Unroot Bell Mobility SG2 I9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My girlfriend bought said phone from kijiji (online) and later found out the phone was rooted; no problem really. Now the phone needs to be sent in for warranty and I'm having some trouble unrooting it..
I read all the faqs, it's the same process as rooting essentially? I flashed the stock kernal that I found, using Odin3 v1.85 and assumed it worked. However Kies will still not connect and when using the Root Check app it says the phone is still rooted.
I think I may be using the wrong Kernal.. I hate to ask for handouts but could someone direct me to the link or give me a suggestion of why this might not be working?
Also quick question; we think the original owner rooted it to unlock the phone via the unlock app, so will the phone still be unlocked after unroot?
Thanks for the help guys!

A few questions:
1. What ROM do you run?
2. Is your custom binary counter 0? (check in download-mode)
3. Try this: install the terminal emulator from the market. Then execute the following command "su". What happens? If you get the super-user prompt or the $ becomes a #, you are still rooted for sure.

Hey, thanks for the reply
1) I used the rom from this thead.. I just CTRL+F for BELL and downloaded the link beside it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
2) Download Mode displays this in the second line:
PRODUCT NAME:GTI9100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (1 COUNTS)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
3) I did get the superuser request when I typed "su" into terminal client.
So it's official! I'm still rooted!

Flash stock ROM. Device will remain unlocked.

Remember that the custom binary count is not 0! I don't know if they do it, but this could be a reason to refuse a repair. Before I send mine back, I've reset it.

UNSTABLE Galaxy S II after root :(

Hello guys,
I have just bought myself a Samsung Galaxy S II from Komplett.no:
http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=631205#extra
Product Number = GT-I9100LKANEE
I have been using a HTC Desire HD and wanted to get all my data from that phone to my new Galaxy S II. A friend of mine told me to root both phones and use Titanum Backup to backup all data from my HTC and restore it on my new Galaxy S II.
Before I begun I updated my firmware through the update button on my phone, then started rooting.
I rooted my Galaxy S II with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
Short summary: downloaded Odin3-v1.85 and XWKDD_insecure.tar. Set my phone to debugging mode, rebooted into download mode. Odin showed that is was connected. Pressed PDA button and selected the XWDD_insecure.tar file and pressed start. Phoen rebooted and it was rooted.
I got all my data restored from Titanum backup.
Then my phone started acting wierd. Suddenly no one could either call or send me sms. I had to reboot the phone several times to get it to work again. This was early starting to frustrate me and I started to google this problem and found no spesific solution.
I then started to wanting to reset my phone back to factory. Unroot my phone and reset all settings. I unrooted my phone again with SuperOneClick.
Then a new error started showing. I could not connect to any WLAN's. Tried resetting my phone to default several times without luck.
Then I started to look for the original firmware because now I want my phone back to normal as it was when I got it from the shop. I started to look for original firmware, thinking this would help. I have now tried severel firmwares (upgraded via Odin) but still having problems with WLAN and now also sometimes people can't call or send me sms.
This is really starting to get on my nerves And I REALLY wan't your help! I am a noob at this so maybe I have done something wrong?
I also get a message on KIES that the phone/firmware installed does not support updating. The firmware I now am using is as follow: I9100XWKI8/I9100XXKI2/I9100XXKI4/I9100XWKI8
Model number = GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version = I9100XXKI4
Kernel version = 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI8-CL616395 [email protected] #2
Build number = GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
PLEASE HELP ME reststoring/resetting my phone like it was before I opened the case it came in. I DONT want the phone rooted, I now just want it as normal as it can be. Original state.
First of all, what is your product code? The original should be on the box.
You can use that to search Intratech firmware thread. Flash via Odin and phone with USB debugging on and then connect to PC USB in download mode. Follow his flashing instructions and you should be fine.
Edit1: [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2/3 Download
Edit2: Use this website and use your prodict code to find your HIDSWVER; PDA / CSC/ Phone, then go to Intratech's thread and find the original firmware. Then flash.

Thank you so much! I will test that when I come home later tonight!

