Hello,
I have continually been getting Messages on HBO telling me that only the Audio Feed is available. The thing is, my Internet Speeds are through the roof and it never occurred with my 3D. Also, when playing GTA III, the Screen freezes sporadically. As this was a Refurbished swapout for my former 3D, I am just wondering if something might be amiss.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
JJ
Try the app called 'AdFree' from the market? Maybe blocking the ads would help you...?
The GTA issues are pretty common right now across many devices. I hope the devs cook up a fix really soon because I can't play it with that issue. Sometimes I'm in the middle of a huge mission and it freezes. I get so pissed lol. For HBO I'm not sure, maybe the app played well with HTC sense buy doesn't like the stock moto blur (aosp) roms. Have you tried emailing the devs of the HBO app?
I have HBO Go and GTA III both and have not had any issues with HBO app. Is this something that has started happening recently? Have not had any issues with GTA III yet but have not played it that much. Maybe there is a conflict with another app on your device?
Hello,
After spending days getting the Stock Launcher and ADW EX just the way I wanted them, I did a Factory Reset per Motorola's advice.
I have not tested the Apps yet, but I am kicking myself for doing so as I really was happy with how I had the Launchers configured.
Cheers,
JJ
Audio feed only on HBO go is due to low bandwidth throughout. Basically it will steam the audio and if connection gets stronger then it will steam video again.

Hello,
That was the weird thing, the Bandwidth was/is through the roof. I ran Speedtest and the results could not be much better.
As I noted prior, I ended up doing a Factory Reset and amazingly GTA III has been trouble free and HBO GO has not had a single hiccup since. Go figure.
Today, my Otterbox Defender Case arrived and I could not be happier. I purchased a Commuter to have Protection while waiting for the Defender to arrive. I like the Commuter, but HATE the Screen Protector. I even went to the Sprint Store and exchanged it once, but I still got bubbles after a very deliberate installation. The biggest reason I use the Defender is that it has a built in Screen Protector. I do wish Vaja made a Case for the Photon, but it is not to be.
Cheers,
JJ
I was trying to determine the issue, you say your bandwidth is good. Make sure you have 4g enabled.
I cannot remember if I used the HBO app before I altered the proxy settings in my phone. You can alter them if you have your MSL.
To view them type ##DATA# in your dialer. It will bring up some fields. The field you will want to alter is the multimedia field.
I strongly suggest if you want to go back to stock settings you either write all the info down on the field or take a screen shot..
The changes you will want to make are.

