hi,
what's the version of win 7 you are using?
i've just plugged my xt910 to win 7 professional 64bit and no more need of manually installed drivers.

Try downloading SDK and installing the USB driver package? Or failing that, go under "device manager", delete everything related to your phone, and try again.
thanks guys but it turned out it was just my cable went bad... idk how but got a new ecomoto one and it worked.

So I just got an Atrix and im trying to root it, however when I plug it in, after setting USB Mode to None and turning on the USB Debug, ADB drivers fail to install. It shows up in my device manager with a ! ontop of the icon, and windows tells me it cant find a driver. I manually downloaded the drivers but that still didnt help, my phone isnt making a connection of the bridge. Ive wiped everything everything motorola related, reinstalled the drivers manually, reinstalled the ADB driver manually, rebooted about 10 times and now im absolutely stuck.
Has anyone run into this before? Im going to try plugging the phone into my work computer today, but id like to be able to get this working on my home computer. I followed the guide thats available out there that tells you to run the driver installer and delete all the files it shows, and that didnt help either. Im on Windows 7 but i also have a laptop with Ubuntu available, however i couldnt find a rooting guide for linux so im not sure if that will help.

32 bit.
Tried on 2 different PC's, my home computer and my work computer. ADB driver fails to install on both. Both running windows 7 32bit.

I got it sorted. Installed the ADB driver manually (choosing the regular adb driver NOT the composite driver) and then ran super one click to start the ADB service. Then once the phone was connected, ran aroot and it worked.

It seems no matter what I do I keep getting device not recognized. I have tried installing all the drivers via kies, I have turned on usb debugging, uninstalled stuff on the pc. I just can not get this to work, I am using the cable that came with the device and have tried different ports.
It look's like I might be having this issue with windows 7 as well. I am now at least getting it to some times show up in device manager. Currentley when I set it to PTP it pops up as a MTP USB Device but has the error symbol. If I do MTP it shows up as SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device with the error.
For people with windows 8: Once you have the driver downloaded, right click on the file and go to properties. Go to the compatibility tab. Put a check next to run this program in compatibility mode. Choose Windows 7 from the drop down window. This should allow you to install the drivers. Kies never recognized my device, but Odin did. I am now rooted. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions.
I have a little different problem (also windows 8).
This is a custom built desktop tower that i did a clean win8 install on and it doesnt respond at all when I plug in my N2. Absolutely NOTHING happens, although it works just fine plugged into my wifes LT with windows 8 and I didnt even install any drivers in it.
This same tower works just fine with my two galaxy 3s.

I have Windows 8 Pro x64 (clean installed) on a custom built tower, and haven't had a single issue using ODIN to flash beans rom, or any problems mounting the device to read/write files. I didn't have to do anything crazy or custom to get it working either.. just installed the drivers in the thread about rooting the phone originally with ODIN.

We are both running with the exact same setup. I built my PC and am using enterprise on the custom build. My laptop at work I am using pro. The drivers provided on the rooting page do nothing for me either. This is so frustrating, and when I had the note 2 on sprint it worked just fine. I am starting to wonder if the issue is the phone.
I had some troubles with my galaxy nexus on win 8 too, with similar rig to yours. I'll see what happens over the weekend when I get my Note set up.
Factory restore fixed the issue.
But still no kies
For anyone having problems, I think this should fix it after the reboot. Let me know.
How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8:
From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
Click ‘More PC Settings’.
Click ‘General’.
Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
Wait a bit.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart.
Didn't do anything for me :/. My phone doesn't even give me the option to go into other modes to interface with my pc. My windows 8 machine sees the device as Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM but says that it is missing drivers. When I try and get it to automatically search for drivers it comes up with nothing even when my system has samsung drivers sitting on it. I have tried it on my Windows 7 machine also and it has had similar results. It's strange because Odin sees my phone. I was able to flash root66 rom on it but after that nothing, I can't even get a factory image back on it, it'll only accept root66.
Try using a USB hub. That worked for me on my Win8 machine. I tried factory reset and it didnt work. I also tried re loading windows and it still didnt work. I plugged into a usb hub and my pc recognized my phone....

