I rooted my EVO 3d. I used the HTC unlock and TWP. I can load roms at will. I have now tried 3 different ones (viper, Miui, Synergy) and keep getting the same problem. When i open an app the screen size is all wrong. Usually the right side of the screen can be overlapped or a black bar (about half an inch) is there. I guess i could live with the smaller screen, but it also throws the touch off. If i go to click a button in the app, i have to aim above or beside where i really want to aim.
At first i thought it was the first rom i tried, but i reloaded it. no luck. So now I've tried all sorts of versions of Factory resets, wiping cache, wiping dalvik and installed 2 more roms. All of them give me the same result.
At this point I have to assume there's a setting off? or something still on the SDcard that is holding some setting? Or is this a known issue with EVO 3d rooting? I find that hard to believe or no one would be rooting as it pretty much makes apps unusable. Normal things like Facebook I think are okay, but any app I buy and load seems off.
When the apps start up, if there's a video clip or a logo splash screen, i'm fine. Once it goes into the actual app, I lose my size.
At this point I'm about to unroot and go back to Sprint factory setup, but I like the Miui Rom I have on there now and would prefer to keep it if i can fix my problem.
Sorry if this is a doulbe post, i've spent days googling this, trying to fix it myself, going through every app on my phone looking for a setting doing this and at this point I need someone's expert advice.
Thanks!
all apps or just one in particular? because some apps still arent formatted for qHD displays
Every one I've tested so far. Ones that were fine prior to rooting.
Try downloading Spareparts and uncheck compatibility mode.

Ive been plagued with this bug ever since i goit the phone, and no matter what rom ive tried this still surfaces. At first i thought it was buggy wroms, but even after task29 i still get it.
Ive managed to track it down, to poor memory management i believe. Because if i close all open programs. The bugs stop.
Basicaly what happens, is certain things become invisible. It mainly happens to the lock screen and the start menu. When i wake the phone up, im presented with no lockscreen but instead whatever was open at the time of going to sleep. But the phone is actually locked. So i still have to slide to unlcok.
This also happens with the start menu, no icons but the same screen i was in before.
I also noticed that images in the messenging program are miossing aswell, and im left with just outlines.
The confusing thing is, as it is not consistant with what programs are open. Sometimes just when opera is open, sometimes i can have several.
Maybe i have a memory leak somewhere.
Ive tried many roms, maxsense, cht, standar, gtx, same bug. its not the roms. I dont install any extra mods. hardly any proigrams extra installed.
Is it maybe the 576mb memory patch? thats my only thought. when i had g1, there was a patch for gaining extra ram which was reserved for video. Is this the same case for the hd2?
while im here, ive also had programs complain of not enough ram, when task manager says there is 100mb free of ram. not reported correctly? or just poor memory management.
If i close all open programs, i get my lock screen back, the start menu works, and no missing icons in messaging
I hate windows mobile... should have waited for the desire

I never saw something like this on my or my girl's HD2.
I would say, flash everything back to stock and try again.
If it's still like this, send your phone in for repair.
i hope its not a repair job, as that could have been done under warranty when i first got the mobile on contract 3 months ago. if it was to go for repair, id have to do it under insurance, as i had also dropped it in the toillete a few months ago (dried out)
but this problem has been there since before that.
damn
Ill need to get toa windows machine at some point. as my pc is solely linux, so cant task29. the last rom i loaded i did task29.
i installed a new rom. coukdbt task 29 cause no acces to a windows machine. lockscreen now works perfect. its not once became invisble even with lots of programs open.
however i still get complaints of no memory when opening images sometimes when just opera is open..vstrange. with no programs open pictures can be ipened
Update on progresss. Even the VBN showed very bugy behavious in regards to images, and loading of the camera ap. sometimes complaining of not enough memory even with just opera opening. So ive got access to a windows machine. went back to stock, removed hspl. So my phone is as it would be coming from htc. it doesnt have a t mobile branded rom.
everything works perfect as far as i can tell, ive not been able to reproduce the bugs. no matter how many programs i have open, images open fine. the whole device just seems alot more responsive.
So now im going to flash a custom rom and see what happens. But it looks like, the problem is solved so far.
Here is what i did
Performed a task29
updated with stock rom
used hspl3 to remove hspl
device bootup and so far so good.
Id recomend trying going complelty back to stock if you keep getting odd behaviour.
First, I have an Incredible and have done all the goodies to it, but my wife has an Eris and Im gonna need some help getting it right.
I month or so ago I rooted my wife's Eris and installed xtrSense on it because it looked closest to stock (with Sense). A couple weeks later htc mail kept force closing, over and over. Then some days it would go an entire day and not have service, while mine would when they are sitting next to each other. (by no service I mean the phone part of the smartphone did not function).
The biggest problem I am going to have in finding a ROM for this thing is she LOVES the HTC calendar widget and the HTC mail widgets. She has 2 work emails and a personal email, all of which have their own HTC mail widget.
Is there a vanilla ROM that has a widget that is similar to the HTC Mail widget?
I have been leaning towards KaosFroyo but the problem being the mail widget. I LOVE that Gingerbread theme by SicNside though!
Sorry for the long winded post!
Honestly, Ryan - instead of switching it up on her, re-download xtrSENSE, wipe, and flash it. This time, flash it TWICE just to make sure. Reboot, let it go, and then set it up with all her ****.
Once that's done, go to this thread and download the newest ERIS radio available:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650121
Download it to the phone, rename it to "update.zip" and put it in the root, reboot to recovery, flash it, reboot, let it install, reboot, and wait for your phone to start up.
Give it a little bit - and you should be good to go.
Long answer short: no (not that I've seen), the HTC widgets are pretty darn exclusive.

