I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

Also have a question about this program
It's restores my apps great. Very happy about it. But when you have installed ur apps back.
When I go to the android market they are not listed in my apps.
Though when i go and look for the app in the store it says installed. Yet can't check the allow automatic update checkbox.
Hope I make sense???
So I can't update it basically???Or when there is an update it will show up in my apps ???
My SD card was fried last night... everything gone. Good thing I backed up everything onto my laptop last week. Got a new SD card and copied everything over from the laptop. When I go into TB app, it doesnt show what I copied over. SHows I have no apps in memory... I made sure to copy everything into the "Titanium Backup" folder in my SD card. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?
Hey guys,
it really seems that i'm the only one too stupid to solve this problem.
I have a Desire HD and bought the Atrix
So far no problem ->
I backuped all my apps + application data on the Desire HD ->
-> inserted the SD Card into my Atrix,
-> tried it both ways,
- set the titanium backup backup folder to SD-EXT
- and / or copied the SD-EXT Titanium Backup folder to the internal SD Card Memory, and used the default Titanium Backup settings,
-> in both ways, the applications are being restored but NO application data.
please can anyone help me with this?
I really go no idea, and i really need my app-data back, now trying for about 1 week...
any assistance / help is really appriciated,
thanks a lot guys,
cheers,
mike
When you restored/backed them, did you choose the restore/backup app+data option in titanium backup?
thanks for your reply
yes, i chose:
menu- batch - restore section - restore all applications and data.
i use titanium backup for years now and really dont know what the problem might be.
the desire HD runs a miui rom? can there be a problem?
thanks mike
Ps.: is it possible thatcher the busybox version causes such ne problem?
add: can anyone help me with this?
:=)
1. how do you do it?
2. Can Busybox be the origin of this problem
:=) thanks any comment appreciated
Me too
Im in the same boat buddy. I flash maybe 2 rom Bs a day and lose my SHADOWGUN data. Its a pain because I don't have wifi or high speed and I drive to Burger King to redownload my large files. Titanium Backup hasn't ever restored my data. What can I do??
Motorola atrix 4g with Tmobile
sim card and unlocked bootloader
Running wetdream 1.3.0
nice to hear :=( *sry* that i'm not alone..
so,
what i tried today:
- check if on both mobiles is the same version of busybox installed (check)
- deleted all old backups...
(i read something, that busybox just restores data if its from the same backup as the application... so maybe..)
- restored all apps on my new atrix ..
DIDN'T WORK - WTF
I dont have a clue, what's going on, i never had such problem either with android nor with titanium backup...
-> can someone -where this procedure works- please explain what he does... if there have been any problems, and how he /she managed to restore all settings...
please please please :=) give us some advice! :=)
that can't be it...
I'll also check the Titanium Backup Forum today, so maybe they can help us...
cheers,
:edit: TB Backup Developer contacted... no idea *thumbsUp* :=)
Well I don't really know but I'm just going to throw this out there in case you haven't tried it already.
Is TB being given su by superuser?
Are the apps being installed on external or internal? Have you tried changing the install options?
/mnt/sdcard/ or /mnt/sdcard_ext/
Have you tried previous versions on TB? Just in case.
so, today i really tested every setting
in titanium backup.... unfortunately without luck.
the only this i didn't tested yet, was to try previous version of TB.
thanks for your response and your advice,
maybe someone else knows.
today i also wrote another mail to the titanium backup support mail within the app.
maybe this problem is also related to the MIUI Rom i use on my old DHD.. :=(
thank you!
One more thing you might try.
This worked for me in a slightly different situation.
Install the program from scratch. Uninstall previous version if necessary.
Restore Data only from TB.
Good luck!
hey, at first thanks for the fast reply, second
, you mean, delete the app from my new phone,
-> re-install them from the market
-> restore app data from TB-Backup?
thanks, as soon as u confirm, ill test it.
all the best,
mike
addon: hey, just tested it with one single app. deleted it, reinstalled it from market, just restored data.
without luck unfortunately
Hey guys, to bring this post up again,.. i havent solved my problem so far..
Are you all using custom roms or are you 'also' using the stock rooted roms to restore old apps.
Please give me some system information ..
I dont want to lose my App data..
(((
Thanks
Any help appreciated ..

