Is there a mod or app that makes sgs2 data connection behave like iPhone's? it only turns 3g on when you're actually using it... Only 2g stays on all the time...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
That would be nice, however i haven't seen anything like that. You can switch to 2g in the settings but that's about it, it can't switch between 2g/3g depending on usage.
closest thing you will find is juice defender... you can set it to disconnect 3g data when the screen is off..but it's not exactly like iphone setup.
Developers should try to develop something like this. The fact that the phone stays on 3g is one of the main causes of battery drain.

owh...........
Why not set network type selection as one of your toggles ? How hard is it to pull down your notification/toggles panel, press the icon & manually set your network mode to 2G & leave it that way unless you specifically want to use 3G for something. Or switch it to 2G (or even flight mode) overnight/when you're not doing much with the phone ?
Takes all of two seconds On the other hand, you could get an iPhone.
Problem solved either way.
Re: your comment "developers should try to develop something like this, the fact the phone stays on 3G is one of the main causes of battery drain..." All I can say to this is. It's a smartphone, after all.

You have Juice Defender or several flavours of toggles to suit your needs... Also you can dump the SGS2 and get an iPhone
I tried using tasker to switch to 2g when the screen is off and go back to 3g when its back on but it doesn't seem to be working in cm7, even manually toggling 2g doesn't seem to work in cm7, it just disabled 3g and turns it back on.
Hey,
I am using this for a while now...

Dude, I would never switch my galaxy for an iPhone, never. When I say that developers should try to copy this feature, it's a suggestion to improve Android phones. I'm not a developer, but if I were, I'd do it for sure, and I bet a lot of people would like it. I'm not shouting orders, if you're a developer and you felt offended by my suggestion, sorry.

Hi guys, just wondering- I'm due to go on a long flight next week and was wondering is there a way to use stereo Bluetooth while on flight-mode?
I can't seem to find anyway to re-enable Bluetooth while on flight mode.
An alternative would be to turn off the mobile network some how without going into flight-mode? Is there a way.

I'm searching for a possibility to do that too! Didn't find anything yet..
In 2.1 you don't need a im to work a phone... Maybe that helps.... Sorry I can't test nutton... Im in the hospital as we speak....

Of course you can... I do it everyday at my gym. Just using SwitchPro Widgets and enabling "Turn off signal only" in Airplane Mode. Works great.
Well, you are by international laws not allowed to use any type of radio transmitter in an airplane since it can interfere with critical instruments in the aircraft. So please, obey the laws for the safety of you and your fellow travelers and get a wired headset, you'll conserve your battery as a bonus aswell!

Well Bluetooth isn't radio as such, but a short reply to you, I don't care is there a way to do it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
So when you crash and burn due to cockpit instrument failure (well change in accuracy) we won't care either - well just for the others.
Turn the thing off when in the air. It DOES matter and it DOES affect flight instruments.
Muppet.

Who's a muppet and who's not is up for debate. I haven't crashed and burned so far when I've travelled and used my bluetooth, find out facts before falling into the propaganda trap. I hope you end up on a plane with me
Now I opened this thread with a specific question, anyone who can answer the QUESTION?

You have absolutely NO IDEA what you are takling about!!!!!!
Honestly, just pure ignorance. Do yourself a favour and look into it a little.
Do you think bluetooth is some form of telepathy?

Anyway stop lecturing me in "aviation laws" I asked a specific question and it has now been answered.
Also thanks to poster for referring me to SwitchPro, it works great.

I would like to use this but have a feeling this technology is too new and hurts the battery more than the old fashion way of setting the screen off after a minute.
does anyone know if it is in fact a battery killer? Hope not
How do you even activate it?
I've never seen it working in my phone.

I wish I could tell you I have had the phone for a day now with that feature enabled and have only seen the eye pop up in the status bar twice. It doesn't really work good for me at all.

Go to Setting>Display>check Smart Stay in menu
It only checks for your face just before it turns the screen off, as opposed to all the time. I've been using it for a week and it hasn't really had any effect on battery life
In good lighting smart stay works for me.
It isn't perfect, but it is nice to have as opposed to the german version of s voice.
No noticeable difference in battery life for me. I have found it doesn't work very well in low light conditions and it won't work at all when using most downloaded applIcations.
Doesnt kill baytter as it doesnt use the front camera for actual photo, just for face recognition and that too when the original time out of the screen is reached. After that it checks every 5 second or so and isnt continuously using battery.Instead it saves u the irritation of powering up the screen everytym :-D

I just discovered this feature and it seems to work great. But seeing that eye pop up on the screen every few seconds is distracting to me. Turned smart stay off.
Allows me to have data on when i unlock the phone but turns off when i lock it. Doe's anyone have something like that or know where to get it? I just want the mod it's self and anything i might need to have it run smoothly. Just to be sure i am running infected ROM release 248 with the infected theme. Thanks!

I think there's a setting in that rom (Maybe?)
No that option isn't in the rom but I think juice defender will do that.

Llama (personal preference) or tasker.
I agree with disconnecktie.
Juice defender app DOES do this for you. When you lock your screen, it cuts data off to save battery but you will still get texts and calls... which is a good thing. Data starts up again when your screen is turned back on, but sometimes take a few seconds to get up and going again.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Thanks guys!
Honestly this probably isn't a good way to save battery though. The searching for signal when the phone unlocks will use more battery trying to reconnect than if you left it alone. A better way would be to switch to 3G only and turn on 4g when you need it.

Will the alarm clock not work when phone is switched off?
Is it a setting somewhere?
Just found out it is the same on my sgs2.

It's all in the answer
Well my Nokia N8 and all the other phones i've had will wake you up even when switched off, meaning that the alarm clock will turn the phone on. So slaphead maybe you should change your name to smartass. So only 3 things i don't like about sgs2 and sgs3 thats not too bad
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Too bad that such a great phone fail at such simple task as keeping the alarm on when it's off. Really missed that feature.
That's what i am thinking, another thing is that applications that need internet access can switch on wifi or data and off when exiting applications. I miss that as well.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but i seem to have found a viable workaround for my constant wifi dropout. I purchased JD Ultimate and configured it such that my 3g connection would remain disabled while i was connected to wifi. Since it manages this automatically it saves the trouble of manually disabling it every time. At any rate, it seems to have worked for me so i figured i would share.
In my opinion something like Juice Defender can damage your phone. But that's my opinion that I felt like sharing.

Definitely don't use Juice Defender. If you have all the updates installed, you should not have these problems.
Of course, a great solution us a custom rom. I am running Rejuvenated Stock 2.2.1 and it is amazing.

Interested to hear why people are recommending not to use it. I have been using both cm10 and meanrom and still experience the wifi/3g bouncing. Definitely don't want to use JD if it is harming my phone in some way but it is the only thing that has worked for my wifi situation.

I'm also running Rejuvenated 2.2.1 and still have the wifi dropouts. Until we get the update the One X has that seems to fix the problem, roms won't necessarily help.

How does it harm your phone? That just what u think?
All it does is turn off your radios when the display is off. If u get the ultimate version you can limit what apps have internet access. So, how does any of this harm your phone?
Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!
Color me stupid but is it just changing the advance setting in WiFi that will fix the problem? Change it from auto connection to 2.4 GHz since many routers are not 5 GHz. Worked for me

I want to say many have experienced issues with the radios afterwards.
I used it briefly last year and couldn't get it to work consistently, it constantly kept the radios off. Uninstalling wasn't enough, it took a full ruu to fix it.
