using prime instead of phone touchscreen ? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Basically i hate my work supplied phone (buttons dont respond , touchscreen is crap etc etc) the only good thing about it is the unlimited data plan , so what I wanted to do was tether my prime to the phone via bluetooth or wireless then be able to use my prime for making and recieving calls . So far i've connecte via bluetooth but that doesn't seem to do anything for me.
Any ideas ?

You'll need something like phone to phone "Teamviewer" app

If you got google voice you could try sipdroid

Texting from the prime

Have you guys found any good apps to text over wifi with the prime? On my phone and laptop, I use mightytext, which works wonderfully...but I need to expand my texting!!!

I used textab which uses bluetooth from your android phone to text
Sent from my Galaxy S2
Yea texttab is the way to go, with bluetooth you dont even have to worry about tethering, also the response is very fast. I use desk sms for when i am on my laptop but text tab receives my message faster than Desk Sms
I'm using Google Voice for texting.
Google voice all the way!
I am using tablet talk. It lets you use wifi or bluetooth plus it has a nice simple ui

I use KIK, its not text messaging per say but it works good. Its more like Instant messages between the platforms.
I use this to chat with my daughter on her Ipod touch.
I have not tried this yet (still waiting for my prime arrival) but I plan to give text+ a try. Sound interesting with calling options. I do have GV, so I'll give them both a try. Anyone tried text+?
So how does exactly can you use google voice to receive and reply to text messages of your mobile phone? Do you just forward your sms to the GV number?
Airdroid
I've found Airdroid to be superb on my Optimus 2X (although my Prime won't be arriving until next week)

Well SMS from your phone won't show up anywhere but on your phone, how GV works is you setup a number and have it connected to your cell number and all text go to your cell and GV. So you can get text and calls on any computer, phone, or Android tablet.

I use SyncSMS, it was the pioneer of tablet to phone texting. It uses your dropbox account to send and retrieve texts from ur phone to ur tablet as long as ur tablet has a wifi connection. Been using it since OG Transformer came out. I used it when I went to china. I left me phone on at home and got the texts in china; had great conversations in china with many people back home. People found that cool.

You need a radio for it to work. And as the Prime doesn't have any 3G radio it is not compatible.
As far as I know and as I have experienced it with other tablets I owned: Whatsapp is not intended to be used with a non-phone device.
Therefore it is marked as not comaptible with tablets. I have never been able to install it on any of my tablets direct from the market. I have once tried to install it from an other source (apk file, of course I will not say here where I got it from) on a tablet with 3G support. As I was running it as well on my smartphone it soon became deactivated on both devices with a note saying that two installations of whatsapp are not allowed.
So forget it, anyway.
see my posting under themes and apps working on it. Did some things i got it working!!!!!! Just few minutes ago
Too bad, would work through wifi, but i guess it activates with the phone number, and thats why its a hassle..

use phone keyboard as Bluetooth keyboard for prime?

I have an HTC desire z and I was wondering if it was possible to connect my phone to the tablet via Bluetooth and use my phone as a keyboard and touch pad for the prime?

Not that I know of...you should start coding.
Yes you can! There is a free app called tablet remote, lets you do that and much more. Very good imo install on on both tab and phone and you can use phone to control prime and also other way too.

[Q] Splashtop not working correctly since update .21

Hey all,
It seems that since the latest update .21 Splashtop Remote stops working after connecting with my PC. This happens when I log into the PC with my google account. It has worked extremely smooth before.
Any suggestion/people with the same problem?

Hi, I got the same problem when using the my cloud app, the HD version and the THD version from a remote locaction. 3 bars of connectivity are required otherwise the apps do not connect or give a black screen. Before they were all working properly with less connectivity bars. However on .21 ones connected it works fine again, though I do get disconnected every 20 minuters or so..

Aren't their anymore ppl with this problem?
I did see one post saying fw .21 has decreased wifi performance, it would seem unlikely as it went from 20fps? to about 1 frame per minute.
I don't exactly know why, but the problem seems to be over for me. What I think I did was to connect first on a LAN connection and then connecting via my google account. After a few tries that seemed to work for me.

Update .21 is the latest update (although another is right around the corner) and the one you need. I don't have mine yet, so I'm not too sure, but as soon as you connect it and slide the locking mechanism over then it's connected. You have to turn your GPS on under your settings and it should be using the dongle. Have a walk outside, put it on and slide the lock, turn your GPS on and run GPS Test or something similar. Remove dongle and test again, you should see a huge decrease in performance if it performs without the dongle at all.
to be honest i have never seen any problem with the gps, i know its not really a great benchmark but seems just as good as my galaxy s.
i will run the tests with and without but didnt seem any quicker to lock when i popped outside a while ago. wasnt sure it was actually working which is why i posted this. wondered if it showed up anywhere similar to when the dock is in place.

.22 is the latest update. It was forced so you wouldn't have seen it happen. Being rooted doesn't stop updates. I am rooted and it updated itself days ago. It contained the fixes for the dongle to work. For those who are unlocked, you have to wait for your ROM writer to add the code. Gary has said that ASUS are looking to release a version of NVFlash for those who are unlocked.

Really? I suppose you're one of the rare few who has relatively decent GPS reception somehow. Good for you lol, I hate you
I suppose the only way to really be sure is to disconnect the internal GPS from its antenna and then use the dongle. Surely there would be a way for the system to realize the dongle is inserted and to let the end-user know about it. I mean, they tell us to type words with the keyboard, I just can't believe they're not telling us we've plugged the dongle in. I wonder if some kind of Tasker profile couldn't differentiate between it and the dock, I doubt it?

Um, what? .22? What country and are you sure you don't mean .21? I keep my Prime's WiFi on 24/7 and my DMClient unfrozen, just manually checked and no update.
i am unlocked not rooted so i cant get anymore updates from asus. am on the latest .21 . updated before my prime was so kindly unlocked.

Any good?
Does the dongle make a marked difference in reception?
none at all as far as i can see.
could be
1. not working / user error
2. my prime gps was working ok to start with.
hoping there is someway to get feedback from the prime to let me know its using the dongle

I have the dongle
It definitely helps my gps but it dose look bad.
Maybe a company may start making skins for the dongle to make them more attractive and protected. Exposed dongles isn't good. It' not immuned to bumps and bruises.

My bad. Typo on my part. Of course it is .21!!
i think the dongle is well designed. locks in place and fairly discreet considering. could have been an ugly block like a usb stick or the camera add on thingy for the ipod.
i found it makes a nice handle when reading a book

I'll pull out my inner demandarin real quick to say do not apply direct pressure to the dongle - don't use it as an actual handle!
That being said, IMO it would be OK so long as you have larger hands and are pretty careful about it, just don't go trying to support your entire tablet with it. Don't support the tablet at all with it actually, seriously, going to feel terrible if you accidentally crack your screen lol
well didnt actually mean just the dongle. just adds a bit of a ridge to stop and slippage while holding