SOLUTION: Flash Custom ROM -> afterwards restore apps ;=)
It really was the problem I thought of:
Motorola Atrix 4G "standard" ROM, calls
-> internal memory "SD-Card" and
-> External Memory "SD-Card-Ext" ...
it looks like this confuses TB which leads to my described problem.
Finally I flashed a CM7 rom, my SD-Card is called "sd-card" again, and my internal memory :=) ;D "internal" ;=),
and titanium backup restored all my apps incl. app-data without any problems.
I tried to contact TB-Devs, but no-one ever replied. its a pitty
hope this helps anyone :=)

Out of curiousiy, did this new custom ROM have Titanium installed on it or you did this after flashing to the ROM.
I ask this as there is another bug when restoring backups from GB to ICS. usually it will fail to restore the app and data but if you go to menu / preferences and scroll down about half way to "app processing mode", it will normally default to auto direct. if you select interactive, it takes longer and you have to reinstall each app (vs batch) one by one but it will restore your app. you then restore it again but this time select data only and this time your app and data will be restored.
Dont know why, i just know it works.

can someone lend a hand. Ti backup shows only one application to backup/restore - setcpu. where did the other applications go to?
thank you in advance.
which version have u installed (rom) cheers
the rom is the stock gs2 sprint rom. additionally, when i go to the market many applications do not show up, especially the ones that i purchased. i have attempted to use various android market enablers, but to no avail. i would be extremely grateful for a fix.
eric
i would suggest
switch to another rom.
solved all my problems
all the beste
the point is that i don't want to change the rom, as the one that i am using is adequate. just would like to understand why/how this happened. if someone can lend a hand, i would greatly appreciate it.

TiBu has no problems restoring app data on my stock ROM
Alright, first of all, yes, I'm a noob here, however I am not a noob to forums. I did search for similar problems but to no avail. Moving on..
I just recently put CM 7.2 on my dad's Droid X2, I had it working flawlessly and everything was fine. Created a nandroid backup and all was good.
Today he wanted to restore his phone back to that original nandroid in order to get his recipes and notes from some app that didn't transfer over (I was unaware, or i would have saved them) when he did so he restored it and everything was going fine until the phone locked up with "dynamic config335.data" on his screen. Apparently, it locks at this and needs a battery pull to fix, and the restore never occurred.
We ended up doing this a second time and the same process occurred again. As I never had to deal with this with my DX2, i'm not quite sure what to do.
Any help would be great!
Thanks
You could try to sbf and then restore the nandroid.
DD you do not ID the restoration agent is it TB? Or what?
Ok so the error occurred after the suspected nandroid?
Here is where I get confused
"(I was unaware, or i would have saved them) when he did so he restored it and everything was going fine until the phone locked up with "
Restored it w/ cwr?

You'll have to slow it down with the acronyms until I know them all haha
After I rooted his phone, and before I flashed CM7, I created a Nandroid. After he's been tinkering with it for the last few days he realized he wanted some files that did not get transferred over.
He decided to restore to that nandroid and while it was restoring it got stuck with that appearing on his screen. It never finished the restore.
Luckily I had him make another nandroid before messing with it so I was able to get CM7 back unharmed however he still wants these files...
Do you guys recognize this error? It just happens mid restore
Never seen the error. You could just have a random error. Maggard.
...may have the best advice.
If you have Titanium Backup you could try using it to restore just the data that he needs. TB has the ability to restore files and data from nandroids. You may have to have the paid version though, I'm don't remember for sure.
Alrighty, i'll try and mess with it. Thanks guys!
so guys, I had tried out eclipse for the first time. It was damn impressive, but there was a few things that I was missing, and I had a problem with my corporate sync, which was a dealbreaker for today. I thought I would just quick BSR nandroid back to my stock setup for today.
Well, the restore didn't take. There was a barrage of FC's, and after I was finally able to wade through them, it was clear there was an issue. I still have the superuser app, but BSR is not working. It shows installed in the app drawer, but when I try to install again from the app it says it doesn't have permission. When I plug in the phone it turns on and goes to the moto logo and just stays there. Maybe 1/2 my apps restored. I noticed all my old texts were back.
This was my first attempted use of restore, I'm thinking perhaps I was supposed to wipe before hand? I'm curious if there's any way to save this, or if I have to do the SBF dance, and then can I try the restore again once I'm back up to 2.3.5?
And yes, the backup was a 2.3.5 backup
You can't restore a 2.3.4 backup if you're currently running on 2.3.5. I tried this too a while back and realized that is what messed me up. Only issue I had was that wifi would not connect no matter what. It just said error. You will need to SBF to go back to 2.3.4 if you try to restore a ROM based on 2.3.4 framework (CM7, stock, liberty, molten, etc). You can NAND restore between all of those ^ without issue as I do it DAILY.
So to successfully restore a NANDROID backup of a 2.3.4 ROM you must already be on 2.3.4 or a ROM based off of it.
I don't really ever use Eclipse anymore, but when I flash something else I always SBF first just to be sure I'm not going to have any problems later.
Edit: Just noticed you said it was a 2.3.5 backup, sorry. You didn't rename the backup did you? If you did, did you add spaces to the file name? This will break your backup.

