Only way I can think of is to be running and ADB logcat when the tablet reboots. Try and relicate the reboot and then do it while running and adb logcat. Then just end the logcat and look around in there to see what caused it. Although, Now that I think about it if you replicate it you know whats causing it.. hmmmm

How did you know it's rebooting? I thought mine was too cause my opera tabs would all close but come to find out it wasn't rebooting I'm not sure why it's doing that. I went to settings and about it shows current uptime. aka how long it's been on.

One time it was completely off when I went to use it (very strange) and the other time I actually saw the bootscreen.

Also my uptime shows only 4 h 37m.

Same thing happened to me today. It was in standby next to me at my desk and I noticed the ASUS splash screen all of a sudden. Later it locked up mid-rotation and I had to reboot. Since then, I had Go Launcher give me a popular error so I've switched back to stock launcher for now.
i had my first random reboot today
it occured in opera when i changed from portrait to landscape mode.
no log unfortunately. also I'm running a rooted machine.
My prime just shut down again, but I noticed that when it did, it had a question mark on the battery, but it read 37 percent. Booted it back up again, and everything was ok. Perhaps just battery calibration?

Hi,
I got the E3D this weekend. It upgraded to lastest OTA. It gets random reboot and FCs once in a while. The most frustrating is lockups. Everything goes black, if i connect to charger their is no LED indication and i have to take out battery to reboot it. I have seen it happening when battery is around 40-30%.
Is it common or i have a faulty piece?
Thanks.
PS:-Sorry if it a repost.

IMHO i would say faulty piece.. i run my stuff hard and have had no issues with this phone like that.. i know my wife's orig evo and my Hero both had those issues stock (memory leak in sense i believe), but with this 3d i have pushed it pretty good and have had no issues with it.. and i too have the latest OTA..
EDIT: that is assuming you dont have anythign crazy downloaded that would be killing your phone..
Same here. Latest OTA, running hard and no problems.

I never had any issues with my evo. Let other people get back. Like other gentleman had same problem. One of my other friend had reboot issues with his Thunderbolt. It came like that, and I have only market application installed at this moment except swiftx keyboard. I had a sense fc so far.

I had similar problems before and after otas. I did a factory reset and it's worked great since.
i got mine last wednessday and not a single force close lock up or random reboot. I'm truly amazed with this device. its the first android phone that i've had that just works.
I've had a random reboot or two, have had sense crash a couple times, and have had it lock up on me. I've factory reset twice. I intend on exchanging it after another week or two.

I have two evo 3d phones, and both of them lock up alot. mostly camera app or gallery. My wife hates hers, locks up too much.
I did factory reset. I am upgrading now. let's see how it goes!
Let us know! I've had a few random reboots today when it was just sitting on my table... I also had it turn off on me and I couldn't turn it back on until I did a battery pull. I think I may try a hard reset (the ##786# way) to see if it'll fix it.

I haven't had a reboot or lockup so far. Of course I have not been playing with it as crazily as I did past 2 days. It might be some bad app.

Which way of resetting did you use? Did you use "Factory data reset" in SD & phone storage settings or did you do a different hard reset? Also, does your phone seem to suffer from not sleeping (up time and awake time are always the same)?

I went to Android recovery to reset a couple of times along with pulling out battery. Lol.. To get into android recovery press volume down and power button. It seems this phone goes into hibernation when you press shut off. So, I pressed reboot and volume down early in start.
No my phone seems to sleep properly.
I do have heating problems but other people and Thunderbolt user have it too. So, I guess it's OK.

Yeah definitely take it back. Like someone else has said, have 2 evo 3ds since last week and did not notice one reboot
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
i've had 2 or 3 random reboots. maybe 1 forceclose for sense.
The sleeping issue happens if you didn't take the otas

I just got my 5 th prime today, still has bleeding but i give up, cant be without it any more so ill keep it. Everything is working fine, updated to ics, everything still working fine. But then i opened youtube and It was glitchy like my last ones. But after watching a video and it was done, my screen started bobbing up and down. Everything on the screen would move about .5 in up and down twice a second. I tried ending YouTube and it did nothing, so i restarted and ran YouTube again and it seems ok.
Anyone have this issue yet?

Yeah it's a glitch. ICS is still new and needs the kinks worked out.
Enjoy your prime!

