[Q] android app development on Joelz ICS not connecting - HTC EVO 3D

I'm trying to develop on Joelz ICS build but I can't get eclipse and adb to detect my phone. Anyone else having that issue? I don't know how to do this otherwise.

Thanks for responding to my posts. Yeah it is working now somehow?? The app itself looks horrible (kinda like when you try to view web pages and email) but I figure that will just be fixed in later releases.

is it possible to port the captivate froyo leak to our phones? or do we still need a kernel for froyo from sammy?

lets hope they can get a rom made using this soon
looks like there is a kernel made
Woohoo! C'mon Froyo!
Trying to build a kernel with the new defconfig now. Will report back momentarily.
I don't know how many times this has to be brought up guys, but we wont have froyo till we have kernel source for 2.6.32. The kernel source we have working right now is 2.6.29
Just calm down and be patient, or get to work and start developing. There is only so much devs can do, and if you want a feature or something, try doing it and learn. We don't need new forums posted everyday about how you want froyo, or tv out, or ios.

TBH, I'm equally sick reading these posts. Guess what, you can say that till you're blue in the face and people will still act in ways you don't want, it's called being being excited/impatient. You kind sir/madam could save yourself some bandwidth (and apparently annoyance/frustration) by just not licking on these links.
*edit* Also, it's great to see another New Mexican on the boards *edit*

New to this myself. Fascinate is my first smartphone. So I gather we are likely waiting for the 2.2 release from Samsung for the Fascinate? Then someone will likely take the src and remove the bloatware etc?
Is the Cyanomodgen version also waiting on this?
Main thing I want is tether and all the bloatware removed from my phone. I have not rooted and am waiting for a good reason to do so. Don't want to root then have to undo it down road or something to get some other update and risk something going wrong. Thinking of waiting for the GPS fixes to get out etc first. Really want the Cyanomod ROM for this phone.

The root process is easy and shouldn't affect any updates. Removing certain apps could possibly affect any OTA updates - this has happened on some Motorola phones.
Rooting will allow Wireless Tether and the ability to remove bloatware. Make it easy on yourself and just MOVE apps you don't want from /system/app to your SD card so you can easily put them back when it's time to receive OTA updates.

Actually, we have no idea it it removes Bing or not.
Most likely it won't, but stranger things have happened, like Bing as the primary search for an Android phone.

CyanogenMod 7 for Vibrant Q&A

CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.4) for Vibrant
Not supported anymore due to issues with dialing 911. We strongly suggest that Vibrant users of CM7 save their data and install a Samsung ROM and restore data to it
Save this post
Since this obviously replaced the previous CM information. There is still no gps support, correct? I know it was stated in all of the old info, but I didn't see any mention of it in the new logs. I just wanted to confirm prior to going ahead with the installation.

Official CM will be made from what we build here. There is not "Official people" as such - teamhacksung are the ones doing the SGS specific stuff for CM.
anyone else having issues flashing todays update? I flashed it now my phone will not boot.
Indeed. There were several posts in the development thread about it causing boot issues. It's only with the Vibrant though. They suggested flashing a new kernel/old kernel and that should fix it.

Sorry - that is only to go back to previous. We will be uploading another soon if we've fixed what we think we just fixed. But to get your phone back, just flash an older kernel, and then flash 5/1 update and you should be on CM7 again, ready for new update which will happen soon I hope.
Awesome. Looking forward to it.
I know these numbers are irrelevant, but what kind of quadrant numbers is this running at?
Curious as to the lack of GPS functionality, is it because of a lack of open source drivers?
And if it is, then why do other GalaxyS devices have working GPS when (i dont think) they dont have any more new open source files then us?

No, it will turn on. Tho why it matters I never understood. We will support low power mode someday I'm sure, but very low priority. Just turn the screen off, use quiet hours ...
Thank you for posting this. I have a quick question though. I lost my USB driver cable to my vibrant (I charge it via a plugin charger now.) Is there any possibility that I can install CM7 via the Marketplace (from Clockwork Mod or the another automatic install app) without going through all these steps?
I will be coming from Nero....
Thanks for all your hard work!
Quick question I flashed cm7 yesterday and have been amazed by everything except one thing. The color levels specifically the blacks are horrid. I can't use any wallpaper that has shades of blacks or it just looks very low quality. Is this a voodoo thing?

s-voice for ics only, even then it had to be modified as its exclusive for Samsung s3.
If it worked in gb even if it was not that good, surely it could be made to work in ics.
Though the installation of s-voice was without any problems.

Mic and camera are at the bottom of the pile of things to do, getting an OS that was never designed for the TouchPad is no easy thing, drivers and wrappers have to be written from scratch with no support from HP. So have faith in the developers, remember most of them are either at full time work or school/college and are offering you there work for free, maybe you could ask HP to fix the camera and mic I think they would abandon that idea faster than they abandoned the TouchPad itself.