Nope, no file name changes. My current theory is something about the SD flip must have gone haywire. I somehow seemed to have lost root.
And yes, everything here was 2.3.5 418 based
err, nevermind this post
did the sbf dance last night, tried the BSR restore again, same results!
so I SBF'd again and got back to 2.3.5 rooted stock and am sitting here for now
I know somebody out there knows more about this than I do
oh, and the damn yahoo account sync isn't working, had to install email only as imap
and how can there be data left on the phone after a datawipe? I have backups from app configs available from months ago.

Who knows, maybe the SD flip did have something to do with it. I've never personally used/looked into it. Could your SD card be dying? Try charging your phone and making a new NANDROID backup and see if you're able to restore that one. Could just be an issue with that backup file.
& SBF wipes internal phone storage so if you had app data backed up on SD, it'll still be there. It doesn't touch external SD data. That's why I keep everything on my external SD card. .
I've sbf'ed and data wiped plenty of times with my removable SD card inserted.

Thanks for the reply Roy. I deleted stuff from my SD manually, so there was nothing left there. Just plugging into mass storage mode and exploring the interal storage I can see the old data still there in the data folder. I don't know how it survived 2 data wipes? At this point I need to take a night off. Next I may try my eclipse backup and see if that works.
Another thought was that the SD was fairly full, but I didn't see any messages about running out of space. Any idea how big a BSR backup should be?
And since this is my first attempt at BSR restore, it IS supposed to restore everything, right?

Yes it WILL restore everything you had backed up. SMS inbox messages, call logs with dates and times, system settings, laucher and desktop setting, etc.
I usually backup pretty often. After I switch up my homescreen settings, launcher effects and transitions, updating applications, etc. ALWAYS before trying to flash a new ROM or hacking/modding.
So for example my CM7 was backed up with like 9 apps with updates available from the Play Store, so I updated them all. If I restore to say, CM9 for example, and go back to CM7 using that same backup file, I will need to re-download those 9 updates I did before I restored CM9.
If you are on CM7 and restore a CM9 backup and get a phone call/text message while on 9 - and you restore back to 7 - you will be missing that log/text because it wasn't backed up, get it?? Restores everything exactly to how it was when you booted in BSR, selected-> Backup & Restore-> External SD-> Backup.
something must have gone haywire with the data wipe. Those are approximately the size of my backups of 2.3.5 stock and eclipse 2.2.
I'm back 2.3.5 rooted stock now, started from scratch rather than restore.
I some how have ADW icons available that are not yet even installed since wipe...
I have a problem that is causing me a lot of stress and have been unable to think of and find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Today a friend of mine was looking through my phone and commented at how my internal storage was almost gone. He said that he could free up some space and so I obliged, as he knew his way around phones quite well. He was looking through a folder and commented that there were some .apk files that could be deleted to free up space. Thinking they were files I had gotten from downloads, I said it was OK to delete them. This was my mistake, as I should have asked where exactly these files were. He deletes the files and my internal storage frees up a few dozen megabytes. This is where everything went to hell. As soon as he finished deleting those .apk files applications start force closing one after another. Thinking it was a glitch he shuts down and restarts the phone. Upon restart, I find ALL my applications gone. The icons are gone and when clicking a spot where an application used to be, it says application not found.
My phone is rooted using DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
I HAD Titanium Backup (root) installed before this mess started.
I HAD rootexplorer installed as well.
Upon further investigation, my friend told me that he had deleted these .apk files from the phone memory under a data folder. He couldn't get more specific than that. He accessed these files through rootexplorer.
I seriously don't know what to do and am about to cry.
I thought that by reinstalling google play and titanium backup I'd be able to restore these applications but I can't even install the downloaded .apks from the internet. Tried putting it on my SD card and opening it but it doesn't recognize any program to install. I thought of using the Sony Ericsson PC Companion to install the .apks but don't know how my phone will be affected since it's been rooted using DooMLoRD's method.
Someone please help. I'm still a newbie with all of this and don't really know what I'm doing. Searches for similar problems on the internet haven't proven useful at all. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Okay. You need to loose all your data. Take back up of contacts. It should be possible with the stock contacts app. And your msgs if you want.
Then do a factory reset. You will need to download your apps all over again. And if you had taken back up using titanium backup, you will be able to reinstall titanium back up after the factory reset. And you can restore things.
Thanks,
Rick
