Root now or later? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Just got mine today, wanted to know if I should root now, root keeper then ics or if I should just wait for a new root to come out. Thanks

There's a new root method out that works with the latest firmware update.

Why would it be bad to root a prime that can't find the serial number. I know it's a really dumb question, but I'm just asking for the sake of curiosity.

Okay thanks, just wanted tomake sure, I remember reading about some bricked primes and they blamed it on updating while rooted

To my knowledge there isn't a ROOT utility that works with primes with "Serial Number Not Found" issue.
Correct me if I'm wrong...

Cant Root Permission Denied

I was rooted on this Thunderbolt and went back to stock since the phone isn't really mine and I really didn't want to play the support role any longer. The owner of the phone now installed the latest Verizon update which is pretty good but the owners misses Wifi Tether so I agreed to re-root the phone. Everything is well until I try to do the "dd if=/data/local/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17" command in adb, the md5 checksum is an exact match but I get a permission denied error which I didn't get before.
Any idea how I can get around this? Thanks!
I had the same thing I'm not sure what was the Cuase but I did the 3 click root and worked for me hope that helps

I just used the root procedure in the development section. It worked fine. Sounds like superuser didn't take. Try again and make sure you do exactly what is written.

if you want to keep root id suggest you wait on the update till its prerooted other wise you will lose root for good untill an exploit is found in gb
Yes, but sbf can still be done to root again.
I'll bet GingerBreak works on it. I've rooted a dozen of phones all different makes and models and versions with that handy all in one program.

This is false information. On the 23rd testers where contacted and told the test was not ready but we would be be notified when it was. So no need to worry about going back stock just yet.

In theory it could work, but the d3 can't be rooted, but then again its using the omap processor, so its time to wait and see

Every android device could be rooted, practically if you know mac, or linux its just typing su (super user, and i believe it might be sudo (superuser do)) does that answer the question, if not then yes
No word about MP3 or video recording issues, either that or I just read too fast and missed it
I think the OP's question was, can he update, or will he receive an update notice if his phone is rooted? I would like to know this as well.
Also, I am confused or not reading a clear answer, will this version be rootable? I think it is 2.3.3...Gingerbread.
I like root on my X2 too much to update right now if there is no root.
Thanks in advance for any clear answers and explanations.
I am so excited I am going to start my sbf now. If they are posting it on their website they have to be really close with it.

Gingerbreak used to work for rooting Gingerbread but they fixed the exploit in the latest versions. So right now there isn't any way to root. Your best bet is to wait for a custom rom to come out with Gingerbread pre-rooted.

New update available

There is a update available. I'm sure everyone here knows how to do it but for those who don't go to settings/about phone/htc software update. It just says its a security update. I'm gonna download it now

Of course not.
Try checking if wifi calling is enabled now.
Try the one click root method to make sure htc didn't screw us already.
Just updated my amaze at work, no wifi calling on newest update.

No wifi calling here as well, but I still have an old sim card.
No wifi calling in the update, Nov 13th it will be coming out. I didnt really notice anything new in the update. It didnt block us from anything. you can still do the perm-temp root in the dev section and unlock bootloaders through htcdev, so not sure what the update is.
Could it be to address the whole security issue htc was having? I updated and didnt notice anything either.

I would seriously think twice about taking any updates if you want s-off. Chances are they found an exploit that one of our dev might take advantage of.

[Q] To Root or not to Root? that is the question?

Ok can you lot give me a few good reasons to root my transformer prime and install a new ROM. I've been looking at some of the ROMs and they all look kinda.... **** lol no offence. they just look to much like the prime unrooted but with a few changed to colour really :/
i rooted my SGS2 and installed the muiu ROM i think its called and thats great i llove it. it looks different and that's what i want
someone prove me wrong please
Do you want full control over your device? The ability to get rid of the asus crapware and run your own things? I too rooted my SGS2 after about a week of owning it and haven't regretted it.
With root you can install adblockers, backup tools (proper ones), overclocking
If you're technically minded and want to get the most out of your money then root, if you don't want to risk damaging your Aluminium piece of sexy then don't.

Rooting is definitely the way to go, doesnt affect your ability to get ota's and what not, if you want to unlock i say wait a lil bit longer to find out when or if ASUS is going to release nvflash to us, granted it definitely looks promising giving Gary Key's latest update.
That said if you want to unlock you can still get AOKP from jermaine just not from here, whether he is still supporting the rom is an entirely different question
hmmmmm ok i dont know i suppose i could just get root access and keep it as stock then. im going to have to find out how to root this now sigh lol research.. i'll look it in about 3 hours lol
I would highly suggest you root it since if any things happen you can just factory default the tablet and it'll be unrooted
So there's really nothing to loss rooting it
Just make sure after you root your device you backup the root so you don't loss it after you update the prime
lol you lost me after backing up my root. =/
i just tried to use sparkyroot but it doesnt seem to be working. im going to look at other methods.
dont think i can root it can i im currently on 9.4.2.21
Check the general thread, there is a way to downgrade and then root it without unlocking.

Honestly surprised its not done now, when GB was released it was like 2 hours and we had a rooted version. That was back when we had like 12 devs tho, now we have 2-3.

To my knowledge, we only have one dev who is sorting out the new OTA.
Allow me to quote his exact words here...
"It's not just an RUU or a simple zip file that can be restructured, rooted and posted.
It has over 200+ patch files that have to be dealt with as well, all of which are encrypted.
Including the build.prop"
So with that being said, it will take a little bit. I know he's working as fast as he can.

Also GB was released as an ruu and this update is a set of encrypted patches. Big difference in the process necessary to make it usable.

All a conspiracy by VZW and HTC to piss off us Thunderbolt purchasers enough that we buy new phones!
Seriously tho, I am about to go crazy waiting for this release now for what, 7 months?
