Ice Cream Sandwitch + Galaxy Ace - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

i like my, ace, i like it alot. iv got AOSP with my own custom stuff added and taken away for nice smooth and fast daily usage.i have only had it it 4 months and i dont want to upgrade, but as more and more handsets come out with ics. i cant see me having the ACE that much longer. i want ics, i think its safe to safe we are not going to get this with our ace. best we will get is AOSP ROM with ics themes. its just cosmetics not the real deal. i dont want to upgrade, but if i want Ics i think im gona have to, unless someone cane say otherwise?
think we are all gonna have to say by to our ace soon

What is so special about ICS that you want to change phones?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium

because gingerbread is getting old, more fetures in Ics, i no you can get apps ect to replicate, but replicating ics just bloats the phone. and the cpu and gpu just seem weak in the ACE now.

ICS rom question

Hi i just installed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319459
its all good, but i was just watching a video of someone using ICS and he had a few more new features which i dont have, so just wondering why they are missing from this rom. for example, the app drawer on my phone is exactly the same as before (on miks CM7), but this guys was way better.
Because you're using cm7 with an ice cream sandwich theme.
oh, lol i thought it was an ICS rom.
so i didnt even need to install this different rom, i could have just kept my old one and put a different theme on it.
lol, its mentioned in the screens on the 1st post of dax's ROM's thread that its based on CM7..
I did say its ICCS not ICS, i havent touch the sources yet... Andy is working on ICS...
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
i dont really know what ICCS is lol, and so CM7 is built from all the android sources before 4.0 ? so for ICS it will be the next CM ?
But whatever it is, it runs really nice and looks great. however it introduced a problem where when i am charging the phone, when the screen times out, it cant come back on instantly, seems to take a while. also a camera problem
unfortunate because its the smoothest and best looking rom ive had runnin yet.
i might have to go back to miks cm7 due to this, its pretty annoying.
thanks anyway, ur a champ.

Att and Samsung no new information on ics

Hello
Ive been fighting for the last 2 months on new firmware for att version of galaxy note ice cream sandwitch.
What Samsung has told me there isn't any date coming out its the same thing over and over.
Im going to contiue to fight this battle until they punch the firmware out in the us
I like note i might as well root the device
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
You gotta fight!!!!! ....for your righttt!!!!! ......to UPDATEEEEE!!!. . Its cool man just relax, root your phone and flash one of the many amazing ROMs the devs have cooked up for us. Trust me when I tell you... you won't be missing the official update
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
On the rom in my sig and I will NOT be flashing the official POS update. They can keep it. This rom blows the official bloated ICS away. Already have premium suite too.
Quit your fight. You're wasting time.

Uhm. That's not entirely true. The offical ICS isn't useless. If it's release, so will the source. That means better cooked roms as well as OC kernels.

Couldnt of said it better
I'm just waiting for the official release. I think it well be soon enough, don't worry. Like stated above. Once out i would let it settle into the dev section for a week or two to mature, then flash a custom ROM based off the official ics. Of course i would be running the official ics for a little bit until the custom roms mature. Just my own plan.

its true, the official update is useless to me. but when the official one comes out, so does the source. and with it comes better roms from devs but also, and more importantly to me.... OC kernal... i need that, i tried those ics roms that are out now, they're all great, but its too slow... If you ever download torrentz, you know what im talking about. If im running Adownloader to download a torrent, i cant watch a video at the same time at 1.5 ghz. but at 1.83, i can.

Do you even realise that not even one year ago, a good android phone had only one processor running at around 1Ghz.

Why wait? There are a couple that are remarkably mature and stable now. My daily driver is CM9. I'm tempted to try the Hybrid. Anything made by or if he is involved FJ is a quality product. Screw the official update crap. They can keep it. All I want is the official source released, then, well, the sky is the limit.
ive been waiting for official since i bought this thing..two days ago i said f%$k it...20 minutes later i was rooted and ROMed..i flashed ICS Objection..and i love it ... its so smooth and clean!!!

I don't give a piss about OCing. Anyone calling ics slow hasn't flashed the roms available for the note.
Ocing this phone will not benefit me in ANY way whatsoever. Already score 3800-4200 in quadrant on this rom. Have full premium suite. Run ANY game at a rate that is super smooth. Get enough battery life to have 4.5 h of screen on with 24h unplugged.
Pray tell, how the hell will official ics help me? It won't.
Quit trying to sound cool and say "oh but ocing!" "oh but this or that!"
Fact is, with current roms the note is hitting close to its maximum potential and there isn't much else to improve.
Actually flash what's currently available before you comment on what the note "will be". It's not going to get much better.

There is a lot more you can do with a kernel besides overclocking after the source is released. It will benefit each of us. I say ICS is useless without the kernel source. It may be good now for the people that have updated to the ICS roms but it will be great after the scource is released. You can say what you but there will be no comparison to the roms now and the roms after getting the source even without overclocking. You must have no idea what your talking about or maybe your just not familiar with custom linux based kernels. The custom kernels is where its at.

Not much will.
You have no ****ing clue who my XDA identities are. Ill wager I know a damn lot more than you about Linux kernels.
With the current rom features, things can marginally improve but,for the most part, aren't going to change much.
Please keep this thread bookmarked and come back to it after ice source is out- I get a demented thrill when I say "I told you so."

