Except, that thread includes 0 links, 0 references to Moto quotes and promises, etc.

Don't delete this thread!
People are lazy, we will never get the bootloader unlocked if no one does anything, and this thread provides links and references.
We need all the help we can get!

I second this. Motorola needs to take responsibility for its words and actions.

The way information moves these days, I'm surprised that it hasn't been leaked out already. I wish someone at moto would go against the grain and do a solid for the community.

I fourth it! =D

I stand corrected, good thing the mods are smarter than me.

If anyone is interested I wrote up this complaint (http://db.tt/Z441y4yG) concerning Verizon's policy of locked bootloaders and how it violates the LTE license. I sent it to the FCC and NY senators, one of whom is looking into the matter. The complaint is written like a legal brief and has garnered the attention of at least senator. Feel free to use it and send it to FCC and your senators.

VZW got our petition and my letter, as a result they allowed HTCdev.com to work to unlock our phones!

good job to all who signed the petition, what an awesome victory!

With enough signatures, this can work. This is the same method that was used with HTC and resulted in the acknowledgement by the CEO, and the promise of unlocked boot loaders for all phones from now on.
Verizon is trying to protect us from ourselves, they claim that allowing the phones to be unlocked would "hurt" us, as we would not be able to get "excellent customer service" should we ever need troubleshooting advice from them.
We all know that we understand the risk associated custom software and roms, as well as unlocking and changing critical software. We can choose to participate, or choose to leave our phones as Verizon shipped them.
We want the ability to CHOOSE what we do with our phones, not to have VZW protect us from ourselves. Giving us the option to unlock is not the same as shipping the phones in an unlocked state... We simply want the option.
Basically what Verizon is saying is that since it is so easy to root and un-root with virtually no trace they don't want this to be easy because they have replaced thousands of phones already that were "bricked" by the users.
I wouldn't mind a minor lockdown making it somewhat difficult to modify the phone, but this type of lockdown is a little out of hand.

the current lock down in place can stay in place. We just want them to allow HTC to unlock our phones should we choose to use their unlock tool, created and supported by HTC, for HTC phones.
nothing has to change except that.

Ah, I didn't realize there was an HTC tool to do that. I am new to HTC phones, my previous two phones were Samsungs (Fascinate and Charge) and they were both ridiculously easy to unlock.

Unlocked Bootloader Petition

Well its been a year and our bootloaders are still locked. In 2011 moto promised to embrace the dev community and unlock all the bootloaders on their phones. HTC started offering unlocks but moto hasn't said a word. I personally think it has something to do with Google's purchased of Motorola mobility but I'm not sure. They haven't issued any type of statement regarding this issue. Lets take action! We need EVERY one in the photon forums to take 3 mins and fill this out. This petition is flying around teh interwebz extremely fast. Its definitely going around XDA as all moto owners are joining forces, let's get in on it! I hope moto responds I really like them as a company now...

Droid X2 Among others to get ICS

This my be already posted but I haven't seen it on here yet. (this is my first post and I'm realllllly scared lol)
Motorola has released an updated list of their devices scheduled for Android 4.0! And finally, we have some confirmation that us X2 owners will get a taste of that delicious ICS. Moto hasn't really laid out the details yet, but atleast we know they're thinking about us! I found the article on Androidpolice.com. Since I'm a newbie, I can't post a link to it but just go to the website and search Motorola and it's second from the top!
Sidenote: Thank you all for sharing your knowledge! You guys make me feel like I actually know what I'm doing!
****EDIT****
Y'all already know I got a little excited when I first posted this... I am sorry for making it sound like "Hey we are definitely getting ICS!" I saw that the X2 was still in the "Evaluation and Planning" phase of development and truth is it could go either way! So thank you for not destroying this freshie and sharing your knowledge!

