GT-I9100 = International unlocked
GT-I9100T = AT&T model
and this topic is in the wrong section
How can it be the AT&T model when I'm using it here in Israel?
They are also used in Australia by Telstra and Vodafone. Only difference is that they need different modems to get reception. You can flash a i9100 stock or custom rom on the T version but will then need to flash a T compatible modem over it.

So just different bands on the GSM spectrum? I flashed CM7 onto my phone before and everything seemed to work.. still I preferred the stock ROM and flashed back. Today I got a text from Cellcom saying there's a new version of firmware out.. so I tried OTA update and got the no new versions message. I also tried Kies and it said "it is not possible to upgrade the firmware on this phone" or something like that. I already have 2.3.5 though...

I'm also in Bangkok and i got i9100T. The difference is the 3G connection of your Carrier. If you are on AIS, you get wrong one. i9100T will not work 3G on AIS and it will work only on DTAC and TRUE as they have different version of 3G signal. If you are not using 3G connection then you have no problem using i9100T else you need to switch to DTAC or TRUE. When I buy my Phone, the Vendor asked me which Carrier I will be using and I asked for AIS. However, they gave me wrong one i9100T and now i have problem with 3G on AIS. It does not work any internet connection when I am at 3G area. My Vendor promise to change on next week. At least I learn what is difference as they gave me wrong model else I may not analyze the difference. Hope this help you too.

Its the same. The only difference is the Model which controls the baseband you use. Just root and flash the international modem so its mostly compatible with all networks.

AT&T's Galaxy S2 is not GT-I9100 or any variants. Its SGH-I777.
GT-I9100T are sold in Every part of the world except the Europe and North/South America. Theres no difference at all from the international version.

Is the hardware on I9100T different than I9100 as far as supported 3G bands ?

Looking for modem file for SGS I9100T that will work on Telstra

All bands are enabled.
Contrary to NZed;
There is a slight difference between the 9100 and 9100T. Not in hardware, but software. The specific T modems are generally more tuned to the 850MHz band than others due to different SAR levels.

Please read posts 8 and 12 again.
Or read this thread, which goes into some depth about what the differences (negligible) are. You can flash an I9100 ROM to your I9100T phone, but you will probably need to flash I9100T modems afterwards to get decent signal.
Hi everyone, first post here but I assure you I have been searching and searching through this site for some time with no real luck so I decided to post in this thread rather than start a new one as it is closely related.
I too have the i9100T and I can assure you it is not specific to Australia. This model is available all over Asia. I am in Thailand.
I was rooted before and experimented with a few ROMs but decided to just skip the hassle of all the bugs and weird problems by reverting to the stock kernal. It works best for me. However I appreciate being rooted and would like to root on ICS 4.0.3
I am currently on the DCLP5 kernal and I can not seem to find that specific corresponding CF-Root kernal over here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
If I am right and there is no CF-Root DCLP5 kernal which kernal is the closest that I may use?
Sorry if it seems like I am thread hijacking.
I have been searching for awhile and can't find the answer myself. I'd rather not start a new topic as the answer could possibly be there and I overlooked it.
If anyone can inform me of which is the closest kernal i can use to gain root I would greatly appreciate it!
Please and thank you!

I can't find CF-Root for LP5, so you're probably right. You can try SiyahKernel, but I don't have an I9100T so I don't know if that's safe.
Your best bet is to flash an ICS custom ROM from the I9100 section (there's loads) then flash the right modem.
Or better yet - use AOKP (Jelly Bean).

Hmm, I see. Well, nevertheless, I thank you very much for your help.
Are there other methods of achieving root?
For example, In my desperate attempts I came upon this method... ( galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-newworks-on-all-galaxy-s2-variants/ ) ... but it only works on early gingerbread versions. (Kind of misleading IMHO)
I just need root, I don't mind which method as long as I get the final result.
Again, thanks for any help and advice.
Try to use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature.

Sorry, but oinkylicious' question is a VERY valid one. Given you are on AT&T, it begs the question: are you SURE you have a GT-I9100?
There are many different models of the Galaxy SII.
The GT-I9100 is the international version (I have one), which happens to work on AT&T's network, but you would have had to buy it internationally, imported it, or bought it through a re-seller.
AT&T sells two different AT&T branded models of Galaxy SII. The HSPA+ version of the Galaxy SII (SGH-I777), and the LTE version of the Galaxy SII (SGH-I727), which is also called the Galaxy SII: Skyrocket.
They are ALL different, and flashing a ROM meant for one of them onto another will usually result in a very expensive paperweight. So if you flashed a ROM from the link you posted above (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278), you very may well have to exchange it or take it to service.
If you take the battery out, what does it say for the model on the sticker underneath?

