Troublesome handset. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
Neebie coming in...
I just got my hands on the SGS2 2 weeks before x-mas. But the last week it has started to jinx... It randomly reboots, the app "Talk" seems to start randomly every 10 minutes or so. Accuweather is extremely eager to show the forecast. I have tried a reset to factory settings, installed Lookout, but it just wont stop.
I can not delete the apps, as i have not rooted the handset. My employer wont allow rooting because of warranty issues.
Have any experienced similiar odd behaviour, and if so, is there something to do, without rooting, and then deleting these apps permanteley, or should i return the handset?

Not heard anything like that before! Will your boss allow you to update the firmware? You can download a stock firmware and update it.
Make sure your signed out of Talk, accuweather, go into settings and set sync to manual if you can.
Enter recovery, volume up + home button + power button and do a reset from there.

Well, my first guess is to do a factory reset.
If you have Google contacts, all your contacts will be backed up so no harm trying.
btw Lookout won't solve anything like this.

If you return the handset the first thing they will do is a factory reset .
Accuweather reads like settings .
Lookout wont help .
I would check for an update on KIES if you have already factory reset .
Failing that its a service centre as you dont want to go down the no warranty fix routes .
jje

I just mentioned lookout incase someone would point out malware etc.
Ill check the firmware thingy.
Cheers

I can't factory reset the phone from the privacy menu. And even in the android recovery it stays at the triangle. Apps in the market say insufficient memory when I have tons of all memory left. Resetting the phone unger the privacy manu doesn't go anywhere when I hit the button. Also keep getting geolocation problem on my beautiful widgets update.
At the triangle(recovery) press down volume up and down at the same time

EDIT 2: I not will add to this post because you have already used SBF, and know how to.
If still face problem after hard reset, charge battery and try flashing sbf again. Actually it shouldn't be happen like that. Try to erase data from moto-fastboot....

Keep using the old version until the new version takes effect, after a factory reset, it takes a while.
I say this from experience, use the old green version for a while, just browse around, and restart the phone. Use the green one, and close it out, soon you will have the new version of the Android Market, if not just find it online.

[Q] Reseting the stock app locker password

Hi guys,
I recently tried out that stock app locker app on my prime and while it functioned as it should. I didn't use any of the locked apps for a long time which made it easy for me to forget the password. After several attempts to remember it, all have failed. Before upgrading to ICS, i could easily go to the apps section under settings and kill the process for the application there by enabling me access to the locked apps but after the ICS update, this is no longer possible. I simply want to know if anyone is aware of any methods to reset the applications password. I have googled and done a lot of searching still to no avail.
Any help will be much appreciated.
The prime has been only out a few weeks surely that's not long enough to forget, anyway I believe the only way is with a factory reset. I'm sure there is such a warning when you first set up App Locker.

I know right? Was sleepy when i set it up. Probably not the best time to have done that. A factory reset will wipe the slate clean. If i do a back up and wipe then restore after the factory reset, that wud b useless right?

Galaxy S 3 Crashes when copying to clipboard!! Help!

About 2 days ago my galaxy S3 started crashing the app when i would i would copy something to clipboard in that particular app. Happened in messages, contacts, and I'm testing what other apps.
but no1 has figured out a fix yet. I am running go launcher and have a feeling that, that might be the issue. I really don't want to factory reset -_- but if I have to i will. anybody?
if you think that Go luancher maybe the issue, why not just download another launcher from the market and see if it goes away while your running that launcher ---- i would do this first instead of a factory reset.

just tried apex launcher, and even went back into touchwiz and the same problem occurs. ill hold down a message or a contact. press copy message text or whatever else, and the black screens and a FC. Stock browser and stock contacts. I tried copying text from an email, but the interesting thing now is if i go to long press in any composition field i don't get a past option. Just a "clipboard" option and pressing that doesn't do anything
Have you tried Wiping Delvik Cache and fixing permissions in CWM??
I had the same problem and a factory reset sorted it out....try doing it

Hi everyone,
I also had this problem, I found a solution without do a factory reset.
The app in question is TestService.
First you have to clean the directory /data/clipboard, delete everything in it with root explorer. After that, go to manage applications and find the app TestService, uninstall the updates.
After a reboot, copy/paste should work again.

Try this before you do your factory reset, seems to have helped others with the same problem.

What did you do? Having the same problem since last week. I hope you can help.
It will crash whatever you try to copy from. The factory reset was the only thing that fixed mine seeing as I didn't want to root my S III immediately.
|Trolling With A Smile|
read the link, there's a fix in that forum for rooted users
same problem on tab

Same thing happening to me on my samsung galaxy tab. Started two days ago, as well. Samsung tech support told me to reset to factory. I don't want to, I have too many apps, picture, videos etc on my tab. BUMMED I read about stopping testservice. Did that, still no joy. Said to clear data/clipboard folder. I checked, and NO clipboard folder can be found in my data folder.

