TF201 available in Hong Kong from Jan 11? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I've been regularly refreshing price.com.hk looking for an update on price/availability of the Transformer Prime, as well as Google hunting for any hint at release dates. I just found on unwire.hk that the TF201 is going to be available in HK from tomorrow.
Bear in mind that this is only one site, and I can't seem to find any corroborating evidence, but I'll be in the stores looking anyway.

Original: http://unwire.hk/2012/01/10/asus-announce-full-hd-screen-transformer-prime/news/
Anyone able to confirm?
Update:
Not sure if this page was up earlier, but this is the hk.asus.com Transformer Prime page (translated): http://translate.googleusercontent....TF201/&usg=ALkJrhhB4heDYdnHjBYFO-BuPp-VRUFefQ
Another article posted this afternoon claiming it's landed in HK: http://translate.google.com/transla...9/1.html&hl=en&langpair=auto|en&tbb=1&ie=Big5 (funny, nobody knew about it around Central)

GPS no longer listed on USA specs

Asus USA website no longer shows GPS in specs.
http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF201/#specifications
http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-prime/specification/
It still does here. But that is not a good signal for those who want a GPS.
lol...so who is right?
Oh, I see. The OP provided a link to the USA Asus site.
USA site was changed. I assume they will update the rest to match. Disappointing for me.
global will eventually follow same suite.

No, but Hasbro is going to make them remove the work Prime

As long GPS is on the box we can claim them to fix it
Asus: what box? We shipped all primes in un marked packaging.
Sent from my Photon
Gone from Canadian and Czech sites too.
Google requires all Android devices that want Android Market to have GPS. So they can't just remove the chip, but want probably avoid having to fix it in already shipped Transformers. :|
Seriously?
Wats is this bull**** ?
And for those of us who are supposed to have it ?
The day google realises that ASUS is screwing around their clients because it's removing the GPS spec, they are going to make a tantrum.
If you think about it, the TFP will be the first device running ICS without a GPS, and eventually without the Market.
So we will all be stuck with a useless piece of expensive hardware.
They better correct their way of doing things, because it looks like a Sony copycat. Screw the clients, we decide what happens with our devices.
Companies should stick to their guns and make sure that they actually provide the functionality. Not **** people over afterwards.
i dont know how many times i have to say this WE HAVE GPS SO WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE MARKET WE HAVE GPS WE HAVE GPS WE HAVE GPS WE WILL HAVE THE MARKET the only thing is gps doesnt work well it doesnt work well
I looked for GPS a month ago on the site, and didn't find it. I did find it on the spec sheet though. So I have never seen that GPS was specifically listed other than on the spec list. I am wondering if anything has really changed....

My only question is who the hell 1-starred this thread? In fact, who the hell is going around trying to downvote every thread that at all says something negative about the Prime? This thread is entirely factual and the OP reported something that is from Asus itself. Talk about device insecurity.
On topic: this is a really weird development, so weird in fact that I don't even know what to make of it.
It used to be listed. For me it was a requirement.
The FAQ download on the asus site contains a short section about gps. It was last updated on 12/27, is this section new? For safety, do not use while driving, insulated car windshields may reduce or block signals, and of course connect to the internet to first activate. Retailers still list gps on the primes specifications...at least bestbuy and newegg do.
Edit-Additional info- Asus site Specs list under sensors: e-compass.
So is the a game changer for some of you folks?
It seem like one bad thing after next is coming out with this cluster **** of a tablet launch from ASUS.

It is real, I don't know what regions it is a applicable to though. I do know I was able to apply for one of these GPS units from their website. I live in the US though.
To get a hold of said GPS offer go to http://vip.asus.com/
Once there, register an account then register your tablet. After you register your tablet, they will automatically redirect you to a page asking for your shipping information. Once you've filled out your shipping information click 'Submit' at the bottom of the application.
I just wanted to see a picture of it, that's all....
ASUS is getting tons of good publicity over this. The story is covered on all major tech sites now. VERY surprising how fast word travels on tech news. Exciting times for prime.