It's not an issue of your phone. It's an issue of Window 8. This might work but I can't guarantee you 100%.
You may try to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if it helps:
a. Right click on setup file.
b. Click on Properties.
c. Click on Compatibility tab.
d. Put a check mark on Run this program in compatibility mode for.
e. Select Windows 7.
f. Put a check mark on Run this program as an administrator under Privilege Level.
I had already done all that. Upon factory restoring it worked without a hitch. I had the same issue on pc's running win7
My LG E970 does not have an usb connection to the computer.
I tried connecting in fastboot and ADB via command prompt, the computer does not see it.
It says slow charging when connected to a computer, 2 different computers.
I have the LG united drivers installed, reinstalled and rebooted.
I was on 4.4 and I did a restore to stock ATT 4.1.2, still no luck.
I'm out of ideas.
EDIT:
I tried LGNPST from: http://pastebin.com/bRpR3aB6
I put it into download mode and the phone shows "DOWNLOAD MODE" "DO NOT UNPLUG the device until the process is complete"
It only shows that, LGNPST does not detect anything.

I tried the different drivers, still "slow charge mode on the phone." It is suppose to pop up that USB debugging notification on the phone if it senses a computer connection. I'm using windows 7 and usb 2.0 only. Tried on different computer, still slow charging mode.

Good for you. I tried different USB cords, and it still doesn't work.
Well, if you can select USB debugging and charge the phone over USB, but the phone doesn't notice the computer then it may be a damaged USB port... I saw a thread about that on a Kindle I think... But it sounds like software isn't the problem... Good luck.

I recently had the same problem and my solution was to use the Koush Universal ADB Driver recommended by someone else. Prior to that all I could see the contents of my SD card and external SD card on the computer but always had some sort of driver issues and Windows telling me my driver wasn't installed correctly.
Using the official LG driver from the website didn't seem to help either.
OK... I know this thread has gotten old, but here's the final deal... It wasn't "exactly" the USB cables. It WAS the plug. The plug wasn't broken, just very dirty. I cleaned it out with a toothpick and now even the old cord works fine... So if you can't get the computer and phone to recognize each other, try cleaning the micro port in the phone

My issue is that I can't connect to my computer with Windows 8.1 in Download Mode. If I want to flash, I need to find a friend who is using Windows 7. Can anybody help with this?
Other details: I've tried cleaning the ports, using another cable, using other USB connections, etc. When in Download Mode, SDK can't even detect the device. I'm pretty sure it's the fact that I'm using Windows 8.1, but I don't know what to do to fix this problem.
Thanks!

Not sure why you want to put your phone in download mode
If your just trying to connect your phone via USB to mount storage (meaning getting file off the internal storage and sd card), it should work fine.
If your trying to root your phone, you need to grab the android sdk and use the adb commands.

The reason is that my phone is "bricked." I'm caught in a boot loop. The bootloader is locked on my LG phone so I can only get into Download Mode to fix stuff. But I can't fix stuff if my computer doesn't recognize my device. (I can connect fine when my phone boots up properly; just not in Download Mode). I've installed and uninstalled the LG drivers many times, so this is not the issue. What can I do with my Windows 8.1 computer to connect with my phone in Download Mode? Again, I CAN connect to Windows 7 computers, but I don't have one convenient to use, and I don't want to install lots of software on friends' computers...

That is what I would like to be able to do, but it assumes your device is recognized. One of the other posts on the same thread mentioned a similar issue but didn't mention a solution.
I've done some more exploring. I have, again, uninstalled and reinstalled the appropriate LG E970 drivers from the LG support site.
- When I am in fastboot mode, I see the attached image "01 Android.png" in device manager.
- When I am in recovery mode, I see the attached image "02 LG E-970.png" in device manager.
- When my phone fully boots up, I see the attached image "03 LGE Android MTP Device.png" in device manager. At this point, and only at this point, abd will list my phone as a device.
The problem is, I need a connection to my computer from recovery / download mode in case of a boot loop.
Can anyone help?
Using Windows 10 x64 with drivers freshly installed

Been searching for hours on this and can't get it to work. Captivate will connect to computer normally and allow file transfers. But when I try to put in download mode, the computer won't recognize it. I get a popup window that says USB device not recognized.
I'm trying to restore back to complete stock because I'm having random shut downs and other misc issues. I was trying to us Odin to do it but it doesn't recognize the phone. So I powered up the phone, started Odin, then plugged the phone in...Odin sees the phone now but of course needs it in Download mode to work...so I get ADB and while the phone is connected, powered up, and recognized by Odin, I put it in download mode using "adb reboot download". The command put the phone into download mode but then Odin lost contact the the bubble appeared again saying it wasn't recognized.
I've completely removed all the samsung drivers, shut down computer, reinstalled all the drivers, shut down the computer, plugged the phone into the computer and watch to see that all drivers were installed correctly and the computer recognizes the phone...
So it all works EXCEPT while in download mode...any ideas?
I've tried different USB cords but don't have another computer to try on...
I would say you should try Samsung kies, let them install drivers. Then use download mode.

I just read right clicking on the adb device in device manager when your phone is in download mode and choosing automatically update driver can fix the problem
