Okay I've looked for a long while and I am really confused as to which model of Razr I have. I am on Rogers, in Canada.
From what I have gathered, the Rogers version (XT910) does NOT support LTE.
But what is really baffling me is the fact that right on the back of the phone, it says 4GLTE and there is a Verizon logo beside it. And the model number displayed there is XT912. However, when I go to check the About Phone. It says the model number is XT910. I'm worried about different things (fastboot files, rooting etc) as to which to use for this phone.
I also read about possible Pre-release models of phones with build dates from Oct. 26th or before (mine is oct 25.) So I am starting to think this may be a pre-release model.
Anyway, the overall question is, which model is my Razr? XT912, as stated on the back of the phone? Or XT910, as stated in About Phone? Is there anyway to ACTUALLY confirm?
Edit: Photos added.
Picture 1: As you can see, the model number says XT912. Also the whole 4GLTE + Verizon logo, as mentioned before.
Picture 2: And here, the model number says XT910. Also a bunch of other stuff you may or may not need to know.
Picture 3: I am on Rogers, meaning this phone SHOULD be the XT910...but I am still not so sure.
If you're using it on Rogers, it must be an XT910. How it ended up with the XT912 backplate is another question entirely. Pics?

Also would you mind going into Moto Recovery by turning off the phone.
Turning it back on by holding both volume keys + power key. Choosing AP Fastboot and tell us the Status Code it says. Sounds like a unique phone

Mine displays XT910.
You know what? I'm almost certain I have an XT910.
But...I'd like to hear some possible reasons as to why it says "XT912" at the back xD
I'd like to believe that i actually have an XT912 hardware model (with 4GLTE) with just the phone displaying XT910 by mistake. But I doubt that's actually the case.
I vote that someone was asleep on the assembly line.

You should be proud...you have a very special phone...if I were you, I would make optimum use of the device...and also, I think its a XT912...the software can be anything....could even be Windows Mobile 6.1...doesn't mean its a Microsoft device...
Enjoy buddy...and congratulations...u have a 4G device!!
I doubt it's (entirely) an XT912, since it'd surely have the Verizon logo stamped on the front, too, and the OP would surely have mentioned that.

You certainly have a XT910 with XT912 backplate. That is one unique device, i'd love to have that Verizon 4G backplate on my XT910,too.
Well, I certainly feel special now, knowing that I have such a unique device XD
If it REALLY is a 4G model, would I not be able to select 4G from the mobile networks settings? All I have available to me is 2G, 3G, and Automatic. Or is it simply the software displaying only those options? Is 4G actually there, but unusable? XD Or am I just getting my hopes too high?
Thanks for all your inputs so far!

It's an interesting scenario, to be sure, because there's speculation that the XT910 (GSM/UMTS) & XT912 (CDMA/LTE) are actually the exact same phone. Story goes that the 912 contains GSM & UMTS bands in its multipurpose radio chip as well, and they're just disabled at kernel/software level (though it's possibly disabled at hardware level too).
It's conceivable that the reverse could also be the case, and the 910 could contain Moto's separate Wrigley LTE chip as well as the all-in-one GSM/UMTS/CDMA, although it would presumably save money to leave it out as it's a separate, specialty component.
Whether any of this is true is up in the air, but one thing's for certain - the 910 contains a LOT of software references to both Verizon and CDMA, so it would not surprise me terribly much.

Wow. Lots of stuff to keep me thinking/wondering xD
Assuming that the LTE chip is actually in there, and it is disabled at hardware level (but it probably isn't, because as you said, it would probably be cheaper for them to just leave it out), would it be possible to enable it?
I mean...I wouldn't go through the trouble of opening this thing and actually try, but for reference, and just plain curiosity, would it be possible? XD
I'll see what I can dig up re: the inclusion of the LTE processor. The Wrigley chip itself is pretty obvious if you know what to look for in a tear-down - outlined in blue here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5198/motorola-droid-razr-review-a-better-clad-bionic/6
A quick look brings up this post from Chipworks: http://www.chipworks.com/en/technic.../11/teardown-of-the-motorola-razr-smartphone/
Now, this 'seems' to be an XT910, but doesn't really specify either way, which is mighty strange for a site that's so particular about identifying each & every component. The XT910 stock image is used, and it's referred to as a Motorola RAZR rather than Droid RAZR - definitely includes the Wrigley module there. Curious.
As to whether it could actually be used... who knows. Anything's possible, but it might need hardware modification, which is further complicated by the sealed casing.

