I have used a way to enable init.d support in the current ROM without using the kernel functionality. This was used in the Atrix during the days when the bootloader is locked. Attached is the file which you can flash with some tweaks on a ROM.
can i just flash this in stock for init.d support or is this just some tweaks that get put into an existing init.d tweak?

Various Kernel and RAM tweaks, low memory tweaks.
They are all over the forum. The point here is that this will enable init.d and you can yourself include your own tweaks.
I've been trying to read up on this to learn more about init.d
...looks like this file tweaks SD card read, virtual memory to conserve power, something about zipaligning....?
What are some other practical uses?
I'm itching to be able to tweak my Razr more.....dang bootloader........
Edit: Found this link, maybe helpful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227269
What is the advantage of flashing this?
Dont most Roms already come with this stuff done? Atleast I see with the cdma roms it seems like. Ahh so its similar to this?

There are a few scripts from other sites that have some workarounds & tweaks but init.d has to work first. Just looking for some independent verification before I take the plunge.

Now overclock on motorola razr/droid razr/razr maxx is possible. All the three devices have the common method to overclock!
Here is how you do it:-
1. Download script manager (VIA Android Market Its Free)
2. Download Overclock zip on computer move to root of ext-sdcard on phone
3. Download your desired overclockprofile (You want the overclockprofiles to be on your internal sdcard not ext)
4. Flash OverClock Zip in recovery no need to wipe anything5. Go into script manager scroll down to the overclockscript you want to use select it
5.A pop box will appear from where you have select "SU" then select "BOOT"and top right hit save then reboot your phone
6.. Enjoy!!!!
Optional Use quickclock advanced to overclock you device ( If your going to download and install quick clock please do not open it until you have done all the other steps it will make thing more difficult )

If you're worried about the battery then use SetCPU instead of Quickclock and set a profile of 600-300MHz when screen is off. You're battery life will become awesome!

Not that mush. If you overclock it will use more battery, but it will also get the job done faster and therefore sleep longer.
You will probably see bigger changes depending on reception then overclocking.
Created myself a flashable build.prop script, that I thought I would share. This script will take your phone to the extreme, and make it feel like new. Everything is faster, even web browsing. Also, some minor battery tweaks are included, that might allow you to see some increase in battery life.
The script will add various tweaks I have found scouring the interwebs. Most of the tweaks can be found here.
Some developers may have already added these tweaks into their roms, but I haven't seen a rom that had them all. The script will not duplicate any lines in the build.prop file to avoid confusion/issues.
**Please note: testing is limited, as I have only ran this using Amon Ra recovery.
That said, a backup of the build.prop file will be created in the "/system/" directory called "build.prop.old". If you have any issues, you can always revert back with a simple adb command or using root explorer app.
**This should work on any rom that has busybox
**v2+ can be flashed over v1, it will not overwrite your original build.prop(.old)
**might have to turn off data then turn back on after flashing v2
**init.d script will worrk on any rom/kernel that has init.d scripting enabled
PRO's (may be different, on a per rom basis)
- overall smoothness of launcher (sense, nova, golauncher, etc.)
- faster internet speeds (speedtest.net app)
- better touch response (this was downgraded in v2 because of battery life complaints, but I set mine - back up (see changelog, post 2))
- faster application load times ("where's my water" takes about 1/10th of load time for me than prior to tweaks)
CON's (may be different, on a per rom basis)
- system may be unresponsive for GB rom users (remove the line "video.accelerate.hw=1" from the system/build.prop file [near the end of file])
Disclaimer:
As always, use at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that might happen to your phone.
Requirements before install:
- Must be rooted (99.9% of roms allow root access)
- Rom must have busybox (already installed on 99.9% of roms)
Installation
- download zip onto phone
- reboot into recovery
- (do not wipe anything! this is not a rom!)
- flash the zip
- reboot
- ????
- profit!
If you have any additional tweaks, or if you see I have some settings incorrect please let me know! I'm always trying to take my phone to the extreme!
Un-Installation
- use root explorer:
- go to "/system/" folder
- delete "build.prop"
- rename "build.prop.old" to "build.prop"
- reboot
Change log:
v4 (8/25) -
- modified net settings for faster speeds
- enabled swap and swap management
- added extra sysctl tweaks
- included tbp_fix code
- more
tbp_fix.zip
Run this after flashing turbo prop (no need to run for v4+), if your minfree settings are being overwritten. See this post.
v3 (6/19) -
- modified max events to 200
- added init.d script for more tweaks (your rom/kernel must support init.d)
v2 (6/2) -
- added 4g network tweaks
- modified "windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec" to 150 (try to save some battery life)
this change might reduce performance a little, if you want you can modify the value back to 240
v1 (6/1) -
- initial

It should. If not, you can undo the changes. All it does is modify the build.prop and it saves a backup before it does anything.

Hello
I've just got a 101 G9 Turbo and just SDE/rooted it, but there seems to be little in the way of performance tweaks.
I've got an LG Optimus 2X phone and theres all sorts of tweaks in the init.d folder and was woundering if theres anything we can do to the G9 to give a bit more performance?
Something like this?? - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730872&highlight=dalvik
Will the above work on the G9?
Most of the tweaks in general android section should work. Personally i prefer using Supercharger, which works fine for me. I do not see reason why the tweak you posted wouldn't work, if the system supports it. If there are problems with the script starting, use script manager to run it on boot.

...the problem I always have with tutorials is they tell you how to install/do stuff but not why you should i.e. the benefits.

Here is a custom kernel based on the latest GT-N7100 sources for the Note 2. I've taken a lot of stuff out, so if you like playing around with changing 500 things on the kernel before you start using your phone, look somewhere else. It pulls in Beoffla Sound and Simple IO Scheduler and removes as much debugging stuff as possible, non-default CPU and IO schedulers, and Ext2 Support (Ext4 handles Ext2/3). I've also gotten rid of recovery over-write on boot and enabled adb root by default.
There is no overclocking support, overclocking is useless unless you're pumping up your e-peen. There is no undervolting support as it hasn't been shown to do anything useful on multi-core systems from everything I've seen. There is no init.d support as 90% of the init.d scripts are useless. It will continue using stock boot animations as well, though I'm sure it wouldn't be to difficult to make stock android boot animations work. That may even be possible without any kernel changes anyway.
The only issue I've run into is that exFAT SDcards may not work with it. I've been trying to figure out why, but it is slow going when I don't have an exFAT card to test with. If anyone would like to help fix it, flash and get me full dmesg and logcats. If you don't know how to get those, but still want to help, see my SDK Guide for a general overview of what to do.
This kernel is built for TouchWiz ROMs, and should work on any available VZW ROM currently available. It works for VRALJB, VRALL4, and VRAMC3 from my own testing, let me know if you have issues on a TW ROM and I may be able to fix it. For a download, see below. I also am not posting in original development because IMO, that entire forum is useless and confusing.

Update your recovery. TWRP that is flashed via the unlock method does not process asserts properly (it was compiled for a different Note 2 model). This is meant to keep people from flashing this to the wrong device.
My exFAT SDcard isn't working
See the OP, I need info to get exFAT to work properly. Until then, format your SDCard to FAT32
Where are all the options?
You can't read, I already said there are none. This is flash and forget it.
