I just want the mod it's self and anything i might need to have it run smoothly. Just to be sure i am running infected ROM release 248 with the infected theme. Thanks!

I think there's a setting in that rom (Maybe?)
No that option isn't in the rom but I think juice defender will do that.

Llama (personal preference) or tasker.
I agree with disconnecktie.
Juice defender app DOES do this for you. When you lock your screen, it cuts data off to save battery but you will still get texts and calls... which is a good thing. Data starts up again when your screen is turned back on, but sometimes take a few seconds to get up and going again.

Thanks guys!
Honestly this probably isn't a good way to save battery though. The searching for signal when the phone unlocks will use more battery trying to reconnect than if you left it alone. A better way would be to switch to 3G only and turn on 4g when you need it.

Is there a mod or app that makes sgs2 data connection behave like iPhone's? it only turns 3g on when you're actually using it... Only 2g stays on all the time...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
That would be nice, however i haven't seen anything like that. You can switch to 2g in the settings but that's about it, it can't switch between 2g/3g depending on usage.
closest thing you will find is juice defender... you can set it to disconnect 3g data when the screen is off..but it's not exactly like iphone setup.
Developers should try to develop something like this. The fact that the phone stays on 3g is one of the main causes of battery drain.

owh...........
Why not set network type selection as one of your toggles ? How hard is it to pull down your notification/toggles panel, press the icon & manually set your network mode to 2G & leave it that way unless you specifically want to use 3G for something. Or switch it to 2G (or even flight mode) overnight/when you're not doing much with the phone ?
Takes all of two seconds On the other hand, you could get an iPhone.
Problem solved either way.
Re: your comment "developers should try to develop something like this, the fact the phone stays on 3G is one of the main causes of battery drain..." All I can say to this is. It's a smartphone, after all.

You have Juice Defender or several flavours of toggles to suit your needs... Also you can dump the SGS2 and get an iPhone
I tried using tasker to switch to 2g when the screen is off and go back to 3g when its back on but it doesn't seem to be working in cm7, even manually toggling 2g doesn't seem to work in cm7, it just disabled 3g and turns it back on.
Hey,
I am using this for a while now...

Dude, I would never switch my galaxy for an iPhone, never. When I say that developers should try to copy this feature, it's a suggestion to improve Android phones. I'm not a developer, but if I were, I'd do it for sure, and I bet a lot of people would like it. I'm not shouting orders, if you're a developer and you felt offended by my suggestion, sorry.

I've tried this, doesn't work on sgs2... But thanks!

I've got an issue and would love some feedback from the community. I just got a replacement DX2 and threw CM7 RC1 on, same as I did with my old phone. On this phone though I did flash the new mashup. For some reason when I shut my screen off it keeps turning it self back on over and over again. It does it when it feels like. I've done a battery pull and wiped dalvik/cache. Any suggestions?
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
Never had that happen, personally. Also running CM7RC1 with the mashup. Could it possibly be an app that's turning the screen back on?

I had this issue and discovered I had a couple apps that used something called airpush. Anyway, don't really remember exactly what it does but there's an app called airpush detector I downloaded that will tell you which apps you have that have it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I just flashed the stock cm7 build.prop and so far no more screen gremlins.

I'm one to always flash some sort of rom on my droid devices, but after a few days with my new toy...I'm wondering how much better it can get? So far the only thing I'm really missing is tethering....everything else is so damn silky!

My a fancy dialer with some cool colors, can't see much else to make it better. besides losing the bloatware
I would like higher screen density. Wondering if touchwiz will work correctly if this is changed once we get root.
I love it as is, only thing I'm looking to do is get rid of bloatware.
Love the phone. But what I think can improve, based on experiences with improvment in my Captivate, is battery life. I was getting phenomenal battery live on it, using Devil Kernel. And eventually, we'll want to be able to up the CPU speed, and tweak voltages (mainly for battery improvement).
Agreed...battery issues is a must! An oc'd kernel wouldn't be too bad as well...

I've been tethering hotspot using my sgs3. I removed the tetheringmanger.apk and use a widget to toggle on/off. You can setup your own password and ssid with tetheringmanager removed, just can not turn it on/off in settings. I had my tablet connected and surfing web yesterday to test.
p.s.... I am rooted to remove the apk...

+1
First thing I did after rooting was make a nandroid, install Titanium Back up and remove the bloatware.
The couple of days between getting the phone and being able to root and make backups caused me some serious anxiety.
nandroid + Titanium backup = warm fuzzy feeling.

I have had my Galaxy S II for a while and have been absolutely loving it after upgrading from my Captivate, and haven't found the need to root it and load it up with custom roms JUST yet, but one thing that's been annoying lately is that when it is just sitting here not doing anything, the screen will randomly turn on for no reason, no notifications or anything and then turn off after a couple seconds. happens every couple of minutes generally but occasionally it will do it several times within a short amount of time. I was thinking one of my apps or something is responsible but I am unsure of how to isolate which is doing it and why. Hoping someone has had a similar problem and has gotten to the bottom of it, cause id like the screen to stay off when im not using it lol.
Probably wifi. Maybe one of your neighbors has a wifi signal that drops in and out and your phone keeps picking it up

just checked, wifi has been off all evening.
Maybe look for an app that will log what apps or processes are running and how long? Might help you to see what is causing your issue.
Other than that, im if no help. Hopefully we can get you done resolution soon bud.

Aside from this, sometimes I also see advertisement notifications which get really annoying too and I just don't know what app they are coming from. so I just went ahead and installed watchdog and maybe it shall help figure this out, thanks guys.
Sorry if this has been posted before, but i seem to have found a viable workaround for my constant wifi dropout. I purchased JD Ultimate and configured it such that my 3g connection would remain disabled while i was connected to wifi. Since it manages this automatically it saves the trouble of manually disabling it every time. At any rate, it seems to have worked for me so i figured i would share.
In my opinion something like Juice Defender can damage your phone. But that's my opinion that I felt like sharing.

Definitely don't use Juice Defender. If you have all the updates installed, you should not have these problems.
Of course, a great solution us a custom rom. I am running Rejuvenated Stock 2.2.1 and it is amazing.

Interested to hear why people are recommending not to use it. I have been using both cm10 and meanrom and still experience the wifi/3g bouncing. Definitely don't want to use JD if it is harming my phone in some way but it is the only thing that has worked for my wifi situation.

I'm also running Rejuvenated 2.2.1 and still have the wifi dropouts. Until we get the update the One X has that seems to fix the problem, roms won't necessarily help.

How does it harm your phone? That just what u think?
All it does is turn off your radios when the display is off. If u get the ultimate version you can limit what apps have internet access. So, how does any of this harm your phone?
Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!
Color me stupid but is it just changing the advance setting in WiFi that will fix the problem? Change it from auto connection to 2.4 GHz since many routers are not 5 GHz. Worked for me

I want to say many have experienced issues with the radios afterwards.
I used it briefly last year and couldn't get it to work consistently, it constantly kept the radios off. Uninstalling wasn't enough, it took a full ruu to fix it.
