Ok i would like to know why when recording in video using the highest settings . How comes the finished file is so big . I recorded a 3 min video yesterday and it was 320ish mb . Why is that when a full feature movie is only between 700mb and 1gb. Does not make sense
Edit. I should add is there anyway to make the file alot smaller but still keeping the highest/best settings

Movies at that size aren't full 1080p, in their rawest form they can hit 40-50GB. This is simply the same with your videos.

That sounds about right ... 3 minutes at 320 meg, if you follow this line of thinking ... 90 minutes would be 9600 , about the size of a retail DVD ... and just to follow, a 1080p Blu-Ray movie can be anywhere from 24 to 50 gig ...
The movies you are thinking of that you may download off the interwebs at 700mb for a two hour movie, are compressed using a codec such as DivX, which sacrifices true quality for size ...
You can't do this on your phone, if you want to copy it to a PC and compress it, then go for it ... But you will end up with a compressed lower quality image ...
This is all common sense stuff, if you are that concerned about how and why digital video works this way , I would suggest doing some research on that subject, on sites dedicated to it ...
I've often wondered this myself,i recorded some vids on NYE in London in a club i was at and the file size for 4 videos was over 2GB which is a lot, ive plenty of space seen as ive a 32GB card so can just copy them onto that

I have a bunch of children's movies on my computer for my daughter but are all .avi
I've tried about 5 video players and none work. What program can I use to convert these so they will work with the video player? Will handbrake work? If so, what settings?
I use V player for all my movie watching, seems to work great on solo my.avi files.

Sorry didn't read right. AVS works well for me.
Do you mean video players on the phone? The stock one plays avi, m4v, mp4 and mkv just fine for me.

Handbrake works well for converting movies.
Do some searching - I've got a Handbrake preset that works well for the GS2 somewhere in here or General

How are these files encoded? What ROM are you using? What happens when they "don't work?"
I've yet to come across an AVI file that the stock Video player didn't play perfectly, something doesn't sound right here.

I always use Handbrake to encode videos/movies (H.264). I use the Apple TV2 setting in Handbrake. If the movie had a good soundtrack, I'll keep the unaltered dolby digital (AC3) "track" along with the two channel Dolby PLII AAC audio. Less exciting movies just get the AAC two channel audio. A feature length movie will be roughly 1GB. I store them on a media server for TV watching and load a few on my phone too. You could always go lower resolution/higher compression if you wanted a phone only version.
The ATV2 setting works great on
1. ATV2
2. PS3
3. GSII with Mobo player
The stock player on my phone had some problems with the videos (the ones with AC3 streams if I remember right). Mobo plays everything I throw at it. Free.
For the computer, VLC is an awesome video player.

I'm not sure how they are encoded...downloaded from kickasstorrents. I'm using the UnNamed ROM.

Yup, that's the preset.
You MAY likely be able to enable some features that improve quality/compression - the preset there is guaranteed but may not be optimal.
Enabling 8x8 transform and CABAC seems OK on my Galaxy Player, so should be OK on the SGSII.
At some pointas you start enabling extra compression features, I haven't figured out which setting it is yet, one setting will cause audio to lag by a half second or so.
Hi,
I recently got my S3 and I watch a lot of series on my old phone, I always convert the movies to the best quality. Are there any recommendations for best quality?
get 720p copies
get mxplayer
play it as it is, this phone should have no problems doing so
best method for converting, is to drag and drop the originals. the built in media player handles everything I throw at it, and any converting will just reduce the detail.
Get Mxplayer and use software decoding, no need to convert even 720p movies.
Regards.

By "smaller file" you mean compression? If so, Handbrake is free, and uses the h.264 codec, which is what plays best on the phone.

I'm going to have to agree here, I use handbrake for quite a few things definitely the best I've found for 3D conversion from large to small files
I've heard Handbrake doesn't work on the EVO 3d file format. Has anyone used it?

Works perfectly for me, been using it for over a year. Just make sure you choose the h.264 codec, and set the resolution to match your source.

Thanks, I will try Handbrake with codec settings.
U must be aware of the amzing gameloft 3d games that worked great o gingerbread and the 3d was great too !
But they keep crashing on ics...WE MUST REPORT TO GAMELOFT SO THE DO SOMETHING FAST !!!
Please do see this link : http://forum.gameloft.com/index.php/topic,60231.msg175773.html#msg175773
Thanks.
If it helps, it's the video that crashes... Ics doesn't like avi encoded with mp3 sound. You can convert the video yourselfand place it in the right spot on your sdcard, and it works.

Gameloft themselves have stated that there games are crashing !
Yes they are. But it's the opening video that crashes. Take a logo video from a game that works and put it in ad's game that doesn't. Wrong opening video, but you can play

ST. JOHN / U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS in 4K - This one is really amazing. Anyone who says 1080p is pointless on a 5 inch screen needs to watch this. It almost looks 3D

you can use tubemate to download at 1920x1080 resolution. I use it for longer videos because even on my 50mbps home connection, youtube doesn't buffer worth sh!t.
Tubemate isn't in the market, but is on several other sites including getjar and amazon appstore.

Thanks for this tip. Streaming from YouTube was good quality, but using this app to get the full 1920x1080 files is stunning!