Same here. I registered as a VIP but was never given any options for the dongle
Hey Stewart,
I've been following that other thread (the one that vanished) since it popped up, and a lot of the pages were full of comments exactly like yours.
It appeared to me that some people were able to fill out a form on the Asus site last night, but after a certain point no one was getting the registration page any longer. Some people had tried calling customer service, and most reported back that the person they spoke to either didn't know what they were talking about, or knew what they were referencing but that it wasn't official yet so there was nothing they could really do (some took contact info down, but who knows about what the follow-up will be for that).
Now that the whole thread has disappeared, and especially with demandarin's comments on the fact it vanished, my general sense is that the whole thing just came out too early, before Asus had everything in place to start taking in all of the requests. It sounds like it should all be made official soon though, and my guess would be that they will put out info in the media and through this site as to how to go about sending in your info then.
So I wouldn't worry about it now. Track some of the threads (or just check in with Gary Key's unofficial post updates), and join the rest of us in the waiting game...
As said above, duplicate thread.

NO GPS dongle for Italian customers?

Hi!
Looks like there will be no GPS dongle for Italian customers. ASUS Italia's facebook page just stated the following, in reply to someone who couldn't select "Italy" as his shipment address in his registration form:
"Guys we confirm that the initiative is reserved for those territories where Prime was marketed with GPS in the product specifications. So mainly USA and Taiwan. In Italy, Prime was marketed with a GPS locator, and not with a" Full GPS", which feature we believeis useless for a tablet. People who bought Prime did so with the understanding that GPS is not present, therefore there were no unfulfilled promises or misleading statements from our side. So, we do not understand the reason of your criticism, Riccardo. Moreover, the satisfaction of users who bought Prime is very high, in sharp contrast with what you say. It means that the product performs its function very well."
Really?!?!
I have already written to Engadget reporting their statement, hopefully they'll publish it. Any other idea?
Also, if you live in any other country, and you've been told that the GPS dongle won't be available, please post a one-liner in this thread.
Thank you!

I'll never buy a single thing form Asus in my life, not even a standard mouse.
Francesco
If they do that.... they will have soooooooo many extremely angry customers, that the natural reaction would be to hate the brand for life and preach to the universe how horrible that company is... so I guess it can't be true, and if it is, they for sure should reconsider this, as it is a very bad PR action, putting TF201 users in different classes... you are first class if you are from USA or TW, the rest, you are second class... nah it would be PR SUICIDE!!!
seems like there is an update with another link to get the gps dongle~

They are probably doing it to cut costs, limit the amount of people they have to give a GPS dongle, As the updates say it's no longer limited to the USA and Taiwan, I've ordered mine and I am in the UK

Yeah, their statement about US and Taiwan was definitely wrong, but Italian customers still can't order it.
Iam in Greece and I was allowed to apply ,does that mean they will not send it???
yeah, there's actually alot of confusion going on with who can get it and who can't. seems like the only ones who cat get it at the moment is Italy.
they should just make it available for everyone and make everyone happy. limiting it to only certain countries or whatever will not be a good PR move.

Yes, that's exactly what it means...
I must have written something *really* bad on the ASUS Italia page, because they've now banned me!
All I did was putting together a collection of sentences copied and pasted from their comments to the Transformer Prime Italian users who were complaining because they won't get the dongle. Here is a translation of some of them, for your delight:
"It was clearly communicated that GPS was not in the spec list for the product. Therefore, we don't have anything to explain to anyone."
"We don't need to hide ourselves behind justifications"
"The fact that so many people see a red sky doesn't mean that the sky is actually red. It could mean that the percentage of daltonic people is high "
"Spamming is not good, nor is the bull**** that is filling up this thread"
"Inform yourselves, please. Then you can speak "
"It sounds like a subject with no grounds whatsoever."
"A customer is not always right, if he's an idiot"

If you are near Milan you could drop in on the Asus Design Week (paid for by the refusal to issue dongles?) or if you are unable to make it, take a trip to http://milandesignweek2011.asus.com/archives/ where you will find the email addresses of Asus public relations' staff - 1 from asus.it and the other asus.com. Tell them you will be dropping in for a chat

Using your link above, this thread had links to both the .15 and .17 updates.
http://mark-tech.blogspot.com/2012/05/asus-cracking-down-on-rooting-new.html
However, I don't know why you're bothering with that site...all references lead right back to XDA and threads that have been active for weeks, and some, a couple of months.
Also, if you're going to upgrade to .21, you won't need that GPS fix.
If you install the fix on .15, then Make sure you re-install the original files before you upgrade to .21, or you will lose your root.