Cant dwnload or update apps from Google Play

Hi guys and geeks, its time to work your magic and fire up your amazing brain cells. I am totally new here and its my first post, so please dont be that hard at me if ill screw something up
So my problem is after a 2 weeks usage of international version of my SGS3 i got a big problem. It started totally from nothing, to be specific it stopped through day.
Yesterday morning i was updating 1 app from Google play and i left my phone on desk.
I got back to it in evening and found out that 4 apps cannot be updated from unknown reason. I tried manual start of download- nothing, it will not start to download. just rolling the bar. I also found that i cant download any new app from GPlay.
I made a factory reset of phone today. Set it up, and its ready to go. IT STILL CANT DOWNLOAD THAT APPS. Why? Wifi is working normally (ONLY WIFI), can browse websites and so on.
Anyone help ??
Goto settings/Application manager/Google Play Store and select clear data and cache then see if it works.
Just google server problem mybe. Just wait

I cleared data cache already, and it doesnt worked. Server problem? HUH.... maybe.... Though i highly doubt its server problem because i was asking a few my friends with android phones about this and their market is ok.
So got any ideas? Cuz im now stuck with empty phone after fact.reset and i cant work on it though.
Bump! Any suggestions?
Goto App manager again and uninstall updates.
Nope, i also combined it with phone restart. It cant download apps or update them.
go to settings, accounts and sync, remove google account. Add account again and it should work.

Did it twice now. Result? Phone likes to roll bars. But thats all he wants to do. Still cant start download.
So i contacted Samsung Customer Support about this and i described it at whole. The guy said he would do exact same thing and i have done good. He gave an advice of taking out the battery for 15 mins - it would reset the device and pull it in and try. Still nothing.
Any idea out there? Because if i will not be able to do more, im sending this damn phone to for service repair because i have 2 years warranty. This is truly f*cking unbelievable. My first Android device. Upgraded from HTC HD2. 600€ phone. Crap.
Had a similar problem a few days back where it just gave an error message. Went into settings / all apps and cleared data from Google services framework. Rebooted and it was fixed.
Edit: just remembered, the above solution may have helped but it didn't completely fix my problem. Had to reboot into recovery, the in the advanced tab had to run 'fix permissions ', then all was fine. Only thing I could think of that may have caused the problem was flashing and testing cm10 before restoring my backup.

Tried Google Service Framework, didnt helped.
So i got into that recovery mode but there was no advanced tab. Only something like reboot now, wipe cache, wipe partition, factory reset .. Tried Wipe cache, and so on... Didnt helped....
Check your memory. Make sure there's at least 600-700mb left. My S3 kept giving me update errors whenever my internal memory fell below 500mb

Well if you want to start fresh, flash a CF root kernel and wipe cache, dalvik, system and then a factory reset. Flash a new rom after that. Don't reboot your recovery while doing this because you've wiped 'system' . What ever problems you had should have gone. I normally follow this procedure to make sure for a full wipe
Hope this helps

Sir, i have truly no idea what are you talking about, im just getting that i have to load onto phone some loader and then flash some new rom which im 100% not going to do since i have fresh 2 year warranty and im not planning to break it.
I have already decided. Im calling authorized service center about details for sending my phone to get repaired. Either they will fix it, or ill get a new phone. Only good and Better.
So after few frakking days im back...
SUDDENDLY after 2 days of my last post it started working again like a charm. Downloaded most of the apps.
Then next day, it was gone again... Stopped working...
Also now its error 495 but after a very long time of rolling the bar ,like 10 mins.
AAH MY GOD HELP ME PLEASE WITH THIS!
IM totally absolutely desperate !!!!

Hi, I had the same problem as you and I 'fixed' it by Stopping the 'Downloading' rolling bar and then resuming it. I found that fixes it
Let me know if this works :good:
I wanted to try it but there is no pause button though, look for yourself

All right, there has to be a way to get this working since I had the same problem too
Try this :
Turn your phone off and on
Open Play Store and go into the screen where it says "X Updates available" and they are listed in rows
Click Update All and then the blue loading line starts to animate. Wait for a few seconds then click the X next to the first item that is downloading to stop it
Click Download/Resume again
It should start downloading.
The above steps worked for me, I got the S3 day before yesterday and I came across this problem for about 10 minutes 'til I did the steps above
Let me know how it goes :fingers-crossed:

What to do...toss the phone?

My phone has been hacked into and it seems they can enter whenever. I was given a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000m by a friend, and it's running Froyo 2.2 and the hardware is that of windows (NOW), not my doing. Would an upgrade get rid of those who switch my settings during the night. Should I put a different operating system in...most of this being as clear as mud to me! I can't even download apps without them knowing and they would just join the rest of the grayed out ones. I am beginning to think how far would a Galaxy S skip as I toss it across the river.
Any suggestions would be of help as to what to do about this dilemma.
Have you done a factory reset? I would definitely suggest doing that. If you're rooted I'd make a backup and factory reset. See if that clears up your problem. Also once you have done a factory reset change your passwords to your email (Gmail etc ..) accounts. Whatever you do don't change your passwords until after you've done a factory reset because it may lock you out otherwise for 72 hours.

Let me know how that goes. Factory reset usually takes away any type of spyware on a device if something's been installed.

Thank you, I have done a factory reset, used *#*#7780#*#*, and *2767*3855# many a time with no luck. Whoever it is put a small package in my phone and I only have half the features available. I have tried to erase the ram but get caught. As far as passwords they got into my GMail through GSuite and I have 2 step verification on it using printed out codes. I've notified Google.

I'd do a factory reset in stock recovery.
I believe you can get into stock recovery by pressing volume up, power and home buttons all at the same time then release em all when it reboots. Should get you to stock recovery. I dont use dialer codes. I've been messing with phone's since HTC Evo and Galaxy S2 days. I've never had a virus that a factory reset didn't wipe out. (And a change of my passwords and security checkup.)
Remember if someone logs into your gmail account it will have your phone model as the device that logged in but it's NOT.
I always delete all recognized devices too...
Hope that helps. If so please hit the thanks button as I'm trying to be able to make posts on here and can't till I have 10, not on certain threads anyway.... Lmao.
I hope you solve this issue though.
