I hope there will be root avalaible for this device soon. I need root! and there are a lot of ppl who own this device, and want root too.

This device will be very popular because of it's price and functionality.
It would be great if someone skilled can build/port a custom recovery for it.
We have a kernel sources and working adb and fastboot. The bootloader is unlocked.

Yep. I've had the tablet for about a month and am completely surprised at the lack of attention it gets.
In europe it's 250EURO (That's like 330$) for a 1280x800, dual-core MSM8660 1.3Ghz, 1GB ram, 16gb + microSD, 3g-enabled tablet with honeycomb and good battery life, with no bootloader locks, freely available system sources and nice quality.
I sure wish somebody would be willing to take this up .

Does anyone know the password to bluez package of the source?

The BlueZ package is a proprietary bluetooth connection service package. It's of no interest to anyone as far as root is concerned, unless someone has found a way to exploit BT to perform root.
What's of interest to us is simple: The bootloaders are unlocked, the HC sourcecode is freely available. It's the easiest thing in the world to install a custom rom on this device, providing some dev considers it popular enough to do it.
If any dev would be willing to give the device a chance, it would be a great day for this tablet.
Also, any owners of the SmartTab7/SmartTab10 a.k.a v71a or v11a please vote for these devices on the new device voting thread. We need all the effort we can spend if we're going to see these devices properly supported.

The same device for Sprint is coming to the US this weekend. http://wwwen.zte.com.cn/en/press_center/news/201202/t20120203_283107.html

Bought this V71b this weekend for my daughter, responsive screen, wifi + 3G (just checked and could call immediatly), bought it on Ebay Germany.
Playing time for games is 4hrs, don't need an update yet, but Rom support for future would be welcome!

[Q] Archos 101 IT - gen8 or gen9?

Hi, I've been thinking about buying a budget Android tablet for a while, but mixed reviews of things like the AndyPad put me off. I now have the opportunity to pick up a used Archos 101 Internet Tablet for about £100 (so inside budget territory) but I can't figure out whether this is a gen8 or gen9 device. I think it's a gen8 as it originally came with FroYo and the screen resolution is only 1024x600, but could just do with someone who knows more about them confirming that, I'm wondering what the chances are of a newer OS coming out for this device.
Even if it's the older gen8 version, is it worth a go for £100 anyway and just put a third-party ROM onto it to get the features I want? Cheers!

this would be the Gen8 tablet, there is very little chance of a newer OS coming to it officially but there are a few projects including getting gingerbread running and also a few people are trying to get ICS to boot
Thanks for confirming that, I've been reading up this morning and it seems like while they were a good purchase a while back, I might be better off with something slightly better specced (more RAM) and with a bit more support. Now tempted by an Advent Vega which is also for sale locally, a little bit more money but better specifications and they already have a working (very well, from what I can gather) Honeycomb port, with ICS well on the way. Thanks for your response though
I think is better buy the g9 .. it's new, use honeycomb and not froyo like the g8 and... Archos have say that upgrade the g9 to ics!

[Q] Rooting 101 with Android X.X

Ok, so I am a software developer and I have a new client who wants to do some stuff with Android which probably requires a root (such as basically locking a tablet down to run a single app).
They are picking out their hardware and are looking into which version of Android to use and also whether or not to use a knockoff Chinese tablet to save money.
From my research I don't believe there is a reliable root of 4.0 yet. I assume this is because there are no big name tablets running it...although, strangely, a lot of the off-brand tablets are.
My other research seems to suggest that most roots are device specific. Is that generally true? If so does that mean that we will have a tough time rooting these offbrand tablets?
They would like to use Honeycomb because of its inherent scalability which would allow them to, theoretically, use either a 7inch or 10 inch tablet. Is this a valid assumption?
Since the app would be really all that the user would see it seems to me that it may, in the end, be better to go with an earlier and therefore more hackable version of Android such as 2.3 even though it wasn't really made for tablets.
Just want to thank you all in advance for your expertise. I look forward to your answers and thoughts.

Anyone have some thoughts to give?

[Q] Best android tablet to duel boot with linux

Hi guys iv been a long time lurker on this forum using it to gather information about rooting different phones and such,
I'm currently in the market place for a new tablet its going to be android as im so used to the OS for everyday use, but what i realy want is the ability to duel boot it with a linux OS, ether debian of ubuntu, i'm not new to installing roms or rooting but normally i buy first then find out what i can play with after, but this time round i want to buy the technology to meet my needs.
basicaly what im asking is what tablets do you have and what linux are you running also how does it run ? is it smooth or very slow ? does the wifi, bluetooth, and usb slots work ok ?what in you opinion is the best 10 inch tablet out there for me to run a linux os on ?
i whant to spend around £250 on the tablet but cheaper is always better providing it still does the job, for example i saw an archos g9 101 turbo at HMV for 150 quid and for the spec that seems very cheap, iv read on hear about people running ubuintu on this tablet, anyone got any comments about it.
i know theres a lot of questions but if anyone has any info or links they would like to share with me feel free
Cheers Guys

4.1.1 U23GTS and how to root in general

Well I received a device on ebay A9 dual core 1.6 ghz nice little 8" tablet, but the problem is it is the S version so there are no custom firmwares I could upload to get rid of junk (chinese programs) and well have the thing fully rooted.
So I am wondering is there a general guide on how to root such a tablet, because I need to change the device id (make it look like something that can be compatible with the SIM's freeplay or this tablet is an expensive paper weight. I bought this for My GF and all she wants to do is play the sims. and go on FB. the processor is a nice one for the 109 bucks I spent and I would like to keep this tablet in the long run actually get myself my own.
and also one more annoying thing the keyboard predicts in chinese (at times) and the buttons on the lower corners of the keyboard are in chinese (go enter key and something on the other side).
So wondering if somebody can point me in the right direction on how to root this tablet, and maybe even back-up the device remove the annoying apps and maybe install the standard android english keyboard from the source or something. I need some reading done in order to figure this out. But some sharp pointers to good tutorials, because my google searches are diggin up 4.1.2 and motorola finally rooted right about now.
Any help and pointers would be appreciated

turns out dansplans has a rooting script for the rockchip devices rk3066 rk3188 on another forum look for U23gt and terramir in google and you'll find it if you need it

[Q] Need Suggestion: Best 7" tablet for Dev Work (ROM + Kernel)

Oh wise sages of XDA, I have returned to ask your opinions.
I am looking for the best and cheapest platform to do some Kernel modifications too (and work on a custom rom). I have been using the Nexus devices and I was successfully able to edit the kernel to include a 3rd party driver I needed as well as manipulate the rom. That being said, Nexus 7 2013s are still $180 and we would like something much cheaper (the Nexus is really overkill as far as power goes).
To that end, I have picked up a DeerBrook 7" DB Dual Core Tablet from Amazon for under $40. As expected, it is a very cheap piece of kit, but hardware wise it should do for the project we are conducting. However, the ROM and kernel seem locked down and the processor Allwinner A23 seems to have little to no support. I have an email into Deerbrooke to see if I can get access to their Kernel / ROM but I am not holding out much hope.
What would you all suggest? Anything sub-$100 would be ideal, otherwise we may have to stick with expensive Nexus devices.
Thanks in advance!