Whoa! The breakdown of the device's internal structure is mind blowing...thank you buddy...and I think the LTE is just disabled through the software....i recollect a faint murmur of the fact that the devoces will be the same, just that thrle radios will be enabled/disabled according to the country...so what you can do, try an actual XT912 ROM...
Remember, I am just advising you to.make sure you have a XT912. No way in hell.will I be responsible for any screwup....

Doubt a rom will boot, but won't brick it. You'll just end up having to reflash a compatible rom. Radio on the other hand... I wouldn't attempt.

I think you're forgetting those are 3g phones. If you flash a 3g only radio on the thunderbolt, it's not going to work out. Maybe the rezound would work because it has the same LTE chipset, but I'm skeptical and it's not something I'd really want to try.

I honestly don't think its been officially tried. No kind of previous docs stating "oh noooo, bricked my phone" or "wont boot" nothing. Just angry mods saying "if that worked, they would've let you know by now"

if i'll go ahead and try it out would you guys suggest a phone that is related to thunder bolt the most(hardware/sofware wise)??? Is it Resound or is it DesireHD???
i hate it that only a few ppl have the thunderbolt outside of the us or a zone without a CDMA company im from Romania and i did unlock the phone using the XTC - Clip but the radio...its messy i tried to change it to gsm and it just returns to the previous selected thing...i tried shutting down radio then selecting GSM and then turning it on ...it stayed GSM but no signal
Any of the GSM abilities outside of LTE in the chipset for the device would be locked by the radio firmware. Firmware is of course proprietary to Verizon and modding it is technically illegal I believe. That doesn't mean you can't go and try to flash something from another device, but I'm not going to be the one to try it. Only one worth trying is the rezound though. I'm not an expert on radios in embedded devices, but if the radio is isolated totally from the system, then I don't see why it would not work as the higher level RIL libraries on the Rezound are the same.
However, don't take my word for it and run and flash and blame me if it bricks of course
Hello, i'm looking for a RAZR to replace my 4-months old Atrix 4G, i'm a Telcel GSM user, sooo... i don't need a CDMA RAZR...
I went to ebay, looking for prices, models and stuff like that, i saw that the XT912 models are cheaper than XT910 models.
After looking for both specs from PhoneArena, i came to the conclusion that XT912 is CDMA and XT910 is GSM/CDMA, am I right?
Since I don't trust some auctions in ebay, because some people lists the wrong model, etc. I'm justs asks if they RAZRs have SIM trays for GSM use, this is a answer i received:
Yes the sim tray is in there just not the sim card. It is the XT912
Soo... my question is, the XT912 model is GSM-capable???? because like everyone else, i don't like bad surprises...
What should I do? Try looking for the XT910 model?? Most auctions are for Canadian RAZRs XT910... i'm curious because i don't plan to spent +$300 for a phone that don't support GSM... Thank you and sorry for my english
Yes, 912 is CDMA, 910 is GSM. Don't get the XT912, it'll be an expensive paperweight.
Long story short, they may well have exactly the same hardware, but A. We have no concrete proof either way, and B. Getting a device in the hopes that sorta kinda maybe there's a possibility it might be of use to you in the future is an expensive gamble, especially when the bootloader is locked.

I'd like to replace my Droid X2 with the Razr MAXX, I see this is one of my options on verizon for a "world" phone.
I never expected my career to literally and figuratively "take off" as it has, and now I really need to adapt.
I want to be able to just use prepaid SIM cards when I'm in europe, but being the nerd/geek/technomancer I am (depending on who you talk to)
I just want to be sure that I can still screw with this thing without inhibiting my ability to use DATA and VOICE overseas on a GSM network.
I see that these roms are GSM/CDMA specfic, and if I switch to a GSM network, do I also have to switch to a GSM rom?
and yes, I will void this fukker's warranty the day I bring it home, I can't remember the last computer/tablet/phone that I haven't done that to.
I REALLY like my Droid X2 with the extended battery + CM7, It has been without a doubt the single most reliable phone I've ever owned. (so many people complain about it, but I think they just suck at technology) There isn't a single thing (aside from flashing a new kernel) that I haven't been able to do with/to it. Right now, my biggest dislike about it is the cracked digitizer (it fell out of my pocket onto a concrete slab approx 50ft below me, and all it did was crack the digitizer, thing still works FLAWLESSLY) so I'm pretty sold on motorola despite all the hate.
so are there any globetrotting verizon customers out there that have experience with this or am I going to have to just go out on a limb and do it? if worse comes to worse, I'll just buy a galaxy note and use that in the EU when I'm here, and use my razr maxx when I'm not.
I always have been and forever will be a fan of anything motorola that has the ability to Tx/Rx... they do radios right!
I think that you can't change CDMA to GSM, both are different technologies, that's why there are specifically ROMS for CDMA and GSM.

i believe lots of over seas people would buy the verizon maxx and use it via gsm because the gsm maxx took a long time to be released.
so data should work fine (and voice to) just no US gsm carriers.
and Dany.zam
both versions have the same radio, it supports cdma and gsm, gsm is just blocked on the verizon one (for us use), and i believe cdma is blocked or not given an esn number for the gsm one.