Exactly what BIGSimon said. CM9 is still ALPHA. Meaning some things will not work. Not everything that is released is perfect right away. Developing ROMs isn't always an easy task. What they have done in 5 months is pretty damn great.
yeah i know that. but i seem to recall that it at least halfway worked with cm7. plus, in a short time android will have another os version, jellybean or something. and then what? will cm9 be abandoned and work start with that one? and once again, the camera and mic will be pushed back down to the bottom of the list in order to work on more essential things? seems like a endless cycle

There's a big difference between Android 2.3.7 gingerbread and Android 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich which meant everything had to be re-written to work Android 5 jelly bean is more of an evolution of ICS so drivers will carry over, all the work that's been done now will mean that when JB is released the touchpad will get it a lot faster with everything working

JellyBean will be a minor update, it will have a version 4.1, it isn't as huge step as going from 2.3 to 4.0.
Anyway, sound is surely being worked on (developers (partially, maybe) have gotten rid of bad screen-off sound issue last week), and we will see some progress in a time. If you want a tablet with all features working out-of-the-box, i guess, you should buy another device.

[ROM Preview] Want to maintain me? [PARANOIDANDROID][1.2c]

Hi, I have this ported to the fascinate and was wondering if anyone with some experience would like to maintain further updates to this.
So far I do believe everything is working (calls,sms,mms,bt,wifi,gps,etc..) and it has a lot of neat features that have not been seen before, including the new PAL!
I will upload and provide a fully working zip if anyone wishes to take this on. Again everything works that I know of.
Preview Release
This is a MTD ROM, so all MTD rules apply! (ie: no 3 finger & must already be on mtd)
Since I did not post this in the Devolopment section please feel free to discuss and/or help each other.
Not a complete list! Might be more!
Not Working:
Portable wifi hotspots (Wifi tethering) Bluetooth tethering works though!
Camera does not record video
Bugs:
Choppy video playback
I recommend giving it about 20 seconds before clicking Start!
Includes: Gapps,CarHome,ROMManager & Terminal
Launchers: Trebuchet & NovaLauncher
All Pre-Glitched via prebuilts for your pleasure....
There may be other things that I missed but seems mostly working!
Flasher assumes risk:
First flash: Wipe Data!
1.1 to 1.1a and vice versa: Wipe Dalvik-cache & cache!

This ported version of PARANOIDANDROID won't boot on my roomate's Fascinate but when I flash it with the version for the Vibrant, his Fascinate boots and it works. I also have to flash Icy Glitch Beta 6 kernel for Fascinate to get this ROM working. The only problem is no data or 3g when using this method. I have a Vibrant and this ROM is awesome on it.

Weird
I wonder what I could be doing wrong? I've done a complete wipe and even formatted system and data. I was able to get CM9 SKANKWICH 6/1/12 working with no issue and the Vibrant version of this ROM with ICY Glitch Beta 6 Kernal for Fascinate working. I haven't ran accross an issue like this before. When flashing this ROM on the Fascinate, the phone just boots right back into recovery for me. I had an issue with the phone and had to Oden it back to stock. I'm gonna give it another shot and see if I can get it working. Any tips or suggestions would be great. One thing I did notice was on both the Fascinate and Vibrant, is that when playing flash video in the browser, the browser becomes unresponsive when I select fullscreen. I tested multiple sites that use flash video and everything works great until fullscreen is selected. Youtube app of course works fine, even in full screen. Thanks for all of your help and this freakin' sweet ROM. You rule.

What's taking so long to get a stock android ROM?

I mean this question in the most sincere way. I know there are some incredibly talented people out there working very hard on AOSP roms. I'm just legitimately curious and admittedly ignorant. What is so difficult about removing the HTC sense rom and replacing it with a pure stock android rom like what's found on the nexus? I know a rom like CM9 aims to add back in a lot more to the AOSP so I can imagine how difficult that must be to get everything working. If all that's being done though is just installing a pure Android rom on a phone already running Android (with a bunch of crap added in), what would make that a difficult task, that to the best of my knowledge, is still not done yet? At the risk of further showing my ignorance, what makes it different from the PC world where you could re format a PC and install a fresh windows OS on it, and get rid of all the OEM bloatware.
Thank you.
A lot of it must be rewritten from scratch because the drivers and what not are proprietary.
Please use the Q&A section to post questions in.
For starters, you dont get AOSP ROMS by removing HTC sense. You get AOSP ROMS by building from scratch from googles code.
Thats what takes so long. Getting googles code to work with our proprietary (read: no source for the devs) drivers.
The other part of it is the devs arent working on ICS(CM9). They've skipped that completely and are working on jellybean (CM10)
Deck has a build that is pretty friggin sweet.

How close to a daily driver would you say Deck's CM10 build is right now? Last I checked the only thing missing was the camera which helped out with some other bugs that had been happening. I could probably live without a camera if everything else seems to be in tip-top shape.

Still a daily driver for me.

It's all on irc look in the cm9 thread and the camera's actually fixed now now its just video and Google now is gimmicky you need to do a fresh flash, its updated usually everyday

I'm not running it right now but it's aosp so i'd imagine a little bit better than sense right now. But maybe not since it's not fully polished.

For Deck's CM10 I get about a day. At 15 hours yesterday I was at 34%. I don't use my phone a whole lot but that's texts and emails and some web browsing. Wifi on all day and BT on for a few hours.