What are your thoughts on the photon from a business / productivity standpoint? Was this marketed to the business user?
I initially purchased this phone to be used for heavy voice usage - i.e. 3 way conference, ability to switch and hold between calls... but I haven't been seeing the fluidity behind this. I thought the mopho was being advertised to the business market, yet maybe I haven't looked deeper. Call quality on the photon is top notch for me.. but :
My call switching during active calls have always dropped the other caller when clicking on switch user and tapping the previous one... has anyone been able to actively swap back and forth between two active calls without disconnecting the other one?
Perhaps the business aspect is from the GSM feature for travelers, but I heard from other message board chatter, that the data portion on GSM if traveling doesn't work - unless it is unlocked and served by some of the allstars here
Or maybe it's the android OS that I might be naive or just very new to that seems for me, more geared for entertainment...
I am coming from a windows mobile OS (6.5 with the HTC Touch Pro 2) - good business features and definitely helped with scheduling tasks, appointments but the OS was sluggish albeit the great cooks over here and at ppcgeeks...
I would have switched to a blackberry or was looking at the new windows phone 7 devices for sprint, but unfortunately the latter doesn't serve development for certain medical software I need (i.e. epocrates) and the latest blackberry not having, to my knowledge - flash support... which many medical websites I visit have or require....
I also recently made the switch from the TP2 to the Photon. Out of the box the Photon was not equipped with the necessary software to use it as a business device. I spent the better part of three days getting it to the point where I had my TP2 in one evening. Part of the problem is the HUGE number of applications available for the Android operating system. With my TP2 running Mr. X's 6.5 rom I could get work done without having to add too many 3rd party apps. And it was easy to select those apps because WM 6.5 has so few available.
Back to the Photon...
The included email app doesn't work for me. I am using K-9 Mail. I have 6 separate work related e-mail accounts setup with K-9 and the best feature so far is I can click on the CHECK MAIL button and each of the accounts will be checked automatically. On the TP2 I had to select the account, click send/receive, select the next account, click send/receive, over and over again. So K-9 Mail on the Photon kicks ass over the TP2.
The APG Encryption app works perfectly with K-9 Mail and this allows me to EASILY send and receive encrypted e-mails. This is a major step forward for me. My TP2 was setup with a difficult to use PGP style encryption program that required lots of copying/pasting. So again, the Photon with APG / K-9 beats out the TP2.
I really like the stationary bottom row buttons on the Photon. I have the Phone shortcut, browser, K-9 Email, and the All Apps button. I can drive and easily check in on things as needed. I spend less time looking at my Photon than I did with my TP2 so for me that's a major safety bonus.
The call quality is much better on the Photon than my TP2. My TP2 ear speaker sounded terrible. The Photon also has a stronger signal where the TP2 was weak. In areas where the TP2 had no signal I now have 1 or 2 bars on the Photon. I got used to telling people I'd call them back because I was heading into a dead zone... those dead zones are no longer with the Photon.
The Photon is MUCH faster than my TP2 to load a browser window. I hated IE on my TP2 and ran Opera. It would take 10 seconds to load the first browser page. On the Photon it's damn near instant.
I don't do many 3-way calls anymore. I prefer to either be on the top or the bottom... not in the middle.
The ability to use GSM is why I stuck with the TP2 for so long. One phone, one carrier, one bill, international coverage. Yeah, it's Sprint but where I live Sprint works far better than AT&T and it's 1/2 the price of Verizon. Having GSM on the Photon is excellent.
I would prefer a different dialer. I think the TP2 with Sense 2.5 had a better dialer. I haven't really looked at a modified dialer for the Photon but I have no doubt one exists.
The Photon does do some strange things with text messages in the way it threads them. Sometimes I'll have 3 separate notifications windows for texts from the same individual. When I view them I have to view one message, go back and click on the same individuals picture, then view that message, and so on and so forth. The threading on the TP2 was always rock solid.
The Photon has HDMI out via usb with a simple hack. That means showing a presentation via the Photon is a reality. My TP2 could only dream of streaming HDMI content. So in that regard the Photon again has a business feature the TP2 lacks.
I could go on and on... but I know I've made the right choice. It took DAYS of setup and I'm still tweaking but for the $99 bucks this is the best damn phone I've ever owned in terms of features and performance.
Aloha
Forgot to add... the TP2 had a superior speakerphone speaker. Flop it face down and it was loud enough for an entire desks worth of yahoos to listen to. The Photon is weak in the amount of sound it can produce. So as a speakerphone the TP2 wins. I am not going to install some hack that may blow out my poor Photons speaker... low sound is better than crackling sound.
Not to sound silly but for speakerphone to be louder pop the kickstand open and place phone face down
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Good tip.
I noticed this the other night when I was watching Netflix. I got tired of holding the phone and popped out the kickstand to set it on the desk. I thought maybe it sounded louder because the sound was bouncing off the desk.
The bummer is getting to the kickstand with my OtterBox installed is a bigger pain in the ass now than before. Pushing on the hinged side requires me to smash my fingernail down in there and then with another hand catching a fingernail under the stand as it starts to open.
Aloha
So here's my problem. My Ps3 has been banned from my parents WiFi (despite my being a straight A student, captain of the golf and soccer teams, and working fulltime in the summers. Any who, I still have access to the WiFi through my phone and was wondering if I could use the droids built in tethering to create a wireless access point for the ps3?
Here's the unique part, I bought the phone myself off of ebay and it has a bad esn (so WiFi only).
Is this possible? If itI matters, I have access to the network settings and can change a couple of less noticeable settings but I can't just unblock the ps3 as that would be noticed and followed up with a password change.

WIFI Tethering is through 3G only
Really? I've read on a couple sites about there being a mobile AP settings menu under the wireless and networks settings menu of some phones, this isn't present on mine (eclipse 1.3).
What about setting up bluetooth dun on a pc, and then setting up a wireless access point (on the DROID) using the bluetooth in place of 3G?

