Will the alarm clock not work when phone is switched off?
Is it a setting somewhere?
Just found out it is the same on my sgs2.
Cheers
Mike

Well if my SGS2 and my SGS3 are switched off the alarmclock do not sound, so I wonder if there's something wrong with both my phones.
of course it won't work if you turn the phone off!

It's all in the answer
Well my Nokia N8 and all the other phones i've had will wake you up even when switched off, meaning that the alarm clock will turn the phone on. So slaphead maybe you should change your name to smartass. So only 3 things i don't like about sgs2 and sgs3 thats not too bad

Too bad that such a great phone fail at such simple task as keeping the alarm on when it's off. Really missed that feature.
That's what i am thinking, another thing is that applications that need internet access can switch on wifi or data and off when exiting applications. I miss that as well.

Updated yesterday (12/21) and found that my phone battery was draining fast. Handset got very warm in my holster.
This morning I noticed that the display would never go blank unless forced by tapping the power button. It would dim but not blank out.
This problem did not exist prior to the OTA update.
Any ideas?
If your 100% stock and haven't done any mods to your phone, I would call up or go into an att store and tell em their sh**** update made your phone turn onto a hand warmer :-\

OK. Kinda weird, but this is computer stuff.
Changed a bunch of wall papers back and forth. Reset default launcher (was Launcher Pro) to TouchWiz. No help. Randomly turned on/off various Display settings. No joy.
Let it sit for a while and all of sudden it started working OK in TouchWiz. Restarted Launcher Pro and still working. Set my favorite live wall paper and it is still working OK.
Oh weLL
Sweet. Weird indeed. Might have just had an app acting funky keeping screen awake. Anyway glad its working correctly!

I've changed it around several times to no avail. Then it started working for some reason. Oh well.
I am having this same issue. I pulled the battery and it worked for two days and acted up again. I rebooted the phone and now its working again. Very annoying.... also noticed after ota update.
Has to be some kind of app that prevents the display from turning off. Try searching through your app list and see which apps have those permissions.
Is there a mod or app that makes sgs2 data connection behave like iPhone's? it only turns 3g on when you're actually using it... Only 2g stays on all the time...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
That would be nice, however i haven't seen anything like that. You can switch to 2g in the settings but that's about it, it can't switch between 2g/3g depending on usage.
closest thing you will find is juice defender... you can set it to disconnect 3g data when the screen is off..but it's not exactly like iphone setup.
Developers should try to develop something like this. The fact that the phone stays on 3g is one of the main causes of battery drain.

owh...........
Why not set network type selection as one of your toggles ? How hard is it to pull down your notification/toggles panel, press the icon & manually set your network mode to 2G & leave it that way unless you specifically want to use 3G for something. Or switch it to 2G (or even flight mode) overnight/when you're not doing much with the phone ?
Takes all of two seconds On the other hand, you could get an iPhone.
Problem solved either way.
Re: your comment "developers should try to develop something like this, the fact the phone stays on 3G is one of the main causes of battery drain..." All I can say to this is. It's a smartphone, after all.

You have Juice Defender or several flavours of toggles to suit your needs... Also you can dump the SGS2 and get an iPhone
I tried using tasker to switch to 2g when the screen is off and go back to 3g when its back on but it doesn't seem to be working in cm7, even manually toggling 2g doesn't seem to work in cm7, it just disabled 3g and turns it back on.
Hey,
I am using this for a while now...

Dude, I would never switch my galaxy for an iPhone, never. When I say that developers should try to copy this feature, it's a suggestion to improve Android phones. I'm not a developer, but if I were, I'd do it for sure, and I bet a lot of people would like it. I'm not shouting orders, if you're a developer and you felt offended by my suggestion, sorry.

Can someone please tell me what this is in the top right of the screen. It looks like a battery symbol with the check mark in it. I have no idea what it is? Anyone know?

Since this thread is already created and somewhat related to the alarm clock, I have a question.
Any of you use the alarm clock selection with the HD Station (dock)? I'm wondering what kind of effect this has on the screen over time? Even dimmed down if the screen stays on like a real alarm clock would, is there any potential for burn in, decreased screen and/or battery life (since phone battery is being charged and discharged at same time all night long), etc.?
I haven't seen any discussions on this and would like to get hear from those that use this function.

Now THIS is funny to me because, I was not going to admit it, it was about the same time or more with me before I walked downstairs and asked my boy in mobile support!!! I just did not put it out in public!
this has me wondering, what other crap is here I have no clue about? BusyBox? I got it when I rooted and it takes a **** load of internal memory (like 3Gb+) but I have no clue WHY its require?

Busybox provides binaries needed to perform various root tasks. Basically a toolbox of utilities. http://busybox.net/about.html
I have the alarm volume up all the way and it still to quiet. Anyone have an idea to solve this with out using another app? I'm using stock Verizon rom and unrooted

Hmm, quite an alarm.
I'd recommend using the app Alarmdroid. At max volume, it's enough to wake everyone in the house up. It really depends on how deep of a sleeper you are. I'm a really deep sleeper but I can still wake up after like 3-4 minutes of the alarm going off on 50% volume.

From my personal experience with almost every android phone, the stock alarm app is terrible. It's one of those things that you need to replace (e.g. browser) when you get a new phone - But not many people know that the 3rd party alarms are 10x better than stock.
Your problem could probably be because of your speaker or some other factor. Are you sure that you went into settings and made the alarm volume the highest? The low volume would probably be a huge complaint by many users if it happened to everyone. Then again, on my old phone (Evo 3D) the stock alarm wouldn't even go off half the time even at full alarm volume but it wasn't widely known issue.
I downloaded a ringtone from zedge for my alarm, maybe it will be loud . If not I'm going to try another app

Is anyone else's wifi turning off with the screen off even though that setting has not been enabled?
I am missing notifications because of it.
I have had this issue on both stock and custom Roms.
Would love suggestions on a solution. The my s2 never has this issue.
Thanks

Yup...happens quite often and it's infuriating. From what I read, it happend on the original One X as well and it was fixed, but it appears the same issue exists on the X+. HTC FTW. Ugh.
We need this. Apparently it's a power saving function. f'ing HTC.

I'm concerned about no more deep sleep. On my s2, wifi notifications would still be received even in deep sleep. This app may burn the battery fast.

Edit:
FIrst off, I will say that I have ALWAYS had the box unticked which said "Data Connection: put to sleep when screen is off"
I have now for the past few hours experimented with ticking it. Wifi does not appear to be going to sleep with this option ticked
I am a native English speaker, and I must say that the way this is not written clearly. What it must mean is it puts the phone modem to sleep with the screen off but not the wifi. So therefore, when the box is unticked the phone modem must have priority (a guess)
HTC have really made this option unclear. I will continue to tick the box and report back if there are any more issues but this counter-intuitive box appears to be working.
Never mind, I still have the problem.
Wifi still turns off with screen constantly whether the box is ticked or not.
Anyone else?