I had this happen only once. I think it was after first update to ICS or one of the later HC updates. I just rebooted the tablet n never seen it happen again. It looked just like you said or screen shifting. Then the home n back tabs looked like they were glitching..lol. everything has been great since. Never occurred again. Nothing to worry about unless it continues to occur. Sometimes bad apps cause issues if they not updated. Like Google earth was causing crashes, freezes, and even rebooting at first on the prime. Then Google updated it and it works fine now.

I've used same solution for any apps that might freeze up or random browser freezes. ICS still needs kinks worked out and Asus needs to enable wifi direct, face unlock, and NFC as these are standard in ICS.

Unless the tablet has an NFC chip in it we won't get it, has to have the hardware to back it which to my knowledge it does not.
I'm also experiencing the bobbing, and its terrible! I just got the dock, and since then, the screen sporadically bobs... but when it starts, its almost continuously bobbing!
//edit, yeah its on youtube mostly.
Lol, I first read this as "blobbing". I have this issue too though. I noticed it only when connected to the dock and when the tablet was charging from the dock battery. Undocked and all was well, but it started when the tablet battery hit 70%.
Its almost always YouTube but today I saw the same effect for the first time on alive wallpaper...
Noticed this occurrence a couple of times during random YouTube browsing. It's definitely something (in theory) that a software patch can and will resolve.
ICS is still relatively new on the Android scene... so let's just be patient, whilst hoping for the best.

Have the screen bobbing too after watching youtube. Have to reboot to fix. Also have the problem of the physical keyboard not working when trying to enter a search in the youtube app.
Was this thing tested at all before it was launched?
Anybody get a random intermittent lockup whilst idling. Ie put down Tablet for a few hours or overnight. Come back and stuck. Stock not even rooted. Happens maybe once a week

I certainly don't have this issue, and I haven't seen or heard any other users with the same problem. Maybe try backing up your device, performing a factory reset and seeing whether the same problem occurs.
If you're a more advanced user, you could try checking logcat or dmesg backlogs and seeing if anything off is going on.
Hi, I also never had that problem, so I think you should do a reset to see if that problem is fixed.

I have heard of this in the local forum here but it didnt happen to my machine. They solved the problem by resetting the tablet as suggested here.
I just got my prime a few days ago. So far I am very happy with it. It has a better screen and more volume than my acer 500. There are many other differences but I'll be curious what happens after acer update next week.
Anyway, last night, I was either watching twit tv or or using overdrive to listen to a book and I went into some sort of asus screen with a swirling circle. I got the impression it might be an update. after a few seconds it brought up the home screen. The funny part was widgets I had removed from home screen were back. Did not notice anything else. Stock machine non rooted.
Did anyone else have this happen? Was it some sort of reset?
Woody
After reading about gps forced update in another thread, i think thats what happened. I got my prime this weekend. I did get a major update the first day and this seemed like an update.
Thanks,
Woody

Can anybody tell me if hey have a problem with their prime not coming on after it has been left on with the screen closed for some time?
If I close the screen down on mine and leave it for a hour when I open the screen up it doesn't come on and I have to hold the power button down for about 20 seconds before it then boots up as if it had been turned off.
I've tried the "cold" boot and I've tried a system restore but still the problem occurs. Other than that i have no issues with the prime I don't have a need for the
GPS and so thats never been an issue for me.
I'v got a stock 32gb prime and I'm running the latest firmware for the UK

Thanks for the link ill try out those tips
You may want to check this out as well. People reported it helped with their sleep of death http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674551
Mine too. And none of those 'tips' worked. I use my TFP for at least 10 hours every day. It's a workhorse and it does the job. Best machine I've ever had. But it has all the bugs others report as well. Browser crashes. Yes. Reboots. Yes. Laggy browser. Yes. Games bombing, yes. Poor wi-fi range and data speed. Yes. Battery time down to a few hours. I'm fed up with the so-called 'fixes'. Most cause other problems. Every time an update is hinted at, I think, 'Great.' But the update rarely seems to arrive. How many weeks has the current one been in 'beta'? I doubt that we will ever see it. It obviously hasn't done what they hoped and we will see another beta going out for test.
Early days yet but after disabling the MobilDock Battery saving mode I left mine in standby overnight opened up this morning and it was working ....like I said early days but hope springs eternal.
thanks for all the suggestions though guys, appreciate it