I'm sure that in theory there is a way to EVENTUALLY get it working. But if you're trying to get a PS3 working through tethering and you mention Bluetooth in that, you're getting nowhere fast. Bluetooth is insanely slow.
On a good day, my internet tops out at 1mbps max. Isn't that the top speed of bluetooth 2.1 or is it 512kbps or am I making a complete fool of my self?
If dragonzkiller says it will not work then you can be assured you will not get it to work.
The WiFi Tether app works on 3G only, as it uses your phone's WiFi card to broadcast a signal.
Unfortunately, the broadcast signal is Ad-hoc and the PS3 only connects to infrastructure, so even if you did get it to work on WiFi, the PS3 wouldn't read the Ad-hoc network that your phone was broadcasting.
Alright I concede, oh well. Can't win them all
Thanks for the really speedy responses
Do your parents regularly regulate the router? Since you say you have access to the router's settings, are the ports the PS3 uses blocked or is the PS3's MAC address blocked? If it were those situations, you could change the blocked ports or MAC address by just one number. That way it still appears like the PS3 is being blocked. In the MAC address list, I'd also move the PS3 one to the middle so that it's not the last one on the list. This is based off the simple routers I've had in the past and my own experience growing up with restrictive parentals. If your steps creak, I also reccommend placing your footing away from the middle and close to the wall where the boards are nailed and flush. Also use your hands to better distribute the weight and at least avoid a really loud creak. If they are light sleepers, put your car in neutral and roll it out of the driveway. Don't start your car until you pushed your car down the road a bit. I have a lot more advice on the subject if you want. Just don't ask me what to do when your gf pinned you down in her foyeur at 2am and your phone butt dials your evil sister that will tell mom. There's no answer for that.

Yeah, I considered that. Might do it if I get desperate after midterms end this week.
The stairway thing I've known for a while, but the car ones a good suggestion, especially since my car has a dying catalytic converterand makes more noise than a heavy metal band.
The part about the gf had to suck for you, but luckily I've got enough dirt on my siblings that I don't have to worry (too much)
One of my favorites is to wait until everyones asleep and then leave a note on the counter saying I had to go to school early to work on ____ if you end up not being able to get back before they wake up this covers you and if you get back before they wake up you can just destroy the note.
Use PC as AP
Not sure if this is still a problem for you, but do you have a PC connected to the internet? If so, you can probably set up the PC as a wifi access point. This is really easy to do in Windows 7, and even easier in Linux (if you know what you're doing). There is also a program called Connectify that you can install to do this on Windows, but if you have Win 7, then all you need to do is run a few simple commands at the cmd prompt to set up your PC as a wifi AP.

Hockey is where it's at.
I am a fan of your username.
More to the point, though, is that I don't believe this to be possible. Tethering is designed to be an access point through 3G/4G.
It would be painfully slow anyway. With 40Mb/s broadband you would struggle to get 1Mb/s if you routed it through your phone.

The toughest part about the violin for me was finger position....notes are not too close together in the first position but in the third they are right on top of each other, but if you are just slightly off in either position the note is just sour and not right...but when you're on absolutely beautiful...also bow tension pressure etc is tough to get used to....you can get a cheap one for around 120-150 but if you love music you know how cheap instruments can be and sound

SO after all the people worrying me I got mine today from Game Stop. Opened it up, rooted it, installed root keeper, upgraded to ICS and upgraded the camera. Wifi works fantastic at my work so far, and GPS locked me on me as soon as I upgraded Google Maps. It wasn't 100% perfect but it was accurate upto 20 meters.
I know this isnt a blog site, I just wanted to give some positive feedback after reading all of these nightmares forever.
Also, I am using wifi and my bluetooth mouse with no problems either.
Now we just need some love from ASUS so we can get some custom ROMs/Kernels
Told ya..lol. Glad to hear its working well for ya.

I do NOT want to be the one to rain on anybody's parade and insist that someone shouldn't love the product they just bought. Hell, I love my Prime as well, although I'm still debating whether to return the one I have with broken haptic feedback in hopes of finally getting one where at least every major component just functions at all.
That said, we do need to keep the issues clear that actually do exist. So:
1. If you have GPS completely turned off, Google Maps will still locate you to 20 meters via wifi-based location services. In fact, you might find that your GPS actually is turned off by default (I can't remember whether mine was on or off out of the box and following the ICS update). However, locking to 20 meters accuracy when connected to wifi has pretty much nothing to do with working or non-working GPS.
2. If you have another Bluetooth device to try other than a mouse, it would be interesting to see if you can stream more data (say, a BT headphone and streaming audio) and retain full wifi performance at the same time.
Nice to hear, I hope it stays (almost perfect).
Just to worry you some more:
Make sure you are streaming audio to a bluetooth from a video or something online. YOu want to make sure your BlueTooth is actually streaming something, and not simply turned on.
Check the edges of your screen. Make sure your screen is not lifting away from the back. This may or may not be a problem for your, but for my prime and some others, the glass appears to be raised above the Back Panel and can basically be pushed flush against it.
I love my prime, I love it. Except, I cannot update it cause I have no Serial Number. Even with my screen a little raised, and some light bleed on the right hand side, I would keep it if I could update the firmware. But I cannot, and have to take it back.