Then no; white, black, shouldn't make a difference. (as long as it's not a i9100G)
You shouldn't have to flash a kernel on top of the firmware - the firmware will include a kernel. The only reason you would have to flash a kernel on top of the firmware is if you want root, or a custom kernel.
You didn't tick "repartition" or try to include a .pit file, did you?

You have an I9100G. If you flash roms/kernels for the I9100 on your phone you run the risk of soft bricking it at best or hard bricking it (return to Samsung for a repair you pay for) at worst.
Make absolutely sure any rom or kernel you flash on your phone is specifically for the I9100G. I cannot stress this enough.

Hi,
Last year I rooted my SGS II, unlocked it from Orange and installed Villian ROM (which I have bee perfectly happy with). I've just ordered my new upgrade SGS III (on T-Mobile), which will be here in a few days
As a result i want to sell my SGS II, but hink it would be more attractive if it were a stock samsung ROM.
I'm a bit rusty on flashing etc as it was quite some time ago that I rooted/flashed the phone, so I just wanted to ask if I can simply download the stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487)? and flash using Odin to replace the custom Villian ROM?
Don't really want to brick the phone!

Originally Orange I9100P
PDA: I9100XXK13
Phone: I9100XXLPB
Model: GT-I9100
Kernel: 2.6.35.11-ninphetamine-2.0.5+
VillianROM 3.0
Thanks

Yes it is a I9100P
I would just like to get a fairly standard Samsung ROM working on there so it has stuff like allshare and swype etc. But obviously still want it to be unlocked.
It is branded I9100P on the back cover next to the Orange logo, so I guess that is what it is. Although the phone reports it is an I9100, but I guess this could be down to what I done to unlock it (though for the life of me I can't remember how I did it).

Many thanks for the offer. Yeah, as you say, probably not worth the grief.
As long as I can get a standard type ROM running and unlocked I'll be happy.
My new S3 arrives Tuesday, so I'll wait unitl then before doing anything with the S2, just in case of any issues as I don't want to be left without a phone.
Just out of interest, what is a mint S2 worth roughly?
Could be around £230-260.I only keep my eye open for cracked screen/dont switch on ones.
They can go for up to £160.

off the phone
- press volume up + home + power button, release your hands as soon as the phone lights up
It's like the opposite of download mode

Thanks, disaster averted , has now rebooted with ICS 4.03, which is what I was after. No yellow warning triangle, which is fine.
Just need to make sure it is still network unlocked, but initially looks like it is.
Can't thank you enough for your prompt and awesome advice.
Cheers,
We5ty.

I just received an S3 ordered via an established eBay seller.
However, the seller neglected to state that the S3 is Polish - instructions and some box text is in Polish.
Is this ok or am I likely to experience any oddities? Do I have the correct firmware that I want/need for regular UK use?
As yet unopened.

Yes it's fine and in fact you get the official JB update without doing anything except doing it OTA.
You may need to enter your network settings manually is about all .

What? Why wouldn't they be beamed to the SIM from my network automatically?

And that is easily fixed by flashing the latest UK ROM (doesn't increase counter) and changing the CSC code to your region (BTU), App on the appstore and requires no root.
So basically yeah it will work 100%.
I was on the verge of keeping this phone, but I just bought a new Three UK monthly rolling sim today and I am getting download speeds of around 100Kbps and poor vice call quality. I don't know whether that is just Three but the data is way too slow. Could this be because of the modem software on board?

Skander, could you point me to those things please? Would changing the CSC do anything to help me? Whilst that may not reque root, I guess flashing a UK rom would, right?
Flashing from 1 stock Rom to another does not require root and is done by Odin

Yes it could be the modem. Here is a full modem list:

You flash them with odin. Make sure to get 4.1.1 modems if you have updated to JB. The csc includes things like apps from three, and won't effect your download speeds.
I would recommend watching the youtube video on this thread:

This will give you a better grasp on what is what
Ugh, confusing. So, grab the 4.1.1 package download and flash that? Thigh the thread doesn't say, it should contain some Three stuff?
I'm on the verge of just returning the Polish phone and having the seller mail a UK handset or refund entirely rather than messing rand.
Thanks for the tips.

Have you noticed the "Roll up sticky thread" in the general forum? The noob friendly flashing guide is a great place to start.
The csc is not needed at all, and most would be happier without it.
There is no hardware difference between a polish and british handset. A few hours to get used to flashing and you can get a fine working S3. This includes JB, ICS, polish csc, british csc, modems etc exactly to your tastes.
I had rooted and flashed before with my S and S2, but kinda wanted to start my S3 life in its virgin state.
Though I had been attributing the horribly poor call quality on my S2 to my network this year, it may even be down to whatever I've flashed on to it.
More JB rolling out now i would wait for the correct one for your phone .

Have returned the unexpectedly-Polish handset to seller and expect a proper UK replacement. If not, I'll set my mother on them.
