the fly.
But overall Topshelf is right, its a PREVIEW, with more features and fixes to come, so its not best kernel as of right now, but imo soon

Hmm didn't know either, I had NoName as a temporary name then it magically changed to one of the suggested names I liked.
Unnamed is running smoothly on my phone. How does it compare with this? I've downloaded so many Roms but lots of them give me issues. I just need a smooth, debloated stock with amazing battery life like Unnamed that I can bloat up, in so many ways

Yes but without a custom rom, you get stock issues because most tweaks require a custom rom - or deodexed roms in particular.

I would also like to be able to add tweaks to a Stock ROM myself rather than having to use a custom ROM. There are many reasons for it e.g.
* Ability to select the tweaks I want rather than a bundle based on the ROM builder's liking
* Ability to add custom Apps that I use more often vs what the ROM builder finds useful
* Ability to flash the kernel of my liking that goes together with the above two points
* Ability to theme the ROM/startup animation etc based on personal preferences
It would be great if all the available tweaks, Apps, Themes and build.prop(s) are documented and summed-up in a how-to thread for those experiences users who want to do it all themselves without having to spend countless hours/days sifting through the forum gathering the latest/stable versions of the tweaks/kernels etc.
Thanks for your valuable comments in advance.
P.S. I did find a bug in EnergyROM (1st August) that I will report shortly in the dev thread

ability to add custom apps? why would using a custom rom stop you from being able to add apps of your choice? you would add them the same way as on a stock rom, while at the same time the custom rom won't be fuul of bloat like the the stock rom.
ability to flash the kernel of your liking? how would a custom rom stop you from flashing the kernel of your liking?
and ability to theme rom/startup animation> again i ask, why wouldnt you be able to do this on a custom rom? if you are using a custom stock rom, then it still looks stock and you can make all the theme changes etc that u want to it
idk, none of your reasons make any sense to me
My goal is to save time. Rather than having to try "X" number of ROMs and tweaking them, it would be nicer if one could mix'n'match a ROM according to one's liking. I had to spend so many hours just to try out each ROM (and do the back/restore of my data/apps) for each one that it is no longer funny.
So, like the GApps updatable zip file available and the Beats Audio zip and the Sony Bravia Engine zip, if the various tweaks are also available as zip files, it would a matter of minutes to apply them on the stock rom to remove and customize rather than having to flash the whole system. Hope it makes more sense now!
Well then you might as well learn to cook them yourself. And I really would like to know what bug you encountered on energy... It is basically stock and you can apply the tweaks you want.
Never mind about the bug, I see your post on the energy thread.

Make a nandroid, flash on full battery, if you have too many issues, restore nandroid.. back to stock (im)perfection.
Say what you want about other roms by other developers for other devices.. we may not have 20 developers pumping out 20 Roms a week, but we do have developers who put out very very solid work you can count on. Just change ONE thing at a time, don't flash a rom AND a custom kernel unless it was included with the rom.. many users here are flash happy and quick to blame some random thing they flashed, when they flashed too much too quick to know what is truly to blame.
Check my signature for the Bible, it has all the roms listed and much more..
If you want cutting edge features try a rom by eclipse remix(speedrom jellybean for example), but because he pushes the limits of what our devices can do, they can have little issues.. but nrg and Arhd roms are extremely stable, and close to stock(they didn't remove sense), so those may be what you're looking for.

EVO 3D kernel source release

Just curious how much this will actually effect ROM development? I know we have a few custom kernels which make some things better and some worse. So having source I assume will make a more solid kernel. Is it different between ICS and JB?

Without source, a kernel creator can use their skills to cobble together a kernel, but it's next to impossible. The current crop of CDMA kernels were created by taking the GSM source code and adjusting it. Some were more successful than others. Now that the CDMA source had dropped, kernel makers can use it as a foundation to add features.

[Poll] How many use a custom kernel?

Alright, I am a kernel dev from the Xperia Z forums. @Thraxzzz wanted me to develop a custom stock kernel for the ultra. Mind you, I don't have the device myself, but with a little help from beta testers, I could probably develop one.
But before that, I would like to how many would actually use one, if I bring out a build.
Here's my kernel for the Z.

EDIT: Remember, to use a custom kernel, you'll NEED to unlock your bootloader.
If the kernel would support great overclocking and underclocking capabilities plus swapfile memory support, i would definitely go for it!!

I use a custom kernel for the ability overclock and undervolt. The latter is most important to me in order to save power and make the device run cooler (it really helps on the Z). I am using your kernel on the Z too, btw.

I always end up using a custom kernel on all my devices, just for the little tweaks. Overclocking Im not really concerned with, they devices are normally more than fast enough. A little undervolting is sometimes helpful. Some speaker tuning options for the Z Ultra would be nice.
The only thing i need is a kernel for me to enhance the color (gamma) of the display, much like what asus and samsung did to their product lineup.
I would like a kernel that also supports sweep2wake and doubletap2wake, I'm using one on my Nexus 7 (2013), it is great and I love doubletap!

I could, but honestly I would gladly donate 50 bucks to anybody who could port a stock 4.3 as if it was a Z Ultra Google Play Edition...
I used Siyah on my S3 since it was developed for it, but now I left it behind (together with the dual boot capability) with CM 10.2 and used the CM stock kernel since.
I used it to overclock, undervolt, better the speaker and headphones volumes etc.
Looking forward to trying your future kernel, I have another week to wait for my handset to come yet...
