[Q] Android 3.1?!?!? For Evo 3D - HTC EVO 3D

Ok so I am having trouble finding a answer to my question. I need to know if there is a way to get Android version 3.1 on the HTC Evo 3D?
Does anyone know of anyway to get it. I am rooted.

well hello there rooted.

on a serious note... it has not been done... and probably won't ever be done.

Lol. Why do you think that it will not be done? Is everyone just skipping and going straight to 4.0?

Precisely, that and Honeycomb was designed for tablets....

The biggest reason we haven't and won't see Honeycomb on the 3D is because Honeycomb is closed source. I believe it can be done but would take way more work than its worth.

Well actually I think 3.2 source was released with ICS source.
However, developing is always hard and even though it is open source, it will still probably be extremely hard to get on our phones. And since there's no demand, nobody is making a honeycomb ROM.
While Honeycomb would be cool to have on our devices, it would be hard to develop and there is little demand for it so I wouldn't expect it.

Because Honeycomb sucks on tablets why would we want to put it on our phones. It is strictly a tablet OS and would make our phones run like crap not to mention no support for app data on the sd card. Everyone that has a tablet with Honeycomb is counting the days til ICS drops just like the phone guys.

[Q] When Tab 10.1 have update to Honeycomb 3.2 OS?

As title, anyone know when? I see some tablet from HTX or Galaxy already have it!
we'll have it the samsung way. i.e when ice cream comes out, we'll be given the 3.2 update to 'cheer up'.
I won't mind if the tab doesn't see 3.2
I just want ICS when it is released. But of course with Samsungs track record, that'll be next year ;P

Wishful thinking!?!?!
It'll come when it comes... Why is everyone always crying about when the next update to a device will come?????
I don't really have any issues with my Tab now. I love it, works perfect and does just about everything I need it to do. I haven't even rooted it yet and really haven't had a reason to either.
Instead of worrying about when the next update is coming just try and enjoy what you got.
Anyway every time an update comes for any device (either tablet or phone) the post about "how it wasn't what was expected" or "its buggy" or its..... Well ya... Anyway all those threads start clogging up the forums. But I have to admit those threads do make for some good reading....
On second thought... COME ON SAMMY!!!!! Give em an update already....
Side note: please feel free to flame!!!

I had read in another thread that google made an agreement with manufacturers that they have to give updates to the newest version of Android within 18 months of it's release. Now then they said "It's release" I hope they mean the device, and not the Android version.
But I don't see why we wouldn't get ICS, as it'll really help in terms of Android tablet sales, because it will bring on a TON more apps for the tablets, which is the weak point in terms of Android tablets selling.

Make a donation to PhantomHacker, he is working on a vanilla 3.2 ROM. As for the other questions, we will see ICS running on Tab eventually, the devs will make sure.
The dev's can only develop if they have the source. But that's not the only hurdle! The dev's will also need Samsung drivers for the tab 10.1 too. To get both we need Samsung to release an ICS kernel source (I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong). You can see what happens without the source now as the 10.1 development is pretty much stagnant.

Yeah, I get the sense that a good portion of users here don't really even do much with their devices other than futz around with rooting, fllash alternate ROMs, and obsess over benchmark scores. It's good to optimize your tablet/phone/magic wand but the point of these things is to use the apps, mainly.

To all: why need to care about my profile?
I don't know my Tab got issue or the OS or ..? Cause: view HD video, sometime the video are freeze but the sound are okay, quit the video player then the sound of video still playing =) Need to restart Tab to view again, anyone got it as me ?
I had an Asus Transformer which was quickly updated to Honeycomb 3.2 to be really truthful aside from transitions being a bit smoother I didn't notice much difference in day to day performance over 3.1. I'm much more intersted in seeing Samsung get ICS pushed out asap as soon as it is ready.

Looks rather neat honestly.
Yes that is what I meant lol, spell check for the win. I went to their site and looked at the devices supported and they had someone listed as an official Porter, but he said he could not help. I'm thinking we just gather a bunch of people who are also interested and see if we can't justify a reason for them to port it for us.

Dude, this makes me want a Galaxy Nexus even more... I can't see this working all to well on the Vibrant because of the lack of screen real estate... ROM looks sick though.. *sizzle* hawt!
Actually I think it would work just fine. I had added an early version of a tablet mod to my phone before and it worked fine for the most part.

Looks cool, but do any of you guys know if its been ported to the I9000 or even any other SGS device? Not the SGS2 but the original, if it has, it shouldn't be too hard to port it.

No I do not know that, according to the thread they are nearing the height of development and expect to be able to port it everywhere... Currently, only device they have taken it to is the Note.. This rom should catch on, I only threw that prior comment about screen size not allowing out there to get some attention.. Lol..

Yep, I understand. I was just saying that if it does get ported to the I9000, which if probably going to happen if it comes to the original SGS family at all, it won't take more than 20 minutes to port it, and thats with the upload time being like 10 minutes.