Doesnt really matter what your original firmware was. As lonf as your phone the European and not US or Korean or something like that, pick up the latest firmware and kernel from the intratech thread and flash both as per the instructions there and root it using chainfires insecure kernel.
That ought to do the trick. It will wipe out all your data btw.
I've just checked for you from the Product Code you supplied in your first post: GT-I9100LKANEE. If this is correct, you can flash the following firmware from Intratech's Thread. Use Odin (disable KIES) with the firmware button "PDA".

Yes, that's correct. But he was after to returning it to how it was out of the box. . So I spent a little time to help him with the way forward.
Ok, thank you! I have now done the following:
1) Set my phone to USB Debugging
2) Shut phone down
3) Connect it to USB on my PC
4) Started phone in Download Mode
5) Started ODIN (Run as Admin)
6) Clicked on PDA and browed to the file I downloaded (the file you mentioned over)
7) Clicked on START
8) Phone rebooted
Still having trouble connecting to WLAN and KIES is still telling me that it is not supporting upgrade!
This is the latest build for your product code, so there won't be any until released for that particular product code.
You could try flashing an earlier Android version for your product code?
Take a look at Intratech's Firmware Thread again. The very first Official Firmware XWKDD . This may be Android version 2.3.3 .......very old
You will have to flash the stock kernel separately after the firmware.

2nd Option: Root using Chainfire's CF-Root Kernel, with your latest installed firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Just flash his rooted stock kernel via Odin same as firmware. Done. Will give you root and a custom recovery CWM Recovery.
As wifi drivers are found in the kernel, you might like to try some custom kernels instead? Maybe you'll get better performance. You can flash custom kernels via CWM Recovery by placing on your sdcard and installing from zip from within recovery.
Edit: I believe this should be it?

Thank you! That kernel seemed to be the right one for me Now I can connect to the WLAN.
But what exactly do I need to do If I any time need service on my phone? Just unroot it with SuperOneClick? If I wanna use the warranty on the phone. Just a question.
To return to stock, just flash your original "updated" firmware with Odin. This will also remove root.
To reset the binary flash counter and remove warning triangle (seen in download mode), search Ebay for "Samsung USB jig". It costs about $2 . Can also force the phone into download mode when phone is off, and if your phone is "soft" bricked. Well worth it, as I used it myself to return one SGS2 for warranty. You can make it too with old male micro USB plug and 301k ohm resistor.

And my last question is, will I get the updates via the update in settings -> about? Or do I have to download the custom once from xda and flash my phone?
Actually can't 100% remember.
90% think no updates. You can just download official from Intratech thread, he updates almost as soon as they're available, and flash via Odin. You will loose root though, so make sure there is a compatible CF-Root Kernel first.
Alternatively, try a custom ROM and kernel such as in my signature. CheckROM 3.1.1 (KJ3) & siyahkernel v2.2 kernel (governor - Smartassv2 with SetCPU app) . Can be highly customized, only if you wish, or stock look.
Custom ROM's are regularly updated by developers to latest build.

I am still having trouble with my WLAN!
It worked great for a while, but suddenly it won't connect to WLAN's I have been connected to before Thought I had gotten a good working driver for my WLAN! The kernel is the same as when it worked.
Any tips and tricks?
Hello again......Not good my friend
What kernel are you running, stock our custom?
Have you tried re-flashing the kernel separately to any firmware?
Do you have root again?
Do you have any issues connecting to any other network router, our just one?
Does any other device have connection issues with that particular router?

I am using the following kernel:
XW_NEE_KI8: 2.3.5, CF-Root v4.3, SU 3.0.2, "insecure"
from this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1318061076
Your second question is answered by the above answer that's a different kernel that did not come with the firmware.
Yes I have root
Yes, I have issues connecting to work and home router and there is nothing wrong with those since there are alot of other devices and computers connected to those WLAN's.
Just had a thought.....
Try setting up your connection to the router with router settings "broadcast SSID" name visible, keep other security enabled.
I had a similar problem where my HTC DHD would not connect to router after reboot, but would only connect with SSID (router name) visible.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I really don't think that will help anything. It has worked before I started rooting and flashing
Mate, all I can think of is for you to try a very good custom kernel. Maybe have modified our better wifi drivers.
One I can highly recommend is;
[KERNEL] SiyahKernel v2.3 - "One kernel to rule them all" (SAMMY&AOSP ROMs)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17583217
You can download for flash via Odin or CWM Recovery (from internal our external sdcard .zip)
Give it a try, sorry can't come up with anything else right now.