I don't think the GSM one has a CDMA radio at all, as it would be pointless in markets where its sold.
well, I can always SBF it if it comes down to it, or just have two phones. I like the galaxy note better anyway in terms of hardware/features (I like having a stylus, keeps fingerprints off the screen surface and is good for some of the dirty nasty sweatiness that work gets me into)
Ok, I'll be back in the states in less than a week, Gotta buy a new phone anyway (was using my Droid X2 as a camera and I broke it, dropped it off the top of a fully extended genie lift onto the concrete below) so.
I see there's "2nd system" support using the webtop partition, so I can keep a "daily driver" rom and have another one to experiment with correct?
anyone know of roms that work well on BOTH CDMA and GSM after the radiocomm hacks?
I will be buying this thing full retail from a verizon store.
I give zero fukks if it works on ATT or any US GSM carrier, I only need GSM for european travel.
can I use prepaid sims in europe or should I "rent-a-sim" from one of those sim rental outfits?
if anyone has any real world experience with flashing/hacking this phone and globetrotting, POST UP!
it must work for in-country voice calling, and be able to provide wifi tethering everywhere I have signal.
I will be mostly in germany, the netherlands, france, great britain and spain outside the US. (in order of frequency/importance)
This is a world phone stock, it contains both GSM and CDMA radios, I'm more concerned with how different custom roms interact with the radio and if they work properly for Voice, MMS, SMS and Data on prepaid sims vs. "contract" sims in the european union.

I'm not sure why you would want to. The XT912 has GSM functionality. I use mine in Germany on Telekom with no issues what so ever. The XT912 is sim unlocked for any GSM carrier outside the US. Plus, from what I've read the supported bands on the XT910 don't play nice with US GSM carriers; I believe you are limited to Edge data speed. (Don't quote me).

Yes, I know GSM is unlocked outside of the US, but I travel in and out of the US frequently, (several times a week sometimes) and well, as soon as I get in to the US I am SOL...plus, I really dont want to roam with data, as Int's data roaming is an arm and a leg (literally).....
Also, the price of the XT is crazy expensive, where if I could buy an XT910 with lest say a broken lcd and in bad shape, I could just swap boards.
Its not hard. I have actually taken and repaired several XT912's, BUT, NEVER have a had my hands on an XT910....

I'm guessing you are trying to use the phone with either ATT or T-mobile in the US as well as maintaining foreign carrier. If you have taken apart and repaired Razrs before then I would say go ahead and try it out. http://www.etradesupply.com/motorola/android-models/motorola-droid-razr-xt910.html?p=2 There is a good site for a lot of Razr parts.
So what happened? Did it fit? I would love to know if a xt 912 sceen would fit into a xt910. @jessel did you ever buy from etrade? how was it?
yes! it works fine. i am using verizon razr with xt910 mainboard.

That's right.... I want LTE bad. The entire reason I switched to T-Mobile was for LTE. Now the issue is after the sim is activated, LTE disappears.
$50 Amazon gift card if you develop a fix for this. $25 if you give a solution that works!
Let's figure this out! I can't afford an S4 or htc one now....
I don't mean to sound negative or pessimistic but, the LGOG using T-Mobile's HSPA+ service is pretty damned fast as it is... and yes I'd like it to work on my LGOG since it did work not once but twice with two different T-Mobile SIM cards for periods of time but, if you're in an area serviced by T-Mobile's current LTE rollout then you're also getting HSPA+ service too so...
"How fast is fast?" is the question I end up eventually asking people: how fast do you really need the connection to be for a smartphone? What are you folks doing with your smartphones that requires more than ~15-20Mbps?
Also...
Can anyone that is rooted/unlocked (bootloader) and has a recovery installed boot your device into fastboot mode and see if it shows a baseband listed at all? Mine - which is running the stock JB 4.1.2 presently and using the stock JB AT&T radio shows N/A which makes me think there's something going on in there or I busted something during my multiple flashing phase over the past week or so, I don't know. Here's what mine says presently:
FASTBOOT MODE
PRODUCT NAME - mako
VARIANT - mako 16GB
HW VERSION - rev_10 (16)
BOOTLOADER VERSION - MAKOZ10o
BASEBAND VERSION - N/A
CARRIER INFO - None
SERIAL NUMBER - YADDAYADDAYADDA
SIGNING - production
SECURE BOOT - enabled
LOCK STATE - unlocked