Thanks very much for the reply. One question though, why install it twice?

Only needed if the phone suffers from OCD: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Complete and utter BS voodo - computers are deterministic. Sort of like saying you will do a better job at work today if you drive there three or four times "just to make sure".
The suggestion the first responder provided is no different than if you simply performed a "wipe data/factory reset" in Amon_RA.
What you really ought to try is clearing the data store for a few selected apps (Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications), rather than nuking all the user data and settings and starting all over. You might even consider making a backup so you can make several attempts at it if something doesn't work out as you expect.
Thanks for the replies.
I always nandroid before doing a ROM, especially on her phone. I just dont get why all of a sudden she had an "x" over the signal bars on her phone for an entire day, then all of a sudden it started working again. Also the htc mail force closing literally every 10 seconds.
Is there a way to backup all of her home screens, then wipe, then install xtrSense again? It takes forever to re-set up all of her screens since they are all full.

I'll admit that the signal issue is a little strange (but you didn't mention whether it comes right back after rebooting, or whether you checked to see if airplane mode had been toggled on accidentally).
Have you tried clearing the application data and cache for the HTC Mail App to see if that changes anything?
The HTC version of Sense had a thing called "Themes" that you could create - but it didn't save them to the SD card, so if you did a factory reset (or a wipe), you would lose all your themes. Kind of stupid, really; but then again, making those settings survive a ROM replacement (or factory reset) wasn't part of HTC's requirements.
I think you are kind of stuck, unless xtrSense uses a 3rd-party launcher. (For instance, ADW and Launcher Pro have means to backup your home screens) Apps, emails, contacts, bookmarks, and SMS/MMS messages can all be backed up using 3rd-Party (market) apps for those purposes, but I will agree with you - restoring a Sense ROM takes some time.

This should really be a reply to RyanTX, but I was lazy.
My Backup Root (free on the market - make sure and look for ROOT version, not My Backup Pro which costs $) will backup your home screens.
The only problem with any program that backs up your home screens, including Launcher Pro or ADW (at least it used to be - let me know if anything's changed) is that due to restrictions made by Google, they will NOT restore widgets, only everything else, which pretty much defeats the usefullness of the ability IMHO.

Even the "built in" ADW backup/restore method won't handle widgets, so maybe it is an Google API thing, I don't know. OTOH, I have 7 home pages with only 4 widgets in use, so I find that backup/restore darned handy - even if I have to fix up a few widgets manually, it still saves me plenty of time. You're right, it would be great if it worked perfectly - but a little bit (or a lot in my case) is better than nothing at all.

True. I guess as long as someone isn't like I used to be; I used to have 20+ widgets over several home screens. Now I like to keep things simple, I only have six things, and only on one screen, although five of the six are widgets.
hey guys,
i have a rooted galaxy s 2 and for several weeks now, it has been lagging a lot.. for example:
i'll type something... the screen will freeze, then after a few seconds, the letters show up in a flurry or..i'll swipe the screen, but it won't move, then it'll slowly transition to the next screen... or i'll type a text... hit 'send'... and it won't show up in the message thread for a few seconds...
you get the gist.
the kernel is: [email protected]#2
any idea on how i can get the speed back to normal? i tried deleting a bunch of apps and that didn't work (i didn't have very many to begin with) and i still have roughly 5 gb left on the internal SD. it has gotten to the point where using my phone is becoming a nuisance - it lags sooo much.
thanks in advance.
shouldnt be laggin at all but a few things.
1-check for rogue apps
2-try a different kernel/rom ( i prefer speedmod/criskelo myself)
oh, you might want to do a factory reset as well. However, this device shouldnt be laggin at all with any kernel