Thanks for the post, however, this does not guarantee that ics is coming to the Droid. Notice it is in the planning and evaluation mode. Note how other phones are listed at getting ics in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
I wouldn't hold your breath.
People, I understand how companies have to plan for releases. Believe me, I know as I am an architect and developer for a major utility company. What I expect from Motorola are constant updates, not some vague posting that sits there for months with NO updates what-so-ever. Kind of like how we were promised to have unlocked bootloaders by the 4th quarter of 2011 and it never happened. Motorola NEVER gave an update as to why this was nor if they were going to do it at a later date. Instead, dead silence and then the release of the Droid RAZR Developer Edition which costs $100 more than the MSP and no guarantee that it would be released by Verizon or other carriers. In fact, it's not schedule for release in the US for some time, which could turn out to be never.
So, don't take this update from Motorola sitting down. We MUST continue to hound them, tactfully, to release ICS for the X2 and other Motorola phones that are more than capable of running it. In addition, they MUST be made to come through on their promise to unlock the bootloader. Remember, do it with tact. As I've stated in another post, I've already filed my BBB complaint to Motorola which has been accepted by the BBB and forwarded on to Motorola, so the ball is in their court now. I suggest everyone else does the same. The more complaints, the more likely they respond, hopefully with a gesture that meets our wants and needs.

[RANT] Growing slightly impatient....and realizing my mistake.

Buying Moto was a big mistake. Yes. I think I will now admit it. Literally NO updates and they treat you like Sh*T. Good going Moto. Not to mention the fact that the devs give it a miss. I don't blame them at all. When other major corps (HTC at least) have listened to their customers and unlocked their boot loaders and released their source code, what makes Moto so special and not follow suit. A while back they were nearly non-existent. Until Google bought 'em.
I am growing impatient as I slowly see the world progress towards faster and newer OSes and inspite of paying a bomb and buying killer hardware, have to be stuck with MotoBla and am at the mercy of Motorola. Hmmm...*checks if the logo behind isn't a bitten apple*
As if this wasn't enough, add to it CDMA/GSM confusion. Some really awesome ROMs out there for CDMA and we, the GSM lot, just helplessly watch as a third world country. No doubt the devs are working day and night on patches and ROMs...but the progress is visibly slow (for GSM that is).
On the other hand whatever brighter side is left, yes, the hardware and looks are killer. But now I think it's pointless.
Never again Moto. YES sir.
Comments welcome, positive criticism welcome too.
But if you are gonna reply, "Oh one more thread about bla bla..." I suggest you simply hit the back button and go help some noob.

Xda is a development forum for developers, essentially your going to get a nod of agreement or flamed for littering the threads, why waste your energy? Why not voice your disappointment to the company that caused your grief. If Motorola and verizon's forums, Facebook, etc. we're filled with as many post with customer complaints as xda is they might do something about it just to shut us up.

You don't know how good you have it with this phone.
The phone you want is not available and it is a RAZR HD Nexus model.
I am extremely content with this phone.
Used to flash anything that came out for my Samsung phones to try and eek out a little extra performance. This phone doesn't need that.
SHVR MAXX
I have Epsilon V4 running on my gsm Razr. I have friends who have Galaxy and Nexus devices, among other premium devices. They care little about benchmarks and ROMs. They (We) worry more about email, some photo apps, social networking, some games, and business related apps. Hell I had to talk them into rooting and such. One thing they do care about is the "feel" that my razor has; its uniqueness, they grab it, fondle it, leet it rest on their hands and stare at the kevlar.
That being said, I don't think I want to buy a plastic telephone that develops cracks for no apparent reason. Furthermore, if time and business allow I am considering learning the related stuff to Android development. Not just for the challenge and fun, but for the very principle "If you want something done your way, you get to it."
Nobody forced me, or any adult for that matter, to obtain and keep this phone. If anybody is that unhappy with their device, I'd say it will be quite simple to sell it and get something one wants.

Yeah some people just want stock AT&T Sense. Anyways, I believe it's AT&T fault for not rolling out the update. HTC leaves it up to the carrier to when they want to release the update. I could be wrong because Tmo and Sprint hasn't released 4.2.2 either. I have a feeling that The Verizon HTC one will be released before we see an update.