Ditto.. I have wanted something like this on my hardware since Honeycomb 3.0 but Google never released the source for that and the 3.0 ports for the Vibrant never made it off the ground... However, tablet mode on ICS implements UI elements from 3.0 and the API's and frameworks were released for 4.0.. This ROM is a stroke of genius with it's "Hybrid Mode".. My eyes are peeled with excitement!
Yeah hoping their next release is the milestone we need for a port. Just read o e of their nexus threads and their next release is supposed to be a game changer so keep your fingers crossed.

Guys, the Nexus S has been added under supported devices! They have a thread going over there!!
I'm not sure but I think the I9000 forums have a way of porting the Nexus S ROMS. Just hope I9000 gets it.
I was looking into it how they ported that Joy OS mod and Lewa OS mod but I have not had time to fully implement their techniques... They do seem to have ways..
Not everything can be done for us users but it would be great if this from would garnish some looks from some of our more seasoned devs..
I am considering rolling up my sleeves and messing with some packages on this one though if it is not picked up soon ...
why the hell not.. although....
That whole EU ICS error going around in the Cappy section is kinda scary though.. Very little coverage on these Vibrant threads outside of Moped mentioning it and one small topic...
That is the only thing that is freaking me out with flashing anything and moving away from my current setup...
The EU is a problem on vibrant also. If you go to the aokp thread you will see lots of people have gotten EU with the last build.

Yes, that is what is spooky about it.. Like I said earlier Moped_Ryder in our development section discussed his reservations about using any additional ICS rom in his thread for his rom due to the EU errors people with Vibrant and Cappys are having.. He also commented on a users topic who posted about a brick question in the Vibrant dev section which seems to be another EU error.
.. As I also stated earlier there is hardly any info/awareness outside of random posts here in the Vibrant section on XDA...
FYI
For anyone who gets a "reset phone" message on their Vibrant, whatever you do do not hit reset... Try restarting the device into recovery even with a battery pull without an external SD card plugged in.. I hear Odin back to stock is one thing to consider in case of these events or even using SlimIcs has proven to get the phone back up is but the internal sd may be gone so a etc/Vold.fstab editing may need to happen to boot off of external sd's...
Disclaimer... for anyone who had not read up on the EU errors Vibrant and Cappy owners are having, research it... EU stands for Encryption Unsuccessful and it seems too many data wipes may be the culprit.. many users have expressed going back to 2.2 and even Gingy in many cases, it seems to have less strain on our internal sdcards...
MP the developer of the Subzero kernel is also aware and looking into it perhaps being related to Kernel versions 3.X and up... This is something to keep an eye on folks... His effort is probably not a solitary one...
See more in these two guides...

actually google took honeycomb and completely married it to ice cream sandwich, the two are one. ics on a tablet is the same that runs on a phone. theres a tiny switch in there that acknowledges a certain display-lenght treshold and then it drops the entire UI into tab mode. this was known for a longtime but unfortunately it trashes your phone. hybrid mode means we have hooks and rewrites sitting on top of ics aosp code, we recompiled the framework, and this stuff makes tablet mode more flexible - you dont get overlapping, apps wont be too small, you can adjust fontsizes, you can switch an app from mobileUI into tabUI and back. PA on top of it gives support for things that still break, it has a fixed market for instance, a fixed keyboard, a fixed launcher, etc. its an all-in rom for this kinda stuff.
battlekry leaving this is your hands as I wouldn't even know where to start.

Android 4.2

Any thoughts about the new Android 4.2 release from Google?
Supposedly rumours are saying that it is faster/quicker than 4.1, and of course it has the different new functions like the notification bar changes and multiple users. For me the most interesting part is if it is (or feels) faster than 4.1. No mistaken though, 4.1 feels fast on my TFP, but faster is always welcome!
Hopefully Asus will throw themselves over this one and get to work quickly, considering that this time the changes are not so huge, hopefully it won't take as much time as with 4.1.. even though 4.1 from Asus was probably some of the fastest updates in the Android-industry, which I am eternally thankful for, since JB seems to have fixed all my problems with the device (still have the browser lock-ups, but only seen it 2 times since the update.. which is nothing compared to 30 times a day before).
I was just thinking, that since there still was no thread about 4.2 here in the TFP forum, I figured that it would be a nice welcome to our discussions, and I am certain that Asus will give it to us as soon as they are able to get hands on with the code from Google! Considering the device is not even a year old.

your right it will take them ages to update seeing as we have only just got 4.1.
hopefully the drivers and code will be very similar to 4.1 so we might see a CM build soon.. didnt take long for CM build of JB after release as a lot of the code was similar to ICS. it was the jump from GB to ICS that was the bad one!
time iwll tell

I got my Prime back in May, and there was already an ICS update for it. We just got our Jelly Bean update not too long ago. We might even see the 4.2 update by 2013. I am excited for the multi-user capability. That would give us something the iPad users don't have.