Try to remove all the widgets that keep changing their data every second like google reader widget from your home screen if that doesnt work go for factory reset in setting >privacy. Make a backup if possible but i would recommend to it the manual way since it will help you find the culprit much easily, install apps one by one and see what is causing the problem.
Also try a different keyboard, like slideIT or better keyboard.
Or go back to stock one if you are using a non stock keyboard
i tried doing the factory reset, and it seems to have made a slight difference, but there is definitely still a lag. and i've also tried the stock keyboard, swype and swift key- same results. i'm starting to think it might just be a hardware thing. yay for cellphone insurance.
I've had my Photon since last October, and have been thoroughly enjoying my phone. I keep my phone locked (for the 4g) but rooted so I have more flexibility. I have been noticing a slowdown in overall effectiveness when using apps on the phone, such as hitting the button in gmail to change accounts, and the button lights up for a few seconds then finally prompts me for the new account. Have had persistent issues with my cardock and bluetooth
Also have consistently been having issues where a program thrown into the background is immediately killed.
I've messed around with the Overcharge script in the past (maybe that did something), I've used motomizer, Loki's de-blur script. I've also added the modified app widget picker and removed a few Blur items.
I decided to sbf to 198_7 and start over from scratch, I've only installed a few new programs (google Reader, TB, Rom toolbox, Solid file Explorer, ES File explorer) and uninstalled the Sprint apps that are easy to remove (Nascar, Telenav, etc). My BT headset works while the phone is in the cardock now (yay) but I am still having the slow / laggy response in the UI.
A good example of the lag is when I unlock the phone. Remember, at this point I am near total stock, only with root. When I slide to unlock from the screen, there is a noticable delay before I get the homescreen. I watched one of qbking77's videos about restoring via SBF last night and on his demo, when he would unlock his photon it would "immediately" show the homescreen.
TLDR: Is it possible to have a problem re: performance separate from the image on the phone, something in the hardware. Totally subjective but something doesn't seem right and I've reset it as much as I can.
One of the big issues is we don't have a really good wiping mechanism so even if you and and factory reset stuff can still hang around.

So a factory reset followed by an SBF isn't completely clean? Well, that blows.
yes I have files from Feb and I've gone from cm7 to cm9 to stock and back again wiping every time. I want to try that wipe all zip.

When you say you have files left, are you refering to files left in the / or on your sd card? I assume the former, but I want to make sure I am clear in my understanding.

The wipe all zip should do nothing more than can be done in recovery. Just packaged so the process is faster.
I'm not entirely sure about the Photon CWM recovery versions but they have been known to not wipe properly so the process should be done numerous times. Maybe using recovery and then the wipe all zip.
Always a good idea after flashing a few roms to go in and format all sd storage as well. A lot of android apps do not uninstall completely which drives me nuts. I suppose a cluttered directory structure could create some slowdown as well (although probably not noticable).
I have to say I wish my Photon was as speedy as the IPhone when zooming around the interface. I like to run a decent amount of widgets and those really start to slow things down depending on the launcher used.

hi
it seems to be not a software problem. I've thought too that it is software, tried 'process killers' without any result, flashed stock 2.3.4, hybrid cm7 2.3.5, now i'm on jokersax's cm9 beta 0.6.1 - my problem is the same - touchscreen becomes very laggy without any reason, it 'wakes' only after pressing power button one to few times.
Here seems to be the same problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265289

i've shot a video of this lag http://youtu.be/KWDT1KTG-f8
I'm getting pretty frustrated... my HTC One M8 is a GREAT phone, I really love it... BUT!!! I had a minor hardware issue with it and Verizon just replaced it with a 'Like New' HTC One M8 via VZ Extended Warranty. The thing is, I was going app crazy a while back and I had over 200 apps on my phone. They were very organized into folders just like I was on my home PC... true. I had apps the helped me keep it running smooth and they did fine.
When I went to do the Marshmellow update though I decided to slim-down the app count, so I used a few different apps to wipe caches, data, history, etc. I reset the phone to factory... but when it was booting up on the install it said it was optimizing 200+ apps!!! I was pretty irritated because it didn't have that from factory some why am I seeing this on a factory reset. I went into several menus and changed settings. I don't remember which ones I changed but it worked. I did the update and it now was saying at boot it was optimizing like 20 apps.
So I get the new replacement phone and have to do it all ove again but I don't remember what I did. Right out of the gate as soon as I got this phone it did the same thing. Said it was optimizing 200+ apps that weren't even on the phone. I hadn't even logged into my gmail account yet. It must be linked with my SIM card???
I don't know but I have to update this to Marshmellow now and I'd prefer to be starting with a clean slate. Anyone???
I haven't had time to search yet for this but I also am looking to root this phone (HTC One M8 Marshmellow) if anyone knows the easiest way, one-click would be great.
Thanks so much for your help!!!