[REF] Recover AT&T Note to GB Factory with Kies (Will NOT trip your flash counter!!)
Yes, I'm aware that this isn't the accepted way, but it DOES work even with a custom rom & rooted!!
You MUST have Kies full installed on the desktop/laptop and make sure you're updated to the latest version.
1) Boot your note into download mode
2) Connect your Note to the laptop with factory USB cable
2) Launch Kies on your desktop (full version)
4) Choose Tools, Firmware upgrade & initialization
a) While in download mode, pull battery and enter the S/N & model name (ALL CAPS!!)
b) It will prompt to initialize to original settings. Click "YES"
c) It will prompt to initialize the latest version. Click "YES"
d) It will download the firmware upgrade components (DO NOT DISCONNECT THE DEVICE!!)
5) It will prompt for firmware upgrade and initialization.
a) Click check box for reading above information
b) Click your choice if you want your information saved on Samsung Kies corporate servers (I choose WITHOUT saving).
Just kick back, wait and the phone will update to the original out of box software with the latest updates already applied. No issue with anything, no tripping of the flash counter, and Samsung/AT&T knows now different (if you tripped the counter back before performing this, or performed the process of installing CWM recovery through ADB as to NOT trip the flash counter when changing recovery).
This is the EXACT process I did, and had an AT&T tech verify and it's not detectable I was rooted, and was running a custom ICS ROM. Now, I will qualify that I DID the Recovery installation with ADB so that I didn't trip the counter with the Recovery installation. So if they are able to check the binary information to detect modification even with flash counter reset, that's out of my hands and can't confirm or deny.
This is ONLY to reset to factory GB Latest & greatest for performing OTA/Kies update of ICS when it's finally released.
Tagged, thanks.
Thanks for this. I just got my first android phone a few days ago and needed to go back to stock to return for a new one. I upgraded to ics, then recently flashed back to stock, but my baseband never changed and I was stuck with two on the counter. I'm super new to this and had an iPhone for 5 years, but I think I download the new cwm so I can reset the counter, then do the emergency download with kies and I should be back to stock out of the box, right? I just hope I can find an easy guide to get the updated cwm, I'll search in.the morning. Thanks again for the kies suggestion.

I hate pulling batteries....g
Worked!
Thanks. Tried it for the hell of it and yes, you need to follow the OP instructions exactly but success if you do.
Thanks a lot. I've been looking for this, because event when i flash my note back to original rom, kies still didnt regconize the note.
I can say with a Rogers note all I got was some asian text and an ok button
Worked perfectly! Thank you so much I just had to get cwm, reset the flash conter and let kies do all the work.
Thanks again~

thanks
ever since i did this my phone keeps popping up communication error for looking for an update... is there a way to stop this from popping up????
Um, that's interesting because I've never run into this issue. Are you running the I717 on AT&T?? This has only been tested by me on the AT&T Branded US Galaxy Note.
It was confirmed by many (as seen on the thread) to work on the AT&T Note. Did you follow the directions completely? If you are able to get into download mode on the device, I'd say do it again and make sure you didn't end prematurely.

[Q] Root and Cant open serial (com) port.

I have a GSM version of the Galaxy S3 and directly after buying it i rooted the device using CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.2.tar
Everything was perfect but yersterday I got an OTA update from Samsung. Instead of installing I read some threads and the general idea that i read was Root+OTA could make some problems. So one should unroot it.
Instead of unrooting it the conventional way as it is written in many forum tutorials I played around with the SuperSU App and could not help myself clicking the option: Unroot.
So now I have an unrooted Phone (no root applications are working), with flash counter at 1.
I tried to download the OTA update from Samsung but am getting an error messege and OTA update is then aborted.
My idea was that it probably is due to maybe unconventional rooting or maybe the flash counter. So I tried to root my device again using the same data that I used to successfully root the first time. I am getting an Error:
"Cant open serial (COM) Port"
I tried on different USB connections and using different USB cables...But still the same problem.
The update that i wanted to install from Samsung was installed using Kies. Kies did it without any problem. So I am assuming that OTA did not function because of problems with OTA update mechanism.
So as it stands now:
-I have a device with no root, a flash counter at 1. I want to successfully root my device again but am not understanding why serial (COM) port cannot be opened. As u might have guessed, I am new to android and easily understandable replies would be much appreciated.
Multiple posts say OTA fails on rooted phones .