Yes, you are correct I am just hoping for a nice discussion about the new things that was announced in the update from Google I am by no means trying to bug Asus about the update, as I believe it will come when they are ready for it, be it a month or 4 months.
I am mostly looking forward to even more speed and snappiness (even though JB did miracles for me), and I am also looking forward to the changes to Google Now + the ones done to the notification bar. For me the pad is only used by me, so multiple users is not of any interest to me.. as I look at the tablet as I do my phone.. but I still find it a useful addition, as I believe many others.. for example families that share a pad, will find it very useful!
I'm not asking either I'm just hoping for an update and expressing that hope in this thread. Let's hope we get it! I like my tablet as it is but software support in this fast moving android world is important, if Asus continues to update their tablet to the latest and greatest android for as long as the hardware can decently run it, I'm probably buying Asus again just for this. I don't mind their little **** up with the wifi and the memory (for me it's all sufficiently working).
Give that Google is callign it an update to JB, I am hopeful that those devices already running JB can get it pushed out to them fairly quickly.
In the long run google would like to see less fragmentation and a more cohesive Android echosphere. So if we do a holding pattern around JB, with upgrades and added features, for another year or two, I can imagine that those on 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 and of course 4.0 will upgrade to new devices running 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3... all JB.
I think 4.2 is terrible. I don't want a blown up phone UI on a tablet! Tablets should have specifically tuned ui's like they do now.

On this issue, didn't I see somewhere where HTC was releasing plane-jane ROMs for some of their devices? I wonder if petitioning for one of those would get a response? No, not a leak. I flashed plenty of ROMs based on leaks to my Dinc2.
So it was in this article here, which is about HTC setting a 512MB RAM bar for their devices to receive JB.
I thought this quote was interesting: “Chou and Co. also noted that they plan to post "generic development ROMs" of Jelly Bean for the One X and One S to its developer website as soon as they're fully baked. “
So if they are posting "generic development ROMs" why can’t they do that for devices like the Dinc2? Anyway, just something to think about asking for since they are obviously putting them together.

Cm10.1,Photon kernel

So as I understand it, the Photon has drivers issues which is why we dont have a port of for instant a droid bionic version of moto ICS, or moto jellybean. I am wondering what we need to get a kernel going. If this happened this would open up the possibility for doing webtop on a non stock rom.(Which I really would love cm 10.1 with ubuntop) I have been using linux for many years and am familiar with compiling and modifying kernels and packages I am just still new with android I came from the Epic 4G. I just would like to be pointed in the right direction or maybe someone who already makes kernels has attempted this and we could work together.
Thanks for your time.
You need source from Motorola and whatever company it was that Apple bought. You can try the Compendium thread for kernel links but as of now a new kernel is highly unlikely.
So then maybe we should look into writing our own? I mean if they can do it why can't we?

There's a thread over in the Atrix 4G forums where some people are working on a port from the Galaxy R kernel. You may want to follow that thread and offer your assistence there, because chances are that any progress that benefits the Atrix will benefit the Photon in the long run.

In theory that is sound, but the Atrix has a much newer kernel version than ours from the start (not sure how that happened with our device being more recent release). If you're planning to try, make sure that you have device protection or a good number of devices to work with....they've already hard bricked one or two from what I had seen.
What drivers are required, and I assume you mean for a 3.x kernel?

Yeah, he said he had something special for us, but never told us what it was.

maybe, jut maybe some day it will be leaked.
after the screwing Moto gave us he might as well post it. wtf are they gonna do? lock our damn phones?
My guess is it just never panned out and the guy didn't want to disappoint us. This was around the time of the Atrix leak, and that never amounted to anything, and a bunch of people got let down. It's my theory, which is far from concrete, that the leak included Photon files as well, that also never amounted to anything, but less was said here, so fewer people will be let down. I'm personally not worried. Come whatever may. My phone may not be able to do MMS or camcorder, or run Chrome or Swiftkey Flow, but I like it. It does the things I want it to. And it looks sexy as hell. I'd appreciate this mystery kernel or whatever, but I'm not gonna lose sleep if some mad scientist is holding out. Not saying that's what cybik is (I actually don't know much about him), just saying neither of the two extremes affect me much. And they shouldn't affect y'all either. If you're locked I'm sorry, that sucks, so is my brother, but you can run Holo Launcher/Locker and use either utter!, Maluuba, or Dragon Go! for voice commands/personal assistant, Notification Toggle for, well, the toggles, and Dolphin for your browser, and that puts you fairly close to Android 4. Motoblur can't keep a WiFi lock to save its life, but there are apps for that... I'm trying to test one on my wife's phone, but I'm not getting very good data from it. If you're unlocked, you have a lot of good choices as it is.
I may be an Atrix owner, but if the 2.6.39.4 kernel that is being dev'd for the Atrix is a success, couldn't you take the post-dev'd 2.6.39.4 kernel and port it to the Photon?