All I'll say is if you can't watch a video or play games without your phone stuttering, exchange it.
When I was on GB without OC no problems. And now that I'm on ICS, still no problems. My buddy's note is the same way.

How is ICS smoothness on S3 compared to S2 ICS?

Hey.
How is ICS smoothness on S3 compared to S2 ICS?
On SGS2 i9100 the official ICS is not as smooth as it was on Gingerbread. The touch just seems off.
Is this fixed on S3? Or is it still the same as S2?
Thanks.
It's better than on s2, but it aint as perfect as on s2 gingerbread, the touch difference was the reason i always had to revert to gingerbread on the s2 after trying the various ics firmwares. I use a specific remote desktop program daily and in that program it was very noticeable that the mouse control was not perfect in anything but s2 with gingerbread.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
For me it's better then s2 gingerbread
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2
I think also that S3 ICS is smoother than S2 (intl. or G version) ICS
Early firmware is nowhere near as smooth as the final Gingerbread builds on SGS2 and is not even as smooth as ICS on SGS2 . But that is early firmware like the SGS1 and 2 it should improve in time .

Main reason for that is because of the update from "continous" scrolling and "elastic" scrolling..
Gingerbread= Continous Scrolling
ICS= Elastic Scrolling

SGS3 is crazy smooth
I have the T Mo version of the SGS3 & the Sprint SGS2. I was running cm9 alpha6 on my SGS2 & when I used the SGS3 side by side, I immediately switched back to GB brecause its so smooth. I thought ics was really smooth on my S2 until I used it on the S3. I cant get the S3 to hang or lag no matter how hard I try. Its just as smooth as GB on the S2 except its faster as far as pinching & zooming in the stock browser on heavy flash sites goes. Even 3rd party apps on the S3 don't lag at all. It cant get smoother than this thing, Once you get over 50+fps I really dont think u can tell the difference.

Proud new owner with a few questions

Hey everyone, I just purchased a new note from Telus in Canada and I love it. It was quite a substantial upgrade from my old x10. With the x10 it was almost a MUST to use a custom rom to get it working at a satisfying speed. I'm just wondering if thats the case with the Note, is there a substantial increase in performance with the roms? I dont mind touchwiz but I think i would prefer stock android or CM. All of this was pretty easy to do with the x10 but i'm feeling pretty lost right now, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Its been almost 3 weeks with my note and I did not notice any lags I just love it the way it is.........but I did rooted it asap for apps like s voice and s3 widgets etc ....i might flash the 1st jellybean rom which comes....lol .....
If its ics ...its good...
If its on gingerbread ....then update it ota ...
Enjoy!

The note does lag....not bad in some cases but if u can live with it thats great..if u come to the custom rom world u can remove tons of bloat oc uv kernels bigjoe has a super everything thread thats really handy i rooted and flashed mine within hours...i love hiw much faster and smoother it is...most ppl that have not rooted have no idea how bad it lags until they get a custom rom

Thanks for the responses guys, JB could you point me in the right direction? I'm currently on stock 4.0.4 if that helps SGH-I717D
My rom is so light and small my phone lag is non-existing compared to my girlfriends stock gingerbread one

cyanogen is working on jelly bean for the note. as soon as it's ready you can be sure it will be at the top of the development section.
also if you're already rooted then there is no reason not to flash a custom rom. it takes 5 minutes tops and it removes all the carrier bloat and adds some goodies and tweaks we all love. try out team perfections latest release if you like the stock feel but without the garbage.
See my signature pic, click it
And go to the gnote super page....has the listing for ROM, tools, info....

Is jelly bean on s2 really worthy to have?

My sister has a s2. I was telling her about the soon to be out jelly bean update and about the system memory shrinkage of 1 GB. So its basically her question that is it really to flash or let the ics do its work? Well me for my note is dying for the official JB. For now 4.0.4 is rocking my phone.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you're rooted and can do a Nandroid, do it.
Do a Nandroid backup of your current state and flash JB for a test run.
Let the user judge the worthiness.
If the user thinks its not worthy, restore the Nandroid backup.
arilyag 500
i'd say it really depends on the phone...
best to make a nandroid backup before upgrading.
i've gone to JB twice (ParanoidAndroid and Neatrom) but went back to ICS
PURELY for the reason that i wasnt able to get good deep sleep on JB but there are many people who have no issues with this.
There were a few system related apps where I just prefered the ICS versions as well so i wouldnt say its specifically JB related.
I never had any issues running Neatrom 4.0 and PA on JB on my S2, i usually remove all bloatware and replace launcher with apex so everything seems quick to me
As all custom rom have bugs because of sources not available but stock jb will be bug free and should have deep sleep/good battery backup. So i think its fully worthy...
-more battery drain
-more features
-not much modded kernels ready yet
-it's jb, and really much smoother
-some bugs, but in everyday use really hard to spot them
Galaxy note
I would galaxy note n note2 are best to enjoy JB. N features like ripple lock with ink effect n specially videos n multi window on an huge screen.
If u feel note2 is expensive note1 is another real good option n buyable tooo..
Try the leaked xxlsj, it's very fast and the only issues I've been having are battery drain when browsing web and lock screen lag. It brings lots of enhancements to ics!
Well thanks for the help. A backup would be a good solution before taking the risk.
Lets see JB responds on it. But what about the 1 gb sacrifice for the system apps can we repatition it???
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
