Does CM9 have hardware acceleration? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Without it, doesn't it make it so no games or videos?
Just wondering, Does cm9 have HW Acceleration yet?
Does CM7 have HW Acceleration?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

Apparently android has had hardware acceleration for a while, it's just implemented more fully in ICS, or that's at least how I understood the small amount that I've read. Meaning yes, ICS and CM7 have HW acceleration, they're just different implementations. I think some googling should reveal the answers you're looking for.

Short answer. Yes.

Why is the fascinate getting kernals so much faster than ours?

The fascinate is like the exact same phone, just with a flash, yet they have found stable kernals above 1.7. Is this not possible on the vibrant?

Same hardware.

I know, so why do they have faster more stable kernels

Would you give up froyo for more kernels? Theyre still on. 2.1
Sent from the Bermuda Triangle.
There is a weird quantum mechanical phenomena whereby the presence of the camera flash somehow causes the circuitry to be more stable. One hypothesis, presented in the latest issue of Science, is way over my head, so I won't even bother trying to explain.

[Q] Q fully functional CM6 possible?

Since we have froyo kernel source is is possible to have a fully functional build of CM6? I know cm7 is newer but wouldnt it be nice to have CM working including gps? Also is a froyo MIUI possible as well?
Appreciate any info on these topics. Im sure many people are wondering this too!
I think we already have one eugene has it on his website I think.

And its fully functional?

About as functional as the CM7 port. Support for it was dropped so no GPS, same battery drain, and a glitchy camera.

Why does gingerbread performance suk on the vibrant?

Everyone keeps stating the vibrant has issues with battery on gingerbread...... if this is a driver issue, can't these be borrowed from a phone with the same/similar hardware but is on gingerbread? And why doesn't Samsung at least release the nessary drivers so the phone can be supported seeing as they don't seem to be willing to put gingerbread out for it......

This has been answered a million times dude. First we dont even have a leak or anything for the vibrant, were using the 4g's leak which is different codes, different radio's etc. Blame T-Mobile for dropping support on this phone.

My questions haven't been answered.... why can't we get the proper drivers from other phones that use the same chips?
There are numerous other galaxy s phones..... where all the same chips (other than the radio )will be the same! GPS, CPU, graphics etc. Are the same...... so why can't these items be ripped out of other Roms to make the vibrant 2.3 roms?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Because no other phone is using the same driver/firmware combo. The closest things we have are the captivate and i9000 which both use different radios. Same is true of the vibrant 4g.

The captivate is very close to ours.. the issues ive seen with gingerbread seems to be more than the smal.hardware differences of radios and such, so if there is a more clear answer what the big problems really are, im curious.
since they just leaked the 2.3.4 for captivate I was hoping we would have a better Ginger coming.. or at least should be a good sign that ours(leaked Ginger) can't be far behind right?

I'm not sure what exact answer you're looking for but the differences don't end at the radio.
The accelerometer on the captivate is turned 90° which would need to be fixed in the kernel.
The radio differences render the GPS useless without the same hack that we presently have.
The button layout is slightly different though an easy fix.
Using a captivate firmware is no different than using the i9000 firmware. Just because the phones look alike doesn't mean a thing. Once you start looking beyond the outer physical appearance you'll understand that the Vibrant is rather unique. Of course there are work arounds and hacks but nothing that we aren't presently doing. Without someone stepping up on a regular basis and compiling kernels that implement certain fixes or without a leak of our own nothing changes.

I guess I meant the problems the current roms have for many people. GPS is a given, never could get it working properly, but instability and atrocious battery life would make me think we were using a ported rom from a totally different phone.
I guess the thing I'm wondering, if there's been 2 Ginger leaks for captivate, then a vibrant source must be in the works and can't be far behind right?
It is amazing that you devs have managed to overcome all of the issues that you have, something the OP really needs to realize.. most thought it unlikely or impossible that ginger would be working as well as it is..

Google Chrome for Android

Just saw this article http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-57368713-264/three-years-on-chrome-at-last-arrives-on-android/. Looks like it's only for ICS devices. I wonder if it would work on cm9 kangs?
Guess it isn't compatible, just read in the cm9 dev thread that it doesn't work.
Tried it myself, it looks like it will work but it just gives you the white screen.
I installed it on CM9 on my Atrix and it didn't work. Installs and runs fine, but never loads a site! WSOD!
Won't work with Atrix, it requires hardware acceleration.

Don't work. Only white screen here. CM9 (from atrix-dev-team).

From today and now it works with the lastest CM9 Joker version
Working on atrix
on jokersax alpha 1.1.3.It does work but still a bit buggy
I'm using on my atrix on CM9 Beta 0.1.0 2d. It is Lightning fast, but there is some issues
it keeps crashing. it is very unstable as of now.
I also read somewhere that Chrome would never support flash. Lets all hope that was not correct
Was just using this on ICS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445052) it's a bit buggy tbh but the way it syncs with my computer is great
Buggy and No flash, well it's a beta.
works for me.
the only bug i've seen so far is that I can't use the tabs, it just crashes without a warning...
i'm on jokersax's 2d latest beta (0.1.0?)
it works flawless on my teamEOS xoom though
Currently i am using the CM9 rom and one thing bugging me here, FP navigation.is there any way to turn it of???

2d issues

Hey I have been hearing a lot about the cm9 rom having 2d issues. What does that mean?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Games that use 2D acceleration such as Angry Birds don't function correctly. I think the issue has been greatly improved in the newest ROM from jokersax though. Don't quote me on that one haha.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
We're getting closer and closer to having 2d hw fully stable but for now there are still some things here and there that need fixing.
angry birds runs fine for me with the keral from jokers beta wwf freezes on me. Flashed different kernal and wwf works angry birds is glitchy. It will get worked out. I have faith
2D hardware acceleration is working in the last two or three of Joker's CM9 builds. I have been installing Angry Birds each time and, currently running beta 0.1.0, have had no issues with artifacting or any other graphics issues. I know the latest version of Joker's has had some new 2D-related issues and, as far as I know, turl's is in the same boat.
Thanks for your answers. They explain why words with friends has been craahing

If you Google for 2d hardware acceleration app you will get a list of the best apps for this and running one of them will allow you to get past all 2D problems you have