Everything is nice on my Prime. The one thing I noticed on the native video player when playing mkv files. I would get these lines outside the playing video. But if played from a third party player like mx player I have no problems.

Mine is almost perfect save for a spec of dust under the LCD which causes a small greyish dark shadow on white/bright backgrounds...Problem is best buy where i bought it from is out of stock...and with the unknown serial number problem seemingly becoming more commonplace...i dont want to risk replacing this one that works perfect and has one small imperfection...and getting one thats unrootable and unupgradeable...im thinking i will just keep this one and RMA it later on if need be when the bugs and issues have been worked out down the line after all the tab is covered by a 1 year warranty with Asus.

What Bluetooth device were you streaming to; presumably it was audio? While you were streaming to Bluetooth, did you do any SpeedTest runs? Would be interesting to see if you were able to maintain full Internet connectivity over wifi while streaming to Bluetooth...
my replacement ATP should be in today or tomorrow..i hope so.
They have one from a preorder that never picked up and the manager and I both agreed that it would be better not to open up one from the same "batch" but try fresh with this new batch..regardless if the units being released now are the same as before...(i doubt this from a production/shipping standpoint..otherwise if no new units were created...why the massive shortage upon release?)
the last question was more rhetorical.
Glad to see you have yours....I love mine other than what others are facing...screen separation, no GPS(none), WiFi is intermittently crappy...BT issue is intermittent..and something i haven't seen anyone talk about..i have a dead-zone right where the WLAN module seems to be. I've used both the developer screen visualizer and Multitouch Visualizer and have posted the video's confirming it "Skips" at the exact same spot and ONLY that spot.
Being an original transformer owner....I am in love with this one! IMO It is working great right out of the box smooth as butter.... I really don't know whats up with all these post about ICS being buggy,laggy,crashing.....?? This tablet is going to sell because its nice, fast, the screen is amazing and it's beat every other company off the line with cutting edge software & hardware... I'm not saying its perfect but it sure works for me.

Hey guys,
I just got a Galaxy S3 however there a lot of annoying issues. First of all I haven't rooted anything and at the moment everything is stock.
The main really annoying thing is the Wi-Fi on my S III seems messed up. On all my apps which require the internet it lags really slow. For example if I load Instagram or Facebook it'll take ages to load the pictures. The same goes for random web pages. It takes around 1-2 minutes to load a page.
This does not always happen, I would say about 3/4 of the time. This issue is also guaranteed to happen in the games Hanging with Friends and Words with Friends. I doubt this issue is the app's fault as so many other apps have problems with Internet access.
I also use an iPhone 4S as a back up phone and it has no problems at all. I've also had no IP adress conflicts so that should not be a problem. This is extremely irritating as it makes using the phone a total pain.
Another thing is that I have created a folder on my home screen and whenever I open it, an annoying tone goes "Folder Open". I looked in Accessibility and couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Please help.
Also, I noticed that on my Galaxy S III when I listen to my music I hear a slight static buzz every now and then. I don't think this is an issue when the file and headphones as I've had them on my iPhone for a long time and had no issues. Do you guys have any solutions? Needless to say it is quite annoying listening to your favourite tunes and hearing this annoying buzz when you least expect it.
I also discovered something very interesting using Android. I have 250 MB of data to use and before on the iPhone it was extremely hard to cap that. However on this phone I'm already 50% through that. I used the iPhone just as much as the Galaxy so why is this happening? Does Android have another system of using data, like loading full size images?
Cheers, Jason

Haven't got this phone yet, i'm getting mine today.
But from what you've said, it sounds like it could be a few things including your phone.
First tho, check the stuff you can fix yourself.
Firstly, try not to compare any android phone to an iphone, they're not the same and have different qualities and weaknesses, the iphone in comparison to this beast is a pipsqueak.
About your connectivity, completely remove your APN and put them back in manually.
Perform a battery pull at least once a day.
Is your sim card a new one or old? You could possibly query that too.
250MB is nothing by the way, not sure how you managed it but even on an iphone that's not a lot, i can easily use 500MB just by allowing my phone to sync normal stuff, i'd personally recommend a gig as a minimum, unless you don't mind actively managing your internet habits and you frequently switch off data altogether.
As for your wifi, pull all cables on your router and start afresh, once everything is back together, connect using your phone and perform a speed test using the speedtest.net app, see what your getting, some apps don't use the speed that's available and that's a limitation of the app and not the phone or connection.
Also regarding your apps, either remove them or remove the data associated with them and start over.
As for the headphones, they're sh** so try some others.
Not sure about the voice over, maybe check settings and see what you can find.
If all this doesn't help then try a factory reset and see if your still having a problem.
Like i said i don't have this phone yet so i don't have too much hands on experience but give this little lot a whirl and see how it goes, if nothing helps then maybe return it if your unsatisfied.
Personally I'll be rooting my SGS3 on day one, right after i've tested to see if everything works of course.