[Q] No update available after unroot

Good day,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, which I recently unrooted. I followed this guide to unroot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710613
I used Odin3, v1.85. The file I put in the PDA section was downloaded from the site in the guide and was the following: I9300XXALF5_I9300PROALF1_I9300XXLF5_HOME.tar.md5
I did run into some problems while attempting to unroot though, a few times I started the process in Odin to find it had failed after the first quarter of the bar was filled. I think this might have had something to do with my pc ejecting my phone whenever it felt like, but I'm not completely sure (the rooting was done on a different pc by someone else). Of course, because of that I couldn't properly start my phone and it gave me an error message about the firmware not being correctly installed. I persisted and eventually I got it working, though no idea how I managed.
Now, before the root and during the root I had Android 4.1.1, but after the unrooting it went to 4.0.4. Whenever I try to search for an update, either via WiFi, 3G or even Kies on the pc, it says there aren't any new updates. Device status is normal, and custom binary download is No. Bought my phone in Belgium, if that matters any.
Screenshot of the about screens in attachment. Is there anything I can do to get it to update, preferably without the use of Odin?
Please be gentle, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this and I'm not looking to reroot.
Thank you for reading through!

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I however already tried with Samsung Kies, and it says there isn't an update there too. I tried finding the latest firmware on the site you linked for unrooting, and it came up with the file I mentioned in the first post, which resulted in 4.0.4. I'm kinda hesitant to flash again, since I encountered problems when I unrooted.
EDIT: Just tried with Kies again, and it tells me it is the latest firmware. It says something like this:
PDA:LF5/PHONE:LF5/CSC:LF1 (PRO)
Root your phone again
And install mobile odin
Then wipe data and cache using Mobile Odin
It will factory reset
Then you will see that your device status becomes normal
Then go to super su settings and choose full unroot

Guess I'll post it here for people who happen upon the same problem.
Got it fixed, using this guide:
androidcritics.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s3-to-official-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-xxdlib-firmware/
Basically just used Odin to flash the file downloaded there (I9300XXDLIB_I9300OXFDLI1_I9300XXDLIB_HOME.tar.md5) on the phone, worked after the second try. I think my problem is that my computer decides to eject my phone whenever it feels like.
After flashing 4.1.1, it found and installed 4.1.2 update, so I think it's fixed now.
Thanks to everyone who helped. Cheers!

A huge problem with my Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi guys!
I have a galaxy s3 (GT-19300) that i bought 2 months ago. I rooted it after one week i bought it. But, 2 days ago i have slow charging problem but it fixed by changing the charger. Before that happen,i wanted to unroot my phone and send it to Samsung Service Center. But I cant find the official firmware for my s3. Then, i found a option in superSU that called Full Unroot. I try to use it. I clicked it and press continue. It said superSU fully unistalled. I think my phone was unrooted but not.I root my phone again. And the superSU always unfortunately stopped. I wondering why it can be like this? When some apps need root permission my phone will slow and and come out with message "Unfortunately superSU has stopped". I dont know why.
Thing that i want you guys to help me.
1) how to unroot galaxy s3. And find it's original firmware or stock rom.
2) why the superSU be like that?
3) what is my mistake.
Please help me. I hope you guys give the best answer.
Thank you.

first use any type of file explorer to find a file named su in /system/xbin. if it is not there then ur device is unrooted. next tell me you are from which country.
hit thanks if I helped.
Why not try asking in the 'Q & A Section' for the Galaxy S3?

if you want to flash your device then search on xda for odin packages or goto live.samsung-updates.com search for your device and download the package corresponding to your country. if you dont know how to use odin to flash your device then search in your device forum. you will get it there.
I can help you with the SuperSU problem go to google playstore download superuser not SuperSU then run superuser and use that maybe reboot after then it will set as your main one after delete both superuser and superSU and install superSU from the playstore then let it do its thing and after it should work.