Hahaha like it's all HTCs fault... International has it and there is basically no difference between international and AT&T software besides stupid bloat, so go complain to AT&T if you want. I'm sure they'll send the OTA to your phone right there on the spot.

yeah what's up with this? didn't XDA used to require like 50 posts before you could start a thread? this is why we have androidforums.com. regardless, HTC needs to spend more on marketing so that more people will buy their products and ATT will have to prioritize the updating. this delay is not on HTC...it's almost 100% on AT&T. ATT had the HOX JB update for like 3.5 months before they pushed it out to people, and their own customer service isn't even made privy to the status. this is what the purchase of subsidized phones and contracts gets us consumers. if it's REALLY a problem for you, then you're at XDA for the solution. this isn't a place to complain. if you want stock sense, that's fine, I can totally appreciate it, but you dont come to, and sign up for, a Dev website to ***** about the lack of a stock OTA from a carrier known to take (queue Sandlot) FOR-EV-ER to update it's phones.
Interesting. Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful comments. I have rooted a lot of phones and wanted to see why the update was not moving forward. The extra colorful comments are welcomed as well. The only issue with forums is I could be gaining advise from experts or middle school students.

I think the snide replies are rooted in the fact that the basic sentiment of your original post has been stated an overwhelming amount of times on this website, especially with regards to AT&T and HTC issuing an OTA for major - and even minor - software updates. Many folks get tired of coming to this site to read the same thing, hence the increased likelihood of getting a snide reply.
Truthfully, the update probably is moving forward, it's just that AT&T is about as transparent as the Bush administration so we never have any clue where things stand with regards to actual delivery of the updates. Yes, forums is probably going to be hit or miss with regards to quality of advice. But the way you're delivering your comment here makes you seem like you should be in forums, and is probably going to get you some colorful responses from non-middle schoolers.
If you've rooted as much as you claim, you probably know that we almost never know why carrier updates are not moving forward....or if they're moving forward at all. Many come here to find technical solutions and workarounds to that exact ongoing problem, and often get annoyed seeing the same thing posted again and again in each subforum. I think the general assumption here is that many of us are, in fact, frequently posting complaints/concerns/comments on carrier and manufacturer websites, social media pages, forums, etc. We're all on the same boat, or at least many of us.
We welcome rallying for a cause here, but it's possible there's a better way to go about starting a rally for this issue. In the past, folks have posted the actual interactions they've received from customer support reps and techs, feedback responses, etc, and discussions have ensued as to the best ways to get in touch with the companies involved with regards to really displaying the distaste of both the developer and general enthusiast consumer. The AT&T/Rogers/Telus HTC One X forums is a great case study, in particular, the rally around getting the original JB update RUU, source, etc.
I've had a few interactions with HTC and ATT with regards to future updates, but have gotten absolutely zero information from them. Sadly, they mask their lack of sharing as ignorance all too well. Even more sad is that CSRs and technicians are probably not really lying at all when they claim to know nothing about the updates. Again, we're hooked into contract, not to mention that the vast majority of their consumers don't realize the potential benefits of upgrades, and in many cases aren't even aware of their potential existence. That's where we'll probably really see the change, in getting more people familiarized with the beast we are burdened to deal with; not here, but in the general public.

Oh haha you just wanted to see why it wasn't moving forward is all?
Strange, then why didn't you ask WHY it wasn't moving forward? Instead you complained that its taking to long and then blindly blamed HTCs new marketing campaign for the delay? Doesn't make any SENSE (pun intended).

This information just came in today. Looks like HTC will jump to 4.3 for the Dev edition at least. Here's the full article: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/08/18/htc-one-developer-edition-jumping-to-android-4-3/

"adj: So great that any other word employed would be woefully insufficient, and would serve only to limit the sheer magnitude of the greatness intended as a descriptor."
For those who aren't familiar with the word.