Hey thanks for taking the time to reply,
This is going to sound stupid but what is an APN? I googled it and it came up with 'Access Point Name'. Is that what you mean?
My SIM card is a Micro-Sim and was in my old iPhone 4S before so it is not brand new.
I understand 250 MB is nothing but I'm being totally honest on my old phone it was really hard to blow it. I asked another guy and he said that Facebook for Android loads the images full size so I'm not 100% sure. It's just a bit of a shock since on iOS it used such little data.
Also, I'm not using the standard headphones. I'm using Audio Technica Solid Bass so I'm sure it's not a problem with that. But please try and help me with this issue. I need music for studying, transport, school etc.
I really want to keep the SIII. The big screen is really nice and the customisation of the home screen is great along with the widgets. Just these issues troubling me.
**EDIT: Also another issue. Sometimes when I go to the Play Store it'll attempt to load and display the page with "Connection timed out." **

did you solve this issue ?
I'm having the exact same issue, I have two S3 devices .
both are bought from a different countries .. .
Both suffer from an extremely poor and slow internet . ..
it's "IMPOSSIBLE" for me to opan Google Play with no wifi . ..
it will time out if I try that with 3G network .. on both devices ..
tried soft reset + hard reset + rom flash ..
nothing worked .. .
"iPhone is soooooooooo much better than androind ..
this is my (3rd) time now ..
with S1, my phone suffered from instant disconnection from the internet
S2, people always get "this phone is out of service" when calling me
and now the lovely S3, which takes 2-3 minutes just to load google's default page ...
how wonderful !
This weekend I put my Qs to good use. We had a birthday party for my wife. We were able to play music in two different areas controlled by our visitors. Not everyone had a capable phone so we let them use our Nexus 7 tablets and our Galaxy Nexus phones to help with the music. There were some buffering issues but I have one of the routers that Google says does not play friendly with the Q. The Qs worked great.
Saturday night we were watching 21 Jump Street (using our $25 credits) in the theater room. We decided we wanted to go into the bedroom so I was able to pause playback in one room and resume in the other. This was a cool feature I didn't even think about before. Again, the Qs had some buffering problems but they only appeared in one part of the movie and never came back.
I am ordering an Asus AC router to use with this so hopefully the buffering problem will go away. I haven't heard of any issues with the Q and the Asus routers. I have three Qs in all and use them all almost daily. My kids use them all the time when their friends come over to shoot pool or play video games.
You hear so many negative things about the Q that I thought I'd add some positive. I wish Google would have extended a $25 or greater credit to the Q as well.
What kind of internet speeds are you working with?

Well then.... you should not have skips from the play store. At least not on your side lol. Either play store or the q... I wouldn't think your router since many other people reported this problem. I have an Asus router, I will update when I get my q....

The WNDR3700 is one of the routers that Google says doesn't work well with the Q. They don't state the specific problem.
are you kidding me?
you rich **** :crying:
So I got my q but it doesn't come with micro HDMI
Gotta snatch it back from my grandma lol
One thing I don't like about the Q so far is not being able to give ownership to more than one device. I, as the owner, should be able to use any Jellybean device I own on the Q. We have two Nexus 7s and 3 JB phones. I should be able to control the Q from any of those.
I'd also like to be able to stream audio from apps like Jango and Raditaz. BTW if you haven't used those apps you should try them out. They are like Pandora without commercials.
Other than that I am really liking the Q.
Update*
Streaming YouTube, play movies, and music with no issues. I have an Asus router with 35mbps cable modem.

Did you have any issues with people essentially breaking others' music choices by selecting a new track too early? We tried doing this for a party, but the devices eventually ended up in a dueling situation where people were abruptly overriding the currently playing music.

We set rules for using it. If everyone disagreed with a song we skipped it.

how many Q's do you own? - if you paused in one room and were able to continue streaming in another, doesnt that require multiple Qs?

I own three Qs. I have one in our home theater game room area, one in my home office, and in the master bedroom. I paid $193, $220, and $235 for the Qs. So I got three for the price of two. I wasn't going to buy the $193 but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I got all three of ebay.