Now I'm wondering about two aspects there: the MAKOZ10o reference which could be related to the older ICS bootloader since that was a V10o thing, maybe it was updated and now IDs itself as Z10o, I don't know for sure, and of course the fact that it doesn't show a baseband version at all. I don't particularly believe that's what's causing the LTE to crap out and die but, I can't say for certain.
But I'm interested in seeing if anyone else's device running the stock JB 4.1.2 (mine has been flashed with LGNPST directly, not as an OTA - the device could have been 4.0.4 > 4.1.2 by OTA from the previous owner, I have no idea), and of course I can't say for certain when the LTE just stopped working but it was within the first day of me owning the device and before I ever flashed anything or rooted it so I will say that rooting it didn't cause the LTE to stop working and that was the first step in the flashing I've done since I got it.
Still, it's odd that it works then just stops working and never comes back...

For the most part, it's fast.... But it's line having a Porsche with a speed limiter.... Who wants that?
Mine didn't have lte bone stock. I just rooted mine and booted into bootloader and I do have a line of letters and numbers with the baseband.
Bounty is going to be void unless someone has a solution quick! I put it up on craigslist and supposedly someone is going to buy it. Guess I'll have to fork over extra $ for a One or S4
I'm on T-Mobile LTE has never worked for me (been on it about a week). I get week 4g in town and most the time it wont even load ANYTHING! 2G is garbage...... My fastboot shows baseband version as n/a also. Unlocking the bootloader via freegee simply flashes the nexus aboot image which likely hasn't been modified. Does Tmobile LTE work on the nexus/nexus conversion? I know free also flashes a modified boot image but it simply removes the wallpaper.bin file from the phones bin directory to allow removal of any apps (its checks for videos, apk etc etc). I haven't tried flash the T-Mobile modem in the modem thread (.38 or something?) but I am assuming it also wont allow for LTE? Do these phones share modems with nexus or are they just cross compatible? Does the phone run LTE stock? I'm not familiar with at&t and do not know if they have a LTE band. Is it possible the hardware has just been removed on this model for LTE and those that get it do so without the antenna? I know there is another phone where that is the case but I cant remember which one of the top of my head.
Guys really need to quit buying e970s and thinking lte on tmo will work.

As I just noted in another post, the LGOG is fully capable of LTE service on the T-Mobile frequencies - it's a damned Nexus 4 in a different package, with the same hardware radio and I/we can even run the T-Mobile radio firmware as well. That's not the issue.
The issue is that for many of us it DOES work at first but then the LTE stops working and I/we would most certainly like to figure out why it's happening.
Probably tmo trying to force you to buy a phone from them.

Doubtful considering that's one reason they refarmed their network in the first place, so potential customers could bring their unlocked ATT devices to the T-Mobile network and have great service, LTE included. The "uncarrier" has great pride in that fact and have gone through great lengths to advertise it. The issue the OP is having appears to be LGOG specific as I hadn't heard of or seen any other devices with said issue, thus the bounty.

The reason you guys are losing LTE is T-Mobile is slowly switching to a diff band. And it is one this phone doesn't handle. As they convert towers to the new frequency phones that do not handle all the US LTE bands get left behind.

Since this double-posting and chasing people around threads gets tiring.

I hadn't seen any information to back this up, feel free to direct me to the info if you'd like. I find it hard to believe as T-Mobile just refarmed the network to support the same LTE bands as att and are still actively advertising the fact you can bring your unlocked device to their network without issue and with full support. In addition individuals are reporting LTE service that works fine initially then ceases generally after reboot or within a few days. The odds of these bands being changed just as users switch in multiple locations to multiple users are slim to none.

I was told this by technical support when helping a friend that has an e970. Whether it is accurate info I guess is now in question. Sorry if it is not.

No worries in the long run, we just like to make sure people do get accurate info. T-Mobile uses band 4 for LTE purposes, and that'll fall within the 850 and 1900 MHz bands they're refarming aka repurposing from primarily 2G/EDGE network usage towards more HSPA+ access which would also get more LTE support there as well.
And yeah, it's irritating as hell knowing it did work and now it doesn't, very frustrating. It's the only thing I haven't been able to get addressed with this LGOG so far and it flat out pisses me off.
Bounty is OFF! I sold the LGOG and picked up an ATT S4 for $185 off CL! Only slight damage to volume button but other than that clean, not stolen and LTE works! Until I bricked it by flashing the wrong rom but it's in the mail shipping back to me repaired !!
I had it running on Simple and I would mainly get terrible edge a I guess HSPA since it would say 4G sometimes. Didn't get LTE until I went over to AT&T.
